My husband and I stopped at Bodrum for lunch for the first time yesterday. We received a warm welcome at the door and it just got better and better from there. The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the restaurant was clean as a whistle with a very nice décor. The homemade pita bread was warm and fluffy. Bodrum the coastal city in Turkey. This is not high class dining but delicious homemade food. As soon as you walk in you are taken into your grandmother's home in turkey. The lentil soup starter is gratis and it is simply delicious. lentil soup is not my thing but here they purée the lentils with carrots, potatoes and some spice. simple and simply delicious. We then next ordered the hummus trio. Regular, spicy and spinach! out of the three my favorite was the spicy hummus. All of them were good but not outstanding. We then had babaganoush and sautéed eggplant in green pepper and garlic among other things. The Babaganoush was different than Persian style but it was light and fresh. The sautéed eggplant was out of this world!!! It was smoky and garlicky and a little kick. Finally we ate a chicken urfa. This dish was ground chicken with salad and rice. the chicken was spicy with garlic herbs and it was so moist!!!! The rice was perfectly cooked. Overall an outstanding place!! read more

What a delightful surprise to stumble across this restaurant on a very rainy day. We were waited on immediately and offered complimentary lentil soup. How perfect and quite delicious it was! We took our time making our lunch selections from a menu which offered many vegetarian options as well as lots of meaty things for those who like that sort of thing. We sampled the tabouli(some of the best I have ever had)and the substantial veggie wrap which came with very delicious fries. The decor was charming, the service warm and efficient and the place was immaculate. To top off this unexpected and delightful experience we were served complimentary Turkish tea. We are fairly new to Jacksonville and still getting to know the area. After looking on Yelp, we decided to give this restaurant a try, bc of all the great reviews. This place is amazing!!! The decor is really inviting with photos of Greece spread about, great modern colors, clean surroundings and very friendly staff. And that was before the food!!! I got Creamy Chicken and my husband ordered the namesake Shrimp dish. Literally melted in my mouth!! Servings are generous (we both had take home boxes) and the price is reasonable. My second time here. First time was fantastic but the second time was absolutely horrible. I ordered via online and when I arrived they had no record of my order and even though I told them my name they asked if I was someone else. The young lady at the counter went to the back and asked a coworker. Coworker comes out front and asks if I was another named person I told her my name she said oh yeah I got that one. While standing at the counter I could here the two girls talking crap about me and how I didn't know my name and laughing. To top it off my food was terrible. Food is amazing!! Local and family owned. However that said, service has been hit or miss. Often when eating in order comes out haphazard with some parties waiting for food long after others are served. When ordering take out, our orders have been greatly delayed more than once. So it's a great place but still tweaking the service aspect. I'm sure they will get it just perfect down the road. We learned that Bodrum opened this week and are thrilled to have a new neighborhood spot, so we decided to try it out. The space is clean and tasteful, bright yet intimate. The staff was friendly and very helpful. My husband enjoyed speaking about Turkey with a woman who might be the owner. He got the chicken sauté platter and I got the chicken gyro platter. Both were enormous and filled with chicken, rice, carrots, lettuce and purple cabbage. We started with the hummus trio, which was fabulous and served with warm pita. Prices are very reasonable. First time here was so delicious! The second trip has hooked me in and I'm sure to be a regular diner at Bodrum. Hummus trio is a must have appetizer with the whole plate filled, accompanied with a basket of warm bread. Greek lamb chops grilled to order was my entree, husband went with the gyro. Salad, complimentary soup, and tea to finish a perfect meal. Service flowed seamlessly and there was no lag in delivery of drink or food. We will be back. A co-worker and I went two days after they opened, for lunch. We shared the Sigara Borek as an appetizer. The closest I could liken it to was a Greek version of a mozzarella stick, but WAY better! They were so good! Filo dough with melted feta and parsley. It whet our appetite. Then came the main entrees. I was very satisfied with my chicken gyro. The fries were just average, so next time I would like to try the hummus side option instead. She ordered the Chicken Saute, which came with rice. She said it didn't really look like the picture on the website, so while the flavor was good it didn't quite meet her expectations. She said she would probably try something different the next time. They also served a little basket of pita triangles with the meal. It was very soft and fresh. We capped off our meal with a Turkish tea (served hot with two cubes of sugar). It is said to be helpful with digestion at the end of the meal. It was VERY tasty and just enough to do what they said it would, leave the meal feeling very settled. Overall it's a nice alternative to this end of town and all the chain restaurants. I would like to try going again and seeing if I could get closer to the 4.5 star mark. Maybe try the kebabs and hummus next time ;) read more

UPDATE: the morning after I posted this review the owner of the restaurant contacted me. She apologized profusely for my poor experience and offered to make it up to me by fulfilling my original order on the house. This time I cut the awful GrubHub out of the experience and just went to pick it up myself. The restaurant isn't open for diners of course, but it's a clean and cute little place. I picked up my order and the owner again apologized and explained that she had spoken to the employee who put my calls to voicemail. Now that I've finally had the opportunity to try their food I can tell you that it's quite good. I would definitely go back. Also worth noting that any restaurant can have an employee who's having a bad day and fails at customer service. But how ownership/management handles that situation says a lot about the business. I was very impressed that the owner was so proactive and prompt at reaching out and offering to make it right. read more
