Her knowledge and expertise really stood out. The session was intense yet effective--a classic "hurt so good" experience. She targeted all the right spots, and I left feeling significant relief. I had gone to several doctors who all told me the same thing. In so manny words, there's nothing wrong with me that they can find or words to that effect. So I met with Debbie, my hero, who I explained what was going on with my limited range of motion with my sholder then in about the the first five mins of the massage, I felt the pain reduction and started feeling more mobility. I was impressed. This is what time it was my muscle that I think just needed to be broken down. So, after my first session, I gained about 30 to 40 percent mobility. I recently purchased a Groupon for massage at this business, and it was provided by Debbie. It's a cute facility with some hand made jewelery for sale in the lobby. Reaching the office and making an appointment are easy. I requested a gentle massage for relaxation only. (I just got done moving, I didn't want therapy, I wanted relaxation.) The massage started out with **a lot of pressure** which immediately put me on overload. I asked her to calm it down and she did. There was one point where literally nothing (that I could perceive) was happening. For a while. I looked up asking what was going on and was told I was being given a cranial something or other. Ok. If that's part of your process, you should let people know. I've had lots of massages from dozens of professionals. Never had this. Which is fine, I'm all for new stuff. But it disrupted my relaxation (again) because I didn't know. Will I go back? Probably not - I didn't love it. read more

I had a massage by Jenise and a facial with Sarah. I had purchased an amazon local deal for both services and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get an appointment. The spa itself is very easy to miss. Parking is easy as it is under the building. Overall ambiance of the spa is lacking. Lights are bright. Robes are thin. Facial was good overall. My skin looks better than ever! But a few things annoyed me...When Sarah turned on the lights to examine my skin, she didn't have anything to cover my eyes. I had to ask. Most places put something dark over your eyes. She put some moistened gauze over my eyes after I asked, but it was still uncomfortable to have the spotlight right on my face. Massage was okay. Nothing great. It seemed a little disorganized. She never asked me how the pressure felt. When you're laying face down, its a bit hard to speak up and say you'd like more or less pressure. However, she did get out quite a few knots. This place was okay, nothing great. With so many spas in Long Beach to choose from, I don't think that this one stands out. read more

Found Debbie and Body Philosophy Spa a few years ago and it changed my life! Debbie has helped me with the recovery from knee surgery, a shoulder injury and has been instrumental in eliminating what was once chronic back pain. I workout 5 days a week and am in excellent physical shape, especially for my age, but have been in several car and motorcycle accidents that have done a number on my body. Debbie takes all this in stride and tailors every massage to the pressing needs of the day. She is incredibly intuitive, strong and always working to learn new techniques to improve her skills. She is amazing! After trying massage therapists around Long Beach, I was discouraged, and all of the massages just make me fall asleep, I get no therapeutic benefit, just a nap. That's not what I want and not what happens here. Debbie digs in and gets the knots out and my mobility back. On occasion I have had work done by other therapists here, they have all been excellent. There are only so many hours in a day and Debbie works a lot of them. Knowing that she gets very busy, I book out a few months in advance, to make sure my massages are waiting. Clients waiting until the last minute to get a massage, and the therapist doesn't have any openings isn't the fault of the spa, it's the clients fault, so I plan accordingly. It's worth it. I purchased a groupon for a 60 minute massage, and used it with a massage by Deb. AH MAZ ING! Seriously one of the best massages I've had in a long, long time! I'm sure she spent more than 60 minutes with me too. I arrived a little early so I could fill out any paperwork necessary, and I was a little nervous that Deb was a bit delayed in getting me started. But the facility is very nice, and there's a cozy little waiting area, so I was comfortable. There is also tea to enjoy (side note to staff, you might want to get cups suitable for hot beverages, as the cups you had melted wax all over my hands!) I ended up being brought back to the massage room a few minutes after the start time and Deb went over what areas I was having issues with, and what I was looking to achieve with massage, etc etc. She's quite lovely. The massage was perfect. She did use quite a bit of oil, but used plenty of hot towels to wipe off the oil after the massage. And the massage ended up going longer than 60 minutes I believe! She offered water as soon as I walked in and was really sweet and genuine about wanting me to have a good experience. I told her I wanted someone with strong hands and Jazzy didn't disappoint. I was given the gift of an ionic foot bath and one-hour foot reflexology massage by Debbie at Body Philosophy. That's right, a long soak and then one full hour of massage dedicated just to my FEET! Both times I've gone, Debbie has given me an extraordinary deep tissue massage. I have scar tissue in my left shoulder joint and in my right hip that she was able to loosen up quite a bit. So I've been wanting to get a massage for a really long time since I have frequent upper back pain due to long hours of sitting at a desk. I decided to snag their Groupon deal for 2 60 minute massage of your choice. The first session was pretty easy to book. The massage itself, however, wasn't very pleasant. I've never gotten a massage before so I'm no expert nor do I have background experience with massages, but I didn't feel wowed by my experience like other Yelpers. Debbie was my message therapist who questioned me about any specific areas that I wanted her to focus on which I thought was a very good start. For some odd reason, she mainly focused on my neck when I told her I wanted my upper back worked on also. She reassured me that she'll work on my upper back as well, but majority of the time she repeated the same technique on my neck, then spent 5 mins on my upper back and then my arms. (This is just an estimation since I wasn't aware how much time has past by before she switched areas to work on.) I wasn't aware of what technique she was using also (that may have been my fault though not to ask since the Groupon was a massage of your choice), but I thought she'll know which techniques would work best once she started working on me. It was a painful experience and I am aware that some massages can be painful depending on what you need worked on, but overall I felt like she was alright. I had high hopes considering all the reviews that raved about this place. (My neck did however felt kinda better after the soreness went away, but my upper back was still in pain.) Once I was done, I scheduled my next session. Pretty easy right? I couldn't make my next appointment so the day before I called in to let them know. No answer. I was busy, so I left a message and decided to call the next day to follow up. Called at 11:14, no answer. They open at 11:00, so it's pretty odd for no one to answer. At this point, there was nothing for me to do but assumed they listened to my voicemail about cancelling. Fast forward to a week or so later, I decided to call to set up my second session since I had free time. Called in, no answer. I honestly don't understand why I can't reach the front desk. How do you manage a business when no one picks up when customers want to schedule an appointment??!?Decided I'll call back again throughout the next day, no answer. Finally, decided to call one last time before I spoke to Groupon about my issue. They told me that they'll try to reach out to Body Philosophy to contact me instead. At this point, I honestly didnt want to go back due to their lack of communication and was hoping to get a refund which I did because the business didn't contact me within 3-4 days. THANK GOD!! Mind you, I had to call in multiple times because the first representative didn't pull through with what she said, but all in all, glad I got a refund cause there is no way I'm wasting my money on this place! ***by the way, in the photos of my outgoing call to this business, it showed that the call only lasted a few seconds, but that was because for some reason after two rings, it'll jump to voicemail read more

Best spa in Long Beach! I usually go to Mr & Ms Day Spa, but this place is closer, and the atmosphere so clean and peaceful. Sphere did my deep tissue and was amazing. Very attentive, requested feedback, which made the massage perfect. She has a great firm pressure, and due to some injuries I asked her to make the strokes slow, she did. I also asked to have the music changed, and they changed it to my liking. I felt fantastic afterwards. Sarah did my facial, which was absolutely amazing. Pumpkin was invigorating, and the little brush that exfoliated was fantastic. While my hydrating masque was working, she gave me an endless arm-hand massage that totally relaxed me. She seemed other-worldly in her ability to measure my limits & affect change in my problem areas. Moreover, she appreciated my service to country & rewarded my veteran status by offering me a substantial discount despite the fact that her prices are already comparatively reasonable. I don't often give recommendations for services such as these due to the mediocrity I've experienced. I can't recommend Deb enough. Her skills and knowledge as a masseuse make her every bit as important in the management of my back pain as my chiropractor... actually, even more so. From the time I began seeing her a year ago, my mobility has increased tremendously (I can finally exercise again) and my pain is nearly nonexistent (it only returns if I neglect to come in once a month). I've been to multiple masseuses before finding Deb, and none of them made even the slightest difference.
