I've come with my wife for her massage appointment but the renovated building and additional equipment is phenomenal. They have and infrared sauna, hot and cold plunge therapy, cryptheropy iceless cold and heat compression therapy sleeves for injuries (that's what I came for), and of course their Sport, Deep Tissue, Swedish Massage, and Back, Shoulder and Neck massages. Highly recommend coming to Firm Hands. The first time I came in was a very short introduction/assessment to see what I was going to need as far as massaging, what services would best help my body feel like me again. I was impressed by the level of professionalism and cleanliness in the establishment. I was able to quickly fill out the questionnaire asking about me and where my pain in my body was. The owner is friendly, funny, and super knowledgeable. After the assessment he broke down what he thought I would need in order to feel better. After contemplating, I agreed and we set up an appointment for me to get a massage/sauna session. As the days got closer, something came up and I had to reschedule which was no hassle and super easy to reschedule. I loved this because as a busy person who works all the time, things change alot in my schedule. They were able to reschedule and even to a time that worked with my work schedule! The massage portion really got my muscles to relax and certain parts of my body still do not hurt till this day and it's been a month! Jonathan CURED my cervical radiculopathy with sport massage. I was in severe pain for months (and mild pain for years), was on nerve medication, going to physical therapy and getting acupuncture. How blessed am I to have found Firm Hands, which is ironically just a few houses away from my home . Having lived in Long Beach 25 years with a wonderful older massage therapist who is therapeutic I got very spoiled with house calls to my home and excellent massage for low cost. When my massage therapist fell down the stairs, and injured himself I was panicky as I have tried most massage therapists in the local area and most are very inferior with low grade energy, filthy rooms and cheap oils. I admit I was nervous to try Firm Hands but was very pleasantly surprised. Jonathan is an amazing intuitive massage therapist who truly understands the body-mind-spirit connection. He is a master of deep tissue, stretching, TMJ and myso-cranial and was very caring, friendly, truly listening to my needs. He understand this and went to spots I needed release in. The massage room was clean and comfortable. I can tell too he is adaptable to people's needs. I asked for no music, low lights, and just natural oil no perfumes and he not only was prepared with various styles but was happy to show me all ingredients etc. At times the massage was intense which I like. Meaning it showed me my patterns and I just breathed and he worked and together released a lot of stress, and patterns. The 4th was specifically rough here in LB. So it felt great to work a lot of it out. I will definitely refer clients in the neighborhood to them. I met also his associate massage therapist and wife who seemed very friendly and caring. Love this place! Helping me tremendously with my post op knee replacement. Their Game Ready machine has a sleeve that compresses well above and below my knee, with alternating heat and cold. I'm a 42 year old man that doesn't stretch before gettin' buckets, doesn't fuel my body nearly as well as I should so of course I'm going to suffer with the inflammation and soreness and tightness and all the things as the kids say. Yeah, I'm a bit overweight too which doesn't help but Firm Hands could, periodt. Recently, I took him up on an offer to fix me up a bit at his facility including the type of equipment he KNEW would keep me on the court or playing with my son (and hush up my complaining if you ask him). Jonathon explain every step AND their benefits AND their purposes without me having to ask or worse just nod in acceptance. We began with a circulation machine for the coldness in my lower legs, moved on to the cold plunge bath for hot tub for my joints then wrapped it up with a 30min sit in an infrared sauna. What you might be thinking is that it was a cake walk... no, no, no they didn't take it easy on me. Everything was measured, attentive, and clean down to the hydration types. Afterwards, I've notice, since the second day of recovery I've slept better and my legs (which received the brunt of the treatment as requested) has felt more balanced and painless since. I know my legs aren't fixed but they are markedly improved. Next time I will push myself to get the full-body experience. Never again. I have no idea how this place has such good reviews. I went once a while ago just because it's close to my house. The massage was decent, but the ambiance was so terrible I said I'd never go back. I did just because my back was killing me and it's so easy to get to. The "waiting room" is like sitting in a fraternity. There was a kid playing in the middle of the reception area on an iPad full blast and when I walked up to the sitting area there was a big screen tv playing a random show. Definitely not what you think before getting a relaxing massage. My actual massage was decent, once waiting at least 15 minutes on the table for the woman to come back in. BLASTING construction noise the entire time and during the massage. While my masseuse was nice, she missed several areas I'd specifically pointed out and I'm 100% sure she was on her phone for most of the massage. Her texts were coming in on vibrate the entire time and about 6 different times she paused for several minutes which I can only assume was to text. Her phone also came on a video during the pitiful one handed neck massage at the end. The neck "massage" lasted forever and felt like nothing. Decided to try Firm Hands, because of their experience with myofascial massage. Went with the sports massage, due to injury. Purchased a package (4) 60 min massages for $390 = $97.50/ea Otherwise it's $130/hr Owner encouraged Shannyn, so decided to go with her. (Perhaps he is really busy) She did a really great job finding the knots, and creating relief! Massage is soft, though focused, and I needed to direct her what areas to focus on for each session. Though when asked to do my neck, the pressure was very weak. Worst part was being shorted on time, each and every time. Between 3 - 7 minutes. Adds up! Secondly, I was unable to schedule an appointment with Shannyn, (not sure why she can't do it herself) though, she has left repeated notes for the owner / receptionist, and I have never received a response. Shared this with Shannyn, and she seemed confused about it, too? So recommend calling same day. Though for the time being shorted, and lack of ease to schedule, and price (going elsewhere) Today was my last day. I went ahead and bought a 2nd package (during this 2 month period), but can no longer justify it. Integrity is really important, and today was the tipping point. I have to say I am disappointed with this business. It is not because of the quality of the massage, but because of the very active construction site that was not disclosed prior to booking. I booked at the very end of July 2024 for a birthday gift for my husband. Walking up the stairs we thought it was a closed business and we had made a mistake- it must closed to the public. There were multiple construction workers actively doing work, dust, and absolutely undone space. The only employee in the place turned out to be the massage therapist who apologized for their ongoing "construction work" that was very delayed, but there was no disclosure prior to arrival. It is now September 2024 and I just received an email coupon for another session which made me upset- how can a place be trusted for another session with the lack of transparency for a full price session?
