We really enjoyed our visit to Bog and Barley! We did not have reservations. We arrived around 6 PM on a Wednesday and had a 35-40 min wait. We sat at the bar during this time, which was beautiful! The bartender was attentive and friendly. I got the Empress of Ireland cocktail, and it was good. Nothing great but was refreshing. For food, we got the pimento cheese toasty. This was my favorite thing we ordered. I could have eaten so many more servings of it. Soooo good. We also got the fish and chips and a side of asparagus. Both were good. The waiter explained that most of the wood used in building the restaurant (in addition to the fireplace) was imported from Ireland. The menu had plenty of interesting choices. The atmosphere and ambiance alone are 10! The craftsmanship of the inside in amazing. There is an upstairs that I feel the need to return just to experience it alone. Quick review, this place is both great and unique it is certainly an interesting new addition to the "Memphis Culinary Scene." I know that probably sounds like an unnecessarily pompous way to describe a "higher end pub," but it's hard to describe it in a more pedestrian manner. However, I'm still going to try. Everything, food and service wise is fantastic yet the prices keep as an occasional treat rather than a "local hang." Having said that, if it was cheaper or I was wealthy I would definitely move it from a "special occasion" spot to an "every Friday" kind of place. Great work, keep it up. read more

First time coming here for brunch. It was OK. I had the burger which tasted like an upscale Big Mac. The duck fat fries were good. The home fries that my parents had were way too salty and inedible. I got coffee and nobody asked any us for refills. It is extremely noisy for a Sunday with live music. I like to go to a brunch without live music. read more

Open for less than a year, this beautiful and enormous Irish pub was lovely. Absolutely detailed with carved Irish wood right down to several "snugs". Large assortment of Irish whiskies and traditional Irish fare. We tried their smoked fish dip with potato chips and horseradish aioli - delicious and filling. Service was attentive and friendly. My leek and potato soup was very good and well seasoned, and came with a slice of homemade bread. Partners bangers and mash was as good as it gets, with a delicious grainy mustard on the side. Bog & Barley is like a large Irish pub/restaurant. Great ambiance! The day my companion and I were there (Sunday afternoon), there was live music. It was entertaining and not too loud. For an appetizer, we shared an order of Scotch Eggs. First time I have ever had them and they were unbelievably good! Definitely order them if you visit Bog & Barley. My companion had the Irish potato-leek soup and I had the Reuben sandwich. The soup was very good and my sandwich had the right proportion of corned beef and sauce on toasted wheat with country potatoes and peppers. We sat upstairs. Service was excellent. Waiters worked together i.e. one waiter (not ours) noticed that our water glasses were almost empty and refilled them. That is always an indication of a good restaurant in my opinion. I had a good experience at Bog & Barkeu. All of the wood decor and high ceilings gave the pub the Irish feel. My only complaint was the Guiness tasted American poured. The food was great. The beef tar tar was the best of the apps I ordered follow by the Scotch Egg. The service was very good as well. WOW! It is breathtaking, from the rustic entrance to the intricate Maine level bar and dining to the muted lounge and small bar upstairs. Every detail is well considered and provides an aesthetic that is only rivaled by the whiskey selection, menu breadth and food quality and the terrific service! What a great experience at this restaurant. We went with a group of friends for brunch and had a perfect time from beginning to end. First the space itself is beautiful and extremely well done. Lots of different subareas on the main floor so you don't feel like part of a huge room, plus a great second room and bar upstairs. Everything looks rich and well appointed with beautiful wood and comfortable chairs. We were seated upstairs near the bar, but never felt like being in a bar area. Our server was pleasant, efficient, attentive and accurate at all times. Water was brought to our table of 12 immediately and she was there right away to go over any menu questions. Everyone got a drink menu as well as a food menu, so we did not have to pass a drink menu up and down the table to wait for people. My Bloody Mary was good but I thought a bit on the small side. My wife had a blood moon that she thought was excellent. As drinks were being delivered the server took our food orders. I had the Irish Breakfast, and everything was flavorful and well prepared. The potatoes were particularly good. My wife had the asparagus omelet, which was perfectly prepared - done but not burned at all in any location. Up and down our table, our friends were happy with what they ordered. We attended the soft opening and walked away thinking Memphis needed this place so badly! The interior is stunning, and any photos you see do not do it justice. To take the attention to detail of having the bar built in Ireland and then shipping it to Memphis in pieces to be rebuilt says it all. We had one appetizer, Scotch Egg. It was perfectly cooked, and the mustard they serve it on top of was outstanding! For entrees, we order the Fish N Chips and the B&B Burger. The burger was amazing and was well balanced. Immediately one of the best burgers in the city! Fish N Chips was also great. The fish was served as one large piece, which was a bit messy, but my goodness, the meat of the fish was cooked perfectly tender, which takes the finesse of a few seconds of cooking time window. The service and ambiance of the restaurant was great. It was my first time here and decided to come here for my boyfriend's bday after a co-worker recommended it. My boyfriend had the mussels which he really enjoyed. They were plump and had good flavor. I had the shepherds pie which was good but I wasn't impressed with it. It had your typically veggies and meat but felt like it didn't wasn't topped with enough mashed potatoes. I also had sprigs of herbs that I had to dig out of my shepherds pie. The creme brulee was good flavor wise for the custard but the sugar topping was burnt to a point that we couldn't eat some of it. Overall the restaurant ambiance and service were good but felt like my food and the dessert missed the mark. If you enjoy seafood then I would recommend Bog and Barley but maybe not for a birthday. read more

I honestly do not even know how to write about our experience there this afternoon. We arrived around 4:00, intending to take advantage of the happy hour drinks (featured in recent Instagram posts) then dinner. Started to be shown to a table but I mentioned the drink specials, and were told that only applies at the bar so we sat there to start. It was not particularly crowded and there were no less than 4 staff behind the bar, but it was like we were invisible. Finally, a woman asked for our drink order and we gave it. Pretty simple - a glass of wine and a Guinness draft. We saw others being served, and complex mixed drinks being made and served to others (who ordered after us) and still we sat...finally after 10 minutes of no drinks appearing, we walked out. It looked like a great place and we would have spent a good chunk of change, moving on to dinner but we'll never know I guess read more

Wow. That is my one word review of this placed. "WOW". Let me start off by prefacing that I don't particularly love "Irish pubs" or strip mall eateries in general. That said, I was absolutely blown away by pretty much everything during my recent outing here. A colleague had suggested this on a previous visit and my last visit said colleague and another friend suggested, so who am I to say no? Upon entering, I was blown away by the decor, atmosphere and general vibe. While in a strip mall, you couldn't tell. HUGE wood decor and ornamentation, a 2nd floor area for seating, massive bar that appears to be a virtual ton. The bar program here is great. They hit the nail on the head with regional (Irish/Memphis) beers and spirits. They also have a great cocktail program and very high tier spirits selection. The food menu while pub fair forward, had some non pub fair as well. I opted for the burger with duck fat fries with malt aioli and roasted brussels. My friend and I shared the roasted artichoke hearts. I'll come out and say that their fries and aioli were probably the best I've had in recent years. The burger was massive and quite tasty as well. The brussels were quite good and come with an interesting setup/plating. The service was another pleasant surprise. Extremely attentive to the point that I commented "I wasn't expecting fine dining in a pub!" Our server chuckled and commented that they had just discussed their service during a pre-shift. I like this place and have visited it at least half a dozen times. The food is great, but my most recent visit was subpar. We arrived around 4:30 and were seated in the garden room in the front of the building right by the front door. I almost requested that we get a table inside but didn't because it was quiet in the garden room. I assumed it might be quieter since only a couple of tables were occupied. Big mistake. Every time someone entered the building, we had a big gush of cold air. Plus, the sun was setting and soon was blazing into hubby's eyes. He had to move to another side of the table. Then people started arriving and accumulating in the garden room. It seemed like they were all from a work group, and they all stood around drinking and talking to each other. The quiet room quickly became a very noisy room. I'm old and could hardly carry on a conversation with hubby. Our server was busy taking care of the other patrons, so our service was slow. We quickly ate and left. I will go back but will never sit in the garden room. read more
