Liquor Store MEM 27 July 2026 Synopsis: Breakfast worth crossing state lines. There are restaurants that feed you. Then there are restaurants that grab you by the collar, slap the stupid out of your face, pour you a generous vodka, and remind you why civilization bothered inventing fire. Liquor Store is the latter. You'll find it at the corner of Poplar and Mendenhall, where Memphis traffic oozes through the intersection like molasses contemplating life. Parking isn't abundant, so prepare to circle a bit. We somehow snagged the very last space, which immediately felt like the culinary gods whispering, "Yeah... today's your day." The second you walk inside, the heat dies. Not "bank lobby in Memphis where your sweat flash-freezes into an ice sculpture" cold. Just perfectly air-conditioned. The kind of temperature where your body finally stops negotiating with humidity and starts believing in happiness again. The room breathes. High ceilings--but not cathedral or airplane-hangar ridiculous. Just enough space to make the place feel alive without feeling like you're eating breakfast in a Costco. Then comes the staff. Fast. Friendly. Professional. Zero wasted motion. These people move with the confidence of mechanics during a Formula One pit stop. Nobody is pretending to be busy. They actually are busy, and somehow they're smiling while doing it. Tyler had our backs from beginning to end. Now let's talk about whoever was commanding the kitchen. That beautiful lunatic has BTUs at his fingertips and clearly understands that cooking is not merely chemistry--it is controlled violence against hunger. I ordered the Sweet Potato Hash. Normally it comes with vegan sausage. No. Absolutely not. Life is too short. I asked if they could substitute chicken instead. They didn't blink. No sigh. No "let me ask." No drama. Just an effortless, "Sure." About four minutes later--and I was the kind of hungry where I'd have considered eating the menu--that masterpiece landed in front of me. Friends... I've eaten breakfast from San Francisco to New York, from roadside diners to hotel brunches where they charge you because they know you'll pay. This was the best breakfast hash I've ever eaten. The chicken was juicy. The sweet potatoes had actual personality instead of being sugary mush. The sautéed spinach deserved its own fan club. Then there was the sunny-side-up egg. Listen carefully. A proper sunny-side egg is one of the great disappearing arts. This one had crisp edges worthy of applause while the yolk remained gloriously molten, ready to flood every bite with liquid gold. Not greasy. Not overloaded with salt. Not trying to impress Instagram. Just perfect. Then there was the vodka. And bless these people... When they say "well vodka," they apparently interpret that as, "Let's not insult the customer." They pour a genuinely respectable shot instead of the microscopic chemistry experiment too many places call a cocktail. It arrived with our chasers in what felt like under a minute. That's confidence. That's hospitality. That's Memphis. The music stayed exactly where good restaurant music belongs--in the background. Cool enough to create atmosphere but never loud enough to hijack conversation. Whoever curates that playlist deserves a raise. I intended to carefully analyze every flavor. Instead, I inhaled the contents of that little cast-iron skillet with the elegance of a starving wolf wearing a necktie. By the time I thought, "I should really study the seasoning..." there was nothing left but an empty cast-iron skillet, one lonely hash brown that had escaped onto the plate like the last survivor of a glorious battle, and absolutely zero regrets. Here's the dangerous thing about Liquor Store: Nothing feels forced. Nothing screams for attention. Nobody acts like they're doing you a favor. The entire experience is so effortlessly dialed in that excellence feels completely ordinary--which is probably the highest compliment I can give a restaurant. We had a long drive ahead of us toward Bristol, and I genuinely didn't want to leave Memphis because it meant leaving this place behind. If I were on death row and the warden slid the final meal request across the table? I'd hand it back with two words. "Liquor Store." Then I'd ask Tyler to bring one more of those gloriously generous well-vodka pours while the kitchen wizard cracked one last sunny-side egg--the kind with crisp, lacey edges and a yolk so perfectly runny it ought to be protected by federal law. The Liquor Store never disappoints. I ordered the Cuban Queso Burrito, and it was outstanding. The chicken was incredibly flavorful, the queso tied everything together, and every bite was delicious. I also tried the Blueberry Pie Latte, which tasted just like blueberry pie in a cup. It was the perfect pairing with brunch. Great food, great atmosphere, and friendly service. It has been a while since I've visited The Liquor Store. However, this time the service was lacking. We came in and Tyler was supposed to be our server but we received another older lady with glasses (Carol from the check) that didn't tell us her name but dropped off water, took our order and didn't check on us at all. We had to ask her for the check to cash out. This was after sitting there for 10 minutes after being done. She chatted with the guys right behind us so much that we never got all of our order. We never got the coffee we ordered. Such a shame....however the Ube Pancakes are THE ONLY PANCAKES THEY SHOULD HAVE....the best in the world!!! The veggie sausage was a bit burnt on one side but the flavor and texture of the pancakes...PERFECT. Will order these every time I come. The mushroom gravy just hasn't been the same since the Broad Ave location. We will likely order something different because that was a staple at the previous location. Great food, great improvement, but service is lacking now since 20% is guaranteed on every check. We will visit again but likely order To-Go for further orders. read more

Very cute place, the staff was extremely friendly. Went in early in the morning for breakfast and there was tons of seating. We sat outside on the enclosed porch, it was very nice they had lots of fun so it was great temperature. We had a classic breakfast and a pork belly and grits. Coffee was decent latte is very large. Food was okay, a lot of flavors in one dish. Seems like they're trying to be a little Southern meets a little cuban? Overall good place for breakfast and very well priced. read more

Cute atmosphere and a Cuban-inspired menu for brunch/lunch! It's an old retro vibe with pink palm trees and pink napkins. We had the Breakfast Tacos- so good! Corn tortillas stuffed with your choice of protein (I chose the Cuban Chicken). Would recommend as it is flavorful and filling. I've come here several times in the past 2 weeks, and I always order four eggs. I know what four eggs looks like because I make them for myself and order them very frequently. Both times in the past few weeks they brought me two eggs. I insisted they make it right, but I was essentially told (paraphrasing) that the new management says two eggs is the new four. I don't know how bad things must be with this restaurant group that they have decided to commit egg fraud, but here we are. I'm obviously never coming back. Things at SOB East are not good either. Although they both have good people working there, the food has gone downhill and is barely edible there. Liquor Store has also decided to use cheap bready sausages now that are likely bottom of the barrel quality as well. I can't imagine the rest of their food is now any better. read more

This place is pretty poplar. I have been to Sunday Brunch twice. My family really likes them. It is average for me. I tried the chopped cheese and fries. It was very hot and fresh. Family had traditional breakfast fare and they enjoyed it. 2nd visit I tried the smoked sausage, biscuit and potatoes. The smoked sausage and biscuit was subpar. Won't get that again. I'm really on the fence about this place. It was an average experience. read more

Tried it for the first time. I had the Cuban Queso Burrito and it was quite good though the two sauces served with it were bland and didn't really add anything to the sandwich. I will say it was very busy when we came but the food was delicious. When I'm out to eat I usually look at other people's plates as well and I swear every plate looked good as well. This was my first time coming to this location, - usually I like to catch the one on Broad Ave when I'm alone, because there is typically not a wait - walked in with a friend who was visiting Memphis, and there was only about a 15 minute wait until we were seated. It was a Sunday and the place was fairly crowded so no complaints there. This location is much bigger than the one on Broad. There is a little coffee counter tucked away in the right corner of the restaurant, and you may order a coffee or tea here while you wait for your seating to become available. I got a chai, and it was piping hot. We enjoyed the food and the ambience was cool. Heads up on parking - it took me almost 10 minutes to find a spot. This is located in a sort of jumbled shopping center. Quite a few business on the strip, as well as another restaurant, and only a double row of parking spots. So, not nearly enough during a time of day where both restaurants, at minimum, would be crowded. I drove around the lot in circles waiting until I could catch someone leaving. read more

Great brunch spot in the heart of East Memphis. Who knew you could walk in The Liquor Store and walk out without liquor? (See what I did there lol) It's such a cute spot. Perfect for a girls brunch date. So many cute pic opportunities and it's just a fun atmosphere. My husband even liked the decor. It passed the vibe check. It's noisy so be ready for that. They have indoor and outdoor seating too. As far as the food I had the short stack and my husband had the patty melt. He loved his sandwich and my food was good especially the home fries. My eggs were basic but I'm an egg snob so I'm sure they're just fine. And this was some of the best restaurant bacon I've ever had. I had to try a cocktail so I got the passion fruit mimosa. The food was meh. We had a trainee who knew nothing about the menu. She was very nice, but we couldn't ask a single question without her having to "be back in one moment." Was totally excited for the atmosphere and we were seated outside. It was a beautiful day, but a basic patio experience is pretty much a basic patio experience. Stopped by The Liquor Store yesterday to eat lunch with a friend. I had the Ahi Tuna Grain Bowl. The serving was pretty big so I took half of it home. The different ingredients made the salad very inviting. It was okay. My friend had the burger and it was over cooked for her. The fries were okay but not stellar. She might have eaten five to ten of them. She left a lot on her plate. I had a cup of drip coffee which was excellent. It was nice and smooth with a bold flavor. My friend ordered a cappuccino and she said it was quite good. Our server Alex was very nice and attentive. I asked for personal recommendations and she was open and honest about what she enjoyed eating. She came to refill our water and my coffee often. The place was pretty busy so it took a while for our food to arrive to us. The restaurant has a cool decor with pink and white as the predominant colors. There is patio seating and a full bar with an open area with a couch and comfy chairs for patrons to sit. The parking lot is small because of the multiple businesses there but I did find a space. Be aware the restaurant attaches an automatic gratuity charge of 20%. The service was pretty good but sometimes this is a deterrent to give more if you have awesome service. That is my opinion. Came for the first time Saturday morning. The place was pretty empty so we were sat right away. I love the decor/theme it really creates a fun and relaxing ambiance. We were waited on pretty quickly by a friendly and knowledgeable server. She even suggested some really good cocktails that weren't on the menu such as the Irish coffee. We also got a hot toddy, both were really good but be mindful they're a little heavy on the alcohol. The food was pretty good, the biscuit and pancakes were nice and fluffy-melt in your mouth but can get a little dry (make sure to have water). All of the food was seasoned well which was nice and a rarity. We got a side of plantain, really great choice and cooked to perfection. I can't wait to go back for brunch! I went during lunch with my colleagues and truly enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and, service! We started out with the benyays! They were light and fluffy with just enough powdered sugar. Plus it comes with a delicious caramel sauce. For my meal, I went light that day. I had the Acai Bowl. It comes with frozen acai blend, house made granola, greek yogurt, honey, fresh fruit. I wish it wasn't so soupy because other than that it was good. The price point was good as well. The Liquor Store might be one of the best kept secrets in Memphis. Their pancakes are always good. The atmosphere is always great and we get the best service. They don't take reservations so there is usually a 45-60 minute wait on the weekends, but it is well worth it as a brunch spot. read more

Finally got the visit the new location! Last time I came with my mom, we couldn't find parking so we left. My first visit ever was to the location on Broad, so I wanted to give this location a try and compare the two. Stopped in on a Friday morning just before 11a. I was greeted by the hosts and shown to a seat immediately. This location does seem a bit bigger than Broad, as they have outside seating as well. It still gets pretty packed and parking is limited. As for the food, I gave the biscuit beignets another try. They were softer this time, but still nothing super special. Not bad, but I probably won't order them again. I also ordered the pancake stack with scrambled eggs and turkey sausage. Huge pancakes (I forgot how big they serve them) filled me up fast. Everything else was okay. They add an automatic 20% gratuity to every check, so keep that in mind. Overall, it was a nice experience. I'd likely return to try something else on the menu. read more

This is the cutest little place for a great experience in food and ambiance. Two party ticket, one ordered breakfast and the other, me ordered lunch and both were good. I enjoyed the breakfast more because I love a good pancake and they hit this one out the park or maybe out the door, lol. The perfect middle with crunchy edge and the flavor is more funnel cake which I like! Pancakes, eggs and ham then I had a patty melt which was just a burger on toast and yes there is a difference. Man, I wanted to like this place. I met a friend for lunch on a Monday. We were told it was a 15 minute wait; didn't seem super-crowded so no problem. At 40 minutes, I checked and was told that we were next but people just weren't leaving. Host was very friendly and engaging so that is a positive. But I'm sorry, managing tables is part of the job....there is a way to nudge people along and even "ladies who lunch" take a cue. At 55 minutes, we were seated. We purused the menu, looked up things we weren't sure of, made our decisions and waited....and waited....after 10 minutes of no one stopping by the table to take drink orders or even acknowledge us, we left. One of the people we had conversed with in the waiting area who had been seated before us let us know it had taken a while to get food anyway.
