We came to the Bog Turtle on a random Tuesday night after driving through the Herr's potato chips factory Christmas light display. It was only another 15 minutes past Herr's and the reviews were stellar. We ordered some beers, it's really refreshing to see breweries that brew for the season, not just pump out hazy IPAs. We ordered a brown ale and a red ale, both were top notch! So glad I remembered to grab our growler before we left the house. We were able to take home a delicious 64oz of beer to have later. I ordered the chicken and waffles... One of the best versions of this classic I've had. Came with a blueberry sauce and the hostess suggested I get some hot sauce too... Perfect sweet, spicy, crunchy chicken over a pillowy waffle. Daughter got the kids chicken sandwich and everyone else got specials. It was a delicious meal. Nothing fancy but really tasty. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had trivia going on the big projector but we didn't partake. They had a small stage with toys on it where my daughter played and did some coloring before our food came out[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I've eaten here twice on visits to Rising Sun. The service is always friendly. They have a wide selection of their brews but not to an overwhelming extent. The food is delicious with very limited options for vegetarians but I feel that their food is overpriced, especially when they charge a fifty-cent premium EACH for ketchup or mustard on a five dollar hot dog! Nice atmosphere. We were immediatley greeted for seating. Got the Cattail Honey Brown Amber Ale...three times. It is a tasty beer. Pretzel appetizer with spicy mustard and beer cheese was ok. The pretzel was too hard on the ouside. I had the grilled romaine salad with chicken. Good portion and the dressing was excellent. Hubs got Cajun sausage sandwhich and said it was aoutside. They have a great selection of beers and seltzers for every palette, and they are constantly rotating in new beers. The service is top notch. We've been wanting to try this place for a hot minute and finally got to with friends the other week. Two of us got beer flights, so we got to experience a bunch of what the brewery had to offer and I was pleasantly surprised to find there wasn't one beer I didn't like. The cider was my only "eh" but I'm someone who likes them more dry to begin with. Food was delicious but our table felt there was a bit of a disparity of quantity and price - for example, my bbq pork sandwich held much more volume than my husbands shrimp grilled cheese and the two were roughly the same price. But that's honestly our only "complaint". Wasn't sure about this place till we walked in. Very nice and rustic, and relaxing atmosphere. Surprisingly it wasn't very busy on a mid Sunday afternoon. We did a beer flight and tried some hard seltzers. The beer was good, but the hard seltzer was amazing. Our server told us the have just a basic plain hard seltzer then add their syrups to them. The tropical seltzer tasted just like summer in a glass! We liked it so much we got a crowler size bottle to go with a smidge of blackberry. We will definitely be back! read more

What a great little hidden gem. My husband and I have been trying to hit every brewery in Maryland and Bog Turtle has been on our list. We decided to check it out on a Saturday evening to grab a beer. Unfortunately we had just eaten beforehand because the entire food menu sounded incredible!!! I ordered the First Anthem and it was so yummy and refreshing. While we were hanging out in the couch area, the owner/manager stopped by to check in on us and she was so friendly and attentive. She even gave us cards for a free pint for our next visit which was so sweet and unexpected. She told us they are opening up a breakfast spot across the street sometime in the Fall so we can't wait to come back to try the breakfast and grab a pint afterwards ;) great place to hang out, grab some food and a great beer or few!! We need to get back up to the Bog Turtle Brewery in Rising Sun, MD. Our first visit was just the best. The beer & food were fabulous. The service was super fast. People were having lunch and a kid was playing a game. Looks like they have a stage for entertainment. We were able to park directly in front. We visit Cecil Co every now & then. The other time we drank Bog Turtle beer was at a Dove Valley Winery craft show. We plan to be at the Blue Elk Winery on 12/4. I'm sure they are just as friendly as the other two. read more

Great food, great service, and great beer! We stopped for lunch (with our 16 month old). [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had high chairs, which we really appreciated![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the hog wings as an appetizer, a grilled chicken sandwich (OMG so good) and a Nashville hot chicken sandwich as our mains. Our daughter had a burger and fries. We got a beer sampler and everything we tried we liked. It was hard to choose which one to get a pint of. They had a lot of hard seltzers, but we didn't have time to try one (note they cannot be included in a sampler). I wish we had room for dessert-they had some nice options! This may be our new favorite local spot. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful. We did a couple of flights so that we could taste everything they brew and we were not disappointed. They had a strong stout which was delicious, and the sour was super flavorful. We enjoyed every single beer they had on tap. We got the poutine fries (just do it, so good), filet mignon sliders (also do that, also so good) and a side of fries with boom boom sauce. My husband, daughter, and I grabbed some beers and some food here this afternoon. My husband had a steak sandwich, my daughter and I split the flat bread, and we all split the bog turtle pretzel. My husband's sandwich he said was delicious but small for $18 and had no sides (chips, fries etc.). Our flatbread was tasty, but also small enough that it fit on a paper plate. The pretzel was good but came out scalding hot. We both had a beer and split a seltzer- all were good. It was not very dog friendly. Outside seating is very limited and on the sidewalk next to a busy ( noisy) intersection. The sidewalk is dirty, cigarette butts, street dirt, etc. no one brought a water bowl for our pup, though the waitress staff was friendly to him. read more

As is usual for BTB, beer is good and food is mediocre at best. I've been many times and usually leave feeling disappointed in the food. Beer and service are good though. Most recently I took my daughter for lunch. She had a burger which was as average and I had the supposed tenderloin sandwich which may have been the toughest meat I've ever tried to chew. Seriously. They may claim this was tenderloin, but it wasn't. It could've been called tougherloin. Sadly, their fries are probably the only thing good on their menu. Always skeptical about a new brewery finding its legs. However, Bog Turtle has started off well. Beer wise, their beers are not going to blow you away but they are SOLID for being so young. Their Hoodoo Haze was the best of the bunch. While having a small menu, their food was plated well. I ordered the quesadilla and added the chicken. It was FANTASTIC! One of the best quesadillas I've had in a long time. Full of flavor, plenty of cheese, sour cream, and the tortillas were crispy. Overall, it was a good first experience and if we come close to Rising Sun, we will definitely stop again. (I am very picky with breweries who haven't had a year plus in the business). My husband and It's "thing" is to visit breweries and just check them out. This may be our favorite. The beers were soooooo good. I even took a chance on some styles that I typically don't like at other breweries and they were so well done. To summarize: enjoyable and relaxing. Excellent and friendly service, delicious beers, tasty food, and thumbs up on the vibe. I really like how it's located on Main Street. Why? Centrally located in Rising Sun, it's hard to miss as you drive thru the town and and a must stop. There's street parking as well as a private lot in the back. I was highly impressed with the ambiance. The furniture and fixtures convey a modern day industrial feel yet cozy and warm and inviting. Every detail was well thought out from the bar stools to the wall paint color to the light fixture. Check out their website for pictures. In addition to having the cider and the hoppa poppa IPA, we ordered the brisket ($10) and baked beans ($2.50). Everything was of quality on par with high end big city fare. The zesty and crispy pickled onion and cucumbers were such a nice addition to the smoked, deep flavors of the brisket. The toasted bread slice was also a great touch. They also offer Belgian frites so we'll be back for that next time. We look forward to returning very, very soon!! read more
