This is a certified date spot. You have the ambiance- that's giving love, it's cozy. This place has two of my Fav genres- Latin and Asian. I was so excited to try this menu. We started off Mofongo wantons. The plate had some soy sauce on bottom of plate and two pieces of perfect crunchy pieces of pork belly . I gave this a 6/10. While the dish was delish, it was not giving Mofongo. The plantain was mushy almost like mash planting-aka 3 golpes. In addition to this we got the ox tail samosas. These were 10/10. Pure perfection. Fresh samosa crust with lots of meat. For dinner we split the fried red snapper with coconut rice and said of plantains. This was 10/10: thr fish was seasoned, crust was crunchy and I love that it was fillet. For drink I got the boka tini and the hubs got the Long Island iced tea. Drinks were very good, nice pours and cool cups Overall the night was a 10. The only hiccup was the guy that walked from the street and sat down next to us (@ a dirty table as patrons had just left) drank their left over drinks and asked my husband for money. The waiters were oblivious, if they noticed they did nothing. The man moved on to the bar and asked another man for money. Thank god this guy kept it moving.

My friend and I came here last night to celebrate her belated birthday, and it's a very cute and trendy spot. During dinner they had a DJ and someone playing the electric violin, which was super cool, though I will say it did get very loud, so be prepared for the volume to get turned up on the weekend. We were seated right away and were walked through the menu with our server, which was nice. As for food, we ordered the lemongrass shrimp dumplings and the cod croquets to share. Both very extremely flavorful, and delicious. My friend also ordered the mofongo dumplings and she said they were delicious as well. For dessert, we shared the custard tart which was so good with a popcorn ice cream. I would definitely come back here again, though maybe for an earlier dinner or to try out brunch sometime.

First review of the New Year -- Happy New Year, my Yelpies!! Good eats and grand vibes to kick things off! This review is for Bokaguá, a Dominican-Asian fusion spot my brother found for dinner while we were in the Bronx. We didn't want to drive far, so he did what we all do -- hit Instagram. And let me tell you... IG did NOT disappoint. The Vibe Vibe check? PASSED. The lighting is great, the atmosphere and ambiance are on point, and this place truly works for everything: * Date night (fellas, this is an A+) * Ladies night / girls night for tea and giggles * Quiet dinner * Catch-ups * Family outings It fits all the vibes. You can really see the fusion throughout the decor. You're given chopsticks and regular silverware, there are multiple water options (still, sparkling, etc.), and the whole setup just feels thoughtful and intentional. The Menu The menu is built around sharing, which I love. * Small Shares = appetizers * Large Shares = entrees Drinks? Also hit. Now let's get into this food. Small Shares Mofongo Dumplings These come with crispy chicharrón (pork belly). Whoever decided to mix these two food groups is a mad scientist -- in the best way. Not my favorite small share overall, but the chicharrón was crispy, juicy, and DELICIOUS, and the mofongo absolutely did its thing. Caribbean Oxtail Samosas Listen... the Caribbean in me loves a good oxtail, and these did me RIGHT. They come with yellow curry yogurt, watermelon hot sauce, and mango banilejo salsa -- yes, all of that. Even my brother, who does not like oxtails, tore these up. That should tell you something. Korean Fried Chicken Wings BABY. THESE WINGS. Hands down my favorite small share. Tender, crispy, great size, and the sauce?? EVERYTHING. It's a Dominican rum + gochujang glaze, served with an avocado lime crema. We were dipping. We were eating. We were happy. I'm already planning to order these again when I go back -- because I will be going back. Large Shares Fried Crispy Red Snapper (my brother's dish) Served with green curry sauce, papaya chili salad, and coconut rice. This was our least favorite dish. The fish itself was bland and very heavily breaded, which made it hard to enjoy the snapper. That said -- the coconut rice was delicious, and the papaya chili salad was something I didn't know I needed. Jjajang Braised Short Rib THIS was it for me. It comes with sweet plantain purée, tostone crumbs, and a chayote starfruit slaw. The short rib was tender, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The best bites were when everything was on the fork together -- absolutely worth it and zero disappointment. Dessert We finished with Dulce de Coco Enyucao -- vanilla ice cream, passion fruit caramel, cassava and shredded coconut cake roll. It was my first time trying it. I didn't love it, but it was a cute, sweet way to end the meal. Drinks & Service My brother got an espresso martini -- on point. I like mine sweeter, he likes his more bitter, and it worked for both of us (which says a lot). I let our server choose my drink and he nailed it with the Coconut Limonada -- smooth, refreshing, and a cute little buzz. Service was great. Our server gave solid recommendations, checked on us, and made sure we were good. Tip was included in the bill -- not sure if that's automatic or time-based, but just be aware. Final Thoughts I definitely recommend Bokaguá. It's a fun fusion, great vibe, mostly strong dishes, and an experience worth trying. Go check it out and let me know what you think. New year, new eats -- and this one started us off right.

I absolutely loved everything about my Bokagua experience. The food here is delicious and the ambiance is great too. The staff is very friendly and accommodating as well. I would call this place a neighborhood gem! Just about everything is meant to be shared and is absolutely delicious. I especially enjoy the lobster fried rice, samosas, and the short rib. But honestly, you cannot go wrong here. I can't wait to come back and try everything on the menu. Did I mention the drinks are awesome? I'm only taking off one star for the lack of kid friendly options, you're pretty much "stuck" with Korean wings (which are quite tasty). But, I do wish they added some more kid friendly thighs like French fries. Maybe with a flare! I can't wait to come back in an adult only circle ;)

Quick summary: went to celebrate my son's 35th birthday. Wanted a small personal setting and Bokagua more than delivered. The entire experience was a WOW from the ambiance, to the service, to the food. I won't give anything away because you should go and just be prepared for a culinary fantasy come true. Ambiance was elegant with excellent music and mood lighting. The decor did indeed give the rainforest in the middle of the city vibe. The bathroom: a true experience!! The waterfall sink....really clean. Kinda dark but your eyes adjust. Pretty cool. Service was quick and on point. We absolutely never felt neglected or over powered. Food was fast (snapper did require extra time to be prepared and cooked but we were told that from the beginning) and tasted beyond words. There was never a moment where there was not food or drink in our table. The servers were very friendly, gave food tutorials (how to eat the mofongo etc) and extra patient with us as we ordered, tasted, and ordered again!! Food: we literally ordered almost everything available on the menu and then ordered seconds for many of the small shares. There was absolutely nothing we did not like. Our taste buds were in heaven and the chef satisfied all our pallets. If we had to pick favorites: the Salmon Salpicon on the tostones (I would eat that alone!), the oxtail samosas, the Braised short ribs (the plantain purée was phenomenal and a side that outshone the main item...they couldn't sell it to me separately, drats), the fried Red snapper was a melt in your mouth (watch the bones) delight. The drinks were excellent and the flavors burst in the mouth without being overpowered by alcohol but after a few sips, you knew the alcohol was there!! And the drink glasses were exquisite! It took everything not to drop one or two in my bag! I told them they should sell them. Menu: note the menu is divided into small shares (apertivos), large shares, sides, and desserts. Small Share sizes are acceptable for 2 people and large shares for 3-4. We shared the braised rib with 3 people and we each had a satisfying amount. I do believe that for the amount of $$$ we spent, the second glass of ginger ale could have been on the house but it is what it is. Note: the tip is included. The machine only calculates for any additional (percent above 18) that you may wish to reward. Would I go back? Definitely without question, they will see me again. Bronx on the culinary map!

So I traveled over an hour from Brooklyn to come try out this spot I've been seeing all over Instagram and it did not disappoint! I was so glad to find parking right in front of the restaurant. So lots of street / meter parking available which was a plus for me. I went on a Saturday night with my cousins for a girls dinner...walking in, we thought it was so beautiful. The lighting, the greenery and roses from the ceilings dropping down looks so beautiful. It also smelled like Sage! Could've also been from the sage they burn from the Forest Fire drink on their menu... We started with drinks... I got the Forest Fire which was a mezcal based drink so delicious . The waiter burned the sage and it made our table smell so good. My cousins ordered a Mamajuana drink from their cocktail menu.... For food We ordered a few plates to share.... Tostones, Korean bbq wings, grilled shrimp, lobster fried rice. Def a place I'd like to bring my husband to soon.

I'll admit, I judged a book by its cover. I judged BOKAGUÁ on its customers... but the food did not disappoint. The place is beautifully decorated! We didn't have a reservation but we were in the area and decided to try. The service was great, everyone was very attentive. Plate after plate everything was just getting better and better! We started with the Cesar salad, the cod croquettes and tuna tartar which came with the best tostones! The croquettes were so delicious we ordered a second plate! We were hoping to try the lobster fried rice but we were so full! The waiter convinced us to try this coconut dessert that was out of the world. It was basically like a warmed Dominican coconut dulce with ice cream on the side. We had two rounds of the Margo (passion fruit margarita), so delicious! Would definitely add to the list of restaurants we return to!

I came to Bokagua on Riverdale Ave around 10 PM for cocktails after dinner at Tobalá and had a great experience. The service was consistent, the drinks were delicious, and the music was really fun. The atmosphere was lively, which is something I wish more places in the area had. If you're looking for good music and well crafted drinks, this is definitely a spot to check out. I've also had their food before, and the flavors were on point.

Bokaguá Restaurant is a fusion of Dominican & Asian Cuisine. It's absolutely beautiful with its dim lighting, hanging ceiling florals & vines, tasteful glass & hanging lighting, wall decor & fusion of Chill House/Club & Bomba-like/Caribbean music. The place is romantic, welcoming & friendly. The food & presentation are creative delicious & has a creaminess to everything. The coconut cod croquettes were so good, presented on their Japanese plate on a bed of stones. I only wish they would have been bigger. The Lobster Fried Rice was creamy & perfectly cooked with a creamy bisque that was poured over it & good size chunks of lobster. The Duck Confit stuffed Tortelloni was just as creamy & the Dulce de Leche dessert was decadent & the cold ice cream & warm cake complimented each other. The suggested cocktail was smooth & not too sweet. This dining experience was definitely pleasing to the soul with every bite. Bokaguá translates into Mouth Watering; this is definitely true!

So a nice addition to my neighbor but haven't been able to patronize immediately due to the menu and the boyfriend's shell fish allergies. But my girlfriends brought me for my delayed birthday celebration (Libra baby). Atmosphere nice; Staff very polite and responsible attentive; the food responsible seasoned and balanced - I look forward to attending again. We visited this place to celebrate my birthday, nestled on a cozy block in Riverdale where parking was conveniently manageable. Upon entering, we loved the ambiance, which gave a modern Tulum vibe. As we looked at the menu, the waiter came over and the first thing he informed us was that we had only 60 to 90 minutes due to the busy evening, which was quite off-putting. No one appreciates being rushed, especially without considering how many drinks or how much food we might order. We started with drinks, opting for the La Morga and Forrest Fire--both were good choices. For appetizers, we were torn between the Korean fried wings and the oxtail samosas. After reading some reviews, we decided on the Korean fried chicken wings, and we were pleased with our choice--they were crispy and well-seasoned. For the main course, we ordered the braised short ribs with coconut rice, as it came highly recommended in most reviews. Unfortunately, we only received one order initially and had to wait nearly 10 minutes for the second, followed by an additional 5 minutes for the rice. Nonetheless, the food was delicious. The plantain puree was flavorful, the ribs were tender and well-seasoned, and the rice, though in a very small portion, was quite good despite the $7 price tag. Towards the end of our night despite feeling rushed, we noticed several empty seats, which made the waiter's premature comment even more frustrating. Overall, the experience was good, although the service could use some improvement, as we only saw the waiter a couple of times. The inclusion of the tip might explain the lack of attentiveness.

The only possible inconvenience I can foresee is parking if you're not one of God's favorites. Other than that the music's good, foods great, the temperature is accommodating. Enjoy.

The service was also top tier. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure we were taken care of the entire time, which I really appreciated for a special occasion. As for the food, it was just okay. My steak had a bit more fat than I would've liked, and while it was still decent, it didn't fully meet my expectations. The drinks were on the sweeter side, which may be a plus for some, but weren't really my preference. My friends and family felt pretty similar--everyone said their food was okay, nothing bad, but nothing that really stood out. Overall, it's a cute spot with great service, but the food could definitely be better. I'd still consider going back for the vibe and maybe trying different menu items.

What a wonderful spot for you to explore…read more We wanted to take our friend out to dinner for his birthday he likes a low key style. We called a head since it was 6 of us to see if we could do a walk in or if we needed a reservation , and both options are available which is a plus. Dress attire is your choice we dressed regular nothing fancy just day to day hang out style. We were greeted kindly by the staff sat down handed a set of dominoes to play with while we waited for our food and drank some water. The place is decorated nicely and you can see the vision in mind definitely. We placed our orders and I'm not gonna lie I came in thinking the food was gonna be eh but I was blown away by the flavors. For drinks we ordered a spicy sunset, pretty young thing and cokes. The spicy sunset is a nice strong drink and is rimmed nicely with just the right amount is tajin as you drink it; it has a nice smoky after taste to it definitely was delicious. The pretty young thing was a nice citrusy drink with a little salty aftertaste, which balanced out the flavor nicely. The cokes were not water down they were good as well. For food we ordered the Cuban sandwich with parmesan fries, butter chicken wings, butter chicken macaroni and cheese, steak nachos grande, butter chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and mom's butter chicken platter. This was a wonderful Spanish and Indian style combination of flavors. Definitely my first time having this type of food and wow what a mind blowing experience. Not one person in the table complained or had anything negative to say about their food. We all tried each other's food and each bite we exchanged to try was delicious and better than the last . The Cuban was delicious but the parmesan fries stole the show from that meal it was paired so lovely who would've thought those flavors would've mixed nicely. The buttery chicken wings oh my God dripping with goodness each bite was legit finger licking good lol. The butter chicken macaroni very very delicious. Had a nice cheese pull and a good balance could not stop eating it. The steak nachos were delicious I wish It had a little more meat, but it was not bad. The butter chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries also delicious and the fries were cooked so nicely that it was crispy and soft at the same time per bite. The mom's butter chicken platter was delicious they gave the right amount of sauce, the pita bread was delicious and soft, the salad that it was paired with was good too the rice was decently portioned. Everything was definitely tasty. Not one complaint of any of the meals. We did not wait long for the food. Bathrooms were nice and clean. I want to come back to try more things in the menu that's how good the food was and our group agreed to also come back with us. This spot is definitely a place to try. They have a beautiful quote right near the bar that really spoke to us, especially during these times it said "you are exactly where you need to be." It makes you stop for a second and really take it in and just live in the moment ... especially living in New York, where you have to be always go go go fast fast fast. My husband really enjoyed his sancocho and appreciated that they don't add carrots (or potatoes), which we personally don't like in sancocho. That alone made his dish a win. My mondongo, on the other hand, was just okay. I would call it standard, but the flavor didn't quite hit for me. I didn't love the taste, and while I still ate it because we were hungry and cold, I've definitely had much better mondongo elsewhere. Being busy, overwhelmed and extreme stressed with a lot of work does not give one the prerogative to be rude, irascible, dismissive, indifference and curt in a boorish wayward behavioral manner to your customers who are spending our hard-earn money giving it to your business! If you don't speak Spanish as a patron, good luck to be serviced properly with dignity for inclusion. Linguini pasta with chicken, small $9.00 The linguini was average pasta and the chicken embedded was also average. I do not taste their food to be described as "delicious." I honestly could not consume a medium size plate as their attitude for poor customer service made me very despondent and intensely dispirited. Subsequently, I lost my appetite and food as desideratum was no longer enticing.
