Went with another couple on a Sunday. Very surprised there was only one other table dining. My husband ordered the wagyu burger and I had the grouper sandwich. We ordered a side of the "lobster mac & cheese". The burger was OK, nothing exciting claiming to be wagyu. My grouper sandwich was a very small thin piece of grouper. The worst part was the roll was a hamburger roll you would get at the supermarket. It completely fell apart by my second bite. The mac and cheese was served on a small saucer and the sauce needed a spoon to eat. There were three small slices of what appeared to be the pretend fish but definitely not lobster. When the bill came, we were charged for a full order of the mac & cheese. When we questioned our server, he apologized and said it was his fault he didn't explain that they did not serve a side dish with our order. There was nothing on the menu that stated you could not order a side. The menu clearly listed a side for $9 or a serving for $18. Talk about a bait and switch! We paid $18 for a sauce of runny mac & cheese with no lobster! So, we paid $91 for two sandwiches, two drinks and a saucer of mac & cheese. Do yourself a favor and steer clear! read more

Went to Bold for a 21st bday dinner. 5 in the party...three 21yr olds and 2 parents. They wouldn't serve the 21yr olds because they had vertical IDs. The food was average, but not worth the price. Side order of Mac and cheese which was too salty for me. Problem is if I eat to much salt it kills my meal. I should stop trying the kids food, example French fries are a no now. The building is nice and has nice outdoor seating. Live music outside in the park. The Algonquin road traffic and noise is the worst. Don't know how they would solve that problem. We have been going to Bold since it opened in 2017. As local Algonquin residents, we loved having a new place in town with modern fare and a great wine selection. Unfortunately, we have had numerous poor experiences here, and our most recent visit was our last. First, let me say that the bartenders at Bold are exceptional. We often have sat at the bar indoors and had great service. The wait staff is always friendly and accommodating. This review is not a reflection of them or their service. We have had nothing but terrible experiences with the owner, Greg. Unfortunately he is always at the door. I don't know if he is prejudiced against gay couples or just looking out for his own friends, but on multiple occasions, he has refused to seat us indoors despite there being multiple open tables and bar seats. On one occasion (pre-Covid) he claimed there were reservations indoors he was waiting to seat, so he would not accommodate us at a table. After we dined at the bar and no one showed up for table seating, he claimed multiple reservations no showed on him. On our most recent visit, he declined to seat us at the end of the bar, where there were three empty seats next to a couple. He claimed a group of three had a reservation and instead seated us in a tight corner. We stayed for three rounds and a meal, and the only person who came in was a single individual. Greg is unaccommodating, disagreeable, uninviting, and often plain rude. I am sorry to say that his lack of customer service has turned us off to Bold permanently. read more

Crazy thing is the amount we drink and cost of our drinks would be more than people ordering food & restaurants make a lot of money off alcohol sales. One of my favorite hidden gems of a restaurant located right on Main Street in Algonquin. I try to bring everyone I know here because I have not found a better place for quality steaks in the area since moving out this way. Service is always wonderful and staff is always knowledgeable and friendly. Best mouth watering steaks I've ever eaten. I highly recommend adding the black pepper Parmesan butter to your steak. So flavorful! I also enjoy the redneck surf and turf such a well plated dish and who would have known I would love grits so much! Can't go without the jalapeño Mac and cheese as a side. The restaurant is small and limited to seating but the food makes it worth it! Some of the best handmade craft cocktails I've ever had, my go to is the whiskey tango foxtrot, or the raspberry lemon drop. Even though I'm usually stuffed by the end of my visits, I never leave without a slice of the best towering carrot cake known to mankind. From the second we walked in we were greeted and welcomed right away. Waitstaff was on point and the food was even better. We asked for a table outside and instead of seating us at the 4 top, the waitress wanted to squeeze us at a 3 top putting one chair in the sidewalk. Bold American Fare never disappoints!! After a rough work week, we came for a very early dinner and were warmly greeted and had a great window seat. The mixed drinks are truly top notch. Fresh ingredients, good liquor and nicely presented. For starters we had the beer battered fries with brisket, cheese sauce, caramelized onions and jalapeños (they were awesome!) and the lions mane fried mushrooms with a Korean sauce (revelatory! We weren't familiar with this mushroom and they are delicious!!! Meaty and subtly flavored). Both apps were outstanding. For mains we had steaks. My husband had the tomahawk wagyu steak and I had the ribeye. Perfectly cooked and seasoned! Worth every penny! The sides were great as well. Highly recommend the lobster Mac and cheese, garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Our server was amazing! All in all a wonderful experience. Will definitely be back. First time visit. The ambiance is quite cozy. There are tables to sit at and also a bar area where customers were dining. There is outside seating and an upstairs outside balcony that also has tables and a bar to sit at. I believe you can also have dinner up there. Ordered (3) beers and ceviche to start. The waitress was very pleasant but seemed to be approaching our table a bit too often for an order. The ceviche was excellent. Our son was in from out of town so we were trying to get caught up with him. I realize there is no way the server could have known this however we still had the ceviche and kept getting approached to place our dinner order. At this point we started feeling rushed. There were a lot of empty tables in fact our table and two others had customers. There was no one waiting to get seated. We placed our order. My husband and I both got the mussels and noodles. Our son got a cheeseburger. Food was delicious. They are very generous with the mussels however $10.00 is charged for adding the noodles and I would be surprised if they added much more than a handful. Kind of a price gouge. However we knew it was on the pricey side before hand. Even after eating we felt the meals were well over priced especially considering the surrounding restaurants. They also serve delicious food but at a much more marketable price. After all this is Algonquin IL. We don't have a problem paying for a good meal but it has to be deserving and this little restaurant just didn't make the cut. So now the server is removing our plates. She did ask if we wanted a box for the gravy but while we were still munching on fries off our sons plate it was removed. I had to literally grab it back. We searched the hours of operation prior and the website listed open till 11:00pm. We arrived around 7:30pm and by now it was 9:30pm and aside from a gentleman eating an ice cream sunday at the bar, we were the only ones inside and truly felt pressured to pay the bill and get out of Dodge! Ya know that feeling you get when it's close to closing time and you have that one last table that won't leave? Well that's what we felt but it was 1 1/2 hours till closing time.
