Horrible service. Giving one star because I can't do zero. Waited over 40 mins and still did not get our food. 3 tables that ordered after us got their food out and we still kept waiting. One of those tables was a party of 8 people, and it was just 3 of us. Not like I had a big complicated order. I finally asked what was going on and the lady at the register said they are out of ribs... yet no one had the decency to let us know. Still waited 15 mins after that and no food. The lady seemed annoyed that I was asking about my order, and said she would just comp it... I didn't want free food, I simply wanted good service and a nice dinner. This is more a 3.5 star. I'll start out by saying this is a great addition to downtown Wylie. It might look plain on the outside but inside the ambiance is all BBQ theme. My wife and I had the sliced (not chopped) brisket, Mac and cheese, fried okra, potato salad and the sausage. The brisket was supposed to be lean but the pieces we got had a bit more fat than what we'd prefer. It was juicy and so tender it fell apart (my wife even asked if it was chopped beef but I saw the guy slice it). Very little smoke ring though. Maybe it was a bad batch that cooked too high. The bark was good if a little on the black pepper side (which is good for me and my wife but just be aware it's heavy on the black pepper). I also got the regular sausage. It had a good texture and great taste but it was spicy. Besides the brisket being so so the disappointment was the sauce. Let me say this: it seemed to be more like Carolina BBQ or Texas mopping sauce as opposed to sweet bbq. It had a vinegar apple cider base. Not that it was "bad." Folks are going to be 50/50 if they like the vinegar or the molasses based sauce. The Mac and cheese was very good and the potato salad was off the chart! I think they called it smoky salad. I could just eat that all day! The fried okra was typical flour crust (vs a corn meal crust). It was good and easy to pop in your mouth. The restaurant was clean inside and lots of tables. SO GOOD! This BBQ spot recently opened in downtown Wylie Feb 15th, 2019. They have 11 nice sized tables that seat 4-6 people each. When you come in the door, you go to the left to get to the order section of the counter. Their prices are on par with other barbecue offerings like Spring Creek or Soulman's. Unlike some other startups that charge the prices of their competitors but have food that is mediocre, BOLD BBQ PIT has very, VERY tasty BBQ and sides! I'll include a pic of the menu, but here are my opinions on the food: Chopped Beef - So awesome 5/5 Jalepeno Sausage - I'm not a sausage fan, but I tasted my wife's sausage and was impressed! Great stuff. She gives it a 5/5. Sides (General) - They give a good portion of their sides, they aren't stingy. Potato Salad - Fresh, tasty! 5/5 (Wife prefers mustard potato salad) Macaroni and cheese - Fresh, hot, delicious! 5/5 Smoked Beans - Loved them!!! Hot and awesome! 5/5 Fried Okra - 5/5 Too stuffed to eat my cookie! The BBQ sauce is on the tables (I should specify that it's in bottles, you don't have to dip your meat in a puddle on the table). They have Original flavor and Blazin' Hot. My wife and daughter had original. I went with Blazin' Hot. It had great flavor and enough heat to satisfy without sending you searching for milk! I'm all for supporting local businesses, and was excited to try a new BBQ joint in town, but I have been left unimpressed. Tried for the first time last week and got the brisket. It was dry and chewy, and the guy behind the counter could use some training on how to chop brisket. The mac and cheese was meh, and the ranch beans were uninspired, they looked like they came out of a can of VanCamps. The bbq sauce was pretty bland and lacked in boldness and flavor. I did enjoy their onion rings though. Tried again tonight and had my daughter go up before the evening rush to get their Friday special of beef ribs. The attached picture is what I got instead. That's it, a measly portion. And they weren't even beef, what we got was pork. They were decent though and you could taste the smoke, and the fried okra was good. Good BBQ has come to Wylie! I had been wanting to try this place for months and finally got the opportunity. The young ladies at the counter were very friendly and helpful especially as I couldn't decide on what I wanted so they recommended the Meat Platter. It was a perfect sampler for 6 of the 7 meats they serve. Had a really good conversation with the Pit Master/Owner and it was very obvious that he has done his homework and has worked on his craft for a long time. I will say that he baited is with a sample of peach and apple cobbler and needless to say there was peach cobbler in our to go food. Lol We also had the burnt end appetizer and brisket egg rolls, they did not disappoint. The egg rolls were definitely different fusing brisket with goat cheese. My 8 year old wasn't sure which meat he wanted and they a accommodated his need to see everything first. He's a picky eater but loved his choice. The owner came to our table and entertained my son with hidden action figures. Definitely will go back. Only thing... I wish they mentioned that the sauce the egg rolls was a habañero sauce. Decided to try out Bold BBQ after I tasted their blue cheese slaw at Taste of Wylie. Ordered the brisket egg rolls and a 1 meat plate. Waited about 10 minutes to get my food. Spent around $20. Marbled brisket was good, but lacked smokiness. Good bark. Blue cheese slaw was good. Egg rolls were OK but were not warm. I didn't get my green beans that I ordered. Living in Wylie, I really wanted this place to thrive because it wasn't some commercial "BBQ" place that has 400 chains scattered throughout TX. (Yes I am looking at you Dickeys) The best way to put it is Bold BBQ is like middle of the pack BBQ. It will never blow your socks off, but it also won't suck either. I've been here a lot. And every time I eat here I never say man that sucked, but also never call my friends to let them I had the best BBQ in my life. The brisket is good, but even their "lean" cut is still pretty fatty. So if you don't like that stay away. Ribs are good. Sausage is good. Potato salad is good. Everything is just good. I will still come by if I want some decent BBQ. read more

Walked in at dinner time (4-7pm) and the place was a ghost town. There was one other customer before me, and after my first (and last) experience with this restaurant, I wonder what he ordered as i feel this was lacking. I ordered the brisket stuffed jalapeño and the brisket chili frito pie. The staff was quite friendly. The portion was plentiful. But the brisket wasn't seasoned. It had a smoky smell but was floating in a bowl of grease. Maybe the flavor was in the grease, but after I strained the meat from the container to make my pie, I tasted the meat twice, and it really didn't have any stand out flavors or to speak-of taste. The jalapeño was ok, but again, the cream cheese (as dominant as it was) lacked any noticeable seasonings as well. If they had added seasonings to their cream cheese spread, that would help with the overall jalapeño effect. As for the brisket, remember that when you make a brisket chili, there will be a surplus of grease, and that's where any brined or marinated seasonings blend. Pickup order today was pleasant. When calling in the order, they do ask if you prefer lean or fat, chopped or sliced. A little awkward once I got there. The person at the register seemed to have a hard time deciding whether to keep serving the dine-in line or to let me pay, pickup my order and go. I didn't like the wait so pointed out what I assumed was my bag sitting there on the cart, sure enough it was. The next person in the dine-in line didn't seem to mind, so that went well. Still, a little awkward that dine-in and take out could bottleneck like that. Maybe next time I should prepay online but there was an extra charge to ordering via the google maps app. Hence why I called in. Not going to give $5 to some middle-man company if I still have to drive there and pickup the food. Brisket tastes good. It's no Lockharts, but it beats Dickies, and utterly destroys Soulmans. Nice smoke ring. Tender lean meat and never dry. Their bbq sauce today was on the sweet side, almost zero sour/acidic, so I mixed in some A1 when I got home. Sauce was perfect afterwads. They need to check their scale if they are gonna sell by the pound. I live far away but work in Wylie. My spouse and I had a late night I picked up Togo before venturing home to trenton. 1/2 bristsket was 3.6 ounces on my kitchen scale. I measured because I was so displeased with 16.99 for 4 slices of brisket. The 1/2 pound of pork was closer to 8 ounces. I don't know maybe they had a knife of the scale or something, Maybe someone just eyeballed it. Doesn't matter they won't get the chance to earn our money again. Local barbecue joints are a staple of any good Texas town, and unfortunately Wylie had been lacking for a while. We've lived here in TX for quite some time now and I have to say that Soulman's, Spring Creek, and Dickie's are "heat lamp" cheap chain "grey brisket" barbecue restaurants so they don't count. I'm talking places like Intrinsic in downtown Garland, Pecan Lodge in the Deep Ellum area, Lockhart's Smokehouse in Plano, and Rudy's up in Allen. I am upset I had not heard about this place sooner. Apparently they've catered for years as a family owned business since 2011, but only opened this restaurant in February 2019 just earlier this year. I dropped in on a Saturday to grab some BBQ to go. Their Saturday special included some delicious tender Pork Belly burnt ends (so tender a plastic fork split them as I poked them). We also got some "brisket egg rolls" which were AMAZING. I was worried the brisket might be dry and it wouldn't have that "egg roll texture" you get with normal Asian-style eggrolls... but somehow they did it right. I know they're appetizers, but think I may end up getting a bunch of those next time just by themselves as a meal. I also grabbed some banana pudding, which also was fantastic. I'm not sure what they do different, but I tasted a hint of what I can only describe as a "real-home-made-ice-cream" sort of flavor mixed in with your more recognizable standard banana pudding you normally get at many BBQ places. The other sides were pretty good. We got potato salad, some mac/cheese (meh), and some green beans (definitely not canned - tasted fresh), and a sweet tea (needs some work). The only thing keeping this place from nailing a perfect 5 star review (besides maybe a couple of the slight issues with the sides and the sweet tea quality in comparison to the stellar main menu items) is another thing that seems to plague a lot of the smaller local restaurants here... Flies. Like... I killed 2, and there were at least 3 others flying around the cashier and other staff they swatted away while working. I think I know why they're having so many, but I wish they'd attempt to fix the issue as I know it gives a vibe that this brand-new place is older and dirtier than it may actually be. Here are the main reasons I believe their fly problem seems so pronounced and how they might could fix the issue. 1. Their front door. It's old, wooden, and doesn't have a spring or hydraulic hinge. So that means whenever anyone walks in or out, if they don't manually reach back and close the door, it stays open. Guess what comes in when you do that? Adding a simple hydraulic hinge would help this a pretty good bit. It's still not great, but it's a start. 2. They don't have something like an "airlock" chamber (also called a "vestibule") that you see almost every other major restaurant (and a few of the BBQ shops I mentioned earlier in the review use to minimize this effect). They're also great for saving you money on air-conditioning as they act as an insulator to keep your cool air from rushing outside during the summer. These "airlock" style door systems are hard to do after the fact when the building is old like the one the Bold BBQ Pit set up shop in. However, it's not impossible. They don't put up "air curtains" on their doorways to the outside of the restaurant. Have you ever walked into a 7-11 in the summer? Many of them blast you with air coming down on to your head as you walk in. Most of them don't have the "vestibule" or "air-lock" yet they don't usually have any flies inside. Why? Because they have a device called an "air curtain" over the door. Get an air curtain, and put it over your front and kitchen alleyway doors and you'll see no more insects, and you'll save on your A/C bill since they help keep cool air from escaping and warm air from entering. https://youtu.be/9vnbL7VfiCA read more

We just moved to Wylie and we were excited to try Bold BBQ because of the great reviews and it's proximity to our home (less than 2 minutes from us). My family of 3 arrived at 6:45p on a Wednesday and it wasn't particularly busy. We placed an order for a Family Pack with brisket and ribs, two sides and drinks. A few other parties came in after us for dine in, some small (4 people or less) and one large party of two tables. After patiently waiting 30 minutes, we noticed other parties that arrived substantially after us were receiving their orders so we decided to go up front to ask for an update. The lead register girl was rude after my wife politely asked how much longer we could expect to wait for our order. She told us they were out of ribs yet no one had bothered to tell us when we ordered or anytime in our already 30+ minute wait. We asked for sausage instead of ribs and went back our table to wait. 15+ minutes later and we still didn't have our order. Oddly enough, other tables that arrived substantially after us still kept receiving their orders. The lead register girl rudely offered to comp us our order on her way out to deliver a to go. 10 minutes later she came back and we still had not received our order. We FINALLY decided to leave and kindly asked for a refund on our way out. Again, the lead register girl seemed annoyed at us for giving us such poor service. Zero people or customer service skills. No apology. I'm dumbfounded by her attitude given our experience and patience. We came in expecting great food and good service, but we got neither. I can't recommend this place at all. I'm a bit sad to say that given the pandemic's impact on the restaurant industry and our desire to support local businesses but our experience was truly beyond terrible!
