The bbq is pretty good, but I think this restaurant has a few kinks to work out. It's very chaotic when ordering. We've been twice, and both times the food line was run by 5-6 teenagers. They seem to step over each other and it's very unorganized. They are mostly very nice, but is chaos. I feel like an adult or supervisor needs to be there to help keep things running more smoothly. We ordered grub hub today for lunch and were impressed! The ribs fell off the bone as we picked it up, and I accidentally bit into the bone because it was cooked so well. Holy egg rolls... If I could just eat one thing for the rest of my life, I think the brisket egg rolls are the new winner! The dipping sauce is a perfect match of spicy and sweet. Absolutely delicious! The three meat plate is a steal at $12. Come with 3/4 lb of meat and 3 sides; so....much...food! I've eaten here a couple times now. The brisket is always so moist and juicy with the perfect amount of bark. The jalepeno sausage has got a good kick and is very good. The ribs are HUGE, thick, and juicy. Love them. The mac is great as well as the smoky beans. My criticism, and stretching here, would be the bread. I'm not a fan of just a plain slice of white bread. Came in this evening and to my surprise was great food. My husband and I shared 3 meat plate and 3 sides. Turkey, ham and brisket was our meats and salad, okra and smoked beans. Brisket was tender and think cut. Turkey wasn't too much of a smoke taste and ham I always love. But the prize item the smoked beans. These are a must when you go. Loved it! Will be back!! I had a Groupon for this place, because I saw it had good reviews. Went to try it yesterday, not really expecting much. Boy, was I surprised at how amazingly delicious their food is! Not only is the BBQ top notch, but the blue cheese cole slaw is a must try, as well as the unique potato salad! I need to find a recipe for it. It's now my top favorite potato salad. I think it's a German style. It's made with red potatoes. Tried this place out today and loved it! The brisket was amazing and so was the fried okra. The BBQ sauce they have on the table is absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed the spicy one. Also got the sausage platter and it was sooooo good. Finished the meal off with a cold sweet tea and it was some of the best I have tasted. My wife and I had 2 pull pork sandwiches yesterday. They were delicious! Lots and lots of meat. We will definitely return for the smoke flavor and great taste. Can't beat a sandwich, chips, and drink for $10. One thing that is very disappointing is the choice of soft drinks. I tasted the "real lemonade " and poured it out. The "sprite" was not good either. The root beer was fair. Even though it comes with the special I will pass on the drinks. My husband and I tried this place last Friday night and we were not impressed. He loves bbq so he was excited to try this place. We were sadly disappointed. I'll say right up front I am not a fan of bbq sauce or smoke but my husband is so that's why we went. I ordered the slim baked potato and turkey. What they delivered was a loaded baked potato with baked beans and diced turkey on it. Did I mention I don't like baked beans? I took 1 bite and it was disgusting. I went back to the counter and told them it wasn't what I ordered. Then they didn't even know what was on the slim potato on their menu which is not very extensive. It's only butter, sour cream, cheese and chives. Not difficult people. The 1 bite of turkey I had was soooooo smokey that I told them I didn't even want the turkey, just the potato. When I finally got it the potato was ok. My husband ordered brisket, sausage, fried okra and baked beans, all of which he normally loves. Here, not so much. He liked the sausage but the brisket was so fatty and had way too much smoke in it even for him. He also didn't like the beans or the fried okra. He rated it well below Dickeys. He barely ate half his food, threw the rest at away and then felt sick the rest of the night. We won't be back. Too bad. A True Gem Bold has some of the best BBQ this self professed BBQ snob has had! The "marbled" brisket is superb. The sausage is nice, the turkey moist, pulled pork very good and sides well crafted. I HIGHLY recommend the Brisket Eggroll. The rub is a Texas standard of Salt and Pepper, and simply good smoke. The soda found is real cane sugar soda, which is refreshing. The Banana pudding is a great touch as well. Do NOT miss this diamond in the rough of downtown Wylie. There are several BBQ joints nearby and I have tried them all and this is the best BARNONE. I have been there several times so I have a decent sample size. The food is top notch and the people are great. If you like crappy chain BBQ, this isn't for you. IMO, Rockwall Is incredibly shy of decent bbq joints. Decided to drive to Wylie to try this place for lunch. Glad we did! Walked in and noticed that today's special was 1/2 price ribs (pork). We ordered a full rack and a side of blue cheese cole slaw. Ribs were fantastic and, literally, falling off the bone. Never had blue cheese coke slaw but, that won't be my last time. Sauces (reg and spicy) were good. They have daily specials which change monthly. Today could have possibly been the last day for the ribs special. So, don't go there expecting that next week. Even though they are seriously considering extending another month. This is a family run business and they appear to cater to families. Kids from other tables were on a scavenger hunt for hidden action figures around the restaurant. Apparently, if they find all 18(?) figures, they receive a scoop of ice cream. I went this past Wednesday night with my son and was very disappointed! We knew when we walked in that we were in trouble. 6:00 PM in downtown Wylie and only one other customer was there. A grand total of four came and picked up in the hour we were there, meanwhile next door cafe was packed. Oh, and the place didn't even smell of bbq! It was strange. I'm used to being slapped in the face with smoke/bbq when I walk into a joint, and often can smell it on my clothes even after washing. The brisket egg rolls were strange. I ate maybe 1/2 of one to try to figure it out. The rest went into the trash. The young woman at the counter told me the cheese was goat cheese. Note to owner: goat cheese does not fry well! Try Gouda, queso fresco, or even jack. It made for an unpalatable experience and an odd, gummy texture. The grilled cheese with brisket was pretty decent, though it needed more sauce (maybe pickles/onions). I added a healthy amount of bbq sauce to make it less dry. Btw, the meat was juicy and yummy on its own. The bread, cheese, pan frying, and lack of sauce made it dry. My son got the three meat sandwich and enjoyed the meats. He did not like the bbq sauce at all. He had the spicy one (he loves spicy) and said it tasted rancid. The condiment area needed attention. The onions were almost dehydrated and there were hardly any pickles. The okra was yummy and the Mac n cheese was uninspired. I liked the soda selection and the sweet tea had just the right amount of sweetness. Last comment: When I told you that I wasn't happy with the egg rolls, you probably should have offered to exchange it out. If you want to build the clientele, you should make sure your customer leaves happy. In fact, if you had said "I'm sorry you didn't like the egg rolls. Would you like to try something else in its place?" I would probably try your establishment again. My husband recently got hired at the Wylie Fire Department, so we decided to get Acquainted with the town. We stopped in for dinner last night, it was pretty good. My husband got the bbq sammich meal, I got the sammich meal, and my daughter got the kids cheeseburger. We got a side of fried pickles also. Was shopping in downtown Wylie from the Jewerly store I saw grand opening. I walked across the street "into heaven" the place was cozy, the staff friendly. After a few minutes I took home some food. The brisket egg rolls are to die for. I know a brisket egg roll but the meat is just wound in the egg roll deep fried and served. Oh my god I was in heaven so much I went back that night to have my daughter and grandson try the food. Better than typical chicken places opening everywhere. Smelled good when I walked in and I was excited to get a sandwich and fried okra to go. My daughter was finishing up at the hair place a few doors down, so I didn't have time to sit and eat. I ordered my sandwich and fried okra, they immediately made the sandwich and put it in a to go container....where it sat on the counter for the next 23 minutes while I ( not so patiently) waited for the fried Okra. I've eaten Bold BBQ on several occasions. This is easily the best BBQ you'll find for miles around. Why anyone would opt for generic, bland, chain restaurant BBQ in Texas is beyond me when great local businesses like this are around. Bold BBQ has catered several work events for me as well as my own wedding. They are always top notch and very popular with everyone who has the privilege of eating their food. My personal favorites are the brisket and pulled pork. Good BBQ doesn't need sauce but their sauce is to die for! Don't forget their side dishes either...their potato salad is not like anything you've had before and their Mac and cheese is the ultimate comfort food.
