This hidden gem is right next to my my house and a friend of mine that use to work down the street from my house swears this is one of the best bbq joints in town. I will say it's not the best but there are definitely worse. It was my first time so the person behind the counter was very nice and patient and was even good at making recommendations for me. He saw i wanted a stuffed potato but i also wanted to try their ribs so he recommended a house special for 10.99 Where I got my fully loaded potato and 2 meats so I got to try their ribs and sausage, both were ok ribs weren't seasoned but they were fall of the bone and so tender sausage was something i could pick up at Kroger. Let me say that this place was better than I thought it was going to be. Walking in, I felt like a transported to a 60' s cafeteria. The atmosphere is kinda outdated, but it also had a charm. I ordered the rib and brisket dinner with fried okra and coleslaw. One thing that took me by surprise was the meat is actually moist. The ribs had a few dry spots, but overall, it was tender. The problem was the meat had no punch to its flavor. They call it a smokehouse, yet there's no strong smoke flavor. It kind of there, but it tastes more like it was baked in the oven rather than smoked. This is the same problem with Metzlers, which I find interesting. The coleslaw was quite creamy and could have used a little more vinegar. The okra was pretty good crunch wise, but okra cant hold the entire meal. The sauce they serve is pretty good, but nothing amazing. I was pleased with my meal, but I still would rather go to Hutchins or Pecan Lodge. If you really want BBQ and find yourself in the Richardson area, I guess this isnt a bad choice, but its certainly not the best. read more

I had some peach cobbler, some hot links, sliced brisket, beans and a roll. The hot links were good. I've had better, but they were much better than the brisket, which was dry and largely devoid of flavor. The BBQ sauce was decent and made the brisket acceptable. The beans were alright. The roll was stale and bland; I didn't even eat half. Peach cobbler was okay, though lacking in spices like cinnamon. What you do not get with this place is a piece of meat, blanketed in a million different spices and rubs. What you do get is the supreme flavor of smoked meat, smoked with excellent wood, producing the best flavors, the way it should be. The sauce also is another compliment. It is a tomato-based type of sauce, with both hints of sweet and spicy. You first taste it, and taste the sweetness. Then, the heat will kick in afterwards. Truly enjoyable. Sides are always homemade and compliment well. Also, this place has superior value. Their lunch specials are priced very affordable, and you get a really good amount of meat as well. Texas Smokehouse Bar-B-Que? More like Texas Shit House Overpriced Garbage. I came in for lunch, around 12:30pm. Like the damn fool I am, I was expecting fresh, hot food. Nope! I ordered the brisket, and it was not only cold, but tasted like it was leftovers from the last (presumably slow) business day. The only real upside to the Brisket is that I was given a good amount, maybe nearly a pound. There was no real quality to the brisket though, it was fatty, chewy, and overall of low quality. I felt taunted by the great quantity of such low quality meat. It was edible, I will say, but I felt I was being robbed of the joy of eating while consuming it. I ordered to go, and was informed two sides came with my meal. The "restaurant" (I use that term loosely) is set up buffet style as far as it comes to sides, think Spring Creek BBQ or basically any other BBQ place you've been to. The thug behind the counter scolded me when I tried to get extra BBQ sauce for myself, as it "already come with some". They did not allow me to serve myself my sides, instead opting for the ape to dole out their poorly made, sad accompaniments himself. I chose the Potato Salad, and Fries. You know, stuff thats really easy to do. I was playing it safe. What's really sad is when I got back to work to eat, the to-go cups of BBQ sauce were only half filled... Wow dude. Way to spit in my face. There wasn't even enough to cover all the meat. If you are like me, you want a bit of the action of the BBQ sauce with every bite of meat you get, and I didn't get that. There was maybe enough BBQ sauce to cover 1/4 of the meat I was given. If you choose not to heed my warning of this terrible, dilapidated joint, at least argue with the felons running this joint to let you have a bit more sauce. Oh, but I could not play it too safe with this shit-joint. The crinkle cut fries were mushy, cold, and lifeless. The potato salad tasted.. wrong. Way, way, WAY too much mustard was used in preparation. Do they cater to old, sick, dying people with no taste buds? Because there is no need for that amount of mustard. The consistency was that of instant potatoes, and not fluffy at all. Another failure. All in all... I wouldn't recommend this place. I went because it was close to my work, and I was hungry. I ended up at least getting full of of this, but there are much better choices for Texas-style BBQ in Richardson and surrounding areas. For 13.05 for lunch, including drink, this was a big letdown, and a waste of money.
