This was a nice local place. I liked that it was a pretty chill area, and friendly service. They make great coffee. It was a hip place, and seemed like an area of hipsters. Kind of a younger crowd, but not necessarily.. maybe just more young people then older. (18-30 crowd) A few people were older working on their computers. I got an iced dirty chai (chai with a shot of expresso). My friend got a cappuccino. And loved it. It was about $10 for 2 drinks. They had a good amount of seating, and also seating for a bigger crowd, like if you had a business meeting or something. They also had tables outside. I believe they had 2 out there, so not a ton, but it is an option. Some nice comfy chairs would have been nice, but they weren't uncomfortable either. Parking was not hard for a Saturday, which was surprising. We went around 4pm. read more

If you're a coffee shop "worker bee" like I am, this is an excellent choice! The vibe there was great for studying/doing work or just catching up with friends! Excellent coffee. Clean facility with lovely plants and natural lighting. The only thing I'd change was the music ... I could hear it through my earbuds and it wasn't quite my taste (Lofi/Indie). Stopped in for a quick mid morning snack and cup of coffee. There is plenty of parking for the business but due to it being on a busy road in Riverside, you may have to wait a few minutes to merge into traffic. Maybe try to park on a side street. The counter is a little crowded due to the close proximity to one of two exits/ entrances. Staff was friendly and attentive. I opted for a small cup of coffee (which is served in an actual cup not a paper cup - fun bonus). I also ordered a cinnamon croissant which was braided in a beautiful pattern and tasted light and airy (they will toast it if you ask). At 1030 the place was still pretty full but I found a small table to read and enjoy my snack. Coffee was strong and had a bold flavor and paired well with the croissant. Music was a little loud for my taste and led to several loud conversations. Made it hard to read but pleasant experience overall and I expect if I wasn't trying to read or had headphones I might have had a different experience. read more

Quite a mellow, cozy, little nook! Perfect for studying, business meet ups, reading, or simply to sip on freshly brews of coffee and tea. I've visited three times already... maybe four but the very first didn't count as I was yet a Yelper... or maybe it did. LOL! I love the atmosphere of the café and didn't notice their factory or the room where they grind the beans was visible to guest. LOL! (Didn't capture any photos of that... next time.) I love the fact that they create their own flavors to add to their coffees and teas. With vanilla being my favorite - I normally add it to my cold brew or chai tea latte which is my favorite served hot. It's one of my regular stops for good reason. Without hesitation, the community culture of Bold Bean brings a smile to my face. The coffee is the dopest dope I've ever smoked. This was the worst coffee Ive ever had in my entire life. My milk was sour and the leftover bean debris was a thick layer at the bottom of my cup. I had a simple hazelnut latte with whole milk. Delicious coffee, great people. That's Bold Bean. When you walk in, you're greeted with the enticing smell of freshly ground coffee beans. That's enough to keep me sitting there all day. The coffee is delicious and so are the treats! For today's visit, I got the pimento sandwich that has green tomatoes, pimento cheese, and an onion jam. Unexpectedly one of my top 5 favorite sandwiches ever. The tomato tart is awesome too, and they have it year-round so I can get my tomato fix even in the off-season. I love that the staff is super nice and helpful. It really makes all the difference, especially in a time like now where everything feels foreign and uncomfortable. Of course, it's also a place to pre plan an outing to sit and talk with new and old friends. I enjoy the light from the large windows and the old school feel in the revamped building. I also enjoy the events held at Bold Bean. Parking is somewhat tricky depending on the time of day. Bold Bean is set in-between two cool restaurants-- Foo Dog and 13 Gypsies-- and across from the former middle school John Gorrie, which was turned into condos. Be careful when getting in and out of your car because it is a neighborhood in transition but don't overreact. It's like any place.... be alert and aware and then enjoy some quality time at a quality place. * Prices are a little steep, in my opinion. read more

The coffee was better than Starbucks and the locals were part of the reason for my wanting to coffee me back. Everyone was at ease and no one stuck on having their heads down in a computer without looking up to be sociable and kind. The sale items captivated my interest. I know I'll return. Today I randomly decided to pop into Bold Bean around lunchtime for a quick latte to-go, and due to the warm, cozy environment and the friendly staff I decided to stay and sit a spell. I'm so glad that I stopped in! I ordered the 6oz latte with a bit of honey and vanilla, topped with cinnamon powder. The barista, Aubree, made it perfectly. I want her to make my drinks every time I come here! As I sat and enjoyed my scrumptious latte another barista, Ryan, was preparing some pour-over coffees at the counter in front of me. Boy did they smell amazing. He shared some information about the current blends with me and was very knowledgeable about what he was serving his customers. I love that! I finally understand the love that everyone that I know has for Bold Bean. In all the time that I've been back in Jax and have lived in Murray Hill, I haven't gone to Bold Bean. I've never been one to just go for a coffee by myself. Spending three years in Sicily, coffee has always been something to experience with someone. Anyways, I digress, I *LOVED* Bold Bean so much that I wasn't here just once this week, but twice. I'm not usually a coffee drinker, but when I do, it's something espresso based (usually a macchiato or mocha, maybe cappo). All I've had so far at Bold Bean has been macchiato. I figure why change it up when it tastes SO GOOD. I still have to add a little sugar to give it a little sweetness, but not too much. Bold Bean is also a good spot to have a meeting if you want to get outside the office or to work on a project that you may have. They have free wi-fi and a great atmosphere for getting some work done. I really like the set-up inside - lots of chairs and tables. As with other coffee shops that I've seen, they don't cram too much into their space. The baristas (can I call them that?) are awesome at keeping their cool with the, seemingly, endless rush that is coming through the doors. I already knew that Bold Bean was a great fit for Riverside, even before walking through their doors. "You don't have to be a hipster to enjoy this hip coffee shop." My daughter and I chose Bold Bean here in Riverside as our coffee date on Friday. I've heard about it for years, and have friends that are fans, I live right around the freaking corner, but have never experienced it myself. I am happy that it was everything I hoped for. The interior is clean, smells divine, and fits the neighborhood well with it's vintage, not-quite industrial styling. Daughter ordered a macchiato and I had a cappuccino. For our treat, we chose a cookie from the case next to the register (from Knead Bakery) that was very large. There wasn't a name, but I would call it a chocolate chunk cookie. LOL We sat on stools (low, thank goodness) in the window to people watch outside. (Being Stockton, it was more like almost-car-wreck watching. LOL) Coffee was done in a very reasonable amount of time. I had to force my teen NOT to scarf down the whole cookie before the coffee was ready. They called our name, and I had to make two trips because the macchiato is served with a small glass of sparkling water. (I had no idea. LOL) Both were very delicious. (I was disappointed that the only sugar I saw offered was cane sugar, but I had brought my own stevia pack with me so it wasn't an issue.) The combo of my cappuccino with the cookie was perfect, almost like they were made for each other. My daughter liked the macchiato, it tasted very good. I'm surprised that she liked it, it was stronger than both of us are used to. I think that fact is attributed to the quality of the roast. I definitely like this place and recommend it to anyone. Seriously, you could bring anyone here and feel comfortable. The people who work here are friendly and have smiling faces. Oh, and the prices? Awesome! My absolute favorite place to order coffee from! I have tried the spicy chocolate and the honey suckle latte, both were devine. The menu was a bit difficult to understand although I am not a coffee connoisseur, the gentlemen working at the cash register are always very patient and give a better description of each item. Luckily I stumbled upon their website and it also gives an explanation of each item and how it is brewed. I love the ambience at the Riverside location. It is not out of the ordinary to see an artist or musician creating something while they are enjoying their cup of coffee. The shop sources all its coffee beans from small-scale family farmers from around the world and is one of just a handful of certified organic roasters in Florida according to our cool coffee barista. They also carry mostly certified organic beans that are grown and produced without chemicals or fertilizers. But what were we most excited about? Clearly, the cookies. I would love to say that Bold Bean lived up to the expectations we had for it being such a well known coffee shop in Jacksonville. While I believe the roast of the bean is slightly too strong, I realize that is a taste many people like in their espresso. Every time I visit it is extremely busy which is awesome to see that such a small company is thriving in Riverside. However, it is always very hot when I am trying to study or have a meeting inside and I end up leaving. The atmosphere always feels a little too edgy for my taste in coffee shops and none of their coffee choices have blown me away like several other coffee shops in Riverside (Southern Roots, etc.). This location is very different than their other location. Much more hipster and the customers inside were much more the creative types - the other one seemed more young professionals. It's cool they can have two locations with two totally diff vibes. If I lived here I'd deff be going to both. Here when I want to brainstorm and get creative and the other one when I want to hunker-down and and get administrative stuff done (yawn). Great service - the young lady that took care of me was great. She walked me through the menu, offered recommendations on bags of coffee and on a snack. Had a coffee croissant and an iced latte. The latte was delicious and the croissant filled me up will lunch. Well done. My one gripe is that it was packed and there was no where to sit. I've come here many times for various reasons, whether it be studying or attending a book club meeting or meeting a friend for coffee. I usually ask the barista for a recommendation, whether it be food or drink, and they typically pick something I end up enjoying. They have many vegan alternatives as well, including a vegan brownie that looked divine. Although Bold Bean can give off the pretentious coffee snob vibe, I've never experienced it.
