Son, a Rutgers student, took us to Spice Paradise for dinner one evening. Right off Rte 18, so you see it, but hard to get to. Place was empty and a little dark, but they turned on some music and another group showed up for dinner. Started with Chicken 65 - which were chunks of boneless chicken bathed in a creamy butter like sauce - bit on the spicy side, but very tasty. We shared two orders of garlic naan and raita. Order of Hyderabad Chicken Biryani - which was very good, plenty of chicken in biryani and a hard boiled egg on the top. Paneer Tikka Tandoor and a mixed Tandoor Platter. All the entrees were good - we asked for mild, but they were like medium. Plenty of tasty sauce, balanced with the raita and the garlic naan made this a great dinner. Would have been nice for some cold water, but it was tap water at room temperature, so not very cooling. Would come again. read more

The outside appearance is not as inviting as the inside. The ambience was good for lunch meeting. The food was simply amazing! The samosa were excellent. This place caught my boyfriend and I by surprise! We stopped here after driving up to New York from Philadelphia. Best food we've had in a long time! We were driving from Philadelphia to Boston and felt hungry around NJ. After googling for a while, this seemed to be a great option. The reviews were good and the location was right next to the highway. So we decided to give it a try. The place was decent, clean, not too crowded. The menu was like any other Indian restaurant menu. Some of us ordered South Indian food like Dosa, Uthappam while others took curries with Roti. The Dosa was good, but the Uthappam was not well cooked, so avoid it if possible. The sambar and chutney that came along with it were okay, not that great. We ordered two curries - Palak Paneer and Malai Kofta - and both were delicious! Loved them with roti and rice. After the meal, we wanted to have Lassi. The lassi was served too late. Our expectation was that they would remove it from a refrigerator and serve it to us. But to our surprise, they told us that they make lassi fresh every time after the order is placed. Because it was made fresh, it tasted TOO GOOD! So a tip for you - If you plan to have lassi, order it in the beginning when you order the food or even before that. If I lived nearby (or during my next trip to NJ), I would go again to try their non-vegetarian curries and biryani! Ordered the panner biryani several times, 10/10 would recommend it. Panner is always fresh. Masalas are very fragrant and food is flavorful. This was our regular spot for few months. We used to like it a-lot. Their biryani and appetizers were good. Then not sure what changed. Last two times our experience have been pathetic. We ordered a tray of goat biryani for a party and same night it was tasting funny. Next morning it went completely bad. When we complained were told it was made to the order and super fresh and refused everything. Today we decided to give them one more chance and they sent burnt biryani. Ate here a couple times now. First time was dine in where we purchased a Groupon. The chicken binyari was kind of dry and the chicken a bit stale. More recently, last night we had takeout. Chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi, palak paneer, and chicken fried rice and a side of garlic naan. Everything was very tasty and the garlic naan though slightly burned had a nice butter flavor. The sauce for the tikka and the palak paneer was delicious. Gobi was really good too with different spices that really made it enjoyable. The three saucy dishes we ordered all came with a small side of rice. The restaurant was kind of empty on Saturday night when I went to pick up the food and I do hope they survive. Visited this restaurant on a Monday evening and upon approaching, we were greeted by such a joyful woman (the owner) who told us to take a seat wherever we would like. After seating, we were quickly given all of our plates and utensils along with glasses of water. Within five minutes, we placed our orders and the customer service was amazing! Both the owner and the server came back to check on the food, refill waters and ask if we wanted anything else. It is great to see such terrific customer service. So now the food: I was actually surprised that it tasted very delicious (we had purchased a Groupon deal for half off). We ordered the veggie noodles, gobi 65, paneer tikka masala, kadai paneer and some plain naans. The spice level was perfect but the only thing that needs some improvement was that there was a bit too much oil in the food. Also, the vegetable noodles were pretty bland and could use some more spices and flavour. Food was 3/5 and customer service was 5/5 so giving it a 4/5! First off.. I don't know how the others review this restaurant if it opened today (17th) not three days ago. Anyway, My wife, kid and I thought the food was amazingly good. Our appetizer, Veg-Samosa was excellent!! Fresh with a nice crunch on the outside, tasty and pleasant texture stuffing on the inside. Also, the condiments were very good but spicy, especially the tamarind sauce. By the way, all three of us had no problem handling the heat(spicy)for it was mild to medium. Next, we ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala for my kid which he loved and can't wait to go back lol. It comes with Basmati Rice. We ordered two Naan Breads to dip with, so good. The orange sauce was creamy, a bit spicy with chunks of red and green peppers and of course the chicken. You can't get away with using dark meat in this dish. It was ALL tender white meat. I think most places like to cut corners with this dish. For my wife, She ordered a Masala Dosa. The Rice crepe was thin, flakey and crispy. The Masala inside was creamy but lumpy with Veggies as expected, FABULOUS!! The Sambar and Coconut Chutney were amazing. The Sambar was not like having Campbell soup. They used Lentils to give the soup a nice texture. It will be the "go to" for my wife. For me, I ordered the Goat Biryani. I tell you, their is no short cuts with this chef. He used straight up Basmati and mixed it with (I believe to be) chopped Cilantro for texture which is brilliant. The Goat was flavorful and tender not overly goaty just awesome with a nice egg and onion garnish. The Restaurant itself was nice and clean. The chairs have removable cushions if desire and lighting was enough to see what you're eating. The staff were friendly and attentive but needs polishing which I'm sure with time will be proficient. So, with all that said, I Really hope "Spice Paradise" continues to give the absolute best ingredients in their cooking to our community. I'm confident with saying, they are going places. I am a fan of Indian food as well as Mediterranean foods. With my change of diet wear 90% of my consumption is vegetables this place was the right spot to dine. We had a enough food to last us for our brunch and our dinner. I had chickpeas, lintel peas, a vegetable masala spicy something, naan bread, a yogurt base sauce, and a Spicy Pickle which I did not agree with. And a small cup of rice. And with these few items as stated it was enough for a second meal. All the flavors were delicious customer service was at the ready, friendly and the lady assisting was helpful explaining the menu. I will certainly be back. The price was affordable I believe it was $7.99 I don't know because I didn't pay the bill lol but nonetheless it was definitely affordable and well worth it. read more

Ordered on DoorDash just to be called to be told I did not order enough for delivery, ok fine so I ordered more food over the phone and with a card. I was told by owner he couldn't add tip on a card and I didn't have cash. I let him know I already provided a tip through DoorDash for my original order. I call back asking what the total for the order is and the girl working tells me she has to "look it up and call me back" ok . Never calls. About an hour later the delivery driver shows up saying I still need to pay. I told him no I paid two different ways for this order and he asks me about his tip. So I'm standing there looking dumb and hand him a 10 so basically got hustled into ordering double the amount of food I wanted and tipped 50% for food I couldn't even eat. I ordered the curry goat medium and it was complete VIOLENCE!!!! I'm Jamaican I can handle heat but this was straight abusive and there was no silverware so that was annoying as we are traveling and it was 11 pm. The food would have been amazing if it wasn't so spicy. I know everyone handles heat differently but this was seriously abusive. Don't ever order delivery from here it's complete drama. Today 16th of March, after my third visit, I am taking back 4 stars, that I had given them. I ordered Egg Biryani. I came home and opened the container. It smelt so bad - none of the members of my family wanted to touch it after smelling it. They have started selling old stuff, that is fit to be thrown out. The egg in the biryani looked so rubbery and shrunk - maybe because of heating and reheating. Very very disappointing - in just a matter of two weeks. I immediately called up the restaurant. The owner explained to me that, that is how biryani smells and claimed that he uses the same masala for all the different kinds of biryani - Mutton, Chicken, Vegetable etc. etc. I am sure I will not go there again if that is the assurance that I get - this in spite of not having complaints about the other items I ordered today. The smell of today's biryani really threw me off. After writing this review I went to google reviews and I see that there are similar poor reviews/complaints about stale food from other customers as well. After debating to eat here after reading the reviews (recent ones were generally positive) I went ahead and ate there on Sunday. The food was not bad but almost every dish on the buffet was either lukewarm or completely cold. Just stumbled across this place last night on my way home from the gym. I am not super familiar with Indian food but I love curry and I love spice. I'm still learning different dishes but I have to say out of all the Indian food I have ordered this was by far the best. Ordered samosas (my favorite) tandoori chicken (omg amazing) and tikka masala chicken. All the flavors were delicious and not so overpowering I can't wait to go back again and try something new. Food took a little long but the staff explained to me tandoori chicken takes a little longer to make, I also ordered at 930 at night so I was grateful they accommodated me so late. Very nice staff. Also excited to try it when indoor dining opens again because it has a very cute indoor seating area. Portions were also a nice size, prices were definitely appropriate. I have tried multiple dishes from them and have been pleasantly surprised at the quality and the taste. Excellent Biryani and goat dishes. If you buy two entrees or Biryani you get a chicken or vegetarian appetizer free. I got chili Chicken, which was very tasty. Food is fast. Meat in Lamb Vindaloo is dry, hard to chew, like mutton instead of lamb.

This review is only for their weekend buffet. Food was cold as if they got it out if freezer and didn't care to heat. noodles was cold. biryani was cold. veg and non veg items were not separate on table. corn 65 was salty and cold. naans were saggy and cold. pakoras were only item that was good. this food made me sick in evening. read more

We came here on a weekend and we're so disappointed. The chaat was awful. We tried 2 kinds and both were not tasty at all. The lo mein is loaded with black pepper. The service is weird and slow. It took us asking for water Atleast 3 times before we could get some and food came out one at a time rather than altogether which is strange bc one person starts eating and is done and the other peoples food isn't ready. In all fairness I can't give it one star, because the Biriyani and Dosa are really very good. The masala dishes (butter paneer and chicken tikka masala) aren't good at all. The change in staff is a clear change in service quality, the previous staff were great. The change to a less experienced chef doesn't help either. Hope they make a change soon otherwise I see the Restuarant not lasting too long. read more
