Had a great experience here. Lots options for food. Spent $45 without drinks though. Everything tasted really good. My potatoes needed a few more minutes but tasted good. Waitress never asked me how my food was otherwise I would have told her. Before I write this, this is a much different review I've never left before. Yesterday, I graduated college from OU, and had went to 5 different restaurants in Rochester trying to find somewhere to eat with no luck they were all closed until 4pm. Then I stumbled across this place and we went in. About 5 minutes later, my family started arguing and completely embarrassed me, then they got up and left, me being forced to. They were supposed to buy me a nice graduation lunch, but that didn't happen that day. Instead, after I left, I went back to my boyfriends car in the parking garage. Then we found out that we happened to find that our ticket into the garage fell out of my coat pocket. Then we find out we're trapped in the garage, with no money on us to get out and pay the $10 fee. So I took my heels off, and burst out running and crying my eyes out around town looking for it on the street. I went into each place we tried to eat at before, looked under every table and seat, and no luck. Then, I remembered the last place we went to was Bologna. That's where I met the chef/cook who when we first were there, offered to take steaks out to cook for us which arent usually offered at brunch. This man saw me in distress and bawling my eyes out panicking. He asked me what was going on, and ended up handing me $10 to get out of the garage since I was stuck. With 42 cents in my boyfriends bank account, and no wallet on me, this man saved the day. He went out of his way to be compassionate and kind, and even though I was so upset when I got home, I just kept thinking of how grateful I was and am for his heart and care for others. I've never had someone do such an act of kindness for me in my life. He shook my hand, and I hugged him and thanked him so much, but I couldn't just have that be it. That's what this review is for. To thank him for being a good person in a world where that's becoming hard to find. I promised him that I would be back sometime for a filet, and he told me they chop their steaks in house and have wonderful filet mignon. I cannot thank him enough and I wish I had gotten his name. Very disappointing experience this past Tuesday evening. I will start by saying the restaurant was quite busy for a weeknight and understaffed (2 servers for the whole restaurant and no bartender). We sat at the bar and started with a drink. Given there was no bartender service was slow and spotty. We placed an order for entrees, and this is really where my issues lie. The worst perch I have had. The preparation was good - lemon, capers, artichokes, all good. The actually quality of the perch was awful. Really large, thick pieces of perch, which translated to tough, chewy, and full of bones. My husband ordered a salmon special. Salmon was fine - although the description said pecan encrusted, the pecans just layer on top. Lastly - when we were there some of the beer taps ran out, leaving them with only 2 (out of 8 taps) draft beers - really unacceptable. Why weren't the kegs of the next beers there and ready to be tapped. Besides the food, the service was just really bad. Again, I do think the restaurant was understaffed, but it left me with an even more sour taste in my mouth after dinner. This was probably my 5th time to Bologna. By far my worst experience. This experience turned me off so much I don't see a reason to return. read more

This is by far our favorite restaurant. The intimate setting is perfect. Chef Mark is a master at everything he creates. The specials are excellent every time we have them, as well as the regular meal. Our waitress Rosie, is fabulous. Very attentive and responsive every time we are there. I grew up eating at Joe Bologna's in Sterling Heights. This slightly smaller menu seems more upscale and tastes equally, If not more delicious. Authentic Italian, always leaving with leftovers just like a home style meal. I come back anytime I'm in Rochester or craving solid Italian. read more

Stumbled upon this cozy restaurant by luck (or by the Italian Flag on the side of the building). Friendly staff and charming owner who stopped by our table for a visit. We ordered the Ravioli di Polonia as an appetizer and we were not disappointed. My husband has never tried perogies, and was very happy with our choice. The server recommended the Casalinga as an entree, which we both had. From the meatballs to the perfectly prepared pasta, it was an amazing dinner! read more

We heard so many great things about this very small restaurant and wanted to try it. Years ago, we were fans of Joe Bologna's on Wattles and Dequindre, in Sterling Heights. The man who sat us, and refilled our water glasses was very unfriendly - busboy? owner? IDK. This restaurant has a small bar, and obviously they were all regulars, this gave off a cliquey vibe to the atmosphere. Our waitress was adorable, and extremely nice. Service was extremely slow, but yea we get it, restaurants all over are short staffed. The house made bread was very good. We ordered the Calimari appetizer, which had a little kick to it, and it was delicious. I ordered the lasagne, which was good, but not the best I ever had. Hubs ordered baked pasta with meatballs, and said it was good. Food was tasty, but not out of this world wonderful, just what you would expect at an Italian restaurant. For what it was, I thought very pricey. Next time, we will head off to Picano's. read more

Last night I had dinner here with a couple friends. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. Not too loud, but you can still carry on a conversation with your table. The drinks were a little expensive and not very big. I ordered the Alfredo with shrimp and it was very good, but a little pricey. We were also interested in having dinner here because other yelp reviews said how the manager is very generous and accommodating. Although we didn't get a chance to speak with him, we were approached by another man who was very nice and offered my friend a sample of a drink. I would come eat here again. read more

I've twice gotten carry out from here and both times they didn't include plastic wear. I even specifically reminded them the second time. I understand that it's not a big deal, but when I'm excited for carbonara on my way to work and then can't eat it, it's just bummer. It also shows the attention they pay. Everything about this experience was exactly what I want when I dine out! The service was precise, succinct and friendly. The atmosphere was pleasant and even though the place was full, we weren't crowded. Wine, beer and craft cocktail menu was extensive and offered plenty of choice. But the foooood.... Every bite reminded me of how mediocre most restaurants are anymore because this place was incredible. Fresh, hearty, authentic, better than homemade! The Caesar dressing was a notch above perfect. Soups were rich and delicious. Our entrées were better than any other Italian I've had in Metro Detroit. Truly. That. Good. Tiramisu made in house was divine and the Limoncello mascarpone cake (imported from Italy) was.... eh, I'm out of adjectives. Amazing. You'll love it, I'm sure. read more

I was a little hesitant to try this place after reading a couple of the reviews but I'm glad I didn't let them change my mind. We tried this place today for lunch and it was delicious. Our server was the perfect combination of friendly and attentive. We had great and genuine conversation. We were a table of four and that caused us no issues. Now, on to my favorite part...the food! The bread they provide along with the oil to dip in was awesome! The bread was hot and had a great crunch to the crust but was super soft on the inside. Easy to pull apart! We tried the Luna Bruschetta and it was served on crostini. It was a great change from the "normal" bruschetta served at most restaurants. The caramelized onions really kicked this dish up a notch. The four dishes ordered were the butternut squash ravioli, Michigan mac and cheese, carbonara, and Jo Jo's pizza with sausage added. The ravioli was really good. It was sweet and paired really well with the sauce. The mac and cheese was also good, for me it would have been even better if there was garlic infused with the sauce, but I'm a garlic fanatic! The carbonara was so great! The noodles were perfectly cooked and I loved the yolk on top that you mixed into the pasta. The peas were sweet and tasted great with the salty pancetta and sauce. I did not try a bite of the pizza but I wish I would have! My dad thought it was great though! He had no complaints. Overall we had a great lunch at Bologna and we will be going back. Don't let the other reviews discourage you. It is a brand new restaurant and I'm sure has some kinks to work out with its waitstaff. I've heard it has been pretty busy! read more

Half of the reviews on here are simply ridiculous and irrational. Really? You're going to complain about not finding parking or the architecture/ layout of the building not conforming to your "superior" taste?? Let's hear something about the quality of the food and or service... I've been to this place quite a few times and I can tell all of you, the service is second to none, the servers here really care about their customers; the food is made with passion. We ate here for the first time last night. Service was great, we sat up front and the bartender served us. We had the scallop appetizer which was really cooked perfectly. Crisp on the outside tender centers. The soup, and very fresh homemade bread and dipping sauce were delicious. We also ordered hard to make cocktails that are not usual, and the bartender nailed it. The pasta was cooked perfect. I had the carbonara, it was really good. When we first arrived we were seated in the back at a table that was wedged in the middle of the aisle. I'm glad we moved up front. If I had one criticism it would be not to seat anyone there. It's a small inside and can get crowded but it's worth the wait. The food was exceptional. First time here it was pretty good but small menu. The bread with dipping sauce was good. Italian wedding soup was a little bland. Entrees were excellent but very cheese laden, we ordered the White Vegetable Lasagna and some sort of pasta with sausage and meatballs. In my opinion, I would skip the desserts. The Pumpkin Creme Brûlée wasn't set and wasn't that great, the Cannolis had a strange super thick filling. The Spumoni was excellent but you can't mess that up. Very impressed! The design is very modern and welcoming- we enjoyed a drink at the bar before our table was ready, it was perfectly made. After making our way to the table we chose a bottle from the wine cellar (delicious) and calamari (love when it comes with banana peppers, perfect crisp on the outside). For entrees we had casalinga (beautiful sauce, so much cheese) and the carbonara (served with raw egg yolk- yesssss). Didn't even finish our entrees and we were too full for dessert. Very cute restaurant and we had high hopes. Being tired of the typical places in Rochester and wanting to try something new we gave Bologna a go. We won't be back. We started with the scallops, which were decent. My husband ordered the Mediterranean salmon and I had the carbonara. His salmon was horrible, dry and fishy. Overcooked and dry risotto. I don't know what was supposed to be the Mediterranean flavors. At $28, it was an expensive mess. I had the carbonara, which was better, but not something I will need to come back and order again.
