Not impressed so far. Sent my shotgun in for warranty repair. Turn around time was quoted to me as 2-3 weeks. It's now been three weeks and I understand that they have not even opened the shipping box. In the meantime, my quail season slips away. I now understand that walk in repairs have priority. Took my Beretta 92 in to this place years ago to have the accuracy checked. I got it back with nothing done but the sights replaced. This was a new gun! I took the gun home (they kept my "old" sights). When putting the gun away that night I noticed the night sights were not illuminated in the darkened room. This place removed my new sights and replaced them with junk sights. I returned and demanded my sights be reinstalled. They seem OK but I will never know if they are really my new sights. I payed $100+ for nothing! Don't do business here..This still angers me after many years---This owner should be a Used Car Dealer! read more

My wife inherited a High Standard .22 cal semi-auto from her father. The gun shot well except the trigger did not return to the forward position from the trigger reset. I took the gun to Bolsa back in 2002 to have the trigger reset repaired. Without any real examination, they said they would clean the gun and replace the springs. After the repair, I took it to the range and the problem still existed. I returned to Bolsa Gunsmithing and they charged me for another "repair". After their work, I shot it at the range and it still did not function properly. At this point, I refuse to pay for another "repair" since I did not get a functional gun after the first two "repairs". It is now 2011. The cost of the repairs have now exceeded the value of the gun itself. When people ask me if I know any gunsmiths, I tell them that I do not know any good ones yet, but they should definitely stay away from Bolsa Gunsmithing. read more

These guys were great! I was treated promptly when walking in the door and was helped out with a rifle I already owned. David took the time to explain to me what was going on with it and the history on it. Didn't charge me anything and were very hospitable. So many gun stores seem to make you feel like you are an idiot and they know everything to a point of making you uncomfortable. I have over 40 years of training btw, so it's not like I'm a beginner walking in. These guys treat you like an equal, explain things to you from square one, but without belittling you. Couldn't have been a nicer guy......I used to go to a local gun shop for work but they were not nearly as friendly as all the staff at Bolsa....I actually have to drive 80 miles to get to the shop and schedule gun work between trips to Angel stadium during baseball season...I have used them for post season gun cleanings / minor modifications / and new gun sales...In my opinion, can't beat their knowledge and service read more

We have had Bolsa work on many of our guns and they consistently amaze us with quality of workmanship and timing. They always exceed their stated completion date. Brought in my SA EMP as front sight came loose and they fixed it quickly so no downtime in shooting. We have had trigger work on S&W 686 SSR, spring work, removal of pins from stock plus more. Don't risk ruining your gun, come here. It may be a wait, but better than trying to fix others mistakes. read more

Beretta 686 sent in for service May of 16. Replaced firing pins and other parts. Dec 16 gun started jumping level over on first shot so second barrel not firing. Sent in Jan 17, BOLSA found retainer nut came off and was moving around in mech. "Spring return came off" . Similar problem Feb 17, Bolsa couldn't find problem but installed a "mechanical" trigger switch. April 17 same type problem if upper barrel fired first lower barrel will not fire. AT this point conclusion is something happened when the firing pin retainer was bouncing around in the mech. This is a Beretta and such problems are unusual. I ship to BOLSA as they are supposedly blessed by Beretta and there are no Beretta gunsmiths in the PHX area. BOLSA paid freight both ways and put in mechanical switch at no cost but gun still starts malfunction. I am out about $475 and gun malfunctions. Now I may send back East and be out what ever they charge. So I'll be out $1,000 and hope gun will work. If you are sending a Beretta in for service I'd suggest some place else even if it on the East Coast. read more

Like others, I had good previous experiences with Bolsa, first with the warranty repair of rifle and later with the online purchase of a rifle advertised through GunsAmerica. Because of this, I took a chance and special ordered a second rifle from them, to be delivered to an FFL agent close to my home in northern California. Prior to actually placing the order, I was given assurances that if anything was wrong with the order, the problem would be corrected. When the rifle arrived, I noticed a shinny knot on the cheek piece. I called Bolsa and was told to send the rifle back to them, and they would replace the stock, if necessary. I sent the rifle back, and about three-weeks later I called and was told that the knot in the stock was merely a "fiddle" in the wood and that they didn't consider it a defect. Therefore, they would not replace the stock---nor would they exchange the rifle for another one. Instead, they returned the defective rifle too me. My contention is that Bolsa had a reasonable obligation to repair the rifle, replace it, or return my money, an obligation the Company failed to meet. Certainly this would have been common practice with other more reputable online dealers. You might keep this experience in mind before you special order anything from this company, especially if the item you're ordering is something expensive! read more

Dropped off my daughter's new Savage .22 BTVLS to have them drill and tap for some aperture sights I sourced from Brownells. The 2.5 week turn around was a bit of a drag, but the price seemed relatively fair. Knocked off a star because the front globe sight shot loose the first time out (no loc-tite) Front of the store staff was courteous and quick to assist on both the drop off and the pick up. read more

I took my new M1A there several years back because the brass was not ejecting. I was new to the M1A and learned later from a forum that all I needed to to clean out the carbon buildup from my gas cylinder. These guys took in the rifle and ended up ordering a whole new gas cylinder from Springfield Armory and installed it instead of just cleaning out the gas cylinder with a brush. I spent $250 there for something I could have done at home in 20 mins. Live and learn. read more

i had a couple mauser 98's rebarelled and drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Other than the fact that it took a absorbent amount of time, it was very expensive and they installed too short of screw, where only 2 threads held on the scope base. When i took them out to shoot it, the base shot loose, and when i went down there to get a replacement screw, he charged me for it. Took in my S&W for extractor problems. Bolsa charged me $55. They kept the gun for over a month. Then they cleaned the gun, told me I use too much oil, and that I don't hold the gun properly. I hold it the same as I hold my XD, and my 1911. They don't have extractor problems. If they didn't want to do the work they should have just said so. I hate being ripped off. read more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced, not to mention my gun didn't work. Short story... I was mis-led, lied to, and had the manager (some young kid) visibly shaking in anger as he raised his voice at me in the store. The work they we're supposed to do wasn't completed and what was done didn't work. Ruined my pheasant hunt. Long story if you want... Had my wife bring the gun by & they told her 200 for new barrel extension and bluing. They said they had the part in stock & it would take 4 weeks cuz the bluing process is only done once a month. I took the gun to a friend (gunsmith in garage) and he said, though he hears alot of complains about Bolsa, go with it as he couldn't get that part. I called Bolsa, confirmed everything, than dropped it off. Re-confirmed everything and the kid helping me confirmed it with the owner. Good to go. After 4 weekes, I call & I'm told the part had to be ordered from Browning (I was told by my friend that was a lie as he tried to do that. It's a 1922). and they didn't know when they would get the part. After 6 weeks I call and I'm told they just got the part and they would be working on it ASAP. I ask if it would be done that day, and I'm told that bluing takes alot of time, so he doubts it will get done. I called the next day and a different person firmly tell me that bluing is an "arguess process" and takes time!!! The gun isn't done, we'll call you!!! Next day I get the call and go get my gun. It wasn't blued... When I ask the one kid, he tells me it didnt need to be blued, and that he told me when I dropped the gun off it was only "if necessary". When I questioned him about the phone calls and how they told me bluing takes time, he just said "I don't know about that, it didn't need to be blued. Than the manager (some tall kid) comes over with a firm raised voice and told me the same stuff as the other guy. When I asked him about the phone call and the "aguess process" he looked at the 3rd guy who said "that might have been me, sounds like something I would say", but that exclaimed he just didn't know. So the manager at this point is shaking and asking me "well, what are you gonna do". So, I took a deep breath, asked him to calm down and to not raise his voice at me, and to give me a few minutes to think about it. Knowing they weren't going to blue it for me and I could just run out the door with my gun, I paid them and left disgusted. It got worse when I went hunting the next weeked and the shells were jamming in the extension the installed. So I had to take it back to my gunsmith (friend in garage) and pay him another 100 to have it reemed out and honned. All better. Bolsa gunsmithing sucks!!! read more

I have taken one rifle to them for repair it cost me $95.00 and three days and all they did was test fire the weapon and said it was fine. Took it to the range today and it started jamming on the third round. Called and was informed that they only warranty the work for three months. So if you have something repaired take it straight to the range to make sure it works. NEVER WASTE MY MONEY AT THIS PLACE AGAIN AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU. read more

Their service is OK, I've done stuff with them in the past but I have a problem with the cavalier attitude with which they treat personal information. I picked up my gun yesterday. I had my initial copy of the receipt on the table and picked it up. Dude at the counter yanked it out of my hand, balled it, and threw it in the regular trash! Hello, that has my serial number, phone, and address on it! People I don't recommend you leave any personally identifiable information with these guys as they can care less about protecting your personal information. I'm almost certain if I went through their trash I could find people's gun information and addresses! the worst gunsmithing shop ever. I have had two experiences with this place and both were horrible, there attention to detail and gunsmithing skills are lacking. my first experience was brought my rifle in for a saftey check when I recieved it back the whole rifle was covered in rust..thanks after complaining about it they said that they would have to reblue the rifle at my expense. the second time I went in there was to get a mid bead installed on my remington 1100 shot gun, first thing the guy behind the counter did was drop my shotgun and laugh about it..I was pissed, but let it go as an accedent. when I recieved it back the bead was drilled and tapped crooked, so the bead was actually sitting sideways in the barrel rib off to the right and the top of the rib where the bead was installed was all scratched. After complaining about the crooked bead they had there top gunsmith take it in the back.. and his fix for it was filing on the side of the bead making it smaller so it looked strait...it still wasn't staight, and the top of the rib was scratched even more.. there fix for that was cold blue that looked awful. I told them that it was not up to my expectations and I wanted a new bead installed and they thought it looked fine and refused to fix it anymore.i told them i wanted a new barrel and they refused...what. I ended up buying a new barrel for that shotgun because of that. the barrel that they had ruined was priceless and no longer available..thanks alot...worst gunsmith ever. read more

Had an unfortunate incident with my Beretta AL390 resulting in a broken stock bolt tube and sent my shotgun to Bolsa last fall (around Sept 2011) as it is an authorized Beretta gunsmith shop. Great turn around time and phone call follow up. Here's the problem though. Got a call from the gunsmith asking if the stock I sent was original because he couldn't get it to fit. Then got a call saying he got it to fit. Got the gun back, and the stock was all dinged up. To be fair, it could have happened in shipping but it was bubble wrapped so I don't think that was the case. So why the review 9 months later you ask. Since I got the gun back every 300 to 500 rounds the stock was coming loose. I tightened it down and the stock cracked. Initially I thought it was my fault, but a few weeks ago I was tightening the stock down yet again and I noticed Bolsa had put in a 65mm/50mm stock spacer with the 55mm/60mm stock shim. Ordered the right spacer and a new stock from another company, shot about 400 rounds, and no more loose stock problem. Simple job gone wrong and cost me a nice stock and $$$$ for a replacement stock. read more

I have been to this shop a handful of times. Previous times they did what I asked. This last time not so much. It might be just the guy who "tired" to help. Don't have his name, wish I did, but he's about 6 feet tall with dirty blonde hair, spiked in the front and a standard beer belly. He was terrible. Wouldn't listen to me when I dropped the gun off. I was clear I wanted the whole thing cleaned, I said make it "brand new." Mentioned the firing pin was acting funny. Showed him where on my benelli super nova where the pump action gets stuck. I wanted him to make the action smoother. He turned his back on me 3 times in the 5 minutes I was telling him about my gun, very unprofessional and rude. I wouldn't be able to do that at my job and get away with it... I get my gun back and the only thing done was, they put grease in my firing which I know how to do. So only one of three thjngs got done. Problem was I pointed out the directions I wanted were not followed. Told him I wanted the whole gun cleaned and brought up how last time I had him even go grab the gum himself and feel where it gets stuck. He told me I NEVER said anything about the cleaning part and thinks I'm lying. Then I'm charge 120 bucks for gease in my firing pin, which probably took them maybe 3 to 5 minutes of labor (I've done it) so now I have to clean my own gun that was originally turned into be cleaned... Ive never written a review on any store before so how pissed off do think someone has to be to go out of their way to write this. So between terrible costumer service on back to back occasions, a lack of interest in what I requested to be, over pricing on "labor" I promise you I won't be going nor any of my buddies that have trouble with their firearms, end of story. read more
