Amazing donuts, but as a place with a local cafe known for their delicious breakfast pastries you'd think they would open before 9.

I used to stop in frequently when my route took me this way home. I would pick up the makings for dinner or deli for next day's lunch. Was back recently when I was in the neighborhood and saw that they've installed Gerardo's Bakery in the back. I zoomed over and got a box of goodies. It's a winner. Bolton Orchards is a nice little market and a very popular destination on the weekends. I don't buy my apple cider here, so can't speak to it. However I have found that the taste of the cider that my local orchard produces varies from year to year, and even from week to week. read more

They carry may great organic and locally produced items so it's great for picking up some groceries as well. Everyone in the store is very nice and helpful. I drive out of my way to come here. They have a deli that makes delicious, generously portioned sandwiches that are made to order. I can't get enough of their potato salad! They have a wonderful range of fresh produce and bakery items. The deli also sells top quality meats and cheeses. The people that work here are extremely friendly and even though there is usually a long line at lunchtime for sandwiches, they are very efficient. They also sell basic grocery items and have a small frozen food section. They sell their own brand of jams, jellies, salsa, and BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauces are amazing. read more

Worst customer service EVER!!!! Wake up and start putting customers first. You don't let a customer in the store, let them shop, make no final announcement to check out because you are closing registers then you take the items from a customers hand and walk them out after they drove 45 minutes to get to you !!! Unacceptable! You should of locked your doors and not let anyone in if your going to lock everything up at the exact Nano second of your closing time while customers are making final selections. For decades I have enjoyed visiting this store and seeing its additions like ice cream, bulk bins, and a deli. Parking has expanded to keep up with the larger store. The selection is good. For instance, they have a greater variety of merchandise than the store at the Johnny Appleseed rest area off Route 2. Prices are high, but no more so than any other upscale niche store. This is a great place for specialty items like golden russet cider and maple sugar candy. The store is socially responsible. I read some years back that they hire inmates from the nearby girls' reform school, and they also do not discriminate on the basis of age. Service is prompt as they keep enough registers open so you don't have to wait in line. They ask if you want a bag instead of assuming you do and use paper not plastic. The one disadvantage is the congestion on Route 117. Exit onto 110 and catch the light. It's easier than pulling into the traffic barreling down the hill from downtown Bolton. read more

I would like to second what others have mentioned regarding rudeness of the sales associates here. Aside from one particular check out clerk who is mildly physically challenged but provides stellar service (& always with a smile), most of the other workers employed here are extremely unfriendly and certainly do not go out of their way to greet customers or make them feel welcome. To clarify, I shop here once a week, sometimes more often, to purchase fresh fruits & vegetables, deli items, bread & cider donuts, and whatever else I need or that happens to strike my fancy. The other morning, the nasty, middle aged deli clerk who waited on me treated me as an intrusion, rushing me through my order so she could get back to chatting with an older male clerk. I then stood for five minutes (I timed it, in case you think I'm exaggerating) after greeting the woman at Gerardo's Bakery, who acknowledged my greeting with a grunt then proceeded on with whatever paperwork she was fiddling with, as she remained seated along a rear counter -- with her back to me -- the entire time I stood there waiting to purchase pastries. I finally walked away, shaking my head. As I continued to place items into my cart, I decided to buy a coffee; my order was taken by a woman who could not have been less friendly: no greeting, no smile, no thank you, and I instantly regretted spending my hard earned money. This woman is there most times when I've been there and she looks and acts absolutely miserable. Bolton Orchards management needs to stop taking their customers so much for granted. Do not assume you will continue to receive our business and our money without you applying a minimum of effort to respectable customer service. A simple friendly face in that sea of miserable, begrudgingly helpful pool of annoyed and pissed off employees would be like a ray of sunshine. A little goes a long way. read more

Cute yet expensive. You can do a decent amount of grocery shopping here but it's really better if you only need to grab a few things for a special dinner or picnic. There are some unique and local options which is nice. I love the seasonal stuff. When it's Summer, I want to see it when I'm shopping, when it's Fall, I want to smell it, etc. It's a nice local place to grab some coffee, a doughnut, or ice cream. read more

Stopped in for an ice cream yesterday. I was first dissapointed because even though they had a sign prominantly posted about handmade ice cream sandwiches they didn't actually have any made. Yum! We made a stop here on our way out of town because my mom had to bring some apples home. I wasn't in the market for apples so I checked out the other parts of the store. We got some maple candies, maple fudge, pistachio fudge and an amazing mug of apple cider - seriously fabulous as all the rest of the mugs I've had since are just NOT cutting it. I visited this place few weeks back to meet a friend and have a coffee. Getting coffee was the first sight of how the rest of this place will treat you as a customer! I politely asked what kind of coffee they serve and if they have low acidity kind. I got quick and rude reply that I can see what they are serving and they have only regular and decaf! Mind it, there was NO LINE, NO CUSTOMERS BEHIND and obviously I was really bothering them with my questions! Shortly after that I went to used their restroom that is located behind the store, is in extremely poor sanitary condition and has no AC! It was 90 degrees outside that day!!!!!! I was not happy to even have to step in there to use it but there's not much choice there. To my complete shock after I was done and ready to come out, my lock would not unlock and I was trapped in that stingy, dirty bathroom! As the place is outside you can simply imagine how fast it gets hot there especially as the room itself is so small and confining! Finally after 24 minutes of being locked up there. Trying to call for help and bang on the door someone had came to use the bathroom and found me there. Truthfully I was on the verge of passing out! Both from the stress and from the heat inside! Finally they called a manager who could NOT unlock the lock from outside either. He did not even ask if I was OK!!!!! He returned with the crawl bar and had to break the lock to get me out of this place. Strangers had ask me if I was OK or needed to sit or water!!!!!! Manager told me he was very sorry and simply run away! Didn't even try to resolve or make up for this awful incident in any kind of way or ask if I would like a water! I am writing it because I like to know whom I am doing business with (and I have spend $$$ at Gerardo's bakery section quite often there) and how are they treating their clients!? This was as POOR and SAD as you can get!!!!!! Not to mention that this has happen before as one of their customers told me and she couldn't believe they still did not fix this issue!!!! When I was a kid, we would always beg my mom to stop there just so we could have a cup of cider for a nickel. Guess what? You can still get a cup of cider for a nickel. It has grown a lot over the years from a pretty basic farm stand where you could also get a hot donut freshly made by the Lions Club on Sundays to a farm stand/gourmet food shop/sandwich place/Italian bakery. Im updating my Bolton Orchards review a bit. They have added a great coffee bar and I have noticed a few better products. They have GREAT apples and apple cider, cider donuts and some days, pretty cool lunches. I'd like to see some nicer cooler salads and sandwich varieties and their produce area still stinks. They have the BEST Ice Cream from Bliss by container and I go also for Annie's Gluten Free!!! There is one really nice manager there and the owner has always donated to organizations. I hope they continue to improve because it has potential!! We need some hipper cooler places out here to hang and spend our cash. read more

Love this place for lunch. They make sandwiched to order and I can watch them slice the Boars Head meat while I wait for them to make it!! How fresh is that??!! They also have a huge variety for snacks to go with your sandwich, not to mention the full deli of meats and fruits and veggies galore!! AND now they have just opened a counter in the back from Gerardo's Italian Bakery!! Cakes, pastries, cookies, pizza... This place has everything and anything you could want or need... A very good place. For the local families, it is a source of entertainment watching the newly arrived arrive here and also out-of-towners. Some things are pricey, some are reasonable. They do carry local milk at a very reasonable price. It is the very next best to fresh from the milking, for those, such as myself, who have hand-milked a cow and kine have experienced. You'll find some nice things here. Avoid the weekends like the plague, though. Jammed to the eaves with out-of-towners with all the time in the world, and they demand all the space and time and attention. I have to say after 20 years, Bolton Orchards has let me down .The best cider I have ever had is the Cider Mill,Waterbury ,VT .However if you don't want to drive 3 1/2 hours Bolton was the place to go.Until last Sat 9/11 .Unfortunately I bought 2 gals of their cider ughh it was like drinking flavored water ,this ,I think Mott's Apple juice would knock Bolton out of the park.There is still hope if you are in Harvard ,it's Carlson,s near the center they have a shed where they use the honor system buy your cider or whatever and just leave a check..They have sparkling cider too.No Bolton has been a destination for years selling way overpriced fruits ,pies ,jellies and groceries .Their fame comes from there not being a supermarket within miles ,and they know it ,they are the only game around .Certainly the store has charm ,but when you pay $5 for cider you shouldnt get colored semi sweet water.Bolton you need to get your act together ,you blew it !!! read more

This is might be the worse cider I have ever had. UV pasteurized, filtered, and flavorless, with added preservatives that give it a plastic taste. Appreciate this place as it is very convenient if you live nearby. Great apples in season, and produce like tomatoes and corn. Prices a little on the high side. Nice deli and coffee. Right off the bat, the bathroom was disgusting. I guess when we went there the bathrooms were being renovated, because they had customers going in a portable $_ _ t-house out back that both men and women used. I hope that they fix that before somebody catches typhoid or something. Aside from that, I love what this store represents and what it does. Too many box stores and chainstores have pushed out moms and pops small businesses everywhere, so seeing a local store with locally made products in it doing so well was wonderful to see. It makes you want to try everything and promote small businesses or boycott corporate chains. I picked up some grassfed local beef, local apples, and bread there. I did my part in repatriating American small businesses by shopping there. Needless to say, I was not disappointed in the least. The quality of meats, cheeses, and produce was fantastic. Today I stopped here on a bike ride for a snack. I got a raspberry bar. It was $1.89 and it was fake. I should have read the ingredients cause fruit filling came after salt. I hate it when something looks cosmetically appealing, yet is a fake. How much would it cost to use real raspberries? I guess too much. I've had doughnuts from here that I've enjoyed. Went there the other day to pick up some fresh veggies. They tout that they have their own corn, but it was ice cold out of the fridge. The peppers looked like they were from the grocery store and the lettuce was from Canada. The staff that work here are great; the owner's daughter , however is awful to deal with! So if you go in and just make a purchase, I am sure you will like the place. If you have any issues at all and need to talk to management, expect to be treated very rudely!
