Ordered delivery. The pakoras were so hard and overcooked they were inedible. Vegetable samosas and papri chaat were bland, just gross. The curries were the only thing we actually ate just because we were hungry enough, butter chicken and malai kofta, and both were worse than mediocre. The food is a little pricey but honestly this is a hidden gem for how amazing and flavorful everything was. The ambiance of this restuarant is like no other, so colorful and well decorated, very unique to the culture which is what I really appreciated. My friend and I came here right when the restaurant opened and the service was great. We were seated and were able to order immediately. We did have to ask to refill water a couple times but that wasn't really a big deal. The food here though is probably one of the best Indian cuisines I've ever had. We ordered and shared the lamb pista korma and the goat cheese naan which are now my two favorite dishes. The curry was rich and flavorful, with a hint of sweetness. There were levels to the curry and the naan that I've never experienced. Although it was a little out of my price range, I would say it is 100% worth it. My third excellent five star review for this restaurant. This past week, I had the grilled mushrooms appetizer and the garlic naan. The garlic Nan is always delicious so this is about the grilled mushrooms which I had for the first time because it's so healthy and that many foods contain vitamin D like mushrooms do so I was anxious to try it but never did I expect it to be so delicious! I ordered it just for health reasons but it ended up being absolutely a pleasure, please never remove this from your menu or change the recipe because it was perfect just the way it came in my delivery and as always, their delivery is nice and prompt. If I could give zero star, I would. Like many others, we were lured by the high ratings of this place. However, the veggie curries we ordered had no veggies in them. They were just some kinds of creamy stews. I have never seen a Baingan Bartha without a single eggplant in it. To make matters worse, the bill came with a 20% gratuity included, even though the food was overpriced, the waitress was unfriendly, and we were only a party of 2! We were looking for a place to have Indian food on the upper East side. The place is compact, but the ambience was fine with the wall art and music. There were people smoking on the street and the doors were open so some of that lofted into the restaurant while we were eating. Service was OK. We had to call over the waitress multiple times in order to get our drinks. Additionally, despite us having a $250 Bill, we had to pack up our own leftovers. The food was decent, but spectacular. The five of us, we got the bread basket with rosemary, garlic, and plain naans. The appetizers including paneer tikka was good. My favorite dish was the malai kofta, which was actually spiced just right and was very flavorful. The butter chicken was nothing special. i have been there many times as i lived around the corner. I give them a score of 2.5 The pro and con: Con: the tables are always sticky even if i am the first guest for the day. The chair where you put your hands on are also sticky. The cushion part of the chair is sagging and in fact very dirty. Just black and grey. The ambiance goes for the old style looking and hides the real dirty stuff. I really don't care for it. Always, there is a bug, flies and mosquitos. Also under the table it is moldy, especially the table next to the window in the corner. My skin has reaction twice I sat there. I am allergic to mold. It is also very hot and stuffy when you walk in at 12 noon. Not sure why. Maybe they want to save money on AC. Food isn't cheap. Even Lunch is not. My entree of sag paneer was on the cold side, like it is not even lukewarm. I don't know what they are doing running the restaurant this way. Pricey. Too creamy sometimes. Moldy floor and moldy under table especially by the window Dirty. Flying bugs. Wish servers study English on the side and we can better communicate. Pro: when the food is hot, it is delicious. The deco is nice but hides the dirt and stains Try to pay them cash if at all possible. I definitely pay cash for tips so workers can go home with money that night. This is my new go-to for Indian takeout in the neighborhood. It's delicious, with heaping portions and fair prices. Plus, my order is always ready ahead of schedule. I recommend the North Indian special (apologies to my relatives in Kerala). That and a garlic naan are a full meal for two. I haven't had delicious Indian food like this in a while!! So glad I discovered this place because I feel like I can keep coming back to try different dishes. They also serve Goan food, featuring regional dishes from the Goa region in Indian, which is something I haven't had before! The Shrimp Xacuti was incredible! It was a blend of spices that kinda tasted like traditional Indian spices but also had this natural sweetness to the sauce plus a nice, thick creamy curry base. The shrimp were juicy and paired really nicely with this curry. We wanted to try the dosas but the owner said their oven that day wasn't working so well so he actually recommend us trying something similar to the dosa filling. We ended up getting the badshahi keem mutter (that was actually mixed lamb and chicken). It was so fragrant with the well-minced and well-seasoned meat with so many different spices and peas. It was a little too spicy for my friend so I wish they had different spice levels you could pick from. The garlic Naan was chewy, fluffy, and definitely garlic-y. Overall it was a delicious meal! The staff were very nice, especially the manager who gave us great recommendations and answered our questions. Liked the ancient Indian decor mixed with modern vibes. I love this place. The atmosphere is fun, they play old Bollywood films on the wall, and they have comfortable seating. I came on a Saturday night, with my boyfriend who was breaking his fast from Ramanan. He was happy to find a restaurant that served Halal meat. The owner welcomed us, and brought my boyfriend a plate of dates, which was extremely kind. We each started off with a bowl of Dhal Ka Shorba, a mildly spiced homemade lentil soup. The server recommended to order Egg Chops with the soup. THEY WERE SO GOOD. Egg chops are made of hard boiled egg, enrobed in mild spices, mashed potatoes, lightly fried, with a crispy bread crumb shell, and a nice spicy dipping sauce. For an entree we shared an order of Chicken Kadhai, chunks of chicken braised in a masala of coarse ground spices with sautéed onions and bell peppers, and some naan bread. For dessert we had Mango Kulfi, a homemade Indian Ice Cream, and cups of masala chai tea. It was a great experience. I'm excited to come back and try more. The food is so fresh and vibrant. We got the Palak Paneer, the artichoke dish, and something like tikka masala paneer. The palak paneer was the best and the other two not too crazy about. The artichoke dish was oddly sweet which we were not fans of. the tikka thing had too many peas and was not very creamy. The nan was good. The services was nice and good. Just probably would not come back as we didn't really like the food except the palak paneer and the prices were not that cheap like 18 per dish and 6 for a rice. Rice is not included . Bombay Chowk is another restaurant that I discovered during COVID, when getting food delivered to my doorstep was pretty much the only way for me to have a chance at sustenance. I ordered in from here quite frequently, but felt like some of the menu items were meant for a dine-in experience, and didn't really travel too well. I finally got a chance to dine in tonight, and really enjoyed my meal. For an appetizer, the chicken wontons hit the spot. They are like a love-child of a samosa and a dumpling, and the pomegranate in the chutney really elevates the flavor and texture. The chicken kali mirch (boneless chicken in a black peppercorn sauce) is spicy enough to cause beads to appear on my brow, and I needed to eat it with some pea pulao to somewhat neutralize the heat. The gajar ka halwa looks fancy but tasted a little unevenly reheated. The masala chai is nice and strong. The service is very hospitable and the interior of the restaurant is warm and welcoming.
