Beef Tikka Masala Burger, Lamb Saag, Chicken Korma lunch specials - IG @bougiefoodieboi
    Kyle W.

Located in Astoria Broadway right off the N subway, this is a fairly convenient location for a restaurant that deserves a lot more business. Quite a hidden gem that my high school friend recommended, and I enjoyed my experience. I arrived around 12pm and we were the only ones there up until 1:30pm, which is surprising as the lunch specials are quite excellent value in NYC. $14 for a combo meal - burger + fries + drink or the Indian entrees + a boat load of rice + lots of naan. I got the beef tikka masala burger with curly fries and ginger ale and my friends got the saag lamb and chicken korma. The burger is quite delicious and a bit of a fusion - nicely grilled patty with a tikka masala sauce. There is a thick cream and dipping sauce with the curly fries which they give a lot. The saag lamb was quite delicious and I usually only have had saag paneer so this was nice mixture. Naan was plain naan but cooked to be soft enough to enjoy it throughly, and the rice is perfectly cooked. The chicken korma was creamy and there are nuts to supplement the dish. Very hearty. Even though we are all hungry, there was so much food that we had one untouched bowl of rice and a few pieces of naan to-go to supplement and enjoy for a few extra meals. Service is good as to be expected as we were the only tables. As it was not busy, we spent a good 2 hours there and no one is rushing anyone, a perfect oasis from the hustle and bustle of NYC.

Excellent customer service. Friendly, patient, and helpful. I love how the menu clearly marked the vegan and gluten free options. There are so many vegan options! The portions are huge. The prices are great, especially for the amount of food they give you. And the place was very clean. I was elated to see our server cleanse his hands between tasks and handling food. I ordered the Saag because Aloo Saag is my favorite dish and I haven't had it in like forever because most places don't make it to my liking or they don't make it vegan. Theirs didn't have the aloo (potatoes), but that didn't keep it from being an amazing dish. I ordered spice level hot and it was the perfect amount of heat. Delicious dish. Habibi ordered the Chicken Cheese Masala fries, Lamb Butter Masala, and Garlic Cheese Naan. He loved his food as well. This place is open to 3am, which was extremely fortunate for us because we dined in at 2am. The menu is pretty extensive. There's something for everyone. Be sure to check them out!

I was wary of this place because of the fusion nature but I tried some takeout and it is good for actual Indian food. Lamb korma: the lamb itself is tender, and korma is decent although not as good as Sahib in Manhattan. Butter chicken: got this medium, and liked this more than the korma sauce although the chicken is a little dry. They give you massive amounts of rice. We also got the garlic naan and it was big. Lunch specials are great deals and seems like they offer on weekends too. I think this place is on par with Seva and such, and maybe a little better.

What a welcome addition to Astoria! Gaia Masala & Burger is a fusion restaurant that specializes in Indian and American cuisine. In addition to their Indian and Mediterranean dishes, they are known for their masala burgers, which include tikka masala sauce.  I had passed them many, many times and always thought this was a grubby restaurant; however, when I ventured inside, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of options and seating arrangements. I ordered my favorite, a lamb masala, and was delighted to see how tasty it was, not too spicy. What is great about their arrival in Astoria is that they are one of the very few restaurants that are open late on Broadway, so you can always depend on a good meal. A burger version complements every traditional Indian meal. In addition, they offer cheese steaks and gyros, so most culinary needs are met. I am now a firm fan and can recommend it, and I plan to return soon.

Finally got a chance to come here after walking past it so many times on my walk from the train station. We walked in on a Friday night and were welcomed immediately by a friendly server. We started off with the chicken tikka masala calzone which is quite unique. The crust was soft, buttery and the chicken tikka masala with mozzarella filling was delicious. Our main entree was the chicken tikka masala, which was creamy, appropriately spicy (medium). The portions were huge! Overall very good value for what you pay for. I will definitely be back and can't wait to try the rest of their menu. The place itself was casual and very clean. Definitely recommend trying this place out if you're in the area!

Food was delicious and there are so many lamb pieces in the rice. Chicken sandwiches is huge. I wrapped it with Nan and sauce they gave me so many kinds. I definitely return to buy food and grab a lunch.

Omg the food is so good!! I've been searching for a decently priced Indian/Halal pizza & burger spot AND their portion sizes are huge for me. Definitely will be enjoying it at home, sharing with my loved ones, and telling everyone I know to try it. I will be back for sure. The service is also super friendly and the ambience was perfectly chill for an introvert like me.

The perfect Astoria Indian food place DOES exist. And it's right freakin' here. They started us off with delicious Chai. The spice level and flavors were right on the money. Our server was so sweet and so cool--the kind of guy you just want to play a game of Smash Bros with. Also, my date was hot and that didn't hurt.

butter chicken with garlic oil made from garlic cooked for 6-7 hours, was so good I could cry

DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS PLACE! I was a little skeptical about this restaurant when I saw the menu, seeing as it seems to push fusion over traditional Indian foods. However, I stuck to the the basics and ordered what was the best butter chicken of my life. The sauce was chunky and beautifully reduced and had this luxurious taste from an oil infused throughout. I asked the wait staff and was told it is from garlic they cook for 6-7 hours. My mind was blown, please support this place because I need to be able to order this dish for the rest of my life !

The restaurant felt homey and I could tell there were many regulars and other return visitors, for good reason! We ordered the mixed vegetable and the oyster mushroom and surprisingly I much preferred the oyster mushroom variety. The mixed vegetable momo tasted more earthy to me. Himalayan rice set ($20.5)- this was a very nice assortment- there was rice, lentil dal, your protein of choice- (I chose beef brisket), stir fried cabbage, broccoli rabe, pickled vegetables and crisp flatbread. The only downside in my opinion was that the brisket wasn't too tender and I didn't love the beef flavoring or preparation. The rest of the items were so delicious! For appetizers, we got the Sabzi which was a nice vegetarian option with spinach, as well as the small afghan salad (normal diced cucumbers and tomatoes), the mantu dumplings which were pretty good and the Afghan naan which is just a vehicle for eating the dips. I would 1000% come here again and bring a friend if I were in Astoria. It seems popular with both locals and larger groups of families; lots of the tables inside had kids. It appears to be BYOB though we stuck to sparkling water.

Let's start with the noodles They're thick, chewy, and super bouncy -- literally my favorite kind of noodle. The hand-ripped texture really comes through, and every bite had that satisfying chew I'm always looking for. This is 100% my noodle type. I'm not Chinese, but I've had a lot of Chinese food in LA, so this didn't feel unfamiliar at all. I went with the default spice level, and it wasn't overly spicy, just super flavorful with that signature tingly kick. Comforting, bold, and very easy to keep eating I was actually hoping to try N1 (Spicy Cumin Lamb Hand-Ripped Noodles), but it was sold out super sad, but now I have a very clear reason to come back. The lamb dumplings (F4) were great too. You can really taste the lamb, which I loved. The wrappers are a bit thicker, but that feels very traditional and totally works When things started getting rich and spicy, the cucumber salad (L2) came in clutch Fresh, tangy, and perfect for resetting your palate mid-meal. I came in pretty close to closing time, but the staff told me to take my time and not rush, which I really appreciated. Small thing, but it made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming Also... We got a four-top at the front of the place. The restaurant decor is pleasant. It's a bit dark inside, but welcoming. Our server was very friendly. We started by ordering three starters - Mantu Dumplings (described in the menu as: steamed dumplings w/ beef, onions, cilantro + spices, topped with garlic mint yogurt sauce and garnished with lamb gravy and yellow split peas), Borani Banjan (eggplant) and Bamia (okra, stewed with tomato and onion sauce). Each of the starters was great. I think my favorite was the dumpling, followed by the eggplant and then the okra. Although the okra dish was delicious, it seemed like the simplest one, and one I could make most easily at home. The server suggested we get an order of Afghan Naan to go with the starters. The Naan was "OK". I would call that the weak part of the meal. It was fairly flavorless and didn't really enhance the flavors of the starters. The three of us shared two entrees - Chicken Afghan Kabob and Salmon Kabob. Each comes with a large side of rice. We also ordered one Qabuli (a rice topping made of raisins and carrots, sautéed in a cardamom syrup). The Qabuli is an extra dollar. The server said he would put it on the side, which was an excellent suggestion, because the rice was flavorful on its own and the Qabuli on its own made an excellent, sweet side dish. The Kabobs were both very good. The chicken was moist and tender and nicely seasoned. But the salmon - oh my gosh - the salmon light, flaky texture melted in my mouth. I couldn't stop eating the salmon. The rice was flavorful and the texture consistent. Before serving the entree, the server brought over a small salad to share, which was refreshing - lettuce and tomato and cucumbers. We didn't order dessert. But the server comped us a Firnee (homemade custard), which was very good. We were so full we couldn't finish it (or most of the rice from the entrees). The portions here are a nice size. Bottled waters were $2 each. They were ice cold and a good value for a restaurant. Honestly, the prices here overall are very reasonable. The food is good and nice portion sizes.
