Affordable and flavorful Indian food (4/5 Green Stars) Bombay Eats began as Bombay Wraps in 2010 and has just completed a name-change and rebranding. Considering the old name, I ordered wraps, figuring they do them well - and they did! I ordered the cheese paneer wrap ($6.99) and the potato cauliflower wrap ($6.49) to go and they were assembled fast in front of my eyes. The server explained that the mild sauce was a 3/10 while the spicy was 7/10, so I went with the mild and I'm glad I did as it had a bit of a kick! The wraps (choice of paratha or whole wheat roti) themselves are delicious and the spicy fillings are nicely balanced with some shredded cabbage/lettuce. For $17 including tax + tip it was a lot of food - a large dinner for one or lunch for two. I highly recommend Bombay Eats for quick flavorful Indian street food and will visit again when I (hopefully) make it back to Chicago. I want to try all of their "messy" sides next. Messy sweet potato fries, topped with paneer, tikka masala sauce, chutney & fresh cilantro? Yes please! I'm also rating Bombay Eats 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following: * Bombay Eats seems to be a well-loved by locals and the owners are known as a decent people. * They have a Bombay Cares program where they participate in fundraisers. Coming up in June - the Alzheimer's Association. * A good spot for vegans and vegetarians. The website has a nice guide (vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, Halal, etc.) to each component (wrap, filling, sauce, etc.) so everything's clear. * The biggest thing that Bombay Eats could do for the planet is to stick with chicken as the main meat offering and ditch the beef and lamb. The environmental footprints (carbon, land, etc.) of beef and lamb are more than10 times higher than those of chicken. It would be nice to see seitan or other plant proteins instead of the beef and lamb. * Packaging for my wraps was fairly minimal: foil-coated paper and a small paper bag. read more

Has anyone else noticed the Cava-fication of fast-casual dining? I am not exactly complaining, I happen to like Cava! However, I don't love that such places almost always: Have high prices, exclusively large portions, and at times, less-than-stellar quality. Enter Bombay Eats! Don't get me wrong, they have bowls too, if that's what you're into, but they also have rolls and wraps. What makes these even better is that they are very reasonably priced (~$6.50/each), and a smaller portion without making one feel guilty or weird for ordering a kids meal. The website states "1 wrap = a snack. 1 wrap + side or 2 wraps = a meal" Not wanting to be stuffed, I ordered a single Chicken Reshmi Wrap, Spicy, in a Flaky Paratha. The bread is legit! It is warm and slightly flaky, being removed fresh from a hot griddle, rather than from a bag. The protein was tender, flavorful, and in ample amounts. The veggies were fresh and tasty (the pickled onions, for example, were well-marinated). As for sauces, I only responded to "Spicy or mild" with "Spicy" and got something perfectly sauced with mild, gently warming heat. The service is polite and efficient, no complaints there. The vibe is simple, and has a good use of color to keep from being depressing. Everything is also very clean. Finally, I appreciate the large container of water and plastic cups. Final verdict: Bombay Eats has done something remarkable. It took a concept that was done to death thanks to trends (I suppose?), and has refined it just enough to give me cravings as I write this review. read more

Our family was doing a day trip in Chicago and had dinner at Bombay Eats. We loved it! Such a great alternative to the standard burger and fries. We got three different wraps, which were delicious and filling without making us feel sluggish and weighed down. The staff were friendly and all the food is assembled in front of you so it's easy to customize everything. The prices were very reasonable as well. read more

Ambiance: Nice, clean, welcoming. Pretty busy at 2:30pm on Sunday. Employees (younger gal and guy) were meh as customer service went. The gal cashier was unsure if anything with sesame or nuts. She asked the guy and he confirmed none used. NOTE: Peanut allergy people, since peanuts are legumes,they do use peas. Peas are listed. It was end of day when I got my order, and I would have thought perhaps they might want to offer options. I guess when it's a Too Good To Go app order, they don't think they need to ask. I did also inquire about spiciness. I was told no. Wrong. The cauliflower with peas SPICY hot. The chickpea thingy not as spicy. Disliked it all. Actually, my "tastebud dislike" matched the "odor dislike." I won't be returning. BTW, the location had a number of people in there eating and others ordering. Review Visit: November 26th, 2018 Bombay Wraps was... the bomb. A final stop on my post-blizzard trip to Chicago. After grabbing dessert and a coffee at Stan's Donuts, I walked with said coffee to Bombay for some real food for the first time on this day. While scouring my GPS for a place to eat at Stan's, I saw Bombay Wraps. On a cold day, a hot meal sounded wonderful. Of all the places detailed in this blog, there hasn't been an Indian place until know. It took about 10 minutes to walk there from Stan's, due to the traffic and the amount of people out and about. Once I got there, I was surprised to see it mostly empty during lunch time. Maybe I had just missed the rush. Oh well, all the easier for me to order. The menu was kind of foreign to me. I knew quite a few of the terms, but that doesn't mean I knew how they tasted. A few minutes passed of looking over the menu before I had to decide between the chicken tikka and chicken reshmi. In the end, I picked the chicken tikka. The lady cooking it asked if I wanted it spicy. I quickly said "yes" before she could finish her question. The way they make it is almost like subway. They have all the ingredients out and make it as you walk towards the cashier. I was given my food before I could get my change from paying. I grabbed a seat at one of the stools that was along the front wall, so I could look out of the store front as I ate. I noticed my wrap was smaller than I expected but that was fine as I had most of a massive donut a few minutes before. As I tried to pick up this soaking and messy wrap, trepidation set in. I was about to taste my first Indian cuisine and I was nervous. Wrap in mouth, I take my first bite... and am pleasant surprised by how delicious it was. Once I finish the first bite, the spicy kicked in and I took my first sip of the coffee I brought with me. It did nothing to settle the slight burn that was setting in. Wow. I took my time eating the wrap as I was trying to enjoy all the new flavors and tastes I was experiencing. It was delightful. Sadly, the wrap was a lot smaller than I expected it to be. For $5 and change, I was expecting a bit more to the wrap but the quality of what I got couldn't be beat. Each bite was filled full of flavor and a spicy kick that couldn't be beat. Alas, this was my last stop before I resumed some family duties. I was in a hurry to get back to where I needed to be that I forgot to snap a good photo of the inside. It was a bit sparse when it came to decorations but there was plenty of room to handle a lunch/dinner rush. This place is located on the loop. It's down the street from the Hilton and across the street from Massage Envy. We ordered the bowl. Chicken Tikka-Grilled chicken breast marinated in traditional tandoori spices topped with a tikka masala sauce. It comes with Basmati Rice & Wild Rice or House Salad (lettuce, spring mix, carrots). We asked for mild, it was still a bit spicy, but good. Next time I think I'll order the Paneer. The serving was a healthy size. I recommend this place to you. It's a solid meal. read more

Wow - fast casual, very inexpensive, and delicious Indian style food! We got the chicken tikka wrap, messy samosa, and messy potato chips. They taste very rich but not too oily or salty, which is my preference. The chicken tikka wrap is fairly flavorful, just a bit messily presented which is okay - can't really complain for $6.49 for a sizable amount of food. The chicken is just a bit dry but they give a lot of chicken - definitely more of a quantity over quality type of place. The messy samosa is very good - slightly spicy and super flavorful, and the chickpeas fill you up. The messy potato chips is topped with chicken tikka which is a weird combination but it is a satisfying appetizer. Bombay eats is a great spot for a quick lunch in downtown! The chickpea chana salad and samosa salad bowls are actually quite filling, since they both come with chickpeas. The samosa salad bowl is one of my favorites, the crushed up samosas are similar to croutons and you get to choose the type of chutney/dressing on top. The dressing is super flavorful and not too spicy. I also like to get the paratha wrap with another paratha on the side. The wraps are the most economical of the options. The service is similar to Chipotle where they put the dish together in front of you, and I've never encountered a huge line even during lunch rush. This is a fast-food style eatery offering delicious Indian sandwiches and wraps. They also have bowls and several sides. I had previously ordered online a few times and always liked the taste. I was pleasantly surprised with this place, neat little boxes for the food. It's one of the modern ordering systems, where you use the kiosk. Still getting used to these. On to the food, you can select the sandwich of your choice, condiments and the spice level. If you're a curry lover you're set. If you're not, look for the little flaky samosas. The sandwiches are basically kebabs on pita bread or a roll. Very well seasoned and loaded with complimentary ingredients. Value was pretty good for Streeterville. read more

Bombay Eats is a quick filling Indian meal. They have multiple options in rolls, wraps and bowls. I always go for the potato cauliflower and paneer wraps. I think you need just 1 for a quick meal but two if you're pretty hungry. Service is quick and they ask you for various extra ingredient options. It's pretty neat inside the restaurant. They also have a rewards program so join it and keep earning! read more

I've had their lamb curry and their chicken reshmi on two separate occasions. They were both filling and not bad. I think it would have just been nice to have more sauce or more of the vegetables I chose to have on the side. They described the reshmi as having a creamy yogurt sauce, but because of the low amount of sauce, the bowl overall was not very creamy at all. read more

The wraps are delicious with high quality chicken and lamb and their sauces are SO GOOD I always ask for extra of each. The menu was easy to follow. The food was made fresh. The prices were just right. We picked up the Chicken Reshmi wrap, the Chicken Tikka wrap, and the lamb curry wrap, all on the flaky paratha. We also ordered the samosas and the messy sweet potato fries. I particularly enjoyed the Chicken Reshmi wrap and the messy sweet potato fries and will willing go back to try the other items in the menu. The lamb curry wrap was very hearty and decadent. I didn't not get a bite of the chicken tikka wrap. No sharing from THaT family member. ; ) The flaky paratha was really good and not oily. This restaurant is slowly becoming one of my favorite Indian quick eats. The wraps are flavorful and filling. They say one wrap is a snack and two is a meal and I would agree. This time around I ordered the Lamb Curry wrap and the mild chicken Tikka wrap. This was first time trying the Lamb Curry wrap and it's a showstopper. The best way to describe Bombay Wraps is like the Indian version of Chipotle or Subway. While their menu is not vast, they offer multiple options for each dish, so you truly can have it your way! 1) You can have a wrap and can choose from roti or paratha. 2) You can have it as a sandwich, served on a roll. 3) You can have it as a bowl. There are two options for this. A rice bowl with your choice of curry and fillings served over Basmati rice or if you opt for no rice, you can choose a salad bowl to layer your curry and fillings on. Whether you prefer vegetarian or non-vegetarian, there is something for everyone. Wife and I ordered a Chicken Tikka rice bowl, a Beef Kabob roti wrap and a Lamb Curry Paratha Wrap. All were delicious but the Chicken Tikka rice bowl was definitely our favorite. The food is fresh, fast and flavorful! The restaurant itself has ample seating to accommodate singles, couples, and families. A unique and nice added touch is they have a small, nicely organized section that offers a small variety of Indian spices, pickles, biscuits (Indian cookies), etc., for sale. Their prices are quite reasonable. Depending on what you need, you may be able to get your dinner and shopping done and save yourself a trip to the Indian store. Typically, you choice 1 type of filling, but the server was kind enough to let me both - 1/2 Paneer and 1/2 Cauliflower, Potato, and Peas. My hubby enjoyed 3 freshly grilled Roti (almost as good as my mothers!) and Chicken Tikka. The yogurt-based Mango Lassi was sweet and refreshing and perfect way to cool off in the sweltering heat. Lacking Indian authenticity big time. I mean anyone can dish out ultra basic 2/10 Indian food wrapped in a frozen flaky paratha, the kind that Deep and other brands sell in stores. Interesting place to get Indian fast-food type wraps and sandwiches. Their menu consists of Indian staples (chicken tikka masala, lamb curry, paneer, etc.) served in a paratha or roti roll, sandwich roll, rice bowl, or salad. Went with a friend and tried their chicken tikka and lamb both on paratha rolls, and a side of their spiced sweet potatoe fries. The chicken tikka roll was good, with a flavorful sauce and tender pieces of chicken; however, I do wish the chicken was cooked in the sauce instead of cooked separately and covered in sauce when you order. The lamb was tender and cooked well, but didn't have as much flavor and could've used some more spices. Surprisingly, the sweet potato fries were the best part, fried until perfectly crisp, seasoned well enough to eat on their own but served with a yummy spicy ketchup on the side. While it's not the most authentic Indian food, it's nice to have a good cheap, fast-food Indian place around when you're in the mood for a quick bite. read more

So I went here on 10/11/2018 for my lunch while at work and was surprisingly surprised. Upon entering the set up is Chitpole style.. open window kitchen with the ingredients open for the customer to view. I order the Chicken Tikki wrap and an order of samosa. The food was pretty good for it to be fast food. Cons?? Personally, I am a person that likes bang for my buck and the wrap was justtttt a bit too tiny for $4.79 and $3 for three small samosas. Pros?? Open window kitchen and you can alter your meal if there is an ingredient you don't want. Did i mention that there is also a miniature grocery store attached?! Yes. Small snacks, treats and drinks that resemble the culture of the food are sold there. I did not try any of them but i was very tempted. Going back?
