My family has been going to Bombay Grill regularly for a decade at least. It is one of our favorite places to be. The food is incredible and the family that runs Bombay is very kind and capable. We've spent many birthdays and anniversaries there. Bombay Grill has catered several large events for us and they've done an amazing job. During the height of covid, we had food delivered from them regularly. Sometimes we order a bunch of meals from them for lunches and dinners throughout the week. There is no other place we like to eat nearly as much. Their buffet is the best Indian buffet I've ever had, and it serves the needs of our whole family, which includes vegetarians and picky eaters. Singh (the owner and chef) always makes us feel like family, as I'm sure other folks who go there regularly also feel. I have no idea how he accomplishes what he does. His sons have become our friends, and they also bring a bright and sweet spirit to the place. Running a restaurant has to be extremely challenging. Because we've been going so long, we've experienced the occasional off-moment (usually due to a substitute chef), but they have been far, far outweighed by positive experiences. We reached here at 8pm on a Tuesday on our way from Salt Lake City to Seattle. The decor is a bit dated but staff's enthusiasm and politeness more than makes up for it. The menu is limited, in a good way, it is a mix of north and South Indian food but doesn't contain every single dish I had heard of. We ordered chai, veg appetizer platter, chicken tikka and kadhai paneer with a garlic naan and an onion kulcha. Chai was perfectly made, not too sweet and smelled like cardamoms. Chicken tikka gravy was one of the buttery-iest, silkiest and tastiest gravy we ever tasted. Paneer was great too. Over all an unexpectedly great tasting food. We would happily stop again when we cross Boise next time. The chef/owner (?) came up to chat with us too and gave us really fatherly advice for being careful on the interstate. I usually read the reviews before I try a place. Of course, I did that here too, and the one comment I keyed in on was that it didn't taste like the Indian food he was used to. Well, I was talking to a friend of mine on Skype the other day who likes in Kolkata (Calcutta for you older folk) and the comment was of course it doesn't! India is a huge country. Northern Indian food tastes much different than Southern. Punjabi Indian food, of which this is a very good representation, is different too; it is Nothern India, but also includes elements of East Pakistan this is part of the historical Punjab region. Now on to the food! I went to a few of the lunch buffets. They are a great way to experience the variety of food at Bombay Grill. After the first time, I already had my favorites---the Lamb Vindaloo, a meaty curried stew with big chunks of lamb, the Vegetable Pakoras, a medley of fried veggies such as onion, potatoes, spinach and cauliflower, batter fried and served with either a red or green chutney. The delicate crunch of the veggies is really great! And this, like many dishes on the menu, is labeled there as vegan and vegetarian friendly. Chicken Tikka Masala has a nice kick to it but is not too spicy. You can always spice it up more with the chutney. The naan was fresh and tore nicely to sop up the sauce from the chicken. Finally, the Gulab Aman were little balls of sweet heaven, a perfect dessert for the end of the meal. The buffet was wonderful at the Bombay Grill. Next time I'm going to go for dinner and see what regional dishes they recommend. That is the way to learn about an area and a restaurant. Last night we went to Bombay Grill for my son's 21st birthday. Others in my party had lamb or chicken but I decided to go with the goat. The service was fantastic and the food was phenomenal! The last time I ate goat was when I was in the Middle East but it was nowhere as good as this! I ordered mine spicy and the curry sauce had just the right amount of heat. The goat was tender and the garlic nan bread was warm and delicious! The chef, who was very friendly, came out to see how we were enjoying our food and I had nothing but praise for his cooking. 2 STAR SERVICE - Good Food We had not been to this restaurant in about 3 years. When we lived in the North End, this was by far our favorite Indian food restaurant in the area, never a bad experience. So for our anniversary, we decided to go back to this delicious welcoming place we knew and trusted. Everything was going well, until the snotty over entitled waiter arrived. Apparently this restaurant now allows staff to correct guests on pronunciation, so condescending and rude. The waiter was white btw, so no, I don't appreciate someone being arrogant while taking my order. Then there was the hostess, openly flirting with my husband. Asking if "HE" wanted more water. Not once did I get offered water, I had to finally set my glass out in front of her to get her to notice me. Then after the food was delivered, the waiter vanished. Did not check on us once! Not even for napkins, to go boxes, refills, or delivering the check. Instead the hostess with the crush came back to "wait" on "us", after an hour dinner I counted 15 times. She did manage to-go boxes though, which was then neutralized by her table reach, where she blocked my husband from view, in the middle of our conversation After we packed our food, we proceeded to wait 20 min for the check. No one ever came back. So, we walked up to the register and did more waiting, because the staff was all in the kitchen. When the owner came up, we had to confirm where we were sitting and what we had to eat and drink. It was all a very contrasting and interesting experience. If you are looking for delicious Indian food, look no further! Everything on the menu is flavorful and offers 4 heat levels. The naan is to die for especially when it arrives straight from the "oven". We tried the traditional hot chai tea and the flavor was something I did not expect, but loved. It was well rounded, fragrant and creamy. Curry is traditional and very flavorful, while the vegetable appetizer platter is a good starter. I have been to Bombay Grill many times for the lunch buffet, but wanted to wait until I tried them for a dinner to give them a review. I've found that some Indian restaurants rock the buffet, but fail miserably at providing a single meal and vice versa. Bombay Grill did not disappoint. Instantly treated with an appetizer and water, the waiter, Dawson helped me with any question asked. The staff and owners are also welcoming and always remember me when I come in. I was planning on having a good dinner at Bombay Grill but unfortunately that didn't happen. Their sign that they have posted on their front door says, "must have a reservation, restaurant full". So we decided to walk in and put our names on the list but we were greeted with a disgruntled gentleman and rudely said they only accept reservations. When clearly 3/4 of the restaurant was empty... so we decided to go to Taj Mahal and had a way better experience there, plus no reservation needed. read more

I don't want to leave a bad review. But I tried to find somewhere to message what happened and couldn't find anywhere to do that. We booked for March 7th and showed up, paid $5 for parking only to walk in and see a sign on the door that says it's closed thru March 16th for a family trip. I think it's great that they went on a trip. However, I just wish the option to reserve at Open Table would have been turned off so we didn't waste our time and money for nothing. Hopefully we can try it sometime in the future but just some constructive criticism to maybe help with customer frustration. I think this place mostly makes money with its lunch Buffet which is great. I've been twice for dinner and the service is really clunky. Servers are not very attentive. It's got amateurish in terms of things like servers not one for you, not removing empty play settings, not clearing dishes etc. All that said the food is tasty and the prices are reasonable read more

The Idanha building is one of the coolest historic buildings in Boise, so the ambiance is great. Food is excellent and reasonably priced for downtown. Bombay Grill offers up delicious Indian eats in a lovely setting. When I first walked into Bombay Grill, I didn't expect the large dining room I encountered! I would say Bombay Grill is probably one of the better options for Indian dining in Boise with a large group (where you'll still have plenty of elbow room). I typically order their Chicken Tikka Masala, which always comes out flavorful and delicious. They are generous with the heat, though. So, if you don't like things too spicy, I would ask for it very mild. I made the mistake of asking for it "mild to medium-ish" (a little indecisive, I realize) and it came out tasting like an edible version of the sun on the 4th of July (ie: blazing hot). A testimony to their deliciousness? Even with mouth on fire, neck splotching, and forehead beginning to perspire (I'm a baby), I couldn't stop from finishing it. Beyond their chicken tikka, I would say they nail all the staples. Their naan? Exactly perfect (ie: not too crispy, not too soft). Their basmati? Light and lovely perfection. I've been here for the all you can eat lunch buffet here several times in the past, but today was my first during the COVID-19 pandemic. These guys have adapted so well. They now serve you from the food buffet, tell them what you want and how much and they pile it into your plate. If making more than 1 trip up for food, they give you a fresh plate and reserve you. Naan is still the best I d had in Boise. Taj Mahal beers are cold, although I really wish they served Kingfisher. Our server (a young girl) was informative and bubbly, she forgot our beer order, but was very apologetic and we were thirsty so didn't wait long to catch her eye and remind her. I had a great dinner experience here... the reviews for Bombay are mixed on yelp and google of either being incredible or lackluster. Generally the lackluster reviews seem to fall under the lunch category... For dinner, We were greeted promptly, seated, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. They brought a small appetizer, not sure of the name but it's like a thin crispy sheet chip with chutney... it's was tasty! I got a lamb dish that was incredible, traditional, and none was left on my plate... so good! We also got Lassi drinks- great! I will definitely be going to this restaurant for dinner again.
