Buffet is very good. Cost for adults is right around $17. For the kinds of food, including lamb, that you can get, and the fact that it is a Buffet, it is worth the cost. Taste and variety are great. I have eaten Indian food all over the US, from California to Maine AND in Europe (sadly, not in India yet). Indian is one of my favorite cuisines so I try restaurants everywhere along my travels. I am visiting Boise and decided to try the Bombay Grill lunch buffet. I can hands-down say that it is the best Indian buffet I've ever had, and I am a bit of a food snob in that I am very particular. Granted, a couple things I tried were just OK (still very good), but for the most part, everything was excellent. There were plenty of options for everyone. They have all the popular favorites, but include a nice variety of other things to try. It gave me a good idea of the quality of items on the menu...and this was just the buffet! The spice level was just right for a buffet too...nothing hot, but still perfectly spiced and flavorful. If I lived here I'd be a weekly customer at a minimum! Kudos to the staff, who allowed me to grab a plate at 1:55 when I got there (the buffet closes at 2), and then asked me if I wanted a refill before they removed everything. It was so good that I did grab a spare plate and shouldn't have because I was still eating at 2:30 when they closed and I couldn't eat another bite if I wanted to. Bravo as well to little Karman who is a very articulate young lady helping out at her family's establishment over the summer break. read more

Figured we'd try another Indian restaurant in the valley. The only option for lunch is the buffet which is sad because they don't offer the Chicken coconut Kurma on the buffet and my GF can only eat a small portion so she enjoys taking home leftovers. The food wasn't very good. I used the buffet as a chance to try different dishes and even my two go too, chicken tikka masala and butter chicken, were not very good at all. Everything lacked much flavor and the flavors they did have, just weren't good. Bland, off food, and cans of soda, was all around and bad meal. Naan bread was ok though. The food is outstanding. I either order lamb or chicken options. The meat is to die for tender. Recently, I had family visiting so put in an order for take out. Indian take out is a standard go-to for these occasions in England. The web site was easy to navigate, and the order was right on time. We picked up rather than have it delivered. Only thing I'd say is if you have a big order, ask one of the wonderful staff members to help you carry it down the steep steps. read more

We were in Boise for a short trip and picked this spot, so glad we did! We both had the malai kofta (my go-to order) and pretty much all we talked about for the whole meal was how good it was. I had plain naan and my friend had garlic, both were amazing. The rice portions are pretty small so I advise getting naan with your order! A really cool location as well, part of an old building with marble floors connected to other businesses. Service was nice and overall great experience. Thanks! Ordered takeout recently. Items were nicely packaged and everything showed up nice and hot. However, this is probably where any of my pros begin and end. Chicken Vindaloo- Requested it at their highest spice level offered for takeout. This dish was quite bland. I didn't notice any type of heat or spices from this gravy. It was basically some slightly overcooked chicken in tomato sauce. One of the weaker vindaloos that's I've tried. No spices, I didn't see any types of chili peppers present. Only spice I may have noticed was cayenne. It might as well have been a mild spice level. One of the blandest vindaloos I've ever had. Dal Tadka- I provided a picture of this dish. I don't think the Dal was even cooked all of the way through as you can tell by my pictures. Runny, undercooked and bland. Minimal spices as well. Ordered hot for spice level, it tasted mild to me. Probably one of my least favorite dal Tadkas I've ever tried. The complimentary rice was even slightly overcooked and flavorless. The naan was okay though. Based on all of this I definitely cannot recommend Bombay. Maybe I ordered the wrong dishes, but I won't be planning a return visit anytime soon. read more

So not much to say, the food was very average and forgettable. Not bad, just not noteworthy in any sense. I asked for extra spicy vindalo and what I received was less than a mild, but they insisted it was "extra spicy". I told them it was a 1 on 10. They took it back to spice it up and when they came back they assured me a 10 on 10 spiciness... it was a 6 or 7 at best. Mango lassi was good. Yelp checkin offered a free soda. I turned it down. Honestly the free offer should showcase your cuisine, a small appetizer perhaps. read more

Located in the historic Idanha building, Bombay Grill's buffet never disappoints. They have a decent variety of delicious dishes including chutneys and salad. They also serve dessert and chai. You are served fresh warm naan and a glass of water upon being seated. The seating is comfortable whether you are there on a date, with friends, or your children. The service is good. Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to in a while. Everyone here were so nice! Got a chance to speak to the chef as well who made sure we got everything we needed. Even though they were short staffed the service was excellent! And the food--- unbelievable. We ordered a bunch of dishes expecting to take left overs home. Yeah, that didnt happen! We over ate because everything we ordered was finger licking good. We got the dal tadka, lamb, chicken curry, paneer tikka masala and kheer for dessert. What a disappointment for tonight's take-out dinner, particularly the tandoori chicken that smelled and tasted like a sweet BBQ sauce and ketchum infused chicken stir fry of sorts. My all time cuisine of India is the tandoori chicken because of the earthy spices and exotic flavors unmatched by anything, but this one unfortunately was underwhelming in so many ways. Why am I just now finding out about their lunch buffet?!? It is glorious. When my friends invited me out for Indian food, I was anticipating we would sit down, wait a few minutes, order, wait a few minutes, and then eat. What we experienced was far from that - we walked in, dropped our coats at our table, walked over to the buffet, filled our plates to our heart's content, sat down, ate, and then repeated the last four steps for good measure. ;) The whole set up is genius - the restaurant is downtown (making it an ideal lunch spot), wait-time for food is pretty much non-existent, it's affordable considering what you get (around $12), and it is delicious! I tried a little bit of everything - the tikka masala, butter chicken, a vegetable curry, fried rice, chai tea, and these fried vegetable things. Oh. My. Gaaaaah. Let me tell you about the fried vegetables (I wish I could recall the actual name of the dish) - they were somethin' else, in a good way. Everything was good - but those were my favorite thing I tried. I cannot say too much regarding service seeing as it was a buffet. Our server did stop by several times and refill our waters/take away old plates - so I assume that if it were a normal dining experience service would be prompt! I also cannot say much about coming here for dinner as all I've experienced was their lunch buffet - and well, after the last few paragraphs you already know how I feel about that! *Heart eyes* read more

Indian person here. This place is gross. Dirty forks, dirty plates and a fly. They were able to remedy the first two easily, the fly however was another issue. They handed my husband a fly swatter and told him to swat away the fly if it came back within reach. Stay away! read more

We crave Indian Food and, where ever we, we look for places where we can get it. We are very pleased to have found the Bombay Grill. The staff is pleasant and the food is great. We moved to Boise from a much more densely populated area about a year ago. In our old location, it was hard to find good Indian food - there were ~6 places within 10 miles that served Indian food. The good restaurants would come and go, or the good chefs would move on. Most of the time, we would find ourselves wishing we could go out for predictably good food - it would be hit or miss. We are happy with the Bombay Grill and I feel like it is at least as good as any Indian restaurant that we have visited in our previous home location or while traveling. We have visited the Bombay Grill ~6 times so far. I see some of the other reviews and would say that, - yes, the building is old and the furnishings a bit dated...but that is not what I care about. I'd say it has character. - no, I have not noticed any cleanliness issues and I am on the look out for that type of thing. - yes, Indian food can vary a lot depending upon the specialty/region of the owners. I'd say, the food here is doing a darn good job at representing the Bombay region - as advertised! read more
