Pretty good Indian. Not the best I've had, but for Brooklyn it's definitely one of the best. I had: Garlic naan Lamb Rogan Josh curry (recommend)

Chicken Tikka

I love this place. It's my favorite Indian food in Brooklyn. Love their chicken and I love their spinach dishes. Not pictured: the veggie samosa and garlic naan which my friend and I scarfed down. Service was very kind and professional. At lunch on a Wednesday, there was only one other group. My friend and I pretty much had the place to ourselves. Lunch specials are $10! I also order online and have always had a great experience.

I placed an online order from Bombay Grill and it arrived around the time that they specified even though the place was far away from my home. I ordered the "Entree Special" that includes one appetizer, one entree, basmati rice, and naan bread. I chose samosas and chicken tikka masala and the order was made correctly. The samosas were vegetarian and came in 2 in an aluminum box. They were kind of mushy and soft with lots of potatoes and peas. They go well with the green chutney. The chicken tikka masala came in a plastic container separate from the basmati rice and was drenched in a lot of sauce. The pieces of chicken were of breast meat, chunky, and white. It tasted a bit too sweet and sauce had a thick consistency. The naan bread was plain and puffy, good with the dipping chutneys. I ordered a mango lassi and they gave very little. It was in a small 8 oz coffee cup. The consistency was thick and somewhat sweet and tasted good. It gets you hooked wanting for more but too bad they gave so little. Also they forgot to give me utensils when I checked yes to having utensils.

Starting with the food, service, most courteous and helpful staff, a super clean restaurant down to the bathrooms. We came her to celebrate a birthday and as always I cannot say enough great things about the restaurant. Other restaurants need to visit Atithi and take a page out of their book. We started with naan bread and the Atithi special platter. We had the Tandoori Haryali Shrimp and Chicken Tiki and Garlic naan bread as well. For entrees we had the Chicken Korma, Shrimp Curry and Tandoori Chicken. You can order these dishes, mild, spicy and very spicy. The interior is colorful and immersive - as if you're transported away from Brooklyn. Food comes out piping hot and super tasty. Although we ordered mild for everything (mainly due to having a two year old), there were definitely hints of heat, which honestly was fantastic for me - I can only imagine what spicy would be. It was my mil's first time trying Indian food in this way and she enjoyed it all.

The vegetables, lentils, and rice were balanced and comforting, and it really tasted homemade in the best way. The summer salad was also lovely, and the pani puri was decent. Service was warm, and the atmosphere was relaxed, with nice outdoor seating in the back. Just note that you pay at the counter when you order. Great lunch spot overall, and I hope to return for dinner.

We chose bar seating, which ended up being a bit of a tight squeeze facing the wall; not the most comfortable setup, but manageable for a short meal. To start, we had the pani puri, followed by the samosa chaat. The flavors were good, but the samosa chaat was a bit of a letdown. It wasn't served hot, and the samosa itself was soggy rather than crisp. That contrast in texture is really what makes the dish shine, so it felt like it may have sat a bit too long or was over-sauced. We also tried the vegetable pav, which was decent, and the cod, which was actually very good; nicely cooked with a flavorful sauce. I did find myself wishing we had an extra roti to soak up the rest. For drinks, I had the mango lassi, which I appreciated for not being overly sweet. Service was okay but could be more attentive. My water wasn't refilled after a couple of rounds, and we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the meal. We were given the check without being asked about dessert, which caught us off guard. We did ask afterward, but by then decided to go elsewhere. That said, the food overall is flavorful, and I can see why this place has appeal; especially if you're looking for something a little different in the neighborhood. Having met the owner before in Industry City, it's great to see her doing well in Carroll Gardens, and I wish the restaurant continued success.

We didn't…read moreeven know this place existed, but after leaving the first spot, bumping into this one and seeing the review about the "biggest masala dosa", we had to try it. Spoiler, we never made it to any of the other locations because we were so full. Jalsa provide fare from all over India and makes paneer in house. They have plenty of seating and can take care of large catering parties. As is customary, they have a Sunday lunch buffet. We came on a rainy Saturday afternoons and there weren't many patrons dining. We went with the masala chai, mango lassi, lamb kati roll, and a ghee masala dosa with gun powder, upon recommendation. -The masala chai was perfectly blended, with sugar on the side to sweeten to one's liking. -The mango lassi was really good, but a bit thicker than I'd like; good tartness. -Lamb kati roll was really good, larger than expected. The flavours were well balanced and the paratha had a good flake to it. There was A LOT of lamb inside. -The ghee masala dosa was the shining star; it must have been 2.5, if not 3 feet long. The edges were super crispy like a chip, and the masala potato pilling was delicious If I could do it all over again, I'd only eat here and not eat ahead of time, since this was enough food to fill a party of two (maybe add in a samosa or two). I'll definitely be coming back to try more fare.

The decor and vibe of this place is so vibrant and beautiful, it instantly puts you in a good mood. I came here for a solo dinner during restaurant week which was a pretty good deal. Most of the patrons seem like they were neighborhood locals which I love to see. I would say based on the flavors and the people dining here that this restaurant is more of a gentrified desi place than authentic. I found the flavors in most of the items I tried lacking. The fuchka prepared tableside is a nice touch, but again the marketing is geared more towards non-desi patrons. The fish fry was delicious and a good portion but more like a good British fish n chips cod filet than a desi fish fry with proper spices. Even the mustard served on the side was awfully bland with no spice whatsoever. While I can still appreciate the flavors, I will always be disappointed when an establishment trades authenticity to serve and coddle palettes that do not appreciate proper desi food. The lamb curry was very very good, and I specifically asked for it to be made spicy. Dining here felt like invading a curated space for non Indians, so I unapologetically ate the curry and rice with my hands to remind myself that yes, this is still our food even if it's muted. To the owners I say - do better and do not shy away from authentic flavors. This is afterall, New York freaking City. We are allowed to show up and showcase our cuisine with full masala, full spice and full heat - just the way God intended it to be.
