Came here tonight with a couple girlfriends after drinks at Harriet's rooftop. About 10 minutes away. We were all craving Indian food. Easily the best decision. Got there right before the kitchen closed and they still seated us and took our order. So sweet. It wasn't busy either, so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Private dinner energy. The restaurant is stunning. Old-school Beverly Hills. Warm lighting, gold tones, high ceilings. Little wall niches with bronze Hindu deity statues. Very much dinner at your aunty's house. We got chicken tikka, dal, rice, and tandoori chicken. The tandoori chicken was the highlight for me. Smoky, juicy, really flavorful. They brought us gulab jamun for dessert. So good. Bombay Palace was one of those meals that just hits on every level. The butter chicken was rich, perfectly spiced, and easily one of the best I've had--comforting without being too heavy. The pakora came out crisp and flavorful, not greasy at all, and the tandoori chicken had that ideal smoky char while still staying juicy inside. What really made the experience stand out, though, was the service. Simmy was exceptional--attentive without hovering, genuinely warm, and clearly cared about making sure everything was perfect. We Had such a phenomenal dinner here! For over 40 years, Bombay Palace has been serving up delicious Indian food in their charcoal oven. Their sag paneer was the best I have ever had: they told us the secret was added mustard greens, which made the flavors truly Stand out. The fish tikka was brimming with flavor, as was the tandoori chicken, eggplant dish, naan, and more. Wonderful service, and Beautiful ambiance. this is a nice place to bring a group or even a date. We have eaten at Indian restaurants all over the world, and Bombay Palace is an institution when it comes to excelling at real Northern Indian dishes. It's not dumbed down, there's no tofu, or coconut oil, or trying to westernize the palette. Ironically, it's also not overly spiced, or what you may see at fast food Indian restaurants that food is greasy and dripping in oil or butter. We celebrated a birthday, and our 3 year old who is super picky, probably ate the most in her life. The host and hostess were warm, made excellent recommendations, accommodated to my granny's dietary needs and personally attended to every table. The ambience is haute couture, and every dish is made fresh. This means sometimes dishes can take time. Many restaurants have stock sauces that they use for all their dishes that are pre-made, or microwave their breads or rice. The owner informed us that their chefs have been there since 40 years, at the same location. We started with some excellent paneer tikka on skewers that are mildly spiced but packed with flavor served with a savory green cilantro and a sweet tamarind chutney. Our kid loved it (after we removed all the marinade), and ate it with some fresh cumin basmati rice and mango lassi. For the main course, we ordered some silky daal makhani (cooked overnight on a low simmer), paneer makhani and okra. All 3 entrees were flavored really well, but mildly spiced. We were surprised how little oil or butter was used, and how the okra was cooked perfectly, with no starchy slime. We paired all the main course entrees with lachha (multi layered) parathas and garlic naan. It tasted fresh and was cooked expertly, without being burnt or being undercooked. Finally, the host brought a carrot cake with pistachio and creamy ice cream on top and a sparkler that flared up for a minute. We also had the Indian donut in syrup (gulab jamun) and some excellent kulfi (Indian ice cream) in mango and pistachio flavor. The food isn't cheap. As the owners explained, they use the finest ingredients and pay their staff very well. They were also candid about the negative reviews and explained how hard it is to run a fine dining restaurant, where despite your best effort, there's always someone having a bad day. If you are looking for a place that serves classical Indian food, that's refined, using the highest quality ingredients, and looking for an elevated experience, Bombay Palace is one of the best Indian restaurants in Southern California. NO WAY BOMBAY! DO NOT GO HERE! GO ANYWHERE ELSE. If you ignore this warning and go anyway MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR CHECK! We had some friends in town. They love Indian food. We usually go to Flavor Of India on Sunset Blvd but we thought let's try somewhere new. We'll call this first mistake. When we arrived the place was almost empty. Not a good sign, but hey we're here, so let's do this. That was mistake #2. I don't mind paying high prices for good food... but I DO MIND BEING OVER CHARGED, being CHARGED TWICE for some dishes and having a 20% SERVICE CHARGE added to my bill. WHICH BY THE WAY - IS AGAINST THE LAW! -- Restaurants will no longer be able to charge service fees and will instead have to fold the charges into its menu prices. Starting July 1, 2024 restaurants in California will no longer be able to add service charges or other surcharges to your check. -- (don't believe me? Google it) Hey if you have $24 dollars to spend on 2 bottles of Ginger Beer then knock yourself out. Did you catch that? 2 bottles of ginger beer. 24 dollars. That's 12 dollars each. I could get a great bottle of wine for $24 bucks -- and then get drunk enough not to see I'm being OVER CHARGED by the fine folks at BOMBAY PALACE. - You may be asking "But hey, how was the food?" Answer: It was OK, it was good but far from great and even further from anything special. Also be aware THEY USE MSG. - Yes you do. Ok so the bill comes and it's like $260 dollars. Yep - 4 people - two hundred and sixty dollars. And that's before the tip. So as I'm getting ready to add a tip - which would bring it to around $312.00 - my son says "Wow that seems like a lot. Can I see the bill?" - And that's when it all came tumbling down. Needless to say, after seeing the service charge, i did not add an additional tip. So what have we learned? We should have just gone to Flavor Of India. They're the best. If you're still reading this - I'm begging you to not go to BOMBAY PALCE. You will regret it if you do. An upside Indian restaurant in Beverly Hills with a very nice interior. It is very clean and beautifully decorated. Metered street parking in front of restaurant. Went to lunch here with a friend. I ordered a chicken entree with nan and a side of samosa. Service was fast. Plating was very pretty. Serving was big as we were able to share the entree and still got full. We were satisfied with the food but here's what soured our experience. Customer came in and wanted to dine here. Since it's their first time, they asked a few questions but was told off by an older lady who I believed was the owner. The rudeness, although not directed to us, made us uncomfortable. The food is AMAZING. Seriously. My husband and I have been to almost every Indian restaurant in LA and we've eaten all over India and beyond. This is one of the best places we've tried. The bhindi, the paneer (Matar, tikka and shahi and butter) are delicious. The paratha, naan and roti are as fresh as it gets. Jeera rice was the best I've ever had. The bhindi was also the best I've ever had. It's hard to put into words but you just go try it. It's refined, it's a nice night out on the town and worth every penny. Response to Owners comment, You claimed to have spoken to us politely, but that is not true--we both know Deep insulted our family and told us to leave. When you came to clear our dishes, while you didn't raise voice, your words were rude and insulting. When we asked about the man who had been sitting in a booth all night while you tended to the tables, you simply stated, "The owner." We wanted to speak with him, but he didn't have the courage to come back. Instead, he chose to stop the father and child on their way out of the restaurant. You also claimed we were "negligent" and continued eating while the child cried. As responsible adults, we understand basic decency. We took turns stepping outside with the child, but after a traumatic incident, a 14-month-old is naturally going to cry. We brought him back inside only to rotate chaperones and provide him with warmth from the cold weather outside and were on our way out with the child, when the exchange of words occurred with Deep. As for the supposed complaints from other customers, that doesn't seem accurate. The only group seated near us--a group of uncles and aunties--was smiling and showing concern when the child started crying. The only person who appeared upset was Deep, who had been sitting in a booth all night while you attended to the customers, which included us, a party of seven next to us, a couple, and a group of four people. If you want top notch quality Indian food with an upscale vibey atmosphere (think mood lighting, beautiful bar, candles, high ceilings), this is the spot!! We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, Malai Kofta, and Malai Kabob (fave!) and everything was perfectly spiced, flavorful, and extremely satisfying. Our waitress was fantastic and recommended the Malai Kabob--grilled white meat chicken cooked in cheese, which came sizzling hot--it was one of the best things I've ever tasted. Where do I begin. The man who seated us was rude; completely ignored our friendly conversation. The young woman who asked us if we wanted sparkling or still water, 30 seconds after we were seated, seemed annoyed that we didn't want paid water. The third person who finally took our order after 10 more minutes of sitting, an older woman, was also very rude. When I asked for more water she seemed angry that I asked and never brought it. The food was bad too. I kid you not - Trader Joe's frozen chicken tikka masala is better than this place. Further, a very small portion for $27. The $30 lamb biryani was better but not amazing. Cherry on top: with the worst restaurant service I've received in memory, they automatically took a 20% service charge. Party of 4... never coming here again due to shadiness. The gratuity was automatically added at 20% WITHOUT ASKING OR LETTING US KNOW. The owner said it's added automatically. EVERYONE BEWARE!!!! because they added tax on the gratuity too!!! So they MAKE You TIP 25%. What's worse is our party of 4 is all Indian, and the food wasn't good. They charged sales tax onto the gratuity. How shady, and the owner said "since we call it a service charge we are allowed to charge sales tax on ur tip per my accountant." She literally told me that. The woman helping us I think was one of the owners and she was so sweet and kind and made it such a wonderful experience for us. Good food, but I think it's comparable to a lot of Indian restaurants. You're paying for the location and the nice décor. My friend and I had the Palace Feast (Tandoori chicken, shammi kabab, sekh kebab, saag gosht, chicken tikka masala, cauliflower and potatoes, creamed lentils, pulao rice, naan bread, raita, and gulab jamun). It was plenty of food for 2 people. My personal favorite was the masala, and chicken Tandoori. Both are my go to dishes whenever I have Indian food. The décor is lovely. I'm not sure if they recently remodeled or not, since I've never been. I'd say the service is decent, but not overly friendly. I'm guessing it's family run and owned. I saw a few regulars, as they were chatting it up with the same server waiting on us. There were Indian folks dinning here, so I'll trust that it's good food. There was parking on the side streets and in front of the restaurant. No need to park at a meter though, there's plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant. read more

We love this place and the food is amazing. Whether you dine in or take it home - the food is always spot on.

I ate too much and don't regret it. So much flavor in every dish. Each dish is carefully spiced (so that all the dishes don't taste the same). I have not eaten here in a couple years and forgot how deliciously, perfectly spiced their Bainghan Bharta (amazing eggplant dish), Onion Kulcha (nan stuffed with cooked onion), Dal (lentils.. these are not your ordinary lumpy lentils...these are delicious) and Chana (chickpeas). Along side the appetizers, in our case we had traditional Veg-Samosa's they serve a little dish of marinated carrots in an oil and spice mixture that uniquely wonderful. During covid they have a few tables on the sidewalk, with heat lamps. The staff and owners are gracious and friendly. Prices are a little higher, but it was superior to other places I've tried around LA. read more

We (wife, daughter and I) have been to this restaurant 5-6 times in last 1+ year for their excellent food quality. Yesterday it was anything but that. The veg platter was stuffed with onions (cheapest vegetable) instead of paneer, broccoli, bell pepper portions that they would normally put. The yellow lentil and channa masala were very small portions. On top of that, all the food was lukewarm. When I told the young lady who served our table, her excuse was the food got cold from the time it was cooked to the table. They add 20% service charge. In general, all their dishes are expensive ($19 for lentils, $26 for platter as example). But the price didn't justify the quantity, quality of food at all. Cutting the corners on top of expensive menu items won't serve them any good. They definitely have lost our patronage. Last but not the least, didnt get a feeling of any welcome or warmth. They had really gray good, authentic statues- and catered to a no garlic preference for some on our party. The service is personal and friendly. I've been to this place quite a few times, but after our last encounter, I will never return. I consider myself a relatively easy reviewer, and give mostly 4 and 5 star reviews. I have never been so rudely treated as I was at this restaurant this past weekend. This is perhaps because the owner (husband of the husband and wife) had never been there during my past visits. We made reservations ahead of time (2 weeks in advance) for our party of 8. This is not even the the type of place to typically require reservations (every other time I've been we have been one of 2-3 tables filled in the entire restaurant). We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation. There was a group who had entered before us (who did not have a reservation, and did not have their full party there). The owner proceeded to try and seat them at an empty table (that I later found out was reserved for us). As he was doing so, his wife (who is usually the one who runs the show) yelled at him that the table was reserved for us. He shooed her away and proceeded to seat the group (of 4 at the time), at the table reserved for us. When he came back he told us "you'll have to wait until a table leaves". When I explained to him that we had a reservation, he got extremely aggressive and told me "I'll seat you when a table opens up". He then incorrectly assumed our full party wasn't there and said "no where in LA will seat you without your full party" (yet he had just seated a party of 8 with half of them not yet arrived). I pointed out the fact that our entire party was indeed there, and he had also seated the party in front of us without their full group. He then became even more rude and aggressive. His wife clearly knew he was in the wrong and kept looking over at us, but must have been too intimidated by him to say anything. He then told me "I've been in the service industry for 40 years, you don't know anything." This was the final straw for me. I have never been so disrespected by a restaurant, waiter, manager, or owner. I will never give this place my business again. The food is solid, but nowhere near worth the experience we had. Rip off and shady business practices. We ordered fish tikka masala and, for $38, we received what was essentially an appetizer portion. We wanted extra rice and asked if we could get a half order. The manager said "absolutely". We received less than a half order and they charged us for a full order. Finally, they added a 20% service charge, and, when we went to sign the bill, they requested that we tip in addition to the service charge. The kicker is that they sneakily removed the version of the receipt that contained the 20% service charge in the hopes that we wouldn't notice. Very shady people who are nickel and diming customers because they barely get any customers (as the place is almost always empty). Never coming back here again. read more

Unfortunately, I did not get to try the food. I experienced a stunning rejection when I entered what seemed to be a lovely, spacious restaurant. It was mostly empty, just one couple in a corner on the right side as I entered with my licensed service animal, and I sensed another small party on the left side of the restaurant. A middle aged, short, heavy set woman approached me to ask what I wanted. I use ASL to communicate and gestured that I wanted to eat. She asked me if I had a reservation. I shook my head no, but the place was virtually empty. She then said, "We only do business by reservation." I gestured to the numerous empty tables, shocked by her discourtesy. Without another word, she turned her back on me and walked off. Another employee, a man hanging out near the door to the kitchen, witnessed this and didn't even acknowledge my presence. I turned and left. What a horrible experience. The hospitality at most Indian restaurants is legendary, so warm and welcoming. This place is an exception to that. I recommend you find another Indian restaurant and shun this place, with employees who are so disrespectful, rude and arrogant. read more
