The VERY BEST SEAFOOD east of Santa Monica / Venice / Malibu / Long Beach & arguably anything you'll find near the Pacific Coast. If you haven't been to Connie & Ted's you're going to want to book a reservation before they close at the end of this month. FOOD: Chef's Dozen Oysters - 9.5 / 10 You know that you are at a legitimate seafood restaurant when they disclose the source of their seafood. In this case, 2 each of: Laguna, Baja; Phantom Creek, BC; Shigoku, WA, Schoodic, ME; East Cape, PEI; Olde Salt, VA. An an oyster-lover, this IS the dish. Each varying in size, with their own various & subtle degrees of brininess. The accompanying mignonette sauce, horse radish, lemon, & tabasco make this the quintessential oyster platter, if you were ever going to have just one platter of oysters in your life, this should arguably be in the conversation. Santa Barbara Live Sea Urchin - 9.4 / 10 As my first outing with sea urchin, I don't think that it could have gone any better. If you've never had it, this is the place to try it. Simply put: butter that tastes like the ocean. Spread it on the buttered crostini & you're as close to sea godliness as one could possibly be. Jonah Crab Cake - 8.0 / 10 It's a decent crab cake. You can tell that they use real, quality crab. I wouldn't necessarily get it again just because there are so many other options. But delicious nonetheless. The cole slaw was cool, not-too-creamy, crisp, refreshing, crunchy, & just the right balance of sweet & sour. Hot Lobster Roll (served warm with butter) - 9.2 / 10 Quite possibly the best lobster that I've ever had. They really don't skimp out on the lobster. Just to give you an idea, I split this with someone else & I still felt like I had a lot of lobster. Like big, real, identifiable pieces of tail & claw. The warm, brioche-like long-style bun was perfectly toasted & held-up well. The accompanying side of french fries was very generous. We split it between 2 people & a half portion felt like more than what I get as 1 single order at other places. They were piping hot, fresh, crispy & not oily at all. They were pretty impressive for an order of french fries. DESSERT Peach Sorbet - 9.0 / 10 As a peach dessert lover, this hit the spot. Talk about a perfect palette-cleanser. Not-too peachy. The consistency was just right - hard enough, but not-too cold to give you a brain freeze. The portion is very generous. A little goes a long way, so this is perfect for sharing. Sour Cherry Sorbet - 9.5 / 10 I absolutely love when places serve flavors that are not as common. Sour is such an underrated flavor for desserts. This gives you so many flavor profiles at once. The sour works very well with the sweet. This easily edges out the peach sorbet. I'd definitely get this again. Whoopie Pie - 8.6 / 10 I took this for to-go & chilled it in the fridge for the next day's dessert. Easily sharable. The chocolate cake exterior were moist, thick, & chocolatey. The crème was quite solid + thick, which I believe is due to the classic marshmallow fluff component. Huge, huge, huge, shoutout to our server, Lawrence. You can tell that he is beyond proud to be part of the family here. Personally, I really feel that I lucked-out with him. If "hospitality" was a person, it would be him. He didn't hesitate at meeting any accommodation, answering any question, checking-in more than what anyone would consider "adequate". As we had a later reservation (closer to closing time), he never once made us feel rushed, which I very much appreciated. Also, shoutout to Randi on the phone for being so flexible in accommodating my party with a last-minute adjustment. I'm going to miss this place once it's gone. I'm just glad that I have another reservation set before it closes at the end of the month. Thank you, Connie & Ted's.

every dish that comes to the pass looks amazing

This restaurant has always been one of my favorites in town, especially for brunch. I am so saddened by it's planned closing at the end of this month. However, I understand today's market and economic forces that make it hard to maintain this level of quality. Our recent brunch included all the greatest hits - for me the Rhode Island clam chowder with clear broth (no cream), clam stuffies which are mixed and baked in the clam shells. My entree was my favorite brunch dish there - the peeky toe and lobster omelette with a citrussy beurre blanc sauce filled with chives. Just perfect. It comes with toast and a slice of lemon. My meal companions also ordered lobster rolls (warm) and the same omelette as well as a salmon hash and onion rings. We all shared the strawberry bun for dessert and you really can't go wrong with Harry's Berries on top. The service was very strong as always. Friendly and helpful suggestions from attentive staff. I noticed the servers wait at the pass and take the food out the moment it's ready. Nothing sits there at all. It is always a treat to get a quick chat and hello with chef/owner Michael Cimarusti. He is so humble and friendly. It was a pleasure watching him prep fish and later expedite in the kitchen. I really look forwared to returning to his Michelin star Providence and any future projects he embarks on in town.

Manila clams with marinara

This is an update to my review from 9 years ago and my experience tonight as they are ending their run was as great as the previous ones. Food, service and ambiance hit every mark. Maybe LA doesn't deserve these spots that pay such attention to every detail that we can't support them and they leave us. I know it's more a sign of the current times but sad whatever the reason. Had a great solo experience at the bar tonight that started with happy hour drinks and a mini lobster roll that continued on to dinner with steamed manilla clams in white wine and herbed crostini. Everything was chefs kiss on every level. I hope to come back a few more times before they close (but aren't forgotten). Thank you for your dedication to the craft of New England fresh and premium fish and seafood. Connie and Ted would be so proud.

Heartbroken that this place is closing Connie and Ted's was one of those rare LA gems that genuinely transported you to the East Coast without ever leaving the city. This was our go-to for lobster rolls, steamers, and an impressive raw bar featuring both East and West Coast oysters. The variety and quality were consistently on point. The Santa Barbara uni was a treat every time, delicate and fresh, and the raw clams were equally stellar. It's the kind of seafood spread that's hard to find done this well in LA. To the entire team: thank you for years of incredible meals and memories. You will be deeply missed. Wishing everyone all the best on whatever comes next.

Blondie

My wife and I have been coming to Connie and Ted's for years now, and we had a reservation this past Saturday before we knew of the July 1 closure. To say we are devastated is an understatement. Connie and Ted's was both our "just because" and our special occasion dinner spot. We came here all the time when we wanted something fresh, clean, new, and delicious. We loved their rotating specials and fish of the day (although I would always default to the monkfish whenever it was in the menu). Well, our last visit this past Saturday was memorable, and just as good (if not better) as our previous visits. We started off with some oysters, got the New England clam chowder, Parker rolls to dip them in, and my wife got the Saturday New England Boil Dinner special, and I got my monkfish. Everything was impeccable. And we had to finish the night with one of our favorite desserts in the city, the blondie. We'll miss this place, and we wish the best for the owners in their new endeavors. Hopefully they reopen in the future, because there will be a Connie and Ted's shaped hole in our hearts (and stomach).

The food at Connie and Ted's is to die for. The seafood especially. You have to try the uni. I loved the fish and chips. The ambience was great. It is kid friendly but I prefer the experience with adults too. The service was top notch and I cannot thank our eater enough for being so patient with my nice. The blonde is the best thing I have ever tasted. Sadly they are closing in July. Must try!

Fall Spiced Cake (poached persimmons and spiced caramel sauce, a la mode with butterscotch ice cream)

Having eaten at 2* Michelin-Star Providence (then 1*) a decade ago and really enjoying it, I was intrigued by this off-shoot upscale seafood shack created by the same owner, especially after reading The Infatuation article. My foodie friend's friends had said this place was overrated but I wanted to try it for myself. I'm glad I did, because this restaurant was amazing and I'd gladly return again. I came here for Sunday brunch with a reservation with my friend and was promptly seated in the covered outdoor patio. The busboys were super attentive & friendly, refilling our water glasses, taking away plates, and even replacing the paper coaster without prompting. Jo's Wicked Good Chowda' - I got the sampler which includes New England, Manhattan, & Rhode Island clear. Manhattan was hearty, rich in tomato. Rhode Island clear reminded me of savory ramen broth. New England was creamy yet light. All 3 were delicious but New England edges out for the win in my opinion. House-Smoked Fish Dip - This was delicious! The soft house-made saltines were a perfect complement to the smoky flavor-packed fish. I would order this again. Live Santa Barbara sea urchin (uni) - Served with mini slices of buttered toast, this dish was decadent and yummy. The uni definitely tasted naturally sweet and fresh. I would order this again. Fresh raw oysters (MP; $4 each) - I ordered the Pacific Plump & Kumamoto oysters. It seems that the size of Kumamotos are just tiny regardless of where I buy them, so I can't fault the restaurant. The Pacific Plump was a nice size; I would get this again. Stuffies - This was just OK; did not stand out in my opinion, and the mix seemed too 'bready'. Grilled Catch of the Day (MP; $42) - I read that the seafood/fish are flown in fresh daily. I ordered the wild-caught monkfish, served with herb oil. The entree comes with any side so I picked cauliflower. The monkfish was firm yet moist; this type of fish is my friend's favorite and he said that it was cooked perfectly. The cauliflower was unique; I've never seen one in those colors or shape before. It was softly crispy from being fried. My friend thought it was a little too oily and thought it would be better broiled/roasted instead. Fresh Maine Lobster Roll - I ordered it hot with drawn butter, along with side of potato salad. Lobster was fresh and the bread soft; no complaints. I usually like potato salad but this fell flat; it's hard to describe exactly why I didn't care for it (Maybe it could've used some crunch like celery?), but I do remember that the horseradish was quite strong. Fall Spiced Cake - Very tasty but the taste of persimmons is usually mild and unfortunately I could not taste it at all in this dish so it felt like an afterthought that could be easily replaced with another fruit like winter pear, which is a shame because I love persimmons. I would still get this dish again, though. In all, this meal was ~2 hours long and cost us almost $300 total for the 2 of us. Yes, it was quite pricey, but I think if you are wanting to go to a seafood restaurant with good quality food and service, this would be a great choice for a special occasion.

Connie & Ted's is beautifully decorated with both ample indoor and outdoor seating. There is paid parking right in front of the lot, but street parking is also available. We came for lunch on a Sunday and were able to find street parking without any issues. The restaurant was pretty busy, yet there were still a few seats open. We were warmly welcomed and seated immediately. Drink orders were taken right away, and our waitress came shortly after to take our food order. While there isn't a kids menu, they were very accommodating. I really appreciated that they asked about any allergy restrictions in our party--it was noted and even showed up on the receipt, which made me feel well taken care of. We ordered a variety of dishes to try, starting with the half dozen chef's choice oysters. When the tray arrived, it came with a paper noting where each oyster was sourced from--such a nice touch. They tasted incredibly fresh. We also ordered the clam chowder flight, and all versions were delicious. The crab cake was delightful and paired perfectly with the coleslaw. For the kids, we ordered buttered pasta, a side of fries, and steak--and they devoured the steak! It was cooked perfectly and literally melted in your mouth. The buttered pasta portion was HUGE--my son could only finish half, but he enjoyed every bite. We also ordered the fish stew and lobster roll, which took a while to come out. I honestly thought the order may have been forgotten, but when I asked, our waitress explained she was waiting for us to finish some of the smaller dishes so there would be room on the table. Once it arrived, the wait was completely worth it. The fish stew was SO delicious--the broth wasn't too salty, and the clams and mussels were cooked perfectly. They melted in my mouth. I could honestly do without the sausages but it was a good option. You truly couldn't bother me at that point. It came with perfectly toasted garlic bread that paired beautifully with the stew. The lobster roll was just okay for me--the fish stew completely stole the show. I would absolutely come back just for that dish alone.

One of my favorite restaurants for 13 years. Thank you for everything, Connie & Ted's. We will miss your food, your patio, and your awesome staff! Ugh! Never enough lobster rolls, oysters, burgers and blondies!

Truly my favorite restaurant in all of LA and heartbroken that it is closing! Glad we can enjoy it for a couple more weeks!

As someone who loves both stew and seafood I had to try Ed's Portuguese stew. The fish was cooked perfectly and quite flakey "Catch of the day" is not an exaggeration. Finding out that Michael the guy behind Providence is also behind this joint and it really shows in the quality of the seafood. Super cool he paid respect to his grandparents by naming a restaurant after them. I'll have to go back and try the oysters sometime.

Lauryn T.

The oysters were yummy. They are on the higher side of price. The whitefish was pretty good. Very small piece. The spinach was just wet and bland. Slightly soggy with absolutely no flavor. I make better spinach at home. The blondie was probably the best thing but its ice cream and a blondie. You can't really mess those up. Inside its kind of like a cafeteria. No need to dress up more of a casual vibe. The service was good very attentive and fast. I wouldn't say this place is super memorable or has stand out food so I don't necessarily think I would be back.

I'm a sucker for a good oyster spot, and they had a great variety of them. The oysters were nice and fresh, the scallops as well. I do wish that the scallop appetizer had a little more acidity and salt but nothing I couldn't fix myself. The lobster roll was very tasty and my steak was cooked perfectly and drowned in butter. I do wish that they carried A1 sauce, even though a good steak doesn't need it. The chowder sampler was yummy as . The fried clams were really good. It was a bit loud in there and our waitress was pretty slow. I had to wave her down a few times for drinks. All in all not a bad place definitely will come back to try more oysters if I'm in the area.

He was informative about our selections giving honest feedback and attentive to the needs of our group. I will say the food not inexpensive but what food really is these days. We ordered a plethora of dishes. Starting with the tuna neck tin. While I'm new to the tin game, I couldn't imagine what a $90 tin tasted like, now I know and I'm not sure I can eat anything less. Appetizers we started with the baked scallop special with chorizo, the caviar fries and the caviar dip. The baked scallop was delicious and the cause dip with the salt vinegar chips was fantastic. I could still dip more chips in that dish. I chose between the mussels and the fried fish sandwich. Alex recommended the fish not because it was better than the mussels. But because you just can't get a fried fish sandwich like theirs. I agree. The fry breading they have is top notch and the size of the sandwich literally has me full still 7 hours later. I substituted the fries for a lightly dressed side salad and loved it all. Besides, other folks had chips and fries to share. Other dishes were the fried and cold lobster rolls. The bagel breakfast plate and fish and chips. We even got dessert which was the pistachios tiramisu and the strawberry cake. Both good but the tiramisu was next level. All washed down with a winter sangria Maybe that's why I am still full. See you again, saltie girl.

The first bite gives you that textbook contrast chefs chase: a thin, savory Maillard snap, then cool, silky flesh that still tastes of the sea rather than smoke, which tells me it was hit hard over heat to render the skin and pulled off at the precise moment before the proteins tightened. Grilled lemon halves, their edges caramelized, are doing real work here--squeezes of that charred citrus cut through the fish's natural oiliness--while the thin ribbons of pickled red onion and peppery microgreens supply the bright, acidic punctuation that keeps the palate moving. Slices of avocado act as a soft, creamy foil, lengthening the finish without smothering the fish, and the halved cherry‑tomato salad looks lightly dressed so you get clean sweetness and a crisp counterpoint rather than a soggy, overdressed side. From a technical standpoint I appreciate the fundamentals: even scoring or oiling of the skin to prevent sticking, careful timing so the flakes separate cleanly, and a sparing hand with seasoning so the brine of the fish isn't lost under salt or heavy sauces. Many places feel compelled to gild seafood with every trendy condiment; here, the restraint is refreshing and, frankly, rarer than it should be. Service matched the cooking: friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to steer us through the menu with solid recommendations, which matters when a kitchen is doing delicious things well. The restaurant itself is calm and clean, a peaceful setting with a bar that lets the food speak, and last time I was there they were in the process of securing a beer and wine license--good news, because this kind of balanced, grill‑forward cooking benefits from a thoughtful pour. In short, this meal stands out because it trusts the ingredient: confident grilling, smart acid, and honest accompaniments that clarify rather than compete, leaving you satisfied and already thinking about the next visit. As for the house-made salsa: stainless ramekins on a white plate, each with its own tiny spoon - bright yellow emulsion, lacquered dark reduction, smoky-red chile purée, and a chunky herb relish. The emulsion is silky and tangy, perfect for cutting fat; the dark sauce is sticky, umami-forward and built to cling; the red one carries smoke on oil and is medium-hot; the relish snaps with fresh acid and crunch. Important heads-up: one of these is a ghost-pepper style salsa - extremely spicy, slow-building and long-lingering, so use it as a finish, not a dunk. Execution is tidy: no broken emulsion, measured viscosities, portioned so flavors don't bleed - practical, disciplined work. In an era of one-trick "house sauce" laziness, this quartet gives you tools, not excuses, and it elevates whatever's on the grill without stealing the show. I'll definitely be back here!
