    Maryland Jumbo Lump Crab Cake

Came here for a girls night out and overall had a really good experience. The decor is beautiful and the lighting creates the perfect ambiance. One thing we all appreciated was that the music wasn't too loud, so we could actually enjoy conversation without shouting over each other. Service was a bit slow at times. Our appetizers came out in about 20 minutes, but there was a noticeable wait for the entrees. It felt like other tables were being seated, served, and leaving while we were still waiting. That said, we stayed patient and the crab cakes and Mediterranean salad were delicious and held us over. Once the entrees arrived, everything was well worth it. We ordered the shrimp with potatoes, lobster pasta, and lamb chops, and each dish was cooked really well and full of flavor. The staff was also very attentive when it came to drinks and checking in on anything we needed. Overall, it was a good experience and a great spot for a night out with friends.

I will start with the Ambiance. We went shopping in Beverly Hills and decided to stop to find a good lunch spot. We hit the jackpot with this place. The starter hummus was great. Cocktails from the bar were perfect. We ordered lamb chops, a salad , and spaghetti and clams in a white sauce. I highly recommended this restaurant if you are looking for fresh mediterranean food.

We went to this place for lunch, and they had a special three-course fixed-price menu for about $40. Not sure if that's a constant thing or just for Dine LA week. I like how when we sat down, they brought us a bunch of appetizers, including crudités, a plate of hummus, and some bread. I also noticed they have their own branded olive oil on the table. We noticed people ordering this appetizer that looked like a stack of fried eggplant, which looked delicious, but we figured with the three-course meal, we wouldn't have room (which was correct). I got the Greek salad, which was extremely fresh and delicious, still wondering how they got such flavorful tomatoes in winter. My entrée was the salmon, which was really good. We had to get the dessert packaged to go since we were so full from the first two courses. This seems like a good place to go to grab lunch if you are in the area. I felt the service was very gracious, and they checked on us a lot. The regular menu seems a little pricey - though I think part of what you are paying for is the ambiance. This place has a kind of fancy and trendy aura, and I was pretty sure some of those famous "Housewives" or wannabe Housewives were at the table nearby. I think it would be a good place to go to be seen but also has really good food!

    Best calamari I've ever had.

The ability for LA restaurants to truly wow me is about as rare as a Hollywood reboot that's actually better than the original. Then I got invited to a birthday dinner at Avra last week... and apparently, every once in a while, the reboot does outperform the original. At one point I literally heard myself say, "How did I miss this place after all these years?" I've lived in LA long enough to be a little jaded about new restaurant hype, but this one genuinely surprised me. The appetizers were phenomenal. First, the calamari. The secret to great calamari is delicacy- too much batter, too much salt, or a few extra seconds in the fryer and it turns into something you'd expect from a mall food court. Avra absolutely nailed it. Perfectly light, crisp, and tender. Our table of eight ended up ordering ten plates. The Avra chips were another standout. I've had plenty of zucchini chips before, but this version also included eggplant chips (which I normally detest). Somehow, the combination worked beautifully. The presentation was gorgeous and the flavor even better. Normally I'm polite when sharing appetizers... but that night I turned into a full-blown table barbarian (think Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones.... barbaric, but handsome... like me). They were that good. Then came the octopus, which honestly set a new personal standard for me. The thin slices had the perfect texture and flavor. If someone asked me what my last meal might be, Greek cuisine might now be the answer. The appetizers were so good they almost overshadowed the mains... mostly because we ate so much of them that we were already full by the time the entrees arrived. I went with the Dover sole, one of my personal favorites whenever I see it on a menu. It's a great test of a kitchen's restraint because the dish depends on subtlety and balance. Avra absolutely nailed the delicacy of the flavors. Easily one of the better versions I've had. Needless to say, I'll definitely be back, and next time I'm bringing the family. What a vibe. What a discovery.

After four years of coming to Avra, it is still my absolute favorite place to eat and drink in the area. We usually sit at the bar, even though the dining room is beautiful, because the bartenders are so amazing... professional, witty, hyper efficient, fun to talk to, and just plain nice people. Special kudos to Munir, who always greets us by name, makes time to chat, and remembers my very complicated cocktail. I highly recommend the scallops which are perfectly seared and come on a bed of sauté'd spinach, and the salmon with capers and grilled vegetables. The portions are perfect and quality is top notch. An added bonus of sitting at the bar is the people watching which never fails to entertain! It's pricy but well worth it.

The ambience was chic and classy with a Mediterranean vibe. It does kind of feel like the restaurants on the Greek islands except more high-end and without the ocean view. Food was overall delicious and flavorful. Every seafood dish we had was very fresh and excellent quality. We ordered grilled calamari and grilled octopus for starters and they were amazing. For entrees, we had Chilean sea bass. The fish was very tender and soft. What I didn't like was that there was too much tomato sauce drenched all over the fish. It would've been better to just add a little sauce on the bottom so that it doesn't overpower and mask the sea bass, which was supposed to be the highlight of this dish. Also, there were only two small pieces of potatoes underneath the fish. Cocktail drinks were refreshing and tasty. And the chocolate cake we had for dessert was decadent but really sweet and had more buttercream than actual cake. Service was outstanding. The entire staff was very attentive, friendly and quick. Busboys and waitstaff would walk around constantly to check on patrons, clean tables and refill water. I will come back to try other dishes.

Atmosphere: A bright and upscale place that is lively without feeling overwhelming. It has that clean Mediterranean vibe that makes it feel a little special the moment you walk in. Service: Attentive and smooth the whole way through. Everything came out very timely and the staff made the experience feel refined. Food & drink: We ordered the lunch special with the salmon tartare (the star of the show), the daily fish, and a cheesecake. The cocktails were great too, especially the hibiscus drink. Everything felt high quality without being overcomplicated.

I have eaten at Avra a couple of times now and I can only say it is a super solid place to eat. For Mediterranean seafood it's on par with the best you can get in LA. The vibe of the restaurant screams family scene which is always cool. I have yet been fortunate enough to sit inside the restaurant and both times have been seated on their outside ish patio area but nonetheless it has not presented any problems and once it was even raining. Having the option to go over to the ice tank and hear about all of the seafood specials and see them and pick your specific piece is always fun. If you choose not to go with one of those selections you can always order from the menu, which I have done as well. Their scallops are a hit! But the specialty fish are great options because it can change daily. The place is huge the menu is big, the drinks are delightful and the service is always solid. You can never go wrong ending your meal with a butter cake IYKYK

Waited for about 30 minutes on a Sunday night for a party of two. Ambience was gorgeous with fish stands should you opt to purchase a fish to be cooked. We ordered the salmon tartare ($37), tuna ($59), and asparagus ($18) to share. Food did take awhile to come out (around 30 minutes between each entree) and we noticed other tables waiting as well. The complimentary hummus paired with their olive oil and chips were divine. The salmon topped with cilantro sauce was delicious but overtime it overpowered the salmon. Tuna and asparagus tasted standard. Overall, a nice experience.

The atmosphere, flavors, and location are all excellent, and the lunch prix-fixe menu is an incredible value! It's the place I always take guests when they visit. The seafood is especially fresh, and after the meal it's lovely to take a stroll in the small park right out front.

The hosts and management could honestly could be a bit less cold and callous, but i mean i get it... The wonderful bartenders make up for the few experiences I've encountered. Aside from that The food is great and so are the drinks! I love how well lit the restaurant is.

For years, it has been my absolute favorite restaurant in New York, so when it arrived in Beverly Hills, I was equal parts excited and nervous. Somehow, it lives up to the original. The seafood is exceptional, the pastas are unforgettable, and every dish feels like it belongs in a special occasion meal, even when you're just stopping in for dinner. The service is polished, attentive, and effortlessly elegant without ever feeling pretentious. There are plenty of trendy restaurants in Los Angeles, but Marea is something rarer: a restaurant that is genuinely excellent. The kind of place you find yourself thinking about days later and immediately planning your next visit. So please, if you go, be respectful. Order the pasta. Appreciate the seafood. Tip well. And try not to tell too many people...I'd like to keep getting a reservation. ;)

Everyone's favorite was Dungeness crab pappardelle and fusilli. Gnocchi was tasty, but not the best. Spaghetti with clams was very mediocre. Proteins - Their steak was vey tender, but the meat itself lacked flavor. Halibut was dry and didn't have any interesting flavor. So you can skip halibut for sure. Overall, I'd rate 3.5/5 for food. As for the service, it's 3/5 as they were decent enough, but not so attentive even though our drinks and water were empty. It's definitely good for date or business meal though as it has a nice ambiance. I'd give 4/5 for that. Would I come back? Sure, but I don't have to be a repeater of this restaurant to be honest as there are many other restaurants with similar quality (if not better) of food for more reasonable price.

The first bite gives you that textbook contrast chefs chase: a thin, savory Maillard snap, then cool, silky flesh that still tastes of the sea rather than smoke, which tells me it was hit hard over heat to render the skin and pulled off at the precise moment before the proteins tightened. Grilled lemon halves, their edges caramelized, are doing real work here--squeezes of that charred citrus cut through the fish's natural oiliness--while the thin ribbons of pickled red onion and peppery microgreens supply the bright, acidic punctuation that keeps the palate moving. Slices of avocado act as a soft, creamy foil, lengthening the finish without smothering the fish, and the halved cherry‑tomato salad looks lightly dressed so you get clean sweetness and a crisp counterpoint rather than a soggy, overdressed side. From a technical standpoint I appreciate the fundamentals: even scoring or oiling of the skin to prevent sticking, careful timing so the flakes separate cleanly, and a sparing hand with seasoning so the brine of the fish isn't lost under salt or heavy sauces. Many places feel compelled to gild seafood with every trendy condiment; here, the restraint is refreshing and, frankly, rarer than it should be. Service matched the cooking: friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to steer us through the menu with solid recommendations, which matters when a kitchen is doing delicious things well. The restaurant itself is calm and clean, a peaceful setting with a bar that lets the food speak, and last time I was there they were in the process of securing a beer and wine license--good news, because this kind of balanced, grill‑forward cooking benefits from a thoughtful pour. In short, this meal stands out because it trusts the ingredient: confident grilling, smart acid, and honest accompaniments that clarify rather than compete, leaving you satisfied and already thinking about the next visit. As for the house-made salsa: stainless ramekins on a white plate, each with its own tiny spoon - bright yellow emulsion, lacquered dark reduction, smoky-red chile purée, and a chunky herb relish. The emulsion is silky and tangy, perfect for cutting fat; the dark sauce is sticky, umami-forward and built to cling; the red one carries smoke on oil and is medium-hot; the relish snaps with fresh acid and crunch. Important heads-up: one of these is a ghost-pepper style salsa - extremely spicy, slow-building and long-lingering, so use it as a finish, not a dunk. Execution is tidy: no broken emulsion, measured viscosities, portioned so flavors don't bleed - practical, disciplined work. In an era of one-trick "house sauce" laziness, this quartet gives you tools, not excuses, and it elevates whatever's on the grill without stealing the show. I'll definitely be back here!
