Went to Bomdama Shabu Shabu for their all you can eat hotpot on a Thursday night. It's not as large as the nearby Garden Shabu, but they do have a similar selection of meats and veggies. I like that for $3, you can get their split broth. I also like that they have beef broths available, instead of just pork or dashi. Service is quick, you have to place your meat orders with the staff. The rest of the items like noodles, fish cakes, and vegetables are self serve from the buffet. Dessert options include chocolate/vanilla ice cream, as well as some pastries. I especially liked their rice cake type pastry, which they even allowed me to take home! Hubby and I had a random Monday off, so we decided we'd go out to lunch to take advantage of weekday lunchtime pricing. Much to his dismay since he hates hot pot, I chose hot pot. Our party of five got there just before 1, and it was pretty empty except for a few tables. AYCE for weekday lunch with meat/seafood is $28.99. They also have some sushi (not very good because it's packed with rice), and a few cooked items as well. For meat, the waitress suggested the brisket and top blade (which are non-fatty), and it didn't disappoint. We also ordered fatty beef and lamb, which were good as well. The beef wasn't overly fatty, and the lamb didn't have that gamey taste that it can sometimes have. As for all the non-meat/seafood items, they are all self-serve. They've got a good selection of veggies, fish balls, and noodles. The sauce station was also good, and had everything you might want. For dessert, they have melona bars. Could have been nice if they had a soft serve machine. I wouldn't mind coming back during a dinner service to see if they have any expanded menu items available. read more

It's one of the only places I've seen that does both shabu shabu and sushi--and they actually do both really well. We went with the All You Can Eat option, which includes made-to-order nigiri, tons of fresh meat and seafood for your hot pot, and a big variety of noodles, dumplings, and veggies. Everything tasted super fresh, and the sukiyaki broth was definitely our favorite. They also offer a buffet option if you're not as hungry, but honestly, the AYCE is totally worth it. Major bonus: it's BYOB! We brought our own drinks, took our time, and had such a fun, relaxed night. The staff was friendly, the vibe was casual and welcoming, and the portions were generous. Food (5/5): Really amazing options available at this AYCE hotpot including sushi, tons of types of vegetables, meatballs, dumplings, and desserts. I was impressed how there were Maki rolls and nigiri rolls. The nigiri rolls were odd though because they didn't give us the amount we asked for and they said it's because the sushi chef has random limits the servers aren't even sure about. Also the nigiri was a bit warm and not as tasty as expected. Besides that the rest of the hotpot ingredients and food were great. The ribeye beef and pork belly were tasty with the sukiyaki hot pot broth. Service (4/5): Overall good and quick service. Only issue was the one regarding the sushi nigiri where they didn't give us the amount requested despite the amounts not even being that much (it was basically just one or two pieces of different nigiri per person). All you can eat shabu shabu says it all. Come hungry and eat everything that you can in 90 minutes! The broths are very good, cuts of meat are perfect and the self serve vegetables and dishes are fresh! We had a lot of hot pot and shabu shabu - this will be one of our regular spots going forward! There is a heavy emphasis on the vegetarian selection here- lots of vegetables, tofu, noodles to choose from. The meat cuts are very good as well! We got the beef bone broth and to be honest it was kinda bland. I had to use sauces from their sauce bar to enhance the flavor of the broth. The service was very fast! Don't come here if you're not Korean because there's an obvious difference in service by the Korean waitstaff, particularly ahjummas. The fish balls, fish cakes, fish tofu, and bean curd rolls also tasted of freezer burn, which was nasty. The fact that these items tasted "old" says a lot about the low quality and food safety at a restaurant that's been running for years. The sushi also tasted like it sat out for a long time with its extra firm rice grains. We had two Koreans within our group and one of them flagged down a Korean server to request tongs. She responded abruptly in English as she pointed to the sauce area, "You get up." Mind you, the restaurant was not busy, and we saw her later walk towards other tables full of older Koreans and talking to them politely in Korean. We don't mind getting items ourselves but the ahjummas spoke condescendingly and brushed us off as if we were bothering her. You might have noticed that many 5-star reviews are from Koreans and the people complaining about bad service are consistently non-Koreans. Interesting. read more

A great AYCE hotpot place with amazing service! It is very spacious and clean. There's two options - AYCE buffet and AYCE buffet + meats + seafood. The buffet has ready made foods like tteokbokki, fried chicken, jeon, and sushi as well as hotpot foods like vegetables, fish balls, noodles, dumplings, etc. If you don't eat too much meat and seafood, the buffet is more than enough - there are so many options. I appreciate they have various options appetizers such as all kind of tempuras, calamari, and cooked food. Fried chicken during lunch were dry and worst vs the dinner time. The fried calamari and fried chicken was delicious and most memorable. Ddukbokki and stir fried pork was cold. Cold food: options were meh. Some things were so old that it was dried up and curled over. Not as many odeng or vegetable options as garden shabu or shaburo. Weird odengs if anything that most Koreans would not like. Appreciated the OCD set up of odengs on their buffet display though. Broth: Chinese mala was more salty than spicy. I was super thirsty for the rest of the day. Overall, I don't think I will be revisiting this place. There is a time limit and have to pay extra if you go over. I don't like eating under pressure. My wife and I like Shabu, and we regularly visit spots in Fort Lee. We decided to give this new restaurant a try. Its open ceilings and white interior give it a good, sterile look. Selections are less than other known competitors in the area, but the ingredients seem fresh. Some items that came out (shrimp, etc.) had a nice presentation. Preferred? Not so sure. At last, had a chance to stop in for an early dinner to enjoy some Shabu / hot pot. Establishment was bright and clean. It was nice to be able to have the option to choose 2 different soup base, even for a single person pot for an additional $3. When ordering, there were different options than just veggie buffet or with unlimited meat. I opted in for the veggie buffet + meat and it was quite filling. There are a lot of cooked foods being served at the buffet court. Set up is slightly different than most of the shabu establishment around the area due to it's floorplan but, nevertheless, not a big deal. Just make sure you check out both sides of the veggie displays as they may have other options. Tried dashi & spicy garlic base. Hmmm...another Korean shabu/hotpot place in Pal Park, but still wanted to give it a shot because, hey, it might be the next best thing. It was not. It was just okay. Meh. ***In a rush? Skip to the end for my tips.*** Went on a Thursday night, so it wasn't too busy, but service wasn't that great. Had to constantly try to flag someone down or try to make eye contact to ask for something. My friend and I chose the buffet only option ($23.99) because we weren't sure we could eat that much meat and got a side of beef each ($6 each). However, they didn't give much meat and the meats shriveled into very tiny pieces once placed in the broth. Should've gotten the AYCE meat option. My friend got the mala broth and she really liked it because it was spicy and numbing like the real deal. I got the boring, safe dashi broth. I felt like the broth cooked faster here and I liked that they are placed more inside the table rather than at table level. They had a unique spicy garlic broth option, which sounded interesting. They had a few unique sauces that I never saw at other places. They even had the spicy Thai chilis. They didn't have any pre-made sauces that some other places have for indecisive people. Their hot food choices were limited and they didn't really pull me in - spicy rice cake, friend dumpling, shrimp fried rice, fried chicken, French fries. Like most buffet places, they had a soft serve machine with vanilla/chocolate flavors. They also had a freezer next to it that has Melona bars. Beautiful interior and a bit different in some ways from other hotpot places, but I don't think I'll be going back. I'll stick to going back to my usual spots. Tips: - Meter and street parking. In Pal Park, it's paid parking from 10am-9pm Monday-Saturday. Free on Sundays and legal holidays. - They have disposable aprons by the sauces, which is worth wearing if you tend to splash or spill food on yourself. - I was not a fan of the fact that one sauce section was a bit lower in height and not above hip level. Yes, convenient for short people to get sauces, but people are hovering over those sauces. - My veggie-loving friend said that there were more veggie choices than other places. - With the broths, what's cool is that for an extra $3, you can choose 2 different broths. - When you choose the Meat only or AYCE meat/seafood choice, you can only choose proteins from the Meats only or AYCE section. This is one of the better hotpot ayce places around, it has a little bit of everything including some korean sides that you dont get normally (wasabi octopus, spicey raw squid, perilla leaves), fried/cooked foods and of course sushi! I saw they had nigiri sushi about 7 months ago on yelp, but when I went there today, it was only prepped sushi rolls outside (kinda cold) so not sure if they no longer offer or have to order it specifically. The soft serve machine wasnt working :( and they dont have the korean ice cream bars anymore, just self scoop vanilla/chocolate. I've eaten this long enough lady.... Food - very minimal compared to the other shabu restaurants around here. They don't do a good job of filling things right away when it's near empty. Meat order takes years to come out for the refill and then the wrong ones come out. Hopefully they begin to improve on a lot of things. They have a wider range of ingredients than most hot pot places with lots of types of noodle that I don't normally see. The ingredients are fresh, especially the seafood.
