Unfortunately, all we had was a soda because after waiting for 20 minutes to order while we watched the chefs eat, our waiter deliver drinks 2 separate times and then deliver a togo to one of the other 3 tables of people before chatting them up while I went back to my vehicle to get cash so I could leave. There were only 4 tables. If the staff can't handle the volume, someone else should help. I can't speak for the food. But I did drop $5 cash for the soda since I wasn't planning on waiting for my check. read more

I've been here twice now, and both visits were great! The menu is extensive with a wide range of sushi options from basic, vegetable and specialty rolls to nigiri, ceviche and noodles. They even include photos for most rolls which is super helpful. Prices are fair, they always offer weekly specials, and their all-you-can-eat option is available any night after 4pm not just on weekends. The space itself isn't overly fancy but the excellent customer service more than makes up for it. The manager checked in on my experience both times, which I really appreciated. It's a bit of a drive from town, but if you're in the Bee Cave or Lakeway area this is hands down the best spot for sushi. read more

We popped in last minute after an event nearby. I usually don't love to be the customer that walks in 30 min before closing time but we were hungry and fast food didn't seem fun. We grabbed two rolls of sushi and a soft shell crab. I don't usually go for a soft shell crab but this was surprisingly good and well seasoned, the sauce that went with it was a nice touch! I had Dragon roll and my party had Dynamite roll (I think that was the name of it). Both were delicious and fresh despite it being such a late hour. The service was fast, efficient, and professional. I would like to come back and try more options that we didn't get to as it was mid week and late hour, we were trying to finish before the restaurant actually closes. read more

Located conveniently off the 620 and plenty of parking. Make sure you are parked out front instead of the back where we parked. Oddly, the back has a big lighted sign and looks like the entrance until you walk up to the door and see the sign that says "go around". We were seated right away on a Saturday evening with no reservations. It's a large restaurant and even has a room for private events. Our server came over right away and took our drink/appetizer orders. We started off with the Edamame and Seaweed Salad. The Edamame comes either with salt or truffles; we had the salt but wish they would offer a spicy version like most places do these days. The seaweed salad was a generous portion but was drowning in the dressing. Great dressing but just too much. For the sushi, we tried a few pieces of Tuna and Yellow Tail. The portions were very good and the fish was quite fresh. For rolls, we had a Philly Roll and a Sunset Roll. The Philly Roll was just okay; very little Salmon and the salmon wasn't great. It wasn't bad fish, but it was just "okay". For the Sunset Roll - salmon, shrimp tempura, crab and masago. This was a delicious roll! The service was good but a few things that were a bit unusual. We had to ask for soy sauce and when the server brought it out, he poured it but wouldn't leave the the container with us. The place certainly wasn't so busy they couldn't afford to let us have our own and pour as we felt rather than having to ask our server each time we wanted some soy sauce. Very odd. Overall, the service is good and the sushi is pretty fresh. I'm sure we will come back again. read more

Bon is a very modern, very Japanese venue off of 620 in Bee Cave. The restaurant itself is sharp, clean with impressive graphics and a massively intimidating menu. I need to qualify this in advance and admit that I've spent some time in Japan and love the country and its people. I've never been anywhere that the locals were more cordial and friendly. I also appreciate its cuisine and the cultural underpinnings of all that. I'm close to being a sushi and nigiri snob and would kill to find a place here that makes credible okanimayaki. Bon is a tension between presenting genuine Japanese cuisine and catering to the Americanized view of that. Witness an embarrassingly huge choice of rolls but also an impressive variety of nigiri and sashimi. Cutting to the chase, their nigiri is as fresh as you're going to get in landlocked Central Texas. The sake toro and the hamachi toro are just splendid and decadently large (no way to do them in one bite). Subtle, tender and with a well done rice base. I tried the unagi as an experiment that I won't do again. Frankly, I can't remember which of the myriad rolls I tried, but it was above decent. Sushi rolls are a nod to what Americans want and more a credit to the imagination of the local chef than an expression of Japanese. One companion was very pleased with her roll choices. The second, on the other hand, had an udon noodle soup. Now, we've been to Muragami, the udon noodle capital of the known universe. Udon noodle soups there are favored by god. The broth is the key, and each soup is an expression of its region and its cook. Bon's was subpar. Watery and lacking. That cost them a star (and almost two). As a choice for Japanese food in Bee Cave, you can't do better. Americanized or not. read more

Amazing to find a great sushi place in Lakeway. Needed some Japanese food after heavy Thanksgiving meals. Bon is hidden away in a mostly office plaza, but has a trendy feel and lots of space. Lots of unique rolls on the menu, even for a pregnant lady who needs cooked rolls. I ordered the baked salmon roll which came out hot and my husband got the Bon roll which was great after I scraped off the raw tuna bits. The tempura udon really hit the spot! Even though not traditional, I loved how they included brocolli, mushrooms, carrots into the broth in addition to the udon noodles. Service was absolutely delightful and attentive. Best service I've had in a restaurant in a long while. Highly recommend Bon if you are craving Japanese food. read more

You don't often find a sleek, modern eatery like this in the Lakeway/Bee Cave area, and the beaconlike sign called me in at last to this strip mall. (Note, you can only turn right onto 620 when you leave the parking lot, so plan your day accordingly.) I went for lunch and ordered a Chirashi bowl, which is my benchmark for sushi. It came with a solid miso soup and a salad with far too much ginger dressing, but edible enough. The bowl was beautifully presented, with a decent variety of fish. The tamago was a bit overcooked and the eel crisped to a fault, but otherwise fair enough. The big problem: The rice. It didn't taste like sushi rice but just like a big bowl of regular and completely unflavored white rice, which promply disintegrated into my soy sauce bowl. At the end of my meal, the sizikato was literally full of rice, which was a disappointment. I ended up treating the meal largely like a sashimi experience. All told it was a somewhat middling experience. Service is attentive and quick. No complaints there. My biggest issue, though: I thought the meal was pricey but paid the bill without comment. Not until I got home did I realize I was billed the dinner price ($30) for the lunch chirashi (should have been $23). Check your bill closely when you pay up to ensure you are paying for what you were served. read more

Second time here. The first time, the roll was not good but I did my best to eat it halfway and then I ordered something different because it was not good. I got the fried calamari. I still told the waitress I would be back because she was nice and attentive and I love sushi. I enjoy good service. This time, I ordered the Lakeway Roll and asked the guy about it. He said it wasn't his favorite, and now I understand why. I like scallions but the way they cooked them and topped the roll looked like worms, and the texture....it was disgusting. When he presented that to me it looked so bad. And before I ate it I said that looked so weird. I tried one bite and I did my best not to throw up. I was under the impression it would be cooked in my roll. I started looking at the menu for a different roll, like the last time. Not exactly good if you visit a place for a second time and still not like it. And the same nice waitress from my first trip came by. I was telling her that again I didn't like the roll but I was gonna look at something different. Well the owner or manager or whoever, he overheard and came by and said that's how they cook it and that I was more than welcome to order something else but he would still charge me for it because cost of food. Ummm what?! First off that's not what what I was saying. Which I understand because I used to run restaurants and familiar and of course, inflation. But for you to walk by and straight up assume that I want a free meal and tell me that you're charging me for it when that's not even what I was saying. I totally felt stereotyped. I've never been treated so rudely. Who are you to assume I can't pay for my meal? I live in the area, I can afford my meals. I was taking a relaxing dinner and that ruined it for me. Won't return. Advice: don't treat your customers like this when they were literally going to pay for something different. I walked out of there feeling embarrassed and humiliated. Gyoza and edamame were the best. The quality of the fish on the nigiri was like what you would find at other restaurants' chef's choice platters. Good but not nigiri good that melts in your mouth. Delicious sushi! I'm usually disappointed because almost every place I've tried tastes the same, is more of the same, and isn't as fresh. The rolls were on point, made with good quality fresh fish, the portions are generous without being a lot of thick pieces that barely fit in your mouth. You can also say that the soy sauce is of high quality and is not cheap because the waiter pours it into the small dish and does not leave the container on the table. We also ordered the fresh wasabi (completely another level). The service was good, the waiter was friendly, you can tell he doesn't have much experience, but he certainly did his best!
