I'm a fan of Bonchon but this location is very hit or miss in my experience. Usually order the Korea fried chicken bone-in or boneless half and half spicy and soy garlic. I'd suggest getting pickled radish with chicken. Best side is the potstickers which also come in different sauce flavors. Edamame and kimchi sides are just okay, which is interesting considering how simple they are. Didn't like the bibimbap or chicken katsu , rice was overcooked and chicken was flavorless. This is a bistro version of Korean food but it is surprisingly good, if not authentic. Christmas shopping at PG PLAZA leads to the inevitable chorus of "I'm hungry" from my kids who are always angling for a way to eat "out" food. After considering our options, we settled for Bonchon as likely a more healthy option. Wrong. We walked in and the lady had an attitude. Knowing Koreans like Jamaicans always have an attitude, I persevered in telling her that we needed a table for 7. The restaurant was totally empty as it was a Wednesday night, and her furrow dropped even lower when I told the kids no Thai teas or boba at 7pm as this was dinner not a treat and it was too much sugar lol. We ordered 16 wings with soy garlic and spicy sauce, Korean tacos, chicken fried rice, vegetarian udon noodle soup with mushroom, bulgogi bibimbap and a chicken bibimbap. The long and short of it was, the food was good and most people cleaned their plate. They don't have a kid's menu so I usually have my 14 yo daughter and 6yo son share an entree because she's picky and he's greedy. My 10yo son ordered chicken fried rice which was MASSIVE. I gave his sister and his brother some rice, and he also had some Wings and one of his sister's tacos. I heard not a peep as he devoured every bite. It was a quiet meal. We do a lot of chatting at the table normally and it wasn't that late! My 17 yo son-who eats like it's his full time job - couldn't finish his bulgogi bibimbap ( or so we thought). He asked for a box and then ate it all out of the to go box. The 10yo got an extra lunch out of the chicken fried rice even after sharing with his siblings and my oldest daughter (20) got 2 full meals from her spicy chicken bibimbap. There were rave reviews on the spicy wings, Korean tacos with both soy garlic and spicy chicken and the chicken bulgogi. My son who ordered the bulgogi didn't rave but he did fully make a glutton of himself, so I'd say that speaks for itself. I had the noodle soup and it was massive. It made a comfortable three meals for me and the broth was so nicely seasoned- it would be PERFECT for being sick and ordering carry away. Overall, I think the bad reviews are for the service. She was efficient, the food was plated beautifully and it was all good. The service at this Bonchon in hyattsville horrible I spent 55$ for chicken and couldn't even get a free ranch. They were an extra 1.50$ not even pre packed these are small cups they pour into, for 1.50$ that's horrible after spending 55$. To get home and my whole 6 piece was burnt to the meat. I never thought I would chip a tooth eating chicken but this here Horrible. We currently live in CA but my husband graduated from University of MD, and the DMV is home for us. I need a spot to host a surprise celebration and to gather our close family and friends. Bonchon was the perfect spot as I could order large portions and accommodate a large group of 60 people. Wendy was amazing. She answered all my questions and ensured that I was ordering the right amount of food. I ordered trays of rice, fries, japchae and soy garlic wings. It was the right amount for my group. Wendy and her staff ensured that my party was taken care of. She even offered to have pictures displayed on their tv screens while our party was going on. All in all, we had a great celebration with great food and company and thank you to bonchon, wendy and the staff for making sure the celebration went smoothly! LOL! Okay, hear me out - the reason I'm giving this location 1 star is simply due to the service. It was so bad that it really overshadowed everything else. We had a party of 4 at around 11am on a Thursday morning, and from the moment we walked in, the service was trash. The woman at the counter basically didn't speak, wasn't friendly, was exceptionally unapproachable the entire time, in every single encounter. She acted annoyed from the beginning (keep in mind that we were literally the only customers in the restaurant), and like she was extremely inconvenienced and she didn't want to serve us. Every response she gave came off that she was annoyed with serving us. Everything we asked/ordered was an inconvenience to her. She snatched the menus from us after ordering, just very rude overall. She also had in airpods and was talking on the phone most of the time she interacted with us as well. The food was fine, but I don't even want to bother talking about it because of how terrible the service was. This used to be one of my favorite Korean places to go to back in the days. I'm utterly disappointed with where this places headed. It used to have an amazing vibe/atmosphere, and my friends and I would always order their tteokbokki and bibimbap. There's free 2 hour parking in the area. Upon arriving to the place, I had noticed that they had build a whole entire wall separating the main part of the restaurant (now blocked off) and customers. It felt more like a cheap Asian food takeout than a lovely restaurant. It honestly gave an isolating impression and put me off. I had ordered tteokbokki, and I still love the fried sushi-like rolls that came in the dish. However, when I brought the dish to my car in the bag they gave me, the sauce was leaking all over the bag and the container's lid was undone. They need to figure out how to better seal take-out orders. The food itself was just alright. There's some flavor, the noodles were soggy...but I still enjoyed that traditional tteokbokki taste. Disappointing Experience - Didn't Even Get to Try the Food I was really looking forward to dining here, but my experience was incredibly disappointing. First, the waiter accidentally spilled soda all over me--not just a little splash, but enough to make me uncomfortable for the rest of the time I was there. Mistakes happen, but what really bothered me was how poorly it was handled. There was no real apology, no offer to help, just an awkward like it was no big deal. To make matters worse, I felt completely out of place as the only Hispanic person in the restaurant. The service was noticeably different for me compared to other tables, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I wasn't exactly welcome. On top of that, the fried-crackle crust is like 'crack' and leaves you salivating for more. I have had this stuff as leftovers the next day....and the crispy-crunch factor remains even after being refrigerated and reheated!! You have two choices of flavors: Soy Garlic and a Spicy flavor that resembles a Sriracha profile. The ground red-chilies and garlic flavor....add a burn and ting....that even your lips are on fire! I came to this location for some late night eats and drinks, with friends. We ordered both a mix of the spicy and soy garlic wings. Everyone's tongue and sinuses were on alert at our table from the spicy as soon as it arrived. LOL. Personally, for me, the Soy Garlic flavor sets the wings off the best and is my favorite. My only suggestion to you....Eat this stuff in moderation! We have gone here many times. We like the soy garlic and spicy chicken. We do not like any of the sides. The chicken is pricey.

I've eaten at this establishment via Uber and in person...it literally hits the spot every time. By far my favorite location, and this entire time I thought that a review was written. My apologies. So in addition to excellent food they also have amazing employees. Let me tell you how I know. I've recently come to terms with the fact that sesame isn't my friend, so much so that even consuming a tiny amount will incite a reaction. With that being said, I was CRAVING tteokbokki and called the establishment with a few questions. Their website shows allergens for every menu item, and I was curious as to whether or not you could make it without the sesame, whether it was the seed/oil or both, and whether it would be too much of a pain. Not only did the employee go out of her way to find out, she offered to have the dish made without it and (this is IMPORTANT), clearly stated that it would *not* taste the same. Important because maintaining taste is crucial and omitting a key ingredient is going to change everything. That's like walking into an Italian restaurant with olive allergies. Olive oil has a strong taste and is used in most dishes, so they will literally taste different. So instead of throwing a tantrum like our "beloved" Karens of the world, I simply thanked her for checking and ordered a different dish along with the deeeeeeeeeeelicious soy garlic chicken drums. Let's be honest, she really could've laughed and asked if this was a prank. On to the most important part, the food! Most people get the drums but don't sleep on the wings! The wings are fried just as good and tasty. Plus I feel like I can better monitor my food intake with wings. I got half sweet crunch flavor and half soy garlic. Sweet crunch is a new flavor I enjoyed. Soy garlic is classic and always taste good. I also ordered the edamame. It had just the right amount of salt. You also get a pretty good amount of edamame, as a side it was relatively filling. We also had an order of the parmesan fries. There was actually enough parmesan on the fries to justify the up-charge. Of course I'll be back because I come purely for the fried chicken. I picked up an order of spicy chicken fried rice and wings from this location and the rice that I received was not made by Bonchon. It was not even close to the rice I've gotten at other locations. I believe this rice was made at a different place entirely and it was not what I wanted at all. This actually happened back in May and I filled out the contact form for someone to reach out to me regarding this but no one ever did. I even filled out another form to follow up a month later and I still have not been contacted. When I told the hostess there were four of us, she looked at me weirdly and confused. I said it again and she told me to then wait. I think I was confused that she seemed confused. So I pickup my phone and call him asking can I pickup my order. Confused, he tells me to wait. I tell him my order is sitting behind you. He hangs up and take another order. At this point I am pissed. I remind him that you take the people that are present over phone calls and that it is rude to make me and other ppl wait while he continues to take orders over the phone. Not being able to do more than one thing at a time, he has to end his call (I think he put them on hold). At this point I have given him my name and phone number twice already. He responses asking me what do I want to order. I just told I am here to pick up and order that is behind you. I normally give 1-2 tip for pickup. I guess for good gesture. I may have to reconsider only doing that when I can pay at pickup or if I know how they do business. Upset I walk out with my food. I take issue with foreigners that own/do business in communities that the minorities are the majority. They have no respect or customer service. You get what you give. Food: 5/5 - Super delicious and crunchiest Bonchon I've ever had! The chickens were smaller than usual though. I got the medium soy garlic combo with French fries. Service: 3/5 - The servers weren't very welcoming but their English didn't seem too fluent either. Environment: 4/5 - Pretty quiet and empty when I went around 7pm on a Thursday night. This was my first time ever going to this branch of bonchon. There is a lot of seating space for family and couples, and as always the staff was super friendly. I ordered a teriyaki chicken meal which was reasonably portioned for the price, and the meal came with a small complementary salad that was quite yummy. I came on a weekday evening with a friend without a reservation and there was lots of seating space, so I'd say its not so busy at these times. However, the actual flesh of the chicken is flavorless. Now I'm sorry grandma always salted the chicken before frying, just a little tip that anyone&everyone knows who's fried chicken. I would be perfectly content to just munch the skin and throw the actual chicken away. The kimchi coleslaw, wasn't bad but the thing that I like about coleslaw is how the sweet crisp crunch and the coolness of the mayo work together; too much kimchi throws the flavor off making it a tad too sour. The lady took two more phone orders for 10 minutes and when I finally knocked on the window and said "Excuse me?" she then turned around, checked on orders, and handed over my bag. She didn't apologize or said thank you. She basically pushed my order through a pickup window and slapped it shut when I picked it up. The lady had zero hospitality! None. She seemed very young, with no emotions on her face and voice. I manage a restaurant myself and that kind of behavior would not be tolerated at my restaurant. I came here for lunch afte rhaving a craving for Korean chicken strips (I know, oddly specific). Bonchons in Hyattsville is conveniently located next to a movie theatre, making this a great place to stop by before or after seeing a movie. The lunch special was a pretty good deal, I got the half-and-half chicken strips with a side of seasoned fries. As a warning, half-and-half does not mean that they mix the soy garlic and spicy together - it means half of whatever chicken you order will be soy garlic and the other half will be spicy. The seasoned fries were fresh and flavorful. The chicken strips were very good as well: however, although the skin was very crispy, the chicken itself was a bit dry. The skin was kinda detached (if that makes sense) from the skin, so eating the skin or the chicken felt almost like eating a shell. Our waiter was polite: he gave us space, but was very easy to get ahold our needs (ex. getting water or getting the check). Would definitely come back here again! read more

Bonchon Hyattsville - Garlic soy Wing with hair - Korean Near Me - Hyattsville, Maryland

Next up on my Korean Fried Chicken Tour: Bonchon. This was the first "KFC" place I heard about, and everyone has told me multiple times to go for at least a year. I never got around to it, though. It reached a point where my friends were fed up. They put it on our calendar and said I'm going. So it happened! There are several locations around me, including Gambrills, Navy Yard, and PG Plaza. We took a vote and decided on the PG Plaza location. So, I drove to that metro station that morning (I am NEVER doing that again. People can't drive) so I could easily get back there after work. I used to go to PG Plaza all the time while in college, so this felt nostaglic. Bonchon is across the street near the theater, which I have also been to a handful of times. As I walked up, I saw a sign that said "Bar Specials". It included some deals such as $5 margaritas, $5 tequila sunrises, and $5 Courvosier (!) & coke. As implied by the title, these specials only apply at the bar. I wonder if these bar specials change daily? I'll find out in the future. Once I stepped inside I could already see this was going to be different from my first KFC experience. I visited KoChix a few weeks ago, but it was just a carry-out. This was a full restaurant with a full bar and seating area. I was greeted by a host and I told him I would like to sit at the bar. As I walked up and sat down, I was immediately greeted by the bartender named Brandon and received three menus: food, drink, and happy hour. There were lots of unfamiliar foods that I was excited to try. The drink menu is expensive, and the happy hour menu looked great! Apps range from $4-$7, and drinks from $3-$7. The happy hour is only at the bar from 3:00-7:00. Those bar specials I saw on the sign outside last all day! That was a nice surprise. Before ordering my food, I decided to get a Courvosier & coke. It was great! A friend showed up in a few minutes, and we decided to split a "sampler". For $11, you can order a sample of three appetizers. We decided to go with the seasoned fries, takoyaki and harumaki. Those fries are easily top 3, and I have had tons of them. This was my first time eating takoyaki, and I have to say I am absolutely a fan. I could have plates and plates and PLATES of takoyaki! You would think that octopus and ginger instead a fried dough ball wouldn't be good, but my gosh... they're addictive. I don't know what it is with me and octopus these days! It turns out harumaki is just a spring roll. It was delicious too, though. After having a couple more drinks at the bar and having others show up, we all decided to move to a table. We had to close our tabs first, of course. We told the host we wanted to move to a table, so he combined some tables for us and we were set. From then on, a kind server took care of us and she checked on us quite frequently. It was finally wing time! Now, the main reason I came to this place was to try the wings. They have two flavors: Spicy and Soy Garlic. I got an order of 10 wings and decided to get half and half. They came out and I tried each one. They come with pickled radish! Here's the verdict: They're delicious. They have that crispiness and hotness to them that makes them top-tier. Compared to KoChix, Bonchon's spicy wings are 100x spicier. However, I actually overall enjoyed KoChix's wings by a wide margin. If one considers Bonchon's wings excellent (which they are), KoChix's wings are Super Saiyan Godly. Shout out to Brandon for being an excellent bartender, and shout out to this place just for being great. I am just surprised it wasn't busy. It was a Thursday evening and it's on college territory. How is a place with such good food, good music, good atmosphere and good deals not packed? I can't believe I've been missing out all of this time. I'll be back. read more
