I placed an order for Bonchon through GrubHub and received an estimate of 80-90 minutes for delivery. Approximately 20 minutes later, I received an email from GrubHub increasing the estimate up to 2 hours from the initial delivery time. I called the Bonchon to enquire about the delivery time. The woman who answered the phone hung up on me while I was asking about the delay. I called back and she immediately transferred me to her manager. Not only was her version of the story for the delay different than I was previously told, she literally yelled at me and kept talking over me. I called GrubHub to complain. When they called the restaurant, they HUNG UP ON THE GRUBHUB EMPLOYEE while he was asking questions. The food is good, but the service is an insulting nightmare. Vote with your dollars. read more

Service is desperate for improvement. Everytime I've visited this location, we have been seated immediately, then waited 15-20 minutes for the server to get around to coming to our table. Most recently we went on a Sunday evening. The dining room was only half full, each waitress had three tables. I live more towards Allston so it makes sense for me to eat at the bonchon in that location but when I'm in Lowell majority of the time I come here I get bonchon from this location because it's so much better than the one in Allston!! The food is always made perfectly each time and I never had to complain about anything. Even for take out the food is good. As for the service I would say both location is pretty good, Haven't had a problem. The food in Allston just doesn't compare to this location and for some reason it just taste different. read more

Mixed review... the food is great but during this "take-out only"time, they really need to come up with a better system. Called on the phone to order, and was told 15-20 minutes. Got there and there were 4 employees packaging food and answering phones, writhing close proximity, none wearing masks or gloves. There were 5 -6 customers in the small waiting area, some had been waiting over 1/2 hr. My food sat on a table getting cold because they said I was waiting for 1 more item. Another man was waiting for chicken fried rice to complete his order for 1 hr 15 minutes, while the girls at the desk continued to blame it on the kitchen and said it wasn't their fault. I waited just over 1hr, got home for a 21st birthday dinner, and the dumplings, beef, noodles, rice and chicken were all cold, except for the chicken stir fry rice, which I didn't order. I had ordered vegetable and got that instead. They probably gave me the rice that poor guy had been waiting for and I didn't want chicken. They have too many orders coming in from phone, computer, door dash, and a couple more and it's NOT working. Been going here for a few years because it's the only place in town for Korean fried chicken. In general, the eat in experience has been fine. However, the take out experience is pretty poor. Not friendly, and not accurate. Orders are taken in haste, not confirmed, and sometimes changed on you unexpectedly. Love that I can get to bon chon (which has the best chicken ever) with free parking. It's worth going to rather than driving into Allston for it because driving is a hassle. Not a great opening week... But I'm giving it a second chance next month maybe they'll work out the kinks First off, the wings are wingding size (You go to any other bonchon, they are by far, bigger). Second, they don't know how to make okinomiyaki as well as the other spots (I've went to both more than plenty of times) Third, they charge extra for sides and radish (AGAIN I HAVE TO SAY THIS, the other places don't do this!!) Fourth, I can kinda go one way or the other with this. The wait staff is severely inexperienced, in time they'll learn the gist of things, but they should know the menu and what the stuff looks like through training, that I blame on the manager and the trainers. Fifth, this I can not blame completely because of opening week, the wait time and the wrong order of food. Most people got their chicken way before their appetizers and sides. Also there are always many people waiting on the bonchon chicken in the waiting area (first day, I heard one of my friends waiting over an hour, they had to get it to go because of work). I love BonChon for what it is and I love small business... BUT I AM CALLING OUT THE MANAGER ON THIS ONE. (I am not sorry for the caps) By all this reviewing, I have to only assume this manager is cheap as hell. He skimps on the size of the wings ( I tasted more batter than meat) and he charges extra for sides and radishes. He may be a nice guy saying have a nice day or glad to have you here, but that isn't all of the characteristics of a good business runner. He needs to know that running a business while skimping on quality is NOT a good way to run a business. Rant done. This restaurant was immediately welcoming even though me and my party arrived fairly early in the afternoon. We ordered takoyaki and potstickers which were, I must say, the best I have ever tasted. The waitress was an absolute doll who kept up nicely with everything we needed, no glass left empty and no wait left without a "how are you doing". When the main course arrived it was bursting with flavor and aroma, perfectly cooked and presented beautifully. I highly recommend giving this place a visit. I have been ordering from here for well over a year and love there boneless wings. The past two times I've been there to pick up my order the service has been horrible. The girls at the counter would rather talk with each other and flirt than help customers. They are high in price but I feel that you pay for what you get. Because of those experiences I've switched to delivery. Tonight I ordered a little over $60 worth of food and was told 45-50 minutes. I said fine because their food is worth it. After 1 hour and 15 minutes I called back to inquire about my order. I was told it will be at least another 20-25 minutes. Which is unacceptable. That would make it over twice as long as I was originally told. I will never order from here again. I tried both pick up and delivery and the service has gone from bad to worse. The woman I dealt with was named Nara and she told me that she would have the manager either Sam or Victor call me back. She was extremely rude and didn't even offer to try and locate my order. Are you ready for the biggest 180 ever? Yes...I am in love with a girl. A girl named Bon Chon. Although I haven't stepped foot inside their restaurant since "the incident" (baby steps, people) - I HAVE gotten delivery from them about 5 times in the past 2 weeks. It was a divine intervention. I wish my initial post wasn't so damned funny, otherwise I'd take it down. Alas, an update will do. Firstly, the chicken fried rice is *the* best I've ever had, period. And I've had a lot of fried rice in my day. It comes with a great peppery flavor, the stickiness is perfect, and the red peppers and fresh jalapenos are a great touch. The pot stickers are also very good. Filled with chicken/pork and scallions - they are cooked and flavored very well. The chicken strips have become my go-to from the chicken line. I feel like they are less mistake-prone and offer much more meat than the bone-in wing. Both the spicy and the soy garlic are awesome. If I plan on eating a crapload of them, I'll usually do the soy garlic or half & half so my stomach (and subsequent butt) don't betray me. Although my initial visit on opening night was an unforgettable experience, Bon Chon has now become unforgettable for a different reason - their wonderful, flavorful, and addictive food. read more

I have been to bon chon about 10 times now and this is the place I take my friends from out of town. The fried chicken is truly cooked to perfection and paired with the radish is great. The season fries are a personal favorite and the pork buns also have a great mix of sweet and not too spicy but still there. My only criticism, is the location. I feel that if it were in the downtown they would get more of the umass lowell/middlesex/business lunch crowd coming through. Significantly better than wings over lowell. read more

I have to say..... BonChon in Lowell is my favorite new HOTSPOT! It has everything I was looking for and more. Let me start with a very NICE and CLEAN restaurant from the hosting area to the sports bar that showcase different variety of drinks that the expert bartender can mix for you. I love the black splash artwork as well. I know the owner is a very CLEAN person... so god forbid his restaurant is messy or smell funny, he will have a staff meeting immediately!!! Plus he used to work for the health department so I feel very confident dinning there :) The food is very GOOD too! Need more spice just ask! My favorite is the spicy wings, pancake, and anything that has that moving looking thing on top as a garnishment (supper supper thinly sliced dried fish.. Don't know the proper name)!!! I haven't tried out the entire menu yet but I'm hoping to try out everything eventually. So far everything I've ordered have been very tasty and satisfying! I haven't been to a BonChon that isn't busy and this one is no different. BonChon is such a crave right now so having to wait a bit for my food was NOT a total surprised. The longest I had to wait for my chicken was 3 hr in VA. Can you tell I'm a BonChon loyal fan??? Good good takes time and I'm ok with that! The fried chicken here was delicious because it was SUPER SUPER crispy without a ton of breading and the inside was still juicy. The soy garlic sauce and hot sauce is delicious. I liked the radish (cole slaw was ok, kind of sweet) that came with it too. It is not cheap fried chicken though and doesn't come with anything but the radish and cole slaw. The salmon ball wasn't bad. Fresh ingredients. Oversauced with the eel sauce though. I didn't really enjoy how the panko inside had been deep fried. Shrimp shumai was oversauced too with a honey mustard kind of dressing. I wish it got better from there but the service was horrendous too. Our waitress didn't check in on us at all during our meal. It took 2.5 hours to get out of there (Friday night at 9 pm). Probably will not be back...at least not to this location. read more

We went for lunch so I got the $8.95 chicken combo special (2 drumsticks, 4 wings). It's definitely worth the price. Since it was my first time I got half soy garlic and half spicy. Having tried both side by side, I must say spicy is the way to go. I would also recommend getting more wings instead of the 2 drumsticks since they have a better sauce to meat ratio. Overall the chicken is good. Nice and crispy skin with lots of flavor on the sauce. I feel like the drumsticks could've used more sauce since you're left with unflavored meat once you get through the skin. The waitstaff is competent, but don't really stand out, granted I didn't really need much tending to. The host that sat us was really friendly and welcoming. He gets five stars. At the end of the day it was a good experience for a reasonable price, but the claims of "best chicken ever" or "you have to try the chicken here" are a little overblown. read more

The chicken is everything i wanted and more (in fact, I'm still trying to get meat off of my wings from last night), the service wasn't the best i've ever received, but we got our food and drinks in a seemingly reasonable amount of time. The seasoned fries although they were good, not worth $7. I got the scorpion bowl for 1, 10 wings 1/2 and 1/2, and seasoned fries. This review is based on a recent takeout experience. One evening SB and I didn't feel much like cooking and needed some comfort food to combat the elements outside. Korean chicken was in order! I placed an order for chicken strips and fried rice, the order of strips to be half spicy and half soy-garlic. The young woman taking my order stated it would be thirty minutes. Upon arrival at Bon Chon I was intrigued by the design within. It seemed to be well cared for and of handsome decor. Although the bar area was a bit close to the door for my liking, I could certainly see myself having a Sapporo (on tap) or three there. I did need to wait a few minutes for the fried rice, but only a few. Upon consumption, SB and I agreed that the chicken was, indeed, the bomb. The spicy was tongue-burning fiery, and the soy-garlic a pleasant departure into savory goodness. The fried rice was damn near perfect, and while I didn't break out my chopsticks, I certainly could have - the texture was excellent. The coleslaw and pickled daikon was pleasant, but not impressive. I'll update sometime when I have a chance to dine in-house, but for now, I'll definitely be doing pick up again. I highly recommend you do the same. read more

When they first opened, the food was much better than it is now. Now, it's just another place with cheap chicken that was in the fryer too long. The pickled radishes don't even taste the same; no flavor besides the overwhelming vinegar brine. Came here based on recommendations from a couple of friends. Let me tell you, this place is completely worth the ride. First of all the service was great. We got seated quickly by a friendly hostess. The waitress was friendly and followed up regularly with filling our drinks. To start we tried the pot stickers and the Takoyaki. The flavor in the pot stickers was good but what really got me was the texture. They were crispy and firm unlike the dumplings you get some places. The Takoyaki was very tasty. I wasn't sure what it was at first, but the dumpling portion was very light and airy while the flavor of the sauces and the texture of the octopus were perfect. For main courses my wife had the Bebim Bap and I had the Japchae. Both were good but not necessarily great. They lacked a little bit in flavor. The Bulgoki specifically did not stand out. Here's that thing that will keep you coming back though. They serve double fried chicken in their soy garlic and hot sauces. We got a combo pack with wings and drumsticks that were flavored half hot and half soy garlic. It could be argued that this was the best chicken I have had in the last year. The texture and flavor of the crust alone is worth it. And we decided that the wings are the best selection because they give you the most fried crust proportionally. Please read this because it's important. Last Friday me and my boyfriend ordered a medium wings from bonchon, as we occasionally do. He used his debit card to pay, he crossed out the tip section because he tipped a few dollars in cash. The total was $26 dollars. Later we discovered his debit card was charged $277 dollars. Which caused his account to go into an overdraft fee. How could this happen? We originally thought the person mistakenly charged his account the wrong amount. He went back to get his refund and apparently it was put in as a $251 dollar tip. $251 dollar tip for a medium wings? Yea we don't have the money to do that. So obviously someone working there was doing some sketchy ass shit because one, he already crossed out the tip box in the first place, so there shouldn't have been any charge on the debit card. Be careful if you're paying with any type of card and make sure to check how much the transaction was once it's finish pending on your account. Who knows who else they did this too. You need to see who has been putting in the tips because I don't know how you can mistakenly add a $251 dollar tip when there wasn't one written. He got a full refund however, it was a lot of unnecessary trouble to go to bonchon to get a refund and call the bank. read more
