We had an outstanding and delicious meal here on Saturday night. But we cannot wait until their "soft opening" and "crimps in their process" are over. The food here is Five Stars. Solid Five Stars! Their service and wait times however are um, Three Stars. I used the term process, because there doesn't seem to be any logic on when and which food items come out. For instance, the side order of French Fries came first - about ten minutes before the Dumplings. LOL. Did I mention the food here is excellent? It really is! One observation, if you have never had Korean Fried Chicken before, like Bonchon or Kyochon, you should know it's not your typical Korean food place; like Gen KBBQ (Tempe) or Chodong (Chandler). There, you can either grill your food at your table, or they will do it for you in the back. One oddity is there is no dipping sauce, or Ginger Soy mixture to dip them in. I get it, they want the flavors of the dish to come through and not be masked. Then, why not a small amount of the sauce that coats it? Next up we had 20 pieces of their 1/2 Spicy and 1/2 Soy Garlic twice fried Chicken strips ($23.95). Like the Dumplings, these too had an outer candied texture to them and were Delicious! Btw, these were huge pieces of breast meat, which the three of us couldn't finish. Now about fifteen minutes after our chicken arrived, guess what? The Bulgogi Fried Rice ($12.95) showed up. Really LOL. We were expecting our check. Now our blended Korean-American family loves Bulgogi and the fried rice didn't disappoint (photo). Outstanding, but all we could do at this point was eat a forkful and asked for a go container. One surprise was our dessert. We decided at last minute to try their Mochi rice and ice cream cakes (photo). They were small and delicious. For only six dollars, you get three. It was a nice way to end the evening and we would highly recommend them. Tonight our tab ran us $67.94 including taxes but before gratuities. This place has probably the best Korean fried chicken I ever had. I was really surprised on how good their chicken was. Their chicken wings and drumsticks are huge and the flavor on them is amazing. The flavor is very tasty and the chicken is very crunchy even after being microwaved. I've been here at least 3 times and I would say they get better each time. The first time I came here, the service was pretty slow and we waited a long time to get our food. But after the second and third time their service got faster. I absolutely love their soy garlic flavor chicken. My favorite visit would be the third time. I ordered the small combo deal which came with 6 drumsticks and 3 wings and I would say for that amount of chicken the price of $12.95 is reasonable since their chicken is so big. I also ordered the pork buns and chicken house friend rice. Both were very delicious but the fried chicken is was stands out the most. The place is pretty small but they have a lot of people working which makes it super efficient. I would recommend coming in on a weekday or during the day because the weekend nights are crazy busy. People are willing to wait an 1-2 hours. The quality of the meat is rich, flavor is tasty, and they food preparation is excellent! They are a little pricy but it's worth it for the food. If I were Sandra Bullock in Bird Box, this would be the box of birds I'd be carrying post-apocalypse. Then again, I probably wouldn't have survived the first hour. Oh well. Fried chicken, what's good? Uh, only everything! So for starters, let me just say that if you order drums, they're gonna be huge. They are the actual leg and not tiny drumettes so enjoy. If you order wings, they'll be a good size. Get some seasoned fries [excellent crispy exterior and a creamy interior] and fried shrimp shu mai on the side and you have a party. We got all of our chicken half-and-half. The soy garlic is really savory and is best paired with some cold beer. I don't think they use fresh garlic in the sauce which is a bummer but it's still tasty. As for the spicy sauce, it had a nice steady heat that intensifies the more you eat it. Both are good and if they can combine both the sauces, it would be even better! Are they the best KFC in town? I'm not sure I'd say yes but they're pretty darn tasty and hits the spot. This is currently the only one in AZ and when I stumbled on it after watching a show about Korean fried chicken, I drove across town just to try it. I will make this easy... It's the best fried chicken in town! Don't take my word for it, if you like fried chicken that is CRISPY, then you will LOVE Bonchon! I tried both the spicy and the soy/garlic fried chicken and they were both amazing. I tried Bonchon for the first time 4 days ago and I haven't been able to stop thinking about my visit since then. What an incredible restaurant. From food to customer service they are absolutely top notch. You MUST try the Korean Fried Chicken. The spicy and the garlic both taste amazing! So much flavor and the sauce ratio was just right. Be advised that you may have to wait up to 30 mins for the chicken but it is totally worth it. The shrimp balls are incredible too. They are the perfect appetizer. They're slightly crunchy on the outside and warm on the inside. They have a plethora of vodka flavored drinks. I got the peach but they have watermelon, cherry, fresh, pineapple, and many more. My family and I used to come here many times, we were never disappointed. Food was always amazing and service was always perfect. Unfortunately today was just a disaster. We had all ordered our food and most of the appetizer or side dishes we want were no longer available so that was a disappointment. After that we had ordered our food and also ordered some chicken to go. The server then comes out to tell us that if we still wanted our to go orders, it would take over an hour to cook, so we canceled those orders. They brought out a stack of cups for us, but half the cups were still dirty and one had dish water still in it. Our food took over an hour to come out, overall, it was a terrible experience. On top of that, there were only 5 of us and they automatically included gratuity. The server did the best he could with what was given to him, but the girl in the back made this hostile comment towards him which made it uncomfortable. read more

After driving by a few times I was convinced by a fellow parent to go after our team practice. It's located at the end of the strip plaza (and has 2 entrances, come to the rear). Came in with some close friends after sports practice nearby. it still has a sign saying 'soft opening' mode but let me assure you, it's in full swing. Now that I've been multiple time I can say this is a great spot for some KFC (not Kentucky, but Korean) After both visits with groups, I think we've order just about 90% of the menu as everyone was game for sharing. The wings are huge... drums on demand or just a mix so you will get plenty. If you have a group, get a large platter of wings (30) and get them split with the soy garlic or the spicy sauce. I will admit, the spicy ain't no joke!!! Yet on my 2nd trip, I ordered them again!!! If you go in the evening here in the winter, bring a jacket. It's a serious draft that carries for some reason and my seat by the window/side door didn't help. I've been to different Bonchons (one in South San Francisco and one in the Philippines ) and they don't disappoint. Although the Bonchon in the Philippines offer more in their menu. We ordered the lunch special combo half and half. I gotta warn you, their spicy is really spicy! I love spicy food but I cried eating their spicy wings. So just keep that in mind when you order. Their takoyaki was good! But I wish it had more sauce. Also, I wish their wings came with a dip or something. I think that would be nice with ranch. The seasoned fries are very good! Will have to hand to Bonchon for recognizing AZ as an up and coming state for the food scene. I'll be honest it's been boring the past few years cause getting a new restaurant/chain would be a big deal here and opening a Bonchon definitely surprised me. There's a saying that "Arizona is becoming Cali" / "All the restaurants from Cali are coming to AZ" is slowly becoming a reality. This is a huge step right after Gen and Zero Degrees opening and is happy to see that we can have a dedicated KFC spot. O.M.G. I had heard about Korean fried Chicken but never had it until today and I feel I will be forever changed. The food here was fabulous, truly. I could not get over how crispy the chicken was and that's on top of the incredible flavor. I've never had crispier wings or chicken pieces anywhere. We got the combo platter with wings and drumsticks (half spicy) with a side of coleslaw, seasoned fries and an order of pork buns. All of it was just amazing. Ah, Bonchon! Where do I start? All you have to say to me is "Korean fried chicken" and I'm there! I initially went during their first three weeks of opening so it was slightly chaotic and disorganized but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The space of the restaurant is an odd shape but I feel like they do the best they can to customize the table size, which was smart for the design. The wait was also a little crazy but if there is a not wait, is the food even that good? I've been a total of two or three times and I've concluded that I would only go here for the chicken. Everything else is mediocre but the chicken is pretty excellent. The batter on the chicken is the perfect crisp and has great flavor! There are two flavors, a soy based one and a spicy one. From my friends who ate the spicy one, they said the spicy kind was certainly just that. Chicken options include wings, drumsticks or both. If you opt for the wings, note that it constitutes the drummette and the wing. So, if you're one who likes the wing of the wing, you get half of what is specified on the menu. You can also order drumsticks. Either way, the chicken are decent size and definitely be the only thing you eat to feel satisfied. We also ordered japchae, fried rice and bulgogi tacos. Like I said earlier, they were alright but I don't think any of it was stellar. The chicken is worth the wait. Bonchon Arrived for lunch around 12:30 pm, ordered combo of wings and drumsticks in soy garlic sauce along with an order of Bulgogi. Restaurant was pretty full for a Monday lunch time, took our order right away and then waited and waited for our food. If you are on lunch from work the wait for food will kill your hour lunch and then some. Took 45 minutes to get the chicken, Bulgogi was 55 minutes. Then waited for our bill, total time from sitting down to leaving - 1 hour 25 minutes, for 2 entrees!! I understand that this is a newly opened restaurant, but one of the workers was working his tail off, while ours was just over whelmed. Good size variety of dishes and a big size menu. The garlic soy chicken is very good, wings are good size, drumsticks are very big The Bulgogi is bland and would not recommend, need some Bulgogi marination sauce on the meat. Says it is marinated in a homemade sauce, must of missed marination on this skillet. Even though it came on a metal skillet, I swear it seemed like it was boiled or steamed, probably the worst tasteless Bulgogi I have ever had! Talk about a great story. Bonchon was recommended by a good friend at work, she was correct, the food was great. If she mentioned I should take the order to go, the review might have been a five star review. In my infinite wisdom, I decided to dine in and the result was an absolutely ridiculous story I will never live down. I decided to join a friend from work and eat a lunch at Bonchon. We walked in, the place was clean, had enough seating, and the fried chicken aroma in the place was stellar. I was hungry, didn't have a meeting for another hour, and was pretty excited to give this place a try. I go to the restroom, wash my hands and return to the table. My friend ordered a soda, we had menus, so far so good. Waitress comes back 10 minutes later to ask what I want to drink. I order a water to drink. We put in an order for the lunch chicken strips and some fries. Half Korean BBQ half spicy. One order seasoned on regular fry. Nothing crazy. Our fries come out, one goes back because they are both seasoned fries. Waitress brings my fries and spills the ketchup directly on my shirt and pants. I get some napkins from the waitress and wipe up the ketchup from my clothes, phone, table, floor, this stuff is absolutely everywhere. It is comical how much ketchup came out of this cup. Thing is like a clown car. Whatever, it happens. I go to the restroom and wash up my hands. I come back and need to ask for another ketchup for the fries. I wore all of mine. Chicken strips show up. First order half and half, give it to my buddy. The second order comes out five minutes later, half in half. Solid. I then realize half the people look absolutely livid when we get our food. I watch a couple of to-go orders go out. The place has a table of five, three tables of two, a table with a guy sitting alone, nothing crazy. Nobody has food. A lot of orders are incorrect and go back. Not a good look. They drop some sides off to the table of five, at this point I am half way through my food and out of water. Waitress is handing out to-go orders and seating folks. She looks absolutely overwhelmed and out of her element. That bell is absolutely getting hammered. Bags of to-go food are flying out of this kitchen. I find out spicy tenders at this place are 9/10 crazy hot. My mouth is on fire, I need some water, I consider drinking ketchup from the new clown car cup. I am out of fries. I get some water 10 minutes later and start working on my food again. I get through a few more tenders but good lord these things are unreal. I know there is no chance at getting water in time to eat the rest of the food and make the meeting. We ask for a check and water. We get the water, no check. We ask for the check two more times. While I wait I talk to the folks at the table of five. They arrived an hour ago, got three people sides, and never got any more food. One of the cooks comes out, starts running tables, and puts the waitress in the kitchen. Guess I am not getting the check. I have never in my life seen that happen, I eat out daily and have for 15 years. The cook apologizes to the table, say the food will be out soon. Naturally the table of five asks how soon, five minutes tops. They reluctantly agree. I ask for a check again. New waiter, we might get lucky. I sit and wait for my check, the couples that came and sat down get their food. The people at the five person table start laughing every time someone gets their food. They ordered the same food. Absolutely wild. Food is going out of this kitchen, bells getting hammer, they are absolutely losing it with laughter. I feel their pain but understand the humor. I start to consider leaving cash and walking out. We are running out of time. I finally get my check 15 minutes later, from the new cook waiter, I am late to this meeting. No way to make it on time. No food for table five, 15 minutes into 5 five more minutes. As we pay our check, I ask him what's going on with table of 5. Waiter cook tells me that they will discount the meal. I mention the "discount meal" should be covered 100%. He says they can't do it, manager would never allow that. I actually laughed out loud, unreal. Waiter cook dips out for another to-go order and run the card up front, more table five laughter. I go up to get change for a $20. I come back, the remaining tender is gone. Table five no food. I am wearing ketchup stains, but hey the stains dried, and we are now late to the meeting. We walk out the door to the bell ringing for to-go food... on maybe it is table of fives food. My buddy hands me his half eaten container of ketchup. I walk in the meeting late, one of the guys says "Nice, did you decide to wear lunch?" I said "Yep." He wishes me Happy Birthday. I say thanks. First time here and never coming back. Had a table of 5 and spent over an hour and a half waiting for our food while the rest of the restaurant was seated served and left. You could tell they weren't used to being busy and no one wanted to serve because how awkward it was and blamed everything on the kitchen. I've been to the Bonchon in San Jose so I was excited to hear there was one in Tempe. We dined during lunch on a weekend. We were seated right away but unfortunately it was a table by the bathrooms and the kitchen. We asked to be moved but they said they were holding the other table just in case a big party arrives. We ordered the buns and the fried chicken combo with spicy and soy garlic and pickled radish. The buns came 3 to an order, a little difficult if there are 2 people dining. The buns were nice and soft and I liked the cucumber and cole slaw with it. The fried chicken as nice and crunchy like fried chicken should be. The spicy had a kick but not overwhelming. Our favorite was the soy ginger, it was a little sweet and salty. Service was attentive and quick. The dining chairs were not comfortable or very sturdy and I saw a little girl slide off. Good Day, I reside in Phoenix, Arizona. I have heard plenty of great things about Bonchon. I decided to finally give it a try and I took a date to the Tempe location. The food was amazing, but the service was abysmal. I understand the popularity of Bonchon and maybe short staff might cause some longer wait times, but the customer service and speed of service at the Tempe location completely ruined my first Bonchon experience. At first, we were greeted within 2 minutes at the door. Waited 5m to get seated (even though it there was plenty of open tables). Once we got seated, we ordered ice water and few drinks. The water came with no ice but much to our surprise everyone around us had fresh ice water. Once we got settled in with our drinks, Anu was very kind and sweet. She took our order and was very patient. We informed her it was our first time and we are rookies. Once the order was taken, we were only checked on one time. We ordered these delicious starters (potstickers I believe), but they didn't arrive at the start. Our starter arrived with everything else. The spicy sauce is actually spicy as heck! Delicious flavor, but we underestimated the spice level. I only had my water refilled one time and my date only had her drink refilled once. I continued to make eye contact with the staff and manager with no service. I gave up about half way through my dinner because, without water and proper service/attention that customers deserve, I couldn't enjoy the deliciousness. Since I worked in the service industry for a decade in the past, I don't provide this type of feedback often. Once again, the cooks did amazing with the food. Food was very delicious and I would recommend the food, but I wouldn't recommend this Tempe location due to the horrible service. You could tell that they prioritized to-go orders vs dine in customers. Please help improve the locations we have in Arizona. Well at least this location. I can't believe I haven't written a review for Bonchon. Been here four times. Twice in-house and twice To Go. Anyhow, one of my favorite Korean spots and one of the best Korean fried chicken wing in town Last time I ordered out and we had the Korean Soy Garlic Chicken wings. 20 count and sometimes we order even more when we have bigger parties. They are the best. It's so crispy yet moist inside and really like the soy garlic sauce on top. It's not spicy cause we have people who really are not spicy lovers. I can do both but soy garlic is very good. We always get the Japchae. One of my favorite and my wife loves it too. Usually don't find many dishes with the clear noodles and enjoy the veggies and beef. Then we get the Bobimbap. Another one of our Korean favorites. Rice bowl with all the veggies is so good. I added chicken this time and very good. Since my daughter joined us this time I was able to order a spicy dish and we got the Korean Spicy Chicken tacos. Just love it and it really opens your nostrils up. Just enough spices. So good. Anyhow, when they are open we love to dine-in. Totally different experience but it's understandable. We were craving something Asian and came across this place on Yelp. We've had a good experience with Korean Fried Chicken in Georgia so decided to grab some chicken here. I think there's still a soft opening here since their soft opening sign is up. The place is a decent medium size with a more modern look to it and American pop music playing over the speakers. The servers are very friendly and polite. Now, let's talk about the food. My SO and I ordered 10 soy garlic wings, takoyaki, and a salmon avocado ball for lunch. The soy garlic wings are delicious-flavorful, but the sauce-to-wing ratio was a bit off. Because the wings were so meaty, there was no sauce of flavor by the time I bit into the middle of the wings. I'd recommend a dipping sauce on the side or a heavier drizzle of soy garlic sauce to remedy the blandness in the middle. The wings were crispy though and definitely my favorite dish out of everything we ate. The takoyaki dish came with 6 takoyaki balls on a small bed of lettuce or cabbage. It was decent-there wasn't much octopus in the middle so this was our least favorite dish and we probably won't get the takoyaki again. On the other hand, the salmon avocado ball is AMAZING and keto-friendly. It's a ball of seared salmon with an avocado, crab mix, mayo, and cucumber mixture in the middle. It was a good portion, especially with it costing about $10.95. The salmon was fresh, and the dish was overall simply refreshing. I would get this dish next time! We will definitely come back here for our Korean fried chicken craving! FYI- The company says that "Bonchon" means "My Hometown" in Korean. read more

I don't know what has changed in the last few weeks, but the food, service and overall atmosphere is different. Not a fan. Whatever changed is enough to make me look elsewhere. I am giving 5 stars, because I love Korean fried chicken (KFC). Overall, the food was 4 star with KFC 5 stars. I first fell in love with KFC at Bonchon Manhattan and have since eaten KFC at various locations and cities. This location is not quite as good as Manhattan but the KFC is a MUST HAVE if you have never had it. The bulgogi is 3 Star, not great, and that is disappointing. Best Korean fried chicken! I've been to several of these locations in Nevada California and now Arizona. None have disappointed!

Ok...so first we fell in love with the Japchae, which we dove into. Savory, tender pieces of beef, glass noodles, and tons of veggies. The dish is decadent and more than enough for two people! But no...we also ordered the medium combo of drumsticks and wings...with the soy garlic sauce. You can also order it it spicy but I am a wimp! How to describe the chicken; first it takes time! The menu says about 30 minutes and no wonder. Cooked to perfection with a delicate crust that almost melts in your mouth. Not like American fried chicken at all! When someone asks about fried chicken, gonna have to refer them here! We also had a side of cole slaw, which was creamy and not sweet...yummy! Wife had the pickled radish, which she loved. I also ordered a side of rice...not needed! Great meal and we will be regulars! Want to add one more note: they've been open a couple of weeks...working through their soft opening. Staff is learning and challenges are being worked out. I say this because there are those who will expect perfection day one and restaurants don't work this way.
