We all love chicken wings, right! This review is based on their amazing crispy perfect sized wings. I say perfect sized because they aren't huge or small they're just the perfect size. They are double fried and hand brushed and generally come in 2 flavors, spicy and soy garlic. I love getting half of each, but keep in mind if you are not tolerant of a little heat or possibly a lot of heat you may want to ask for a 70/30 split because the spicy can come with a little fire. One word...Crunch! These are probably the most crunchy fried wings I've ever had. I got the combo half and half- 10 wings, 5 drums with coleslaw. Season fries were separate but it was a must to try. I'll give the wings a solid 5 because the outside was crunchy/crispy with each bite. The spicy was definitely hot but delicious. I googled good food near me and this restaurant popped up. Let me tell you it was GREAT FOOD! I 1000% recommend! I was excited for the shrimp shumai but I ended up not really enjoying them. Maybe it was the quirky pairing with dijon mustard that threw me off. Sort of interested in tasting the fried option but I wouldn't include the mustard again. We also ordered some bowls of rice but it was kind of dry and flavorless. The service was fine since I ordered Togo but the amount of fries in the bag was laughable about a handle full for 4.99 is crazy but that's not the worst part the chicken drums all had this big tendon inside and half of it was inedible on each piece. I have been dying to try the Korean fried chicken here after reading about it by fellow Yelpers and in the AZ republic. The lobby displayed an advertisement, hostess desk and glass cooler showing their beverages. Beer, cider and soju mixed beverages. (A Korean liquor that apparently tastes similar to vodka.) After being warmly welcomed and seated, we decided on the sampler wing deal we spotted in the lobby and the bulgogi house fried rice. Happy hour was still running M-F 5-7, so I got $2.00 off my glass of wine! Our server was very attentive when listening to our nut allergy concerns. He asked the kitchen many questions on our behalf. Originally, my daughter had her heart set on the Jap chae or udon but was told that peanut or peanut oil would be present in both these dishes. Now for the food! Their house fried rice dish with bulgogi fell short. The bulgogi was tender and tasty but scarce. Even with the onions, red bell peppers and soy garlic sauce didn't help. The wings on the other hand met the mark! Their three varieties of chicken wing flavors were soy garlic, sweet crunch and spicy. With tender meat inside and crisp, crunchy outside, the wings impressed me. The soy garlic was my favorite, the spicy was my hubby's first choice and all three types got thumbs up from my teenage daughter. The food itself was good. Their chicken is delicious and crispy. My issue is that they allowed a large dog to be seated at an inside table with its owner. This is gross and a health code violation. It was not a service animal (based both on it not having a vest or anything and on its poor behavior). I am upset that they allowed a poorly behaved pet into the restaurant. read more

This place used to have the best Korean/Asian style chicken in the area. I don't know if it's a new cook or what but they do stuff now to mess with the customer. I ordered the same dish I have ordered 50x, large strips half hot / half soy... The last time 2x I ordered "hot" it wasn't even eatable. I legit threw a whole side of chicken out, they over seasoned it with spice x1000 as if it was the normal dish. You bite into 1 strip and it's like you ordered flaming hot habanero wings with extra jalanpenos at your local wing bar. Something to keep in mind with Korean Fried Chicken is it takes time to make, so be ready to wait. It wasn't busy when we ordered and it took about 15 minutes to get the food. The restaurant itself is clean enough, but every time I come here, it always gives me a slight... stale feeling. Maybe it's the cleaning chemicals they use, but I would definitely prefer eating this at home--the only problem is the food becomes soggy. I am no Korean fried chicken expert but I was told by a friend that this was a pretty good spot so we made the 25 min drive. We didn't have to wait at all to get a table during lunch on a Sunday and service was fast. I opted for the boneless wings half and half. The spicy ones were pretty spicy in my opinion and I left the place feeling like my sinuses were pretty clean. Seasoned fries were delicious. All in all a good meal. I have always enjoyed Bonchon's but the last 2 times their wings were awful. They were over cooked and no favor. The rice was mousy second time we order their spiced frys for $8.00 and they were as if they were at the end of the bags and very over cooked and hard. Some obvious good things to take away from the experience - friendly staff, good quality ingredients and condiments, good portion sizes, modern interior - clean, quick kitchen service. We tried the bibimbap soy garlic chicken which was great with their bonchon sauce, the wings with their house spicy sauce, and the katsu chicken with rice. The wings were great although we loved the sauce, so we could do with even more of it next time around. No kids menu but our toddler loved the Garlic fries and the rice. Nice assortment of items to choose from - tried the green tea which was hot and tasted as expected. Will be back to try other menu items soon. Fried chicken! Who doesn't love fried chicken. We ordered their combo of spicy and garlic soy chicken which came in assortments of wings and drumsticks. The flavors were spot on with nice crunch exterior and soft steamy meaty inside. The garlic soy sauces ones were much better than the spicy ones. Goes wonderfully with beer. Recommend korean beer when eating korean food. We also tried bulgogi bibimbap. I notice they included a scoop of quinoa in this dish which I've never seen anywhere else. Surprisingly didn't really taste it once the spicy sauce was added and mixed in. I was also surprised the sauce came in a plastic packet just like you'd see for ketchup. I went to order a 30 piece wing meal. I was informed that if I want more than one flavor then the split has to be exactly half. I asked if I could do 10 in one flavor and 20 in another. The answer was NO. That's petty. The meal costs $45. All I wanted was two flavors. Their spicy wings are too spicy for the kiddos but perfect for the missus and I. I have no words, only sounds when I am eating this dish (Chicken Katsu). It's so flavorful that it makes you wish you had a fork and spoon to eat it with lol. It's breaded chicken on top of a bed of rice and the sauce around this entree is SUPER SMACK! I was mixing the rice in the sauce as I was eating and I'm sure you will too. Now onto the wings... these wings are sure to put your favorite wing spot out of business. These wings are spicy too, if you think you can handle spice try handling this--it makes sense why they give you coleslaw on the side. For takeout, the fried chicken was still incredibly crispy! Coming from CA I was a bit hesitant trying Bonchon here but everything tasted just as great. We got the soy garlic and sweet chili, but they both tasted a bit similar. I like both dry rub chicken and chicken with sauce, so next time I think I'd get half sweet chili and half original. I've been to locations in New York and previously at this location for the grand opening. Since grand opening they definitely have improved and I'll find myself coming back more often. I was initially put off because of the non crunchy, soggy, and slightly warm fries and wings but they have turned things around for sure! The portions on the bulgogi and jap chae although delicious are on the small side. The main attraction which is the chicken does not disappoint-- huge, juicy, and super crispy. We sat and chat for a bit and even after about 15-20 minutes the crunch persisted. For the chicken, soy garlic is a must. The flavor soaks in pretty well and you almost have to clean the meat all the way down to the bone. The drums are quite large and super juicy. The spicy does have a kick and I would say it's what usual people would consider a medium-hot that continues to build. read more

My GF had been craving Korean fried chicken for months so we finally decided to check out Bonchon after recently moving back to Phoenix. She will probably have her own 5-star review here pretty shortly. SNACKS: We grabbed the seasoned zucchini fries as a small appetizer before bringing out the chicken. The waitress said it was a favorite and I can see why. It came with a tasty dipping sauce similar to Utah's "fry sauce". If you are thinking of the zucchini fries, I would definitely spend the extra $1 to get them seasoned. CHICKEN: I would recommend the 6+3+6 chicken combination. 6 wings, 6 boneless, and 6 drumsticks of your flavor of choice. We got one combo of soy garlic and another spicy to share between 3 people and it was the perfect amount of food and evenly splittable for our group. The soy garlic was delicious, but I liked the spicy chicken a little more. Both types were the perfect level of crispiness and seasoning. Depending on well how you handle spicy food I would recommend it. The spicy wings were a little too spicy for my GF and our other friend but surprisingly I was able to handle it. You can also order side radish to pair with the chicken and it definitely dampens down the spice. Apparently the side radish is not complementary with the 6+3+6 combo, but it normally comes with a regular order of wings or drumsticks. My friend and I absolutely love how crispy the chicken is here. We have gone twice now and always enjoyed our food. The only gripe we have which we find to be very odd is that apparently it's a company policy that they cannot give you chicken without being tossed in a sauce. Hypothetically what if someone has an allergy to the sauces. They can't eat the chicken? Sounds weird to me. But oh well. Korean fried chicken on point! My husband & I have been to Bonchon a few times now, and the reason we keep going back is for their chicken. You can get wings, strips, or drumsticks .. also an option is the combo (wings & drumsticks), with one of two sauces - spicy or soy garlic. For me personally, the spicy is too spicy for a full order but my husband loves it. He gets that with the pickled radish. I'm a fan of the soy garlic with coleslaw. When I get the combo, if I'm in the mood for some variety, I get half spicy & half soy garlic so I can switch back and forth. The other notable thing too is that the size of the pieces of chicken here is large! They have a fairly decent sized menu with other options including starters, salads, fried rice, main dishes (tacos, pork buns, bibimbap, etc), and sides. We've always dined in & when they've brought out various dishes to other tables, they've looked really good. The only other thing we've tried so far (other than the chicken) has been the fried rice. It was a bit sweeter than what you'd find at other restaurants; it was good but we have other items on the list to try before we get that again. Overall, a nice casual spot to grab dinner.
