Great food, great location, great vibe, great fun, great value--that's our summary. We were tourists in town for a baseball game when we happened upon BonChon (it's a short walk from Nationals Park). We had essentially no familiarity with Korean BBQ. Our server, Jeffrey C, adeptly overviewed the menu and brought us our food quickly after we made our selections: Bibimbap with spicy chicken, Bulgogi and a platter of drumsticks with various sauces. Everything was delicious and spicy--but pleasantly so. Rice fluffy. Efficient and understated service--thanks for all those water refills, which we needed after the heat of a long July day of touring and the food! Bonchon is delicious - so happy that it's made its appearance in DC! First, Bonchon isn't your regular wings & beers place; it is, in fact, a more subtle Korean fusion that takes something as simple as chicken and turning it into a gourmet specialty. If you have not ordered its chicken before, it is a MUST-TRY. As you sink your teeth into it, you will be handed a slice of heaven on your tongue. It is crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and very flavorful throughout. Unlike other fried chicken, Bonchon chicken will leave you with a delicious after taste, leaving you desiring more. To the uninitiated folks, you must must try to have a piece of Bonchon chicken with a "picked radish". It smells weird, but it is a great combo when it comes to pairing with Bonchon chicken. I cannot say enough good things about it. APPETIZERS: Do yourself a favor and order the salmon avocado ball. It is crunchy, flavorful, healthy and delicious! The size of the appetizer is enough to share among 2-3 people, but honestly, why would you? It takes so good that you'd want to eat it all up on your own. If you are in the market for something spicy, then try to Tteokbokki dish. These rice cakes are great! I'm not personally a fan of the cheese topping, as traditional Tteokbokki dishes don't tend to have it, but the fusion element of the restaurant gives you this innovative dish (with cheese). If you don't like it, just tell them to go easy on it. Shrimp Shumai is another healthy option. It doesn't taste any different from the frozen kind that you'd get from an Asian super market, but don't let that be the reason you don't get it. You are after all, going for the taste, right? And I'm telling you, these are delish. MAIN DISHES: Bulgogi is a must-have if you not tried it yet. It is tender, juicy and well cooked. This is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser and you will likely lick the plate clean. Bulgogi Sliders is one of my other favorite dishes. It totally takes what is so Korean and making it into something quite American. read more

I tried the food. It was delicious! On visiting for the first time, I asked for a hard copy menu. I even offered to buy one for $10. There weren't any available. With Covid restrictions lifting, I would think making an effort to advertise would work in their favor. I don't think I'll come back again. Perhaps I've been spoiled by the BonChon in Hyasttsville, because I was disappointed to learn that each restaurant may do things differently. First, rice is not free at the NavyYard location. It costs an additional $2, and it's about a cup of rice! Secondly, the kimchi-bacon fried rice, that makes the entire visit to BonChon worthwhile, does not exist at the Navy Yard location! The only side that comes with the combo was radishes, which makes paying $22 for double-fried hot wings outrageous! So the food finally comes out, and when we get home, we notice that the radishes weren't even included in the bag! The meat tasted like boiled chicken--unseasoned and without flavor. Unlike at Hyattsville, where you actually get full drumsticks, the NavyYard location sent us home with a box full of hot wings, barely the size of my palm. So frustrating! I won't be going back. My friends won't be going there. We'd rather make the hike to Hyattsville and get our money and tastebuds' worth! read more

Ordered the 10 piece strips half/half with a cola and a water while waiting for uber's surge to fall off after the Tribe/Nats game last night. It did fill up nicely post-game, and the place got loud watching Team USA dominate in swimming and gymnastics. We left at 11:20pm and the place was still popping. Service was good. We both agreed that the soy garlic was superior to the spicy. Spicy was actually too spicy for both of us, which we totally weren't expecting. Pickled radish (I think) is served with the dish to cool tastebuds, but we struggled on the spicier bites. $11+ for strips seems a little pricey maybe. read more

3.5 stars My husband wanted to give them 4 and I was inclined to give them three. I've been meaning to try Bon Chon since the Washingtonian gave the location in Arlington rave reviews. I'd heard mixed things about the one in Navy Yard, but since it was closer to us & we were trying to find a place to grab a quick-ish lunch. We were seated promptly during a later lunch on halloween. We ordered the Bulgogi and the smallest order of chicken strips (half spicy, half garlic). I cannot handle spice, so the split was necessary. The food came out at a reasonable pace. The bulgogi was not spicy, unlike at many other korean places. Very americanized, but still tasty. The bits of onion in the dish were appreciated. The fried chicken was good, but nothing outstanding. The soy garlic definitely have more of the flavor of the soy than the garlic. The spicy was super spicy. I literally ate a piece the size of a dice and wow... It started off alright, but then the heat just builds and builds until your mouth is on fire! I don't know how my husband ate it. He had to keep eating the radishes they provided for him & we had to ask for extra radish to help with the spice. All in all, it's a fine addition to the neighborhood, which has its share of sports bar-like places. Makes sense given its location near Navy Yard. Im a Korean Korean and Ive been to bon chon centreville, arlington, and annandale locations. This navy yard location- the chicken was good. However, seasoned fries that was just topped with some parmesan cheese and some garlic salts not even full in the dish is 7 bucks.?? Also at all other locations, they give unlimited daikon radish AND cole slaw. This is very Korean thing by the way. I'm a huge fan of Bon Chon and had have their chicken and octopus balls. I love the chicken. The extra spicy yet sweet chicken was just as I remember and the takoyaki was on point! No complaints here. It was not me who personally went to pick it up but it was for me so I will do a better post when I actually visit the location but I know that they went to was at Navy Yard. I've waited to post this to calm down but after a couple weeks, I still feel the same. This has been my go to while staying nearby for weeks now. The staff work their asses off. The food is delicious. However, after tonight I am overwhelmingly disappointed in the management here. The place was slammed, the staff was doing their best. Everyone was being helped. Three plus customers felt they were "special" at the bar tonight and started being obnoxious yelling expletives, waving their arms and saying sh!t about the bar staff, because they had to wait to pay their bill. I asked the 3 plus customers if they planned on tipping the staff despite their comments about the staff. One of the individuals got up in my face while the other stayed back and asked what the fnck business it was of mine what they tipped-agreed it wasn't my business in hindsight. I said the wrong thing. But wow, they unleashed on me, complete with saying to me that I didn't know who I was messing with... the manager who had been terrific for several visits did not want to hear my side or the customer next to me side - the manager seemed out to get his staff. This place serves amazing crispy chicken!!!! I can't describe how crispy, not dry, flavorful the meat is!!! The radish slaw was crunchy, tangy and paired well with the spicy chicken. The chicken is life changing! I had the soy garlic wings which were crispy and had good flavor despite needing a little more sauce. I had the lunch special for $9 which came with 8 wings and fries. Cons 1. I called ahead for take out and was given a time for pickup (30 mins later). Even after spending an additional 10 mins trying to find parking amidst the snow piles and construction, i still had to wait 5 mins for my food to finish, risking the wrath of a DC meter maid plus the food was only luke warm. 2. The wings were great but as i ate them, they seem to grow bigger and bigger. Like whatever chicken(s) were sacrificed for my meal were doing some heavy lifting or UFC fighting. Giving BonChon Navy Yard 3-stars is me being generous. If it wasn't for the patience from the employees and the lunch specials this location has to offer, I'd highly recommend the other locations instead of this one. First off, despite having the correct crunchiness and flavor for the chicken, the size of the pieces are small, almost half the size in comparison to what I've seen in BonChon Arlington, Annandale, and various NY locations. The pickled-radish side is also half of what you get when you place an order of chicken. $2 for a very small cup of rice I can make at home? No thanks. While it's understandable that the portion sizes might be a result of being a D.C. location, for a loyal BonChon customer I was a bit disappointed. If you plan on ordering takeout just in time for lunch, please make sure to call ahead of time and let them know when you plan on picking up your order! As with other BonChon establishments, prepping for your order can take at least 20-30mins before you get it. I was able to place a phone call ahead of time at around 10AM before I picked it up right when doors opened at 11:30AM on a weekday. I'd also like to note that once doors open at 11:30AM and you're trying to place an order over the phone, expect to be on hold all the time. Within the span of 10 minutes I saw one of the cashiers place at least 5 different phone calls on hold while she was trying to process all the take orders that were in-house. Despite that, I would like to give huge kudos to the cashiers handling takeout orders during lunchtime, which can be a bit chaotic amidst a pack of hungry office employees wanting their chicken. read more

We decided to stop in while visiting the city. We were pleasantly surprised! The pork buns were amazing as were the tacos and the takoyaki.

The wings are fantastic as always. I've been to many BonChon locations, and I don't know what sort of sorcery the Navy Yard location used for their seasoned fries but they are the BEST I've had at any BonChon, bar none. Amazingly crisp and well-seasoned (I detected a hint of onion powder, yum) on the outside, hot and fluffy on the inside. I'm docking one star for the snooty hostess. The restaurant manager was kind enough to allow my date and I to have one of the booths since it was a slow night, and after he left she gave us a rude and uncalled-for "you're lucky to have this" spiel about how they normally don't allow this because they save the booths for large groups. read more

However, the price is wayyyyy too overpriced and the service is subpar. Second time I came, a waiter gave me attitude for asking for a straw. Not my favorite place in terms of price of service but if you are looking to Instagram your photos of delicious looking food, you've come to the right place. It was a little past 10pm on a Saturday night and they close at 11pm, luckily we were only 3 blocks away at the Half St. Fairgrounds and already called ahead two orders of combo wings, 6 rice bowls and 8 seats. Turns out we needed 16 seats, two more orders of combo wings and 4 more rice bowls. Four us arrived earlier than everyone and informed them that we actually needed more seats and by the time most of our group arrived, our first order of wings arrived. Perfect! It was perfect to at least keep us all satisfied until the final order came in. Our server Tim was on point. He was polite throughout the entire time we were there and attended to everything we needed with out big group. He didn't forget anything and was quick. The manager approached us too and asked us how everything was and if we knew about BonChon before -- (DO WE KNOW ABOUT BONCHON??! HA understatement). We told him that everything was great and we praised Tim for his service and quickness. We probably left a little after closing time, but we never felt rushed by the staff. This location also seemed new and set up different than the other Bonchon's I've been to-- but def fits the city! They do have a bar! Remember to call ahead for those chicken to get fried~ usually takes about 20-30 minutes for those orders! My wife and i were trying to grab dinner before Game 4 of the World Series. We walked to Bonchon and it didn't looked like there were several tables available. When we asked to be seated, we were refused service. When i pointed to the empty tables in the back, the "manager" said those were being saved for larger parties. Since there were only two of us, they refused to serve us. Not to mention that all of the outdoor seating was empty. I don't understand why they would refuse service when there were half a dozen table not being used. Needless to say, we will never try to go there again. Go Nats! But NO GO Bonchon!!! read more

Disappointing experience at this Bin Chon location. We ordered boneless and regular wings. The boneless wings came out way overcooked and not crispy at all, just hard.
