Went on Tuesday 12/15 for Happy Hour and was pleasantly surprised to receive great food as well as service. The place is decorated really nicely with colorful pillows and has a nice vibe to it. The chefs' area/ bar is out in the open and is decorated with their bottles of sake/other spirits. We ordered the Gyoza, harumaki, and the sushi roll. For drinks we had their passion fruit sake. All from the HH menu. Everything was delicious from the food, to the sauces, to even the garnishes. Everything felt fresh. Their passion fruit sake I'm assuming is made in-house and I highly recommend you try it for yourself as it is refreshing and well made. The whole craft(little sake bottle) is only $5!! Truly a 5 star spot! The food was amazing, the vibe was cozy and chic, and the service was on point. My husband and I wandered into Bonding on a Saturday night around 10:00 pm after previous dinner plans fell through. I am not familiar with the area so I went on yelp, searched Thai food, and chose Bonding solely based on the rating and other reviews! It lived up to the standard. It's a small restaurant with several half booth/tables lining the wall and a sushi bar with seating along the opposite wall with about 8 2-person tables in the center that we're combined to accommodate larger parties. The booths along the wall have comfortable cushions and pillows to create a lounge-style vibe. The furniture is all white and looked nice with the accent pillows and cushions. They serve beer, wine, and saki. We opted for a bottle of rose, as it was reasonably priced ($38) and we knew we'd be having two glasses each. We started with the garlic edamame and it was delicious. The sauce was extremely flavorful and the edamame were so hot that we had to wait a few seconds to eat them. I personally love when my food comes out piping hot as it tends to cool down so quickly. Next, I got the pineapple shrimp fried rice and my husband got the massaman curry with tofu. Our food was DELICIOUS! To my surprise, my pineapple shrimp fried rice was served in an actual pineapple! It was so fun and the flavor of the fresh pineapple permeated through the rice. The shrimp were big and juicy and the chicken was delicately sliced. It was also a big portion and I was excited to have leftovers! My husband loved his curry. I took a bite and was blown away by the flavors in that dish. Even though we were stuffed full, we had to get Thai donuts for dessert. They came out in a stack of 4-5 donuts with some whipped cream and raspberries on the side and some sort of traditional condensed milk dipping sauce. They were absolutely fabulous! Service was great as well! I will say we were there definitely later than we usually eat dinner so it wasn't as packed as it could have been but it was still pretty crowded for 10-10:30 with people still walking in the door at 11 for dinner! I'm certain I'll be back and I'll have to try the sushi next time. They had some really creative rolls on the menu. Lastly, pricing was fair. At $18-19 per dish and around $16 per roll, I find that's kind of the going right for Japanese/Thai these days. And although they used real crab, which many places don't, it just didn't taste fresh. It was hard to eat. The sauce served with it was way too bitter as well. As anyone who knows sushi will say, the rice is the most important part of the sushi. The rice was missing vinegar and seemed overcooked. Horrible experience. We called and asked what time they closed. They said 11pm. We made it their 9:25pm and they refused to offer us service. They literally watched us hop out an Uber and still didn't serve us. And locked the doors stating they are closing early b/c tonight was slow. Maybe they slow b/c of this type of treatment. This rating is based off the overall value of the meal, as they tend to charge more per dish compared to other Japanese and Thai restaurants. The menu is pretty extensive, so it was hard to choose only a few items, but I tried the Hamachi Jalapeno (yellowtail snapper in ponzu sauce) appetizer, Pad See Ew noodles, Salmon Yuzu and New Style Spicy Tuna sushi rolls, and Pineapple Shrimp Fried Rice entree. I can't say I loved the rolls, but everything else was decent, and I think my favorite item was the fried rice, which actually came in half a pineapple! I'd describe the restaurant as small and cozy. I tried one of the curries, and the dish itself was decent, it had flavor but it lacked something that made it special, it did not hit all the right notes. The one thing that was incredible throughout the experience was the service. The server was very attentive to all my needs and made sure my glass of water was always full.
