We met a friend for an early dinner and were delighted to find out that the bang-bang shrimp were on a promo. We enjoyed them thouroughly and the serving was so large that our friend decided that her shrimp and a salad made an adequate meal. Sally and I shared the shrimp and she opted for a fish entree. I tried the special of shrimp over risotto which was amazing. Both food and service were top notch. The only negative was our visit was on a rainy cool day and the HVAC was set on a cool temperature. The overhead fans added to the issue. We asked to have the fans turned back and were told they would do that however nobody did. Pretty place with good food. Came here twice last week when I was visiting GR. First time was at night - we had a FANTASTIC waiter named Drew. He was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and did a great job! No complaints. Food was delicious and portions were generous. I had the pineapple glazed shrimp and it was amazing! The second time, we came for lunch and had quite a different experience. Our waitress was young and seemed to be inexperienced (or not well trained?) It took forever to get our coffee. In the meantime, my soup arrived and it was lukewarm. I had to ask for it to be reheated. Flavor was good at least but it appeared to have been microwaved. Waitress was very inattentive. My order came out well before my mother's. I asked for a "warm up" on my coffee, and the waitress microwaved my coffee (she didn't add fresh hot coffee to the cup). She didn't know that's not normal. The waitress was very nice but didn't know how to be a good server. Aside from temperature issues, the food was very good. We love Martini Mondays $5 martinis and margaritas! The espresso is on our list as one of the best. We tried the truffle fries, shrimp toast, and banging chicken. They were all on the happy hour menu. The bar is fast paced during happy hour so the service isn't what you'd get if you sat down, for food (but we came for the drinks right ) But the $7 shrimp toast is packed with shrimp and they don't skimp on the avocados. read more

Sat at table for 10+ minutes before waiter acknowledged us... appeared to be confusion as to who was going to wait on us. First time in - we were just in time for happy hour, so we ordered the Seared Tuna Nachos (seared tuna pieces served over a bed of fried wonton wrappers, slaw and scallions on top, and the truffle fries. Used to be a favorite, but it is going downhill. Have been a few times over the last six months and every time have left disappointed. Food isn't great (bang bang shrimp continue to be the lone bright spot). It's often not full when I go there and just seems a bit sad. Think the food quality is the biggest area they should focus on. The ambience is ok, not incredible but not the issue. The service is typically pretty good. The food - particularly the entrees - is what always disappoints. The cocktails, appetizers, bread and oil, etc... are all typically good... and then the meal comes and the sad trombone plays. read more

Five of us celebrated my birthday last night at bonefish Grill. We were seated in the bar area, which was quiet and intimate. Our server Ryan was exceptional. He was very attentive and helpful in choosing our food. Happy hour goes until 630 so we enjoyed nicely priced drinks before ordering. We started with the famous bang, bang, shrimp appetizer, and it did not disappoint. My linguine de Mar was really delicious. It had muscles, scallops and shrimp in a delightful wine sauce for only $19. The grilled trout was a huge portion and again very affordable. Another member of our group ordered the fillet with chimichurri sauce and it was cooked to his liking. The chicken marsala dish was also very good and accompanied by two sides. He chose garlic, mashed potatoes and was allowed to have a bowl of the corn chowder with crab meat as a side. The final choice was the Ahi tuna appetizer. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed our food. My daughter and wife had tickets to the Hamilton show, so we thought we'd make the trip extra special and take my daughter to a place shed been wanting to go for a while. The waitress was great, and the bread and appetizers were fantastic, but unfortunately the main course were average at best with little flavor. For such an anticipated experience for my daughter we all left disappointed. The dish was not coleslaw but half Brussels sprouts so the texture was not ideal. The scallops were chewy and the shrimp and scallop dish was missing the mango salsa. I'm not sure what lemon sauce was put on the broccoli but that was not mentioned in the menu. I was looking forward to trying Bonefish, but I know I won't be back expensive and the food was mediocre. We have always enjoyed this restaurant, and we have used it for family gatherings for some years.But our recent visit changed that. We waited way too long for our food and when it came it was cold. Clearly it had stood somewhere for a while unnoticed by our server even after we asked if was coming soon and her replying to the affirmative. She blamed it on a "backed up" kitchen but when we ordered the restaurant was only half full. And, of course significantly higher prices were blamed on a new menu. The service was good. The ambiance was ok. The bang bang shrimp is still good. The Chilean Bass that both my husband and I ordered was squishy and mushy rather than flaky. My husband sent his back to be grilled more, but that didn't help. The mashed potatoes were the texture of boxed mashed potatoes. What happened to this restaurant? Oh one more thing -- the tables are covered w a paper, but the paper is shorter than the tablecloth. Weirdly, if you don't have a reservation - you cannot ask to change tables ‍. Which was extremely strange to me, since we were seated by the walkway partition wall next near the restrooms and I really didn't want to see each and every person walking out of them. This restaurant has a nice atmosphere, even when crowded like it was last night. They appear to be experiencing some turnover in their staff as our server was not well acquainted with the menu. I was served a different entree than I ordered but most disturbing was that the Bang Bang Shrimp (one of our primary reasons for going there) was not up to par. Bonefish Grill is a restaurant I've seen around, but it isn't one that has a location in my state. There are 3 locations in Michigan and I've visited the Grand Rapids location. This location is in an odd location as it is surrounded by furniture and a jewelry store. We were seated immediately and our server was very kind to give us some recommendations. To start, we had the Bang Bang Shrimp which was good. Who doesn't like deep fried shrimp dipped in some delicious sauce? The Corn Chowder & Lump Crab was tasty. It came out piping hot and the. crab was nice and sweet. The Bacon Mac & Cheese was not my favorite, but it was respectable. The steamed asparagus was fine, but I like my asparagus a bit thicker. For my main, I got the plank salmon. Came with mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. Solid dish with good flavor. Great dinner spot and bar in Grand Rapids MI. I was traveling for work and we picked this spot for dinner as it was relatively close to the hotel and fairly certain it would be good as it's a high end seafood chain. We were not disappointed! Went to Bonefish Grill Grand Rapids yesterday to meet friends. Got there for a late lunch. Obviously something has drastically changed as we always had a great experience. Yesterday was a huge disappointment. First of all we were put into a booth for 6 people. One of our party has a very bad back. Surgery pending. We requested a table and got it under duress. The restaurant only had a few tables taken??? Next service was slow and it took a long time just to get waters. I asked if I could get anchovies on my Caesar salad. The waitress did not know and needed to check with the chef, when she came back, she said yes, we can get anchovies on your Caesar salad. When the Caesar salad was delivered, there were no anchovies on it and I requested that I get what I ordered and they indicated that they had no anchovies. Really a restaurant that specializes in fish dinners does not have anchovies? I find that very hard to believe. Next the meals came and they were all mixed up. The items on the plates did not match what we ordered. Instead of taking the plates back to the kitchen and correcting them. They started moving food around on the plates while we were sitting at the table. When I received my meal, I had french fries and specifically requested to the waitress that I need ketchup. She indicated she would get it and be right back and left the table and did not return. I went to the bar server and requested assistance and finally got my my ketchup. I requested that our soft drinks be refilled as is normally done and they finally came back and refilled those which should've been just a done automatically I was determined not to let this ruin our dining experience with our friends who we only see once a year so we put up with something that was very unacceptable. If I had been there on my own with my wife, I would've been more open giving feedback to the people who are waiting on us at the time. I do not know what changed, but in the past, we've had great experiences with bonefish Grill in Grand Rapids and this was an extreme disappointment. We will get together with our friends again, but we will not be dining at Bonefish Grill based on this experience. I would give them a rating of one out of five and I think that's extremely generous. I did tip my servers because I don't believe in taking it out on them when it appears that the restaurant is not being run properly and it's a management issue. read more

Easily the worst meal and customer service I've had in a while. We went in to celebrate a birthday and made reservations far in advance. They called to confirm day of, but by the time we arrived, they were scrambling to set our table up. The restaurant was not busy with maybe four other tables with guests total. Drinks and food took a long time, so by the time we thought about getting a birthday dessert, we were more worried about the check. The whole plate was small by it was very flavorful. Could have used less salt and double the crab, but it was still good. My table of 6 with 7 drinks came to $250 including the tip. Bonefish grill used to be great, it was a place family and I could go as our "nice" restaurant. These days, it's the Applebees of seafood. Our bang bang shrimp, a personal favorite of mine, was exquisitely cushioned on a bed of - wait for it - McChicken lettuce. Not exaggerating. Come to bonefish grill if you want a mediocre meal with many walls of expensive wine to stare at, a wobbly chair, and a revolving door!!! Have eaten at various Bonefish restaurants in Michigan and Florida, including this one in Grand Rapids. Have never had a bad meal until this one on August 27 in Grand Rapids. The bread and Bang Bang Shrimp were awesome as usual but main entrees were almost inedible. I had the shrimp and mahi mahi: both were terribly overdone, dry and tough. My husband had shrimp and scallops with same result - overdone and dry. A seafood restaurant should know how to cook seafood! What a disappointment and waste of money. read more

Just had a terrible takeout dinner from Bonefish. I ordered salmon with asparagus for a side. The asparagus was almost yellow, and soggy/limp. Very gross. The salmon was very dry and tasteless. It would have been great if they had some of the food we had ordered. They were out of egg rolls, calamari, oysters, truffle fries, and lobster. Our vegetables were unevenly cooked/microwaved. They offered free desert and didn't have ice cream for the brownie. The even microwaved the brownie too long. My creme brûlée was frozen.?They couldn't make a drink correctly because they didn't have one of the ingredients. Our steaks were ice cold, unevenly cooked and definitely not 9 ounces. I should've taken a picture: it looked like they took leftover pieces from other plates and threw them on our plates. Some pieces were well done, some were rare. All were cold. One manager offered to remake the steaks and never came back. It was eight of us that drove for an hour for a birthday celebration. We left hungry. They passed out free bang bang shrimp cards to compensate. It was the worst experience that I have ever had at a restaurant: One waitress came by and said that she didn't have any issues with her food orders being out of stock. Which made me give a side eye. Did they not want US there l? I felt bad for Emily( our waitress. She was near tears. We took care of her though. It definitely wasn't her fault. Management needs to do better. They both were dressed like they just rolled out of bed and were trying to laugh and make light of it. We didn't see the humor. The chimichurri was great.
