My family has the tendency to go to Bonefish for special occasions. Tonight we were celebrating my moms 50th. The food was incredible as always, a fam favorite of ours is the Bang Bang shrimp; it was absolutely amazing! Our food was delicious per usual. The food is not the only thing that draws my family back, it's the impeccable service that comes along with it. The staff is kind and aware of such occasions right from the get-go. We had an excellent ceviche, as well as a very nice calamari appetizer. I had the crab crusted Alaskan cod. The fish was a bit over cooked. The manager paid for my entre because of it. That is the right thing to do and they did it. I commend them for that and I will definitely try again. read more

Let me start by saying that the food at Bonefish Grill is excellent. We have never had a bad meal here. However, when our evening turns to discussing the mediocre service that you receive, it puts a damper on your entire experience. Bonefish Grill used to be a nice restaurant with high-end servers. Our server tonight did not know how to be a server at bonefish Grill. He couldn't answer a simple question I had about the menu and gave us a very basic answer and didn't offer to get any more information. He finally noticed that we hadn't received our drinks yet and said, "Oh, you didn't get your drinks?" My wife and I joked to each other that we thought that was his job. We asked him for more water, and he took the empty water bottle, but never returned. We had to ask another server for more water. We had at least four different people come to our table, including the manager, and none of them took the dirty plates on our table from our bread and appetizers. In fact, when we left the restaurant our bread plate and appetizer plates were still sitting on our table. We hope this is just one server there, but he definitely needs more training. My parents and I came here on a Wednesday night and it was VERY crowded. We decided to sit at one of the tables by the front since we did not have a reservation. Our waitress was very attentive and came around often. As an appetizer, we ordered the calamari which was ok, and not crispy enough in my opinion. Also we had to try the bang bang shrimp since that is what everyone always talks about - it was pretty good but more oily than I thought it would be. Since it was Wednesday, they had specials for three course meals. I ordered the salmon (pretty good and flaky) that came with fries (average), sauteed spinach, and a slice of cheesecake for dessert. Everything was ok, but honestly the spinach was my favorite! Overall, we were very happy with the service, the food was decent, but it is a little more expensive than I think it should be, unless you come for the specials like we did! Me being one of the youngest people there, noticed that the atmosphere was pretty stuffy. We were seated next to a rowdy table of very well dressed elderly who were quite tipsy. Although in my opinion, wasn't a bad thing because it was quite entertaining. Parking is horrible, and we had a couple parties eyeing us as we ate dessert to have our table after us which was a little weird. Despite it being Wednesday, the parking lot for Bonefish is packed shortly after 5pm. What the heck? Are there really that many people hungry for seafood on a weeknight? Sure, they might get some overflow from the nearby recently-closed Rock Fire Grille, but I am shocked (and thrilled) to see so many people dining out. Our original plan was to grab a leisurely drink at the bar, then proceed with dinner. There are so many patrons clogging up the bar, though, that we decide to head straight into the dining room. Good thing, too. No sooner than we're shown to a table when more and more people arrive. It takes no time for the restaurant to fill up. Wow. I had no idea this location was so popular! We start with a nice glass of Caposaldo "Brut" Prosecco from Veneto, Italy. It is dry and lovely, a nice beginning that whets my appetite for...seafood! On previous visits, I'd have to settle for pork chops or steak or chicken, but tonight I have a craving that only aquatic creatures can sate. As luck would have it, every Wednesday is "Bang Wednesday": Bang Bang Shrimp for only $5. Now, those of you who know me (either through long, painful years of having the "pleasure" of my acquaintance, or the luckier few who just read this website enough to know my curious peccadilloes), know that I'm hot and cold on shrimp. I've had good ones that have opened my eyes to the possibilities...and I've had the rubbery, strong-tasting ones that turn me off for months at a time. I'm praying for the former tonight. The appetizer arrives shortly, glistening orange fat curls nesting atop a bed of greens. We break out the chopsticks and I pop in the first bite. Shazam! Spices and red pepper coat the succulent shrimp, aided by a very light creamy sauce. The breading is not too thick or deep fried, but it's not quite tempura either. Likewise, the sauce isn't too sweet or cloying. Everything is perfectly balanced and ephemeral. I would be hard pressed to say I've had a better shrimp dish in any restaurant. (Of course, that excludes the gigantic tempura prawn prepared by Chef Michel Richard that I had the extreme pleasure to eat at a culinary event in 2009.) Sadly, the shrimp disappears quickly. Time to move on. I am emboldened by our first choice, so I blaze ahead by choosing the Baja Fish Tacos. They are wood-grilled and spiced with cajun seasoning. Right up my alley! One thing I hate about tacos, though, is how messy they can be. It seems I always forget this little point. My first handful is dripping with juices from the mango salsa, so I have to eat quickly. Unfortunately, the fish is a bit too dry. The seasoning is nice and if you get a mouthful with all the components (salsa, lettuce, sour cream, and a spritz of lime), it works. The glass of La Crema Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast, of course) is a surprising match, and just damn fun to drink. No plans for dessert when we headed in, but one glance at the lineup convinces us we need to split a piece of the Jamaican Coconut pie. It is a large slice composed of almost entirely shredded, baked coconut with some eggy mixture on the base, topped with whipped cream and a rum sauce. Sweet, toasty, with a deep burnt flavor from the rum, it is one of the best endings to a meal that I've had in a while. Way too full, we happily pay up and head out to find our car among the throng of vehicles. The next time we visit Bonefish Grill, it will almost certainly be a Wednesday, there will undoubtedly be two orders of Bang Bang Shrimp (and maybe no entree), and dessert will definitely be on the agenda. Hell, get 4 plates and just eat that for dinner...seriously that good I have only been here once, it was the middle of the day and the place was full of Geriatrics...so at first I was a little nervous I might be in for soft foods and butterscotch desserts... I'm not usually a fan of chain restaurants, but this particular Bonefish location is pretty great. My family and I go here every so often and have made it a tradition to come here on Christmas Eve for appetizers and drinks after church. It's typically pretty busy, especially on Christmas Eve, so we make it a point to sit at the longer, shared tables in the bar area. These are first come, first serve and you can get full service here if you want. The bang bang shrimp is a must. I have never been to Bonefish and not ordered this. They have a little kick to them, but not much. Between five of us, we share two and it's a perfect amount. The cocktails are decent, I typically order the raspberry vodka collins. I wasn't impressed with their version of the moscow mule, as it was too sweet. If you like super sweet drinks you might enjoy it, because they add a house made sweet ginger syrup to it. One qualm I do have is that they usually only have one local beer on tap. I understand this is because it's a chain restaurant and not local, but Michigan (especially Grand Rapids) has such good beer, that it's really a shame. My favorite thing on the menu is the Grilled Sea Scallops and Shrimp with either the Pan Asian Sauce or Lemon Butter. If I'm feeling really crazy, I'll order all scallops for an extra charge. I also like the bang bang shrimp tacos if I don't order it as an appetizer. The fish and chips are also worth trying if you're in the mood for it. Chamber was our waitress most recently. I met up with some friends here on Wednesday night - they have their Bang Bang shrimp for $5 on Wed. They get pretty busy from what my friend said so we made sure to make reservations! We were seated right away thanks to the reservation because the place was packed! Not only was it packed with people but the tables are packed in there too! In my opinion they should have taken out a few tables and gave us all a little more breathing room! It was very loud too, hard to talk to the people at my table even though it was just a small table of 4. Not somewhere you want to go if you want to have conversation! I am not a seafood fan - yes, I know, I am odd. My friends all were and just loved the Bang Bang shrimp! I had a 6oz steak w/ 2 sides - garlic mashed potatoes & asparagus. The asparagus was $1 up charge but it was done beautifully! Great flavor! Perfect texture. The potatoes were tasty and the steak was decent. Had good flavor. Good seafood is hard to find in the GR, but they do it pretty well here. They have a solid selection of beers and wines by the glass, and their seafood is pretty good for the Midwest. I ordered the Arctic Char, which is perfectly cooked when it's a bit rare. It wasn't perfectly cooked here, but it was trying hard, and for that, they get my vote. The garlic mashed potatoes were good - not too garlicky and not too creamy or thick. The desserts were huge - share them! It's a good spot for business, and they have large round tables - which I adore. Yeah, we had really been anticipating the Bonefish, but I was left unimpressed. The menu was middling and expensive, I ordered a simple coffee, which arrived ice-cold. The scallops were, however, delicious. I was a bit surprised at the decor, especially when countered by the expense. Lines upon lines of tables, you ate very close to your neighbor (It WAS restaurant week, however) nothing cozy or romantic. One of my favorite Happy Hour spots. The community tables are great because we never have a wait and they make amazing martinis. My mom is a picky drinker but is a regular at bonefish just because of her love for their rasberry martinis. I always get the $5 beef sliders from the happy hour specials. Not great but not horrible either, just OK in my opinion. My husband and I made reservations for this past Friday at 7pm. It was PACKED inside! We could barely get through the crowd of people to the hostess stand. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated. I thought to myself, man the food must be great here for so many people to be waiting. The bang bang shrimp was tasty for an appetizer. For dinner, I ordered the pecan parm crusted trout. Large serving but dripping with butter which turned me off. I couldn't eat all of it. The garlic mashed potatoes and green beans were fine. My husband and I both ordered the ultimate dirty martini. They really need to put on the menu these have stuffed blue cheese olives with them. It's not something that everyone loves and the cheese falls into the drink, ruining it for some people. Personally I didn't think the lemon vodka/blue cheese olive flavors work together very well, but that's just me. The whole experience left me feeling rushed. The appetizer and main course came out REALLY quick. We weren't even one bite into our bread before the shrimp came out and we were barely finished with the shrimp before our dinners came. My husband and I came in for our anniversary. We hadn't been here in years and I was dreaming of some bang bang shrimp and was so excited for a great meal. The waitress raved about the special so we both ordered it. It took an hour to get our food and my husband's was completely burnt on the bottom. The portion sizes were also extremely sad, like maybe 4 ounces of fish. For a $35 plate, this was insane. My husband (who NEVER complains) made it clear he was not paying $35 for a 4 oz piece of burnt fish and asked for the fish and chips instead since that should be hard to screw up. So he got to sit there while I ate and then I had to sit there and wait for him to get his meal. The manager did come by to apologize and explained that they got hit with too many online orders and the kitchen was swamped and gave us a coupon for a bang bang shrimp for our next visit. We love the Bonefish for many reasons, so we went there to celebrate the end of a school year. The setting was great. The service was pleasant and timely. We were, however, surprisingly underwhelmed with our meals. The redfish was mushy. The soft shelled crab seemed meatless, dominated by the crab cake. Came here for my anniversary, This was my first time here and the fish was pretty good, I got the ahi tuna with Asian sauce, it was real good, a bit tiny though. My boyfriend got the haddock, he said it was sort of bland. The thing that will have me recommend this place was our fantastic server, Shelly. She was on top of things, super friendly and everything I could ever ask for in a server, and I go out to eat a lot. She put a candle in our slice of key lime pie, other servers came over and also wished us a happy anniversary, all of this, which as corny as it seems, made our night.
