After a week of eating terrible food because I was stuck in Fort Pickett for a business trip, Bonefish Grill was a serious treat. However, I don't think it was just the vast difference between eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Easy Mac versus Bang Bang Shrimp and filet mignon that made this dining experience as great as it was. First of all, their cocktail selection is quite varied, and everything sounds delicious. I finally chose a Raspberry Tom Collins, which is only $5 and rather awesome. I also had a sip of their seasonal martini, which was cranberry-based and also great. For our table of four, we ordered the famed Bang Bang Shrimp (just a little bit spicy, a little bit creamy, absolutely a must order) and the scallops wrapped in bacon (I had never had scallops before, but boy were these good!). For my entree, I got the filet mignon (juicy and well-seasoned), broccoli (the only thing I didn't like.. seasoning was strange, and it was a little dry), and I substituted the mashed potatoes (SO good) for the seasonal vegetable, chickpeas. Went today and it was excellent. We had a party of 20 for lunch and everyone in the party was pleased. The drinks, appetizers and meals came quickly. The wait staff did a great job of keeping the orders straight and answering questions about the menu. We weren't rushed to get our orders in or to leave when we were done. We visited on 11/24 for our first time and arrived early so we were seated right away. The manager on duty came to our table before our waitress checked in after 5-6 minute wait. She was very attentive and informative. We opted for the 3 course meal for 2. The bang-bang shrimp appetizer was excellent. We added on the corn and crab chowder for my husband and the Caesar salad for myself. The chowder was loaded with crabmeat. The Caesar was wonderfully garlicky and included anchovies. We both ordered the swordfish entree. Everything was wonderful up to this point. After awaiting about 15 minutes, the meals arrived. The swordfish was grilled on wood fire. Both of our pieces were very thick and flaky, not firm like a swordfish steak and I am sorry but this was not swordfish. The sides were haricot vert and a pumpkin ravioli. When I cut into my haricot vert, I FOUND A BLACK HAIR which definitely did not belong to me or my husband. Our waitress immediately took it away and promised a replacement as soon as possible. Another manager came by the table to assure me that my swordfish would be cooked perfectly....which was nice, but really not the problem. He brought my replacement meal shortly thereafter, and asked me to check the swordfish. It was cooked perfectly, and this time, it was swordfish, but again, this was not the reason I sent back my meal. The 2nd meal was very good. The feta garnish really complimented the pumpkin ravioli. We had the coconut rum cake for dessert. It was full of coconut with Myers rum. Good but not great. The waitress left our check, and they did not offer to comp my meal which was disappointing considering the disgusting hair. I know that things like this do not happen very often, but when it did, the manager should have done the right thing and comped my meal, especially since my husband had finished his meal before I got my replacement meal. Very unprofessional! We went there for lunch today- it wasn't busy at all, we got seated immediately and ordered our food fairly quickly. And then we never got our food! We sat for an hour waiting for our food, my husband went to our waitress and told her and she acted surprised. She hadn't even checked on us once since we ordered yet we noticed people had ordered, ate, AND left in the time we sat there. So we just threw a $20 on the table and left hungry. My husband and I always go to this bonefish and enjoy our meals but today it was not a good visit. First our waiter kept forgetting things like my glass of water and a spoon. Secondly the bread was hard as a rock and not fresh. Third, I sampled some of my entree and so did my husband cause we ate appetizers and elected to box the rest up. We left the restaurant and made a stop at a store about 10 minutes from bonefish and both of us started to have the bubble gut. That's not good so we most likely will not be eating the rest. They were really off tonight. I rarely complain about food, but this time I had to say something. At least they were nice and didn't charge us. The best chain seafood in richmond I love this one over its west end counterpart atmosphere is so nice and staff was great the new shrimp cocktail that are in testing here are one of the best thing I have ever had and I hate cold shrimp. A refreshing fresh shrimp with a good taste of heat and served in a frozen ice glass. The Beef dumplings are by far one of the best apps you can get here. The food was good . Service was horrible. The waiter forgot to let the staff know about bring the appetizer along with everyone else and when the bill came I was charged for more than three drinks. We have enjoyed coming to this bonefish grill over the past year and a half. We even joined the Dine Rewards program, because of enjoying coming here. The food is uniformly excellent including multiple shrimp appetizers and entrées. However, yesterday evening we had a reservation at 7 PM on New Year's eve. We should've known that it was too good to be true. When we arrived there were more than 40 people waiting for tables and multiple other parties with times of 645 and seven just like ours. Bonefish can rank w/ our best seafood restaurants in the area. It is it has fresh seafood and excellent filets. Everyone should prepare steaks w/ Gorgonzola butter. Now the negatives. Simply put we had a near perfect evening thanks to Bonefish. We ordered apps, entrees and a creme brulee to wrap it up and everything was just OUTSTANDING. The quality and freshness of the ingredients really shone through in every dish. Their signature app, Bang Bang shrimp, is definitely worthy of that title as it's simply awesome. She had scallops/shrimp and I had the ribeye and both were prepared perfectly. Their crab fried rice is actually well worth the rather pricey $4.50 upcharge because it's just amazing and it LOADED with real crab. The desert was creme brulee which neither of us had ever sampled before and we were not disappointed, it was just stunning... The service, timing, ambience, attention to detail were all where one would expect them to be at a higher end establishment but it wasn't overbearing. Our server was there every instance we needed her and never interrupted us either. I do not give out five stars unless the entire experience was PERFECT and could not be improved upon and well folks, in this case, they've met and exceeded that mark! WE WILL BE BACK and that I can guarantee. If you're debating about whether or not to try this restaurant just GO... The other location seemed to have quite a few bad reviews mostly relating to service and management so this location is definitely the one to hit! I called to make a reservation for my girlfriend and I for her 70th birthday for Friday, 11/15/19. All phone contact was courteous and helpful noting my friend's birthday and asking if I wanted a booth or table. I said a booth would be perfect. At 6:00 the restaurant was pretty much empty except for the bar where a rowdy happy hour was well into their cups. We were seated right awayj and I reviewed the menus for wine, cocktails and beer. I chose Veuve Clicquot that happened to be the most expensive on the menu. Our server (a wonderful lady with blond hair in a pony tail, I can not remember her name) brought what she thought was what I ordered but it was not. She came back to our booth in a few minutes to tell me that they didn't have what I ordered. Since happy hour was still going strong we ordered two cocktails that were excellent. The manager appeared at our table soon after the cocktails with a spilt of sparking wine to apologize for not having what I ordered. On to the food.....my friend ordered the parmesan crusted trout and I ordered the special lobster dish stuffed with shrimp, scallops and lobster that I felt was stingy for the price. Our meals included two signature sides. This is where I have a problem.....the sides are not what a restaurant like this should serve. My friend ordered garlic mashed and cole slaw. I ordered cole slaw and either scalloped or au gratin potatoes. The potatoes where served from an icecream scoop and the cole slaw sat on the plate overtaking the main course. This turned me off completely. At that point I thought I was at a cheap chain eatery but we forged ahead with our meal At the end of the meal our server gave me a coupon for a free entree', again to apologize. I gave them four stars bc of our overall experiences in the past. If I were to review them solely based on tonight, it would only be three stars. The service tonight was not very good. We have never experienced a problem with this in the past though. Our server was slow and very inattentive. She forgot many things, and also committed several server faux pas. I know them, bc I actually used to be a server. The biggest one for me, was that she touched my fork. Not once, but twice. First to slide my overcooked steak off my plate, then to try and take my food before I was actually even done with it. I don't know how other people feel about this, but I know that servers touch several dirty things throughout the course of a night, and don't always have a chance to wash their hands afterwards. Specifically money or their phones. I would have been more than happy to slide the steak off my plate myself, and would have definitely preferred being asked if I was actually done with my food. As for the food, my family's was great. Mine...not so much. My steak was severely overcooked. I had ordered it med rare, and it came out well done. I wish I could say I was exaggerating, but my husband actually said "whoah" after seeing me cut into it. The broccoli was also really under steamed. It was basically raw, and I thought this, but did not complain. I only said something after my husband tried a bite and said that he didn't think it had actually gotten cooked. I will however say that management here is great. I let our server know my steak was overcooked and she said a new one, which I ordered rare to be safe, would be out in a few minutes. Several minutes later it was not out, but the manager was, and she let me know that she was very sorry and would be taking care of it. She was so nice, and they gave me a fresh plate with fresh sides as well. My new steak was perfect, so I very pleased in the end. The creme brulee that we ordered for dessert, was a tad runny, but still tasted good. My hubby's sea bass, and father in laws salmon, were perfect! Underwhelming to say the least. Ordered some sort of ahi tuna bowl. It was served with a sweet and sour sauce that resembled the stuff you get in cheap Chinese takeout packets. Gross and not a complementary flavor with ahi tuna. But that wasn't the worst part, the tuna had gone bad. How could the chef serve this?? You could smell it as it was brought to the table. The flesh was borderline mush and was very fishy. I pointed out to the waiter, as I'm not (nor should anyone be) comfortable eating fish that has clearly gone off. He tried to explain to me that apparently I didn't know what I had ordered. "It's a sashimi style dish....etc" I have eaten, ordered and prepared Ahi Tuna a thousand times and I know good fish from bad. I was a little put off by his response. He did quickly reorder me a new dish, shrimp tacos. Again underwhelming. Limp cold tortillas, over fried shrimp, unflavorful drizzle of some white substance on top. My girlfriends were equally unimpressed with their courses, fish and chips and crab cakes. The creme brûlée at the end was the shining star. Martini Monday was a homerun in the drink department but a massive strike out with the food. Will return, but will not order food. read more

Just another kudos for Bonefish! We live minutes from Bonefish and have made it a second home since first experiencing it in Florida many years ago! The staff, service, food and caring never fails us. We have our favorite foods and occasionally try one of their specials but is always delicious and well served. We usually go for an early dinner, so we can hit the happy hour wines & just an appetizer or small plate for dinner. Some restaurant servers simply ignore you when you have a small dinner and very little wine, but at Bonefish we have been treated well and service has been wonderful. Valentines Day Dinner at Bonefish after seeing a movie was horrible. The restaurant was extremely busy so we chose to sit at a communal table which was fine with us. A waitress showed up, took our beverage orders and brought water to the table.The Lavender Lemonade drink had absolutely NO alcohol. I kept thinking it would hit us later but it never did. We placed our food orders, which took forever to come out, but my Parmesan Crusted Pecan Rainbow Trout, which is my favorite dish at BG , was undercooked and as white as the batter it was coated with. As I requested a fix, my husband ate his codfish and fries, which was a smaller portion than he remembered before. Meanwhile, I was offered a salad to eat while waiting. By the time my fish came out, 35 minutes later, my husband had finished eating, and I was no longer hungry, so I pretty much carried it out. I had waited all day to share a nice valentines dinner with my husband. The least they could've done is comped my dinner. Bye Bonefish! You're no longer our favorite place to eat. My Chilean sea bass came out really hot and tasty but there were a few small safety concerns I had. I loved the fact that all the staff had on face mask except for the cook. I tried to reason with myself and say maybe that's because he's cooking and it's too hot, but he also neglected to wear a beard guard. I may not have noticed the bearded unmasked cook if he wasn't in there singing while he was cooking that spinach. All the staff wear chef coats so I don't know the difference between who wears the white or black but one member of the team must have thought he was being safe by wearing gloves, unfortunately he wiped the sweat off his face with a paper towel several times. Lucky for us this member of the team was smart enough to remember to wash or rinse his gloved hand afterwards. Hopefully a quick ServSafe course can refresh the staff and make this place a great dining experience for someone else. read more

This is a chain and if you like seafood, you should consider this. The first time I went to a Bone Fish Grille is in Williamsburg, VA and then this one. We did not have a reservation and walked in at 7:30 on a Friday evening. The place was buzzing and there was 45mins-1h wait. But they suggested we could sit and have the same food in the bar area. So we did. We ordered their bang bang shrimp as the appetizer which was wonderful. My wife, my son and myself all ordered fish and each one of them were cooked to perfection. The food is outstanding, service was wonderful. The place was however a bit noisy (we were at the bar). The complain is that they do not serve Blue Moon Beer! read more

We have eaten here a few times and already knew what we wanted and knew the food was going to be good. The night started going bad from the time we ordered drinks. Went there on a Friday night for my husband and I's birthday dinner. Had a reservation and was promptly seated. Bang bang shrimp and bread was amazing like usual. Corn and crab soup was definitely more corn than crab. All seafood dishes were more greasy than tasty. My father-in-law didn't even eat his soft shelled crab, but they did take it off the bill when they realized he didn't eat it. Strawberry short cake was great.
