Cute coffeehouse! I love that the barista took her time to add this pumpkin to my pumpkin spice latte

Wandered into Bongo Java, a smidge hungry, looking for a place to work on my final papers. I ordered the Egg McBongo, partially because I liked the name and partially because I was intrigued that it was served on a browned butter english muffin. It was a very simple breakfast sandwich (just egg, cheese, bread) but it was ridiculously good. I also ordered a seasonal drink, called "Our Drink"- the components I remember were cinnamon, brown sugar and salt (!) -- I got mine with whole milk and loved every sip. The next day I returned and ordered the same beverage with oatmilk and it was nowhere near as good (and $8). My tips for Bongo Java: Go with Whole Milk DO NOT, whatever you do, ask for a straw. They will look down their noses at you like you are an earth-hating turtle murderer.

Amazing coffee!! Cool to be able to try such a hidden gem in a great area. We sat outside and it was a special and unique experience. Prices weren't outrageous, either! Staff was super friendly and even made great suggestions on what we should try. I'll be back soon! 10/10

I couldn't decide between a few signature lattes so the team recommended lavender almond. I'm glad I took their recommendation. Fabulous! Love the location & vibe.

My sandwich was deliciouso!!! The amount of pork and eggs and all the fillings was so flavorful. It was good and filling. So glad bongo Java collaborated with Egg Drip. Good combo for sure!!

I've never like Bongo Java but decided to come since the other cafes in the area were too busy. I was extremely nauseous and wanted a bagel but I guess they changed their menu... the egg drop menu is interesting and the sandwiches are cute. Way too expensive for the taste tho. My friends matcha was chunky and gave her heart palpitations. There are lots of tables so I would recommend if you need a place to study!

My sister took me to Bongo Java by her campus at Belmont University for a coffee and work date! I LOVED the cute interior with lots of tables and all the sweet smells of the cafe. I got a simple iced mocha which honestly wasn't the best I've had, but I couldn't get enough of the Good Mornin' BLT sandwich!! It was a classic BLT with a twist including aioli and a fried egg on a wheat bagel. The space was filled with lots of college kids and made for a great, calming work environment. Staff was friendly, but parking was a bit tricky considering it was a weekend and only street parking was available.

Their lox sandwich is so well-made, fresh, and full of flavor. The prices are a little on the higher side, but honestly, when you're looking for quality ingredients and a great experience, sometimes it's worth paying a little extra. My all-time favorite is the pumpernickel bagel with strawberry schmear... oh my God, it's absolutely amazing. A perfect combination that I didn't know I needed! They also have a chicken pasta dish that is surprisingly delicious and has become one of my favorites. Overall, Proper Bagel is a must-try spot in Nashville for any bagel lover. I can't say a lot about service in ambience because I'm always getting it to go or an Uber, but every time I had showed the line is quick and they tried to do its best.

Parking wasn't too bad unless you have mobility issues. Despite their whole thing being NY-style bagels, I actually selected a Reuben on Pumpernickel. I wasn't feeling like eating a whole bunch of whipped cream cheese or a chicken salad. Portion sizes were pretty good, actually. I think the main things for me would be to simplify the menu and offer size options. Something like half a bagel or like a "classics variety" (like a variety cheesecake). So you could pick and choose quarters or maybe thirds. I was happy to see they had savory cream cheese options because they are so underrated. I also got their honey lavender lemonade which was fire and not too sweet. The staff were all great and it is clearly a pretty popular spot. Overall no issues and I will probably go again.

It's in a small shopping center at the north limits of the Crieve Hall neighborhood. You can normally find a parking spot in the lot or if you know someone in the neighborhood, walking is an option too. Walk in and order at the counter. Be sure to check the available bagels that day AND any specials, especially the cinnamon bun special. Every time I have been, the staff has been extremely helpful as you navigate the choices. (note - there is a separate window outside to pickup online orders, delivery orders etc. so that helps with inside congestion). There is almost always a line but it moves quickly. On my last visit, they had just completed the March Madness bracket and were featuring the Cheddar bagel with chive cream cheese- $1. As I said, always check the special! They will feature some interesting coffees, bagels varieties and let's talk about the Cinnamon Roll. The first time I sampled the Cinnamon Roll special it was a blueberry pancake version, imagine an amazing cinnamon roll(yes, it's sweet but not overly and has great flavor), with blueberries and cream on top! The only downside is they are very large, but that means you get one to share with your people. Their bagels are really good! You can eat them plain or get some spread for them. (note that bulk bagel orders are not sliced). They also have breakfast sandwiches. To top it off, this has the feel of a real neighborhood spot. Plenty of folks greeting each other, friends connecting, families gathering. Indoor seating with books for the wee folks and some outdoor tables too. I understand they have another location but this is original CHBCO. Definitely worth checking it out!

I work in restaurants and this makes it high risk for mistakes. When "our" order was ready, she made direct eye contact with us beckoned us over to pay. It wasn't until after we made it out and home we realized it was the wrong order. There is certainly a gap in training because another individual was taking and calling out names for orders. What I received was somewhat similar to my order but extremely plain and lacking. (No offense to the person who originally made this order.) We also believed it would come out in order so we were called forward shortly after the people who were in front of us checked out. The ambiance is decent, the restaurant is cluttered and the ordering system is poor. The outside of the restaurant has two different signs and entrances/exits. I heard multiple people in line confused about this choice as well. My suggestion to ownership would be to make one entrance an exit only to avoid new customer confusion and streamline the ordering process. The bagel I received was tasty, but fell extremely flat because it was plain on the inside. Again, I received the wrong order so it wasn't at all what I was expecting. I would like to give this place another try and hopefully I receive someone else to take our order.

I love a perfectly executed bagel in the same way that Dale Cooper loves a damn fine cup of coffee. As such, I had kind of given up hope to find an actual bagel in town. Would love to see a vegan bagel sandwich on the menu in the future!

Bagels are my birthright…read more I am a New Jerseyan / New Yorker that left the godless north for Nashville 10+ years ago. I was so afraid I would never have another good bagel again that I literally took bagel-baking classes at the Culinary Institute of America. I was right to be scared. For years, Nashville bagels were just bread donuts. Soft circles of steamed sadness committing breakfast fraud. The kind of thing someone hands you and says, "It's basically the same," right before you question every decision that led you south. Then this place showed up. It started as a pop-up inside TKO, R.I.P., and now it has taken over the whole space. This place gets it right. The bagels are boiled, rolled, baked, chewy, crusty, and spiritually accurate. Not "good for Nashville." Not "pretty close." Just really freaking good bagels. No apologies needed. The place looks the way a bagel shop is supposed to look. Concrete floors. Friendly chaos. People working hard behind the counter. And the people? That's the real thing. Mr. Aaron, his wife, and the whole crew are amazing. They know your name. They bust your chops. You bust theirs. That is community. That is customer service with a pulse. They even have a Mets fan, which proves their commitment to authenticity and long-term emotional damage. It's the kind of place you want to go every day, if your wallet, doctor, and basic sense of shame weren't constantly trying to ruin your life. Nashville finally has a real bagel place. I do not say that lightly. I say that as a man who has opinions about crust, chew, schmear, water, and most things. But this place rules. Go. Eat. Complain about the Mets. Order another bagel. Repeat.
