When I made our reservation a month in advance, I noted that we were celebrating our anniversary and asked for the best seating available. Despite arriving on a packed Thursday evening, we only waited about five minutes before being seated. The service was exceptional from the start, with our first round of drinks personally delivered by the lovely boss lady. We started with the Tomatini and the Solstice. I expected the Tomatini to be similar to a Bloody Mary, but it was surprisingly light, slightly sweet, and the basil gave it more of a fresh caprese-inspired flavor. It was unique and delicious. The staff noticed our initial table wasn't ideal for an anniversary celebration and graciously moved us to a much more intimate booth. While we waited for our food, they surprised us with complimentary bacon-wrapped dates and two glasses of bubbly to celebrate. Those thoughtful touches made us feel genuinely special. Thursday specials were another fun surprise. The $10 martinis were fantastic, and I loved the "Girl Dinner" special--a Caesar salad and fries. Cute, simple, and delicious. My $10 Cosmopolitan was excellent. For dinner, we shared the prawns, chili chicken, and lamb lollipops. My husband was especially impressed by the perfectly cooked lamb, but honestly every dish was outstanding. Between the intimate atmosphere, attentive service, creative cocktails, delicious food, and all the thoughtful anniversary touches, Devil May Care made our 20th anniversary celebration feel truly memorable. They do have some barstool seating for smaller parties as well. The menu is mainly tapas/family style here so it was perfect for our big group. I really liked everything that we tried but the highlights were definitely the lamb ribs (I don't even like lamb very much), the zaatar bread, charred cabbage, and the seared branzino with beurre blanc. They had a few mocktail options, so I picked the Miami Nice, which was a refreshing strawberry flavor profile. They have valet parking and validation at the host stand which made it very convenient for us! Everything was so picturesque here. I can confirm: the view is spectacular... if you can actually see it. Only 80% of the tables have a view worth making a reservation for. When I arrived, they seated me at a two-top right by the host stand, just inside the rooftop area. Technically outside, but functionally indoors. My view consisted mostly of the backs of people's heads, a sliver of sky with direct sun, distant buildings, and one very unfortunate, ugly rooftop. The host said she'd try to move me to a table on the "other end," but explained that some guests were overstaying their reservation time limits and hadn't left yet. Then, with a sliver of sun showing, they moved me to the good side of the bar. I was seated in a low lounge setup with a couch and two chairs in a space that could easily fit 5-6 people, and the view was completely different. From there, I could see the water, skyline, bridge, and the rest of the sunset as the sky changed colors. I didn't stay long, because now I felt rude taking such a large table for one person! What I Ordered Botanical Reset Mocktail -- $12 Chocolate Tahini Mousse -- $11 The mocktail was refreshing, but the mousse was the memorable choice. It was one of the best desserts because it was rich, balanced, and an incredible mix of textures and flavors. During bat season, this bar also has a fantastic view of the Congress Avenue Bridge bats, for some of the tables... This bar was confusing to locate. The elevator didn't list the bar, and the floor I initially got off on (following other rooftop wanderers) looked like it belonged to something else entirely. Here's how to find it: Go to the 6th floor. When you exit the regular elevator, turn right. Walk down the hallway to the end. Turn right again, and go down a couple of stairs. P6 will be straight ahead. There's also a separate elevator somewhere else, apparently, but I took the one from the lobby. Seating tip: If they seat you on the side as you enter P6, you might not get much of a view. If you're on the opposite side (like in the photos on their website), the sunset and bridge views are absolutely worth it.

And we were pretty well pleased. We had a Greek salad where all the ingredients were super fresh with a nice pita bread and a grape leaf and a 2 nice pieces of feta. I also had a chicken gyro. Again all super fresh veggies filled the pita wrap and very tasty chicken. They had outdoor seating for our dog who was our dinner guest. But you have to order inside. Which I did. The person who took the order was busy but did a great job. We asked for a couple of large glasses of water with lemon and she promptly took care of us. There were small glasses out on the table but we wanted large ones cus we didn't want to keep walking inside. No problem. Food arrived after a short while and was delicious. They have a nice parking lot however getting in and out can be a little bit crazy when you have everyone from Austin rushing home. Had to wait a long time to get to exit the parking lot cus not one Texan driver would give us a break and let me in the exit lane. Next time I see a Texas license plate in New York I will remember that. But I will still give them a break.

There was indoor and outdoor seating available. After ordering, we sat outside in the most cozy and intimate outdoor seating area. Unfortunately, after waiting 30+ minutes, we never received our food. When we checked at the counter, the interaction felt pretty condescending, staff insisted the order had already been brought out even though we never received it and still had our number with us. At that point we had to cancel the order so we wouldn't miss our show. I do appreciate that they offered a full refund without issue, but overall the experience left us disappointed, especially with how the situation was handled.

We chose to eat inside but took pictures on the patio. Servers were attentive. This place even gives a discount to the parking garage attached to the building. You do have to scan the QR code in the garage when you arrive to pay for parking. (I didn't know that until an hour into my dining and my friend mentioned paying for parking so I had to run out to my car!) Looks like they change the flavors of the boards so it would be great to come back and try different flavors. We were seated indoors which was good since it had just rained and the weather was quite muggy. Our unfriendly waiter (so French) came over right away to take drink orders. Our group consisted of one beer drinker, one cocktail sipper, one soda guzzler and one water drinker. The drinks were very good. For appetizers we started with the grilled octopus and escargots, both of which were delicious and the stars of the meal. For entrees two of us ordered the steak frites, also ordered bolognese, and côte de porc. Nothing was bad at all, but nothing really stood out either. For dessert we tried the crème brûlée and chocolate ganache, which were fine to finish the meal. If you go, definitely get the grilled Spanish octopus, that was the standout dish for me. For a party of four, our bill came out to $360 plus the tip. I'm glad I finally tried it, but with the higher prices and kind of average food, I don't feel a strong urge to come back anytime soon. You don't have to be French to hate Justine's…read more Too bad to have to leave this clip joint even one star. Wait! I give it one star for the amazing gall to offer this offal up as French food! And for rolling their eyes, and their practiced Gallic condescension. Austin used to have a couple of decent French restaurant/bistros: Chez Nous was run by people from Marseilles, and Chamonix, and other parts of France. It didn't compare to French restaurants in France, but it was a decent value, and it was way better than nothing. Fabi & Rosi was probably more German than French, but with a good Euro mentality. Both Fabi & Rosi and Chez Nous died in the Covid plague. The best French resto in Austin by far was Aquarelle, which when it opened had a skilled chef in the kitchen from Aix-en-Provence. Austin probably wasn't ready for real French food at the time, and it quietly folded a few years ago. That brings us to Justine's: when it opened ca. 2009, it was a good value. The escargots were good, the onion soup was good, they served Delice de Bourgogne cheese, and the bread was good enough to mop up the garlic butter sauce. The other offerings were always meh, and the place was loud enough to remove the enamel from your teeth. I had skipped it for a few years until I got back from a trip to France, and wanted a nice French dinner. So I chose to return to Justine's. The crime and the pity of this place is that it is owned and operated by French people, and they know real French food, and they are deliberately abusing the public with their food, service, and prices. Americans generally associate French dining with arrogance, condescension. and laughable price points: if that's your expectation, then Welcome To Justine's! We ordered the radishes served with butter as an appetizer, which was not served with bread--which is sort of the whole point of eating radishes and butter. When we pointed this out, they charged us $5.00 for a half-baguette of bread to go with. Their bread! Their bread! Oo-la-la! Every French or Italian person knows that bread is firm and crusty on the outside and pillowy and delectable on the inside. What we got was the usual squishy, spongy stuff they sell at Walmart (not to cast aspersions on Walmart). THESE PEOPLE KNOW BETTER than to serve bread like this, and at this price! The rest of the meal was downhill--and EXPENSIVE, laughably overpriced, like the stereotypical snotty French dining experience. Before you eat here, do yourself the favor of reading the plethora of one-star reviews before submitting your own. And while we're here, the local food critics LOVE this place--has anybody writing these reviews ever been to France? Or Quebec? So many good restos in Austin have died, ill-served and neglected by the local 'food experts'. Let the buyer....wait: QUE L'ACHETEUR SOIT PRUDENT! THAT'S as close to France as you'll get with THIS joint.
