If you came up to me and told me you were going to give me a taco and charge me $15 for it, I'd want it to be exactly what the Catchetada taco was. It was one of those moments were you kinda take a couple of bites, take it in...gently nod your head a couple of times, and softly say to yourself, "yep, yep, that's it". The other taco that made me feel like that was also a ribeye taco at La Buena Barra in MTY, MX. It's one of those things that changes your mood, your emotional state etc. It really was that good. Now that we have that out of the way, how was the other food? Excellent! We have four dishes and I'd would rank them: 1) catchetada 2) (tied) cochinita pibil & ceviche 4) fish tacos Both the cochinita pibil and ceviche were excellent - loved how the meat was wrapped in a banana leaf. The ceviche tasted so fresh with such interesting flavors to it. Similar to Suerte (which I loved) the tortillas are great. The 4th ranked fish tacos were fine, but didn't stand out that much ( and yes, i know, this probably isn't the joint for fish tacos) The space, both inside and out, was beautiful, the service is attentive and friendly (incl. hostess & servers), good drinks. Lastly, I have to say the value - what you get for the price ($15 taco notwithstanding) is some of the best in ATX! Completely different experience from when they first opened! We had reservations but had to wait a little while before our table became available. We didn't mind, but Arielle, the Maître d', made the experience even better by offering us a complimentary beverage. It was unexpected and such a thoughtful gesture. As soon as we were seated, Johnathan took excellent care of us. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and provided fantastic recommendations. We tried the este ceviche, tuna tiradito, quesadilla de hongos, and pescado a la crema--every dish was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. The Garden G&T was refreshing and perfectly crafted. They now offer a daily happy hour from 5-6 p.m., and on Fridays from 12-5 p.m. they feature specials on select bites, $10 margaritas, and 25% off bottles of wine. Came here for happy hour and While. Everybody had an amazing time drinking their incredibly creative margaritas, their ceviche was a pretty big turn off. The fish felt extremely rare and very fishy, which is not how usual ceviches are supposed to be especially coming from a seafood restaurant. That was definitely the popular opinion across the entire table. The guacamole was absolutely plain and non-memorable. Their tuna crew from the regular menu was absolutely amazing, but it was also $27 dollars. I would still highly recommend the place during happy hour for margaritas. Phenomenal food and service but the noise levels are quite loud. It's warranted though since this establishment was filled with people, so I suggest booking a reservation to secure a spot. Everything was great, from the starter to the dessert. The half portion ceviche is a great decision because it allows a solo diner (like me) to enjoy more items on the menu. You can expect each device bite to be fresh, tangy, and slightly spicy. The Cachetada and Bokchoy both also had deep flavours, but are quite overpriced for their portions. I came here to find the best seafood spots in the area, and I think the Pescado a la crema delivered. The halibut completely melted in my mouth and was enriched with the salsa cremosa. The baby shrimps adds a nice texture and the squash completed the smoothness of the entree. The dish is still on the smallef end, so ordering starters dishes are necessary to acquire fullness. The Pineapple Tarte was suggested by my waitress Chelsea. The item did not intrigue me on the menu, but the recommendation completely proved me wrong. It is like a slightly milder Key Lime Pie, but with a smoother yet still denser texture. With the crumble bottom adding a nice crunch, the dessert wonderfully wrapped my experience at Este. Service: 4/5: Our waiter did a good job at checking in. A couple things to note: they will not seat you, until your entire party is present. Also, if you are celebrating a birthday and are planning to bring a cake, be ready to pay a good amount. Food: 3/5: The agua chiles and the shrimp dish were very tasty. This spot sits in the former home of one of my all-time Austin favorites, Eastside Cafe. When it closed, I remember the owner sharing that whoever came next would prioritize both the quality of the food and the overall experience, and thankfully, that promise held true. I don't make it here as often as I'd like, but every visit reminds me why it's worth it. Everything I've had has been excellent, and the cocktails are a standout bonus. The Friday happy hour stretching through most of the afternoon doesn't hurt either. The fish tacos are a perfect example of what they do well, made with a crispy batter with a lightness that lets the flavors come through rather than covering them up. With a menu inspired by Oaxacan seafood, there's a cohesion to the dishes that makes the whole experience feel intentional. It's been almost a month and I am still dreaming of our dinner at Este. When we were planning our trip to Austin multiple of our friends in the restaurant biz from Miami recommended Este, so we knew we had to make a reservation. First of all - the vibes are immaculate. I wish I remembered our servers name, but she was SO nice an helpful in our ordering journey. We had some things in mind, but she also helped steer us in the right direction. One of my friends does not eat red meat, so that guided our choices which are below: +Tuna Tiradito: my friend who lives in Austin said this was a must order and she was correct. Insane. +Cachetada Taco: the two of us who eat meat opted for this wagyu ribeye taco and wow. Our server said it was the best steak taco in the city and who am I to argue with that. +tostadita de toro: stop what you're thinking about and order this dish. The most incredible tuna belly with the perfect amount of chipotle aioli and a hint of citrus. D I V I N E +Mushroom Quesadilla: so much cheese, but great. +Camarones El Ricas: so good, shell on shrimp with a great butter on top. +Bok Choy: we opted to get some veg, and this was great. I loved the tahini maple dressing. For drinks I got the tropical marg which as passionfruit. My friend got the Verde which was refreshing and delish. Shout out to the team for the Guavamente cocktail which is N/A - while I did not order it, the nod to Elvis Crespo was not lost on me. I also noted that they did have a good amount of N/A drinks on the menu that were quite interesting. I love to see a varied cocktail menu with something for everyone's tastes. Este also has a bar adjacent to the restaurant that is supposed to be great, but we did not get a chance to go. Once again our server was so friendly and helpful with recs of where to go for the rest of our trip. A couple of friends took me here last evening as a birthday treat. The food was amazing! Everything was wonderful from the presentation of the chips and salsa to the desserts. We ordered some mocktails and the hoja en blanco cocktail. We shared all the items we ordered tapas style: ceviche, fish tacos, calabacita salad, tamal, and the pistachio cake desert. Since it was my birthday and I'm lactose intolerant Priscilla, our server, brought me a peach hibiscus sorbet birthday dessert, which was refreshing and tasty. They were extremely busy last night so a few times we had to try to find Priscilla for a couple clarifying questions since the food items seem to come at different times that we expected, but when we did get her attention she was really helpful in addressing our questions and guiding us to the best choices for us! An amazing experience start to finish. We arrived about 15 minutes early to our reservation and they didn't have the table ready but made us feel welcome and had a server come take our drink order to enjoy while we waited. Once seated, our server was awesome and explained the whole menu and listed off his favorites to us. We sat on the patio which was very comfortable and good ambiance. This was my favorite dinner on our little getaway. Staff was so nice!!! The food was the cherry on top! I loved their seafood forward menu. The tuna sashimi was some of the best I've had. I had the enormous pleasure of coming here to celebrate a dear friend's birthday. From the outside, it looks like a normal restaurant, but the moment you step in, everything changes. The level of service is exceptional. The drinks and food came out at just the right pace. Our group was split between seafood lovers and a few who weren't, so we ordered a mix to share. Everything was timed perfectly! We got to enjoy each dish without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. I had never tried aguachile before, and honestly, it was the best seafood dish I've ever had. Definitely one of my favorite meals in Austin in a very long time. The ceviche was a great starter. The market fish during our visit was a snapper. The chili oil along with the carrot and pepper salpicón was a great touch. My favorite from the barra fría section of the menu was the tuna tiradito. We ordered this dish twice. You got some bluefin, avocado and crispy leeks. Absolutely delectable. From the botanas y tacos section of the menu, the smoked whitefish dip is a must try. You got the chipotle aioli with the Serrano type relish, I could've had way more. The fish tacos were some of the best fish tacos I've ever had. It featured some masa battered swordfish, shredded cabbage, along with the habanero hot sauce. When I come back next time, I'm ordering three of these. The Camarones El Ricas is definitely worth a try. They call it their messiest dish and it requires hand to mouth shoveling. It's a butterflied shell-on shrimp with a very tasty chili garlic butter. I wish they served it with tortillas, but I guess you could ask. The Pescado Zarandeado is a half Spanish Sea Bass with a red chile marinade is once again one of the best dishes I've had. So the theme here is that just about everything that they serve is going to be an absolute banger. I cannot wait to be back! read more

Este was a 10/10 experience. Me and my girlfriends were visiting from New York and we booked our restaurants and didn't have time to come to Este. We were so bummed and I just couldn't stop thinking about it. So on the night we went for bbq we discovered that the bbq place was closed and so we had to pivot quickly. We knew that this was our chance! We got to Este's and the moment we walked in we were so excited to be there. It's beautifully designed and the vibes were good. The wait was an hour for a table but they were nice enough to let all 4 of us sit at the bar instead. And boy were we glad we did. All of the magic was happening at the bar! The drinks were perfectly balanced, the bartenders were so sweet and fun and Miles (Miles!!!!) took SUCH good care of us. He had outstanding recs for our food (we ordered exactly what he told us), kept our drinks and laughs coming and was just an overall delight. He even recommended a place for us to go for a nightcap and we absolutely loved that too- it was the perfect end to the night. As for food. We loved the tuna, the sea bass, the fish tacos and the tamale- but the ceviche was the simple but beautifully executed dish we won't stop talking about. We are so so glad that bbq place was closed and feel shame that we didn't prioritize Este's from the get go!!! It will be at the top of my recommendation list for any of my friends coming to down and I hope that someday we get to come back. read more

Este is FABULOUS. I knew it would be because suerte is also fabulous and I love seafood but still! The only thing I actually didn't like is that all the parking is valet; tbh I would prefer to just park my own car esp when the lot is already adjacent to the place, but I digress. The hostess, waiters, and bartenders who took care of me were all lovely, and my server gave great recs. I came around 5p on a Thursday and didn't realize they had happy hour but they do - I had a swordfish taco and their famous ceviche (half portion size) for HH price and I was quite full after! I spent like $22 in total, so pretty reasonable prices. And while the swordfish taco was quite good, the ceviche is FANTASTIC. I loved the ceviche at Suerte too (Tigre sauce based I think) but the way Este does it is definitely different and the spice/tang ratio is perfect, at least in my opinion. The bathrooms are also immaculate. Overall would absolutely come here again, the interior is airy and reminds me of Polanco in Mexico City; it's a great date night spot! read more

Este was a beautiful dinner from start to finish. Highly recommend the Tuesday special, when wine bottles are 50% off! Food: Standouts are the Este ceviche and the pescado zarandeado, and the chocoflan dessert is to die for. Anything from the raw seafood section is super fresh and refreshing. The ceviche was amazing, perfectly acidic and balanced with the creamy avocado- delicious when paired with the tortas. The fish was also so good - incredibly filling and a perfect dish to share. The chocoflan was also a nice surprise, I loved that it wasn't too sweet, and the dense dark chocolate cake was so good in contrast with the silky flan on top - best way to end the night. Had a bunch of dining credits I had to use so booked myself a nice solo Friday lunch res for Este. Here's what I ate and my thoughts: Chips and Salsas - I think this might be one of my favorite salsas I've had in a long time. The chips are come super sized so you break off own pieces, which I think is nice if you are eating it other sides (like the ceviche or guac). I kept going back between the green milder tangier salsa verde and the orange spicier, creamier salsa. In the end I found the orange salsa to be perfectly spicy and very flavorful. Cevechito - I thought the first bite was pretty nice, refreshing and acidic. But as I ate more, the acidity just sort of took over the whole dish. In the end, this felt a little too one note, and I used the orange salsa and chips between bites to cleanse my palate a bit. Tuna Tiradito - The tuna tiradito was a really nice balanced dish, however. It had smokiness, acidity, textural contrast with the crispy leeks, really enjoyed the whole plate. Of course, it's better shared but I was fine eating it all myself. Pescado Zarandeado (half) - This was a solid plate overall. I didn't realize it would come with fresh corn tortillas, but I made myself some tacos with the various sides that came with this dish. The smoky flavor really stood out here and I liked that they kept the skin on. I do wish the fish came out skin side up to maintain the crispy skin, but I imagine not everyone eats the skin so they wanted to cater to that crowd a bit more just in case. Overall, positive experience here, the service and ambience were very good as well. The main thing preventing a 5-star review is that none of the dishes I had were outstanding, besides the orange salsa. read more

We had a reservation and notified the restaurant that we were anticipating to be 15 mins late about 30 minutes prior to our reservation and they still have our table away. Pretty disappointed that despite letting them know we were still coming they gave it away. I understand they are busy and want to turn tables over quickly but not a fan of their reservation policy. We ended up getting a tiny table on the patio. It would have been fine but the table space was so small and awkward and we were forgotten a few times by the server. As for the food, it was actually delightful as always. The tuna tirada is a favorite and far superior over the ceviche. The key lime Oaxaca crema pie is always a hit. After watching an old Bon Appetit YouTube video showing how the kitchen preps the seafood behind the scenes, I finally made a reservation to Este. Much respect to Chef Fermin for his dedication to taste and quality. The atmosphere is bright, the service is fantastic, and the seafood is so fresh. We really enjoyed their version of chips and salsa which are complimentary. The chips are huge pieces that you break off and dip. They had a pleasant crunch with each bite. Here's what we ordered -- - oysters on the half shell: a refreshing way to start your meal. I liked topping mine with mignonette to add some sweetness and acidity. - toro tiradito: great appetizer. The tuna goes really well with the crispy leeks. - fish tacos: these were ok. We felt like this was comparable to any other fish tacos you can find in the city. - cachetada taco: pricey, but damn, if it isn't a good taco. The Wagyu ribeye just melts in your mouth. - camarones el ricas: by far, one of my favorite bites of the entire year. The chile garlic butter and the subtle char from the shrimp is sheer perfection. - pescado zarandeado: tender, flaky, and perfectly cooked. Dining here is expensive but worth a visit for a special occasion. They have complimentary valet parking in the front. We visited after a work event and thankfully they took us right to a table on the patio even though it was pretty late and we didn't have a reservation. Our server was so nice and explained every dish thoroughly. I started with a mezcal cocktail that I loved! We also tried the mushroom quesadilla QUESADILLA DE HONGOS: confit oyster mushrooms, epazote, quesillo, costeño amarillo salsa and it was so rich and flavorful! Everything was great! I took half of this to go and it was still fresh the next day reheated. They brought us a complimentary salad since they were out of shishitos for the night, and now I will purposely order the salad! ENSALADA DE VERANO mustard-date dressing,mixed greens, sungold tomatoes, garden cucumbers, caskey peaches, candied citrus zest. So bright and fresh! Tasted like Summer! We finished with the PESCADO A LA CREMA halibut, shrimp salsa cremosa, squash, habanero ash oil, chives and it was like straight butter. Just melted in your mouth. The serving size was small for it to be someone's meal, but for us sharing we had plenty leftover since we ordered so many items. The shrimp on top of the halibut were amazing! I have never had a dish like this before. Our server recommended dipping the soft corn tortillas in the juice, and packaged me up some to go. Overall 5 star experience and I can't wait to go back! A friend recommended trying Este while we were in town and it just so happened that Dua Lipa also dined here while she was in town for Austin City Limits... and if it's good for Dua Lipa, then it's good for me! Our group of 5 dined here for dinner on their patio (they also had ample seating inside, but the weather was so nice that we wanted to take advantage!). Everything we ordered was literally a HIT! Something to keep in mind is that the dishes here are meant to be shared. + We started off with the seafood platter (oysters, clams, and white fish salad) and ceviche - all of it was fresh and had the great garnishes and seasonings to amplify the taste. + For our main dishes, we had the camarones "el ricas" and pescado a la crema which were perfectly cooked, doused with just the right amount of sauce and seasoning! Additional tortillas were dropped off warmly. + We also ordered the Yukon gold potatoes and the caesar salad as side dishes and I was honestly impressed at how vibrant and crisp the salad was. + We ordered the almond torte, lime mezcal pie, and oaxacan crema cheesecake which were all delectable, but I would honestly order the lime mezcal pie times 3 if I had the choice because that was an absolute home run! + There's an extensive wine and cocktail list, along with non-alcoholic / mocktails as well! I enjoyed my tropical margarita (made with reposado!)! The service was attentive and engaging, but not overbearing at all. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. I love the ambience- the cool blue interiors and the airy covered patio. You are served with tortillas and two excellent salsas to nibble. Some of the must try dishes here are the CAMARONES "EL RICAS" and the smoked tuna crispy tacos. The staff here is very helpful whether it's your first time or you're a frequent visitor. Tried Este with some friends and wasn't overly impressed, maybe I just had too high of expectations. They have a valet service, and otherwise street parking - fend for yourselves because it gets busy! We got a variety of drinks all of which were surprisingly sweet even ones you wouldn't expect. They have a wide variety of beers and wines as well. For starters we wanted a tuna dish but they were out of tuna due to an issue from earlier in the evening (not quite sure what happened but sad bc we were looking forward to the dish)! For mains we split a fish taco and wagyu tacos which were both good, just not necessarily something that I would crave or be dying to go back for. Service was good and atmosphere was a nice refined dining sort of feel. Overall a decent experience but was disappointed given the prior reviews I'd heard, plus it was not cheap. read more
