As I pulled into the bakery, I couldn't help but notice that Fairfield University was just around the corner. That could be a good sign with lots of foot traffic, but it could also mean a lot of college students, and who knows if they are cake connoisseurs? I decided to give it a try. I spent $24 on six cupcakes, only to be disappointed. They weren't dense or soft, just average. I should have gone to Big Y. Then, I saw the desserts in the glass and wanted to try the chocolate pudding. It turned out to be nothing more than vanilla and chocolate jello pudding with one oreo crumble cookie. PROS Excellent cupcakes, and not that surgery sweet crap. These are good high end ingredients, buttery and full of flavor. Absolutely delicious. My fav are the Red Velvet with Creamcheese. Wife loves the Choc Buutercream with sprinkles. We've had everything. The Blueberry Hand Pies are killer, hoping for Apple or Peach ones to come. Love the Butterscotch Oatmeal cookies. Chicken Pies are delicious, the pie crust is nice and flaky. CONS So good we can't stop eating them every week. First time I noticed this place though they have been there for almost a year. Pretty decent location right on route 1 with a big enough glass window that you can see whats going on inside. The place is pretty big with an L shaped counter and plenty of seating on the side. They have a menu that lists out the cupcakes and the frosting that you can choose from. All of the cupcakes are frosted in front of you via cone shaped plastic piping bags. I was very excited to see that they have Banana Pudding ont heir menu so got that, a couple of cupcakes and their chocolate chip cookies. The pudding was really nice, very rich in texture and the cookies inside were much firmer than I am used to, so that differentiates them from the traditional pudding I have had. We live over 3 hours from here- it is worth the drive 2x per year- it is very difficult to find an owner/family who goes above and beyond to check products that they use to make sure that there are no nut allergens and cross-contamination from the product they use. My family has an extreme tree nut allergy, and we do not trust any bakery whatsoever, except for this one. This place tries their best to check facilities- we only avoid the mermaid sprinkles as they are in a facility with other tree nuts. We are okay with coconut so this is perfect for us. Regardless of if you have an allergy or not these cupcakes, cookies, and now their new cinnamon buns are above and beyond delicious. It will be tough to find a bakery that would be tastier than this one. I have not tried the pies yet, and I'm so happy to find out that they can ship them to my home, and certainly look forward to trying their new savory items as well! read more

Highly recommend this place! They opened up in March. They're across the street from Rite Aid. They have street parking and a parking lot in the back with lots of free parking, this is really important in this really busy area. One of the owners was there. She was very polite and welcoming. Her son is the baker. You can see him making cupcakes. The kitchen is open and you can see all the magic happen! They have samples of cupcakes! I tried the orange frosting on vanilla. It was so good!! I got 2 cupcakes - the raspberry on chocolate cake and salted caramel. They have a cute cheating area. I has add my cupcakes and really enjoyed myself. Bonkers has some of the best cake and icing I've ever had in my life. We had my son's birthday party today and everyone agreed- some of the best cake they've ever had. A simple vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. My extremely picky, foodie uncle who "doesn't like sweets" ate three slices. Methinks they've opened recently, so was excited about trying something new! Walked in close to closing time and you order from any iteration of cupcake with choice of available frosting. They were sold out of the red velvet and carrot so I settled for two chocolate cake bottoms topped with vanilla buttercream and chocolate buttercream respectively. Hubby loves banana cake so I got one with cream cheese and one with chocolate buttercream topping. Was sad about the apple hand pies being sold out, as I am a sucker for hand pies. Banana cake was good; couldn't really compete with the super moist baking my mother in law produces but very good. Chocolate cake was delicious- probably the best I've had in a while. Chocolate buttercream wasn't too sweet, which is what I prefer, so actually kind of light overall (if cake could ever be light ha). Store is very well lit and clean, and will definitely be back to try the sold out options! read more

This is a great nut free bakery. My brother has severe nut allergies so I wish this was around earlier! The staff was friendly and cupcakes are made to order. Personally I found them a bit dryer than regular cupcakes but the flavors were great! I got red velvet with cream cheese frosting and chocolate with chocolate frosting. Tried out Bonkers Cupcakes recently and I have to say that they are not very bonkers. We tried a half dozen cupcakes in a few flavors, mostly vanilla with raspberry or vanilla buttercream and a red velvet cupcake with buttercream. The cupcakes are moist, but a little smaller than I'd expect for nearly $4 per cupcake. They're also really light on flavor - the vanilla and raspberry were barely detectable in the buttercream and the red velvet really didn't taste like much of anything. I come to desserts for flavor, so this was a little disappointing. They were decent overall, just not worth the price. The staff was very friendly though. read more

One can walk or drive last this place and not know what it is until recently. Apparently they've been open for nearly a year, but it seems they finally got a lighted sign only a few weeks ago. ok...this place knows how to make cup cakes. seriously. the cream frosting on the coffee cupcake is killer. it is sooooo smooth and light, but packed with coffee punch. the cakes are light and moist. they usually have about 15-20 cup cake varieties to choose from. AND ITS NUT FREE! The issue with this place aren't the cup cakes. Their storefront has quite a bit of seating but it's like sitting in an Operating Room. Sterile, white, and way way too bright. Fairfield really needs an after dinner coffee/desert place. i they upped the game on their interior it would be nice. i suspect they do most of their business catering and/or selling to other businesses. the retail front is more a convenience than anything else... anyways, great cupcakes. probably the best in town. read more

I placed an order on line on Sunday, May 21 to be delivered to my daughter the following day, May 22 for her birthday. I called Bonkers and spoke with Chris to confirm the order and delivery. Delivery was just down the road in Fairfield. Chris confirmed the order and said they use a food delivery service. I get a text Monday morning in a strange language from the driver who has no idea where to go. He sent me a photo of Fairfield Parks and Recreation, he just never got out of his car to deliver!!! He then CANCELLED the order. I cannot believe how badly this went. I called Bonkers and spoke with the owner Mike. I was shocked to not get an apology, nor did he ask how he could make this right. It appears they had no desire to fulfill this order. I ordered cupcakes for Parks and Rec and cupcakes for my daughter to take home. So...where did the 2 orders of cupcakes go? I believe I've tried all of the icings - vanilla, chocolate, coffee, salted caramel, lemon, raspberry, strawberry, and cream cheese as well as many cake flavors - vanilla, chocolate, carrot and red velvet. Just wow. They were a hit with the whole family - highly recommend! The storefront is super clean and well lit, and they're always turning out fresh cupcakes and icing. We got a chocolate cupcake with coffee frosting and a carrot cake cupcake. We also tried the vanilla soft serve. The first thing I will say is how absolutely welcoming and friendly the staff was here especially the owner. But the real winner is the food. The flavors are absolutely amazing. They know how to serve dessert without overdoing it on the sweetness. It's nice to eat a dessert and have each part taste exactly as you imagine. was so looking forward to trying the pudding cups. if it is whipped cream it's heavy more like pudding and not light to counterbalance the pudding thickness. so everything is very thick and somewhat gummy. Looks nothing like the picture. The banana pudding is way too sweet as the banana makes it twice as sweet. both should have light airy whipped cream to counterbalance. we actually threw both out which is rare occurrence. read more
