Alina's used to be our favorite place for cakes in town. We were able to speak to Alina directly, order phenomenal custom cakes and feel like our business was valued. Ever since the westport location opened, the Blackrock location has gone down in service and quality. The team is rude & arrogant, prices have become outrageously high, and when orders are late, customers not notified of delays. Ordered a cake for my Mother's birthday. We decided on a Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and mango mousse filling. The staff at the bakery was very friendly and helpful both when ordering the cake on the phone and picking up. The cake was really nice looking. The only slight complaint is that the M in Mom looks to be a mistake that should have been corrected. The cake itself was delicious. The buttercream was light and not overly sweet. We bought some cupcakes while inquiring about a very special cake order we wanted to place. Unfortunately the young woman working could not have been less interested in helping us figure out what size, how we could get the effects we wanted. If I had wanted a basic cake, I'd have gone to Costco. I was willing to spend a lot of money on this cake but it was like talking to a teenager. Yes/No answers and no information or suggestions forthcoming. Just getting by with the fewest words she could muster to avoid us thinking she may in fact be in a walking coma, and calling an ambulance to check her vitals. Too bad! We will go elsewhere. There is no disputing that the confections at this shop are delicious. Unfortunately they have no way of confirming to the customer what exactly they ordered for phone orders or the day and time of pickup. Sadly when you arrive with great anticipation of picking up your pastries, cakes or cookies and they are the wrong color or scheduled for the day after you need them, instead of apologizing profusely for the mistake you will be argued with, yelled at and perhaps even have a ticket waved in your face. It will then be stated that you are in the wrong and the ticket says . . . . blah blah blah. Mean while there is no way to prove to them that perhapses they might have written the wrong thing down. I needed a cake for a special event this week and remembered that a friend said that Alina does an excellent job. I found a photo online of what I wanted and brought it to Alina. Since the cake I requested included a representation of the Eiffel Tower, the design was fairly complex. Alina said that it wouldn't be a problem and, in fact, she had done a similar design before. Two days later my cake was ready and it was an outstanding replica of what I found online. The cake was a big hit at our celebration and was so perfect for the event. Best of all, the cake was not only beautiful, but also delicious! The cake was moist, the cream filling was perfect. I'm a big frosting fan and Alina's did not disappoint. Alina's recently opened a gorgeous new spot further down Black Rock Turnpike. They were in the middle of closing out the old location when I placed my order. With everything going on and the holiday this week, they ran a little behind, but they apologized profusely and the wonderful cake was totally worth it. I don't understand why anyone would give Alinas a bad review. She is an artist and goes above and beyond. My grandson's first birthday was cancelled due to Covid. I called with a special request today. She made a beautiful fresh cake to order at the last minute. Her cakes rival any I've purchased in NYC. Quality ingredients, and not too sweet. I would not recommend this bakery at all. I was there this past weekend trying to pick up an order I made 2 weeks prior for my daughters 1st birthday. We ordered a unicorn cake which I emailed a picture of to the baker ( a picture they had on their own website) and they said they could make that no problem, I also order 15 cookies in the shape of a unicorn. When I arrived for pickup at my selected pickup time the cake was not ready, they did not decorate it until after I arrived and only after pulling up my email to confirm if that was the correct design. Once we saw the cake the colors used were wrong, did not match the picture and when I asked where the cookies were they stated they did not have them. They did not have an order for them, but they wrote my order down along with the cake and even quoted me the price of the cookies. So I left with a cake that wasn't quite what I orderd and no cookies. The worst part is that they barely appologized, never offered a discount or anything for the mistakes on their part and the owner who was there the entire time never came over to speak with me. Horrible customer service and I will never go there again, and I will tell everyone to avoid them. read more

I buy all birthday and special occasion cakes and pastries here. She customizes everything and it comes out as you requested. She's amazing. Alina's was always my favorite bakery. We started going there about 10 years ago and I've followed them to several locations. However, I can no longer support them because the owner is cold and rude. She always has been but this was the final straw. I was recently there on a Sunday with my husband and mother. My mother is handicapped and had to lean on me to come inside. I wanted her to pick out a dessert that she wanted, so I coaxed her to get out of the car and that's a lot of effort for her. The owner was very busy in a conversation with a family, but the problem was that they weren't buying (they already had), it was a personal exchange. My mother could not stand for very long and there are no chairs or anything she could lean on. The owner kept on this very casual, lazy conversation and everyone could see my mother leaving on me. The space is super small and I noted that they all saw us come in - even the darn family noticed she was struggling to stand. I no choice but to take my mother back to the car, but returned to take this up with the owner. She was still having the personal conversation, and still no one from the back came forward. Notable, too, is that when my mother was with me someone did come to the front of the store, saw us standing there and returned to the back. The point is a) others were working, and b) the owner should have excused herself from her personal conversation and gotten someone in the back to help me at any point in time. Clearly the staff doesn't know to simply do this, the owner should have made this happen. Once the personal crap ended and the also-very-rude family left, I asked who I believe to be Alina, the owner "did you see me come in with my mother who was handicapped?". She paused and literally said "no". The space is all of an 8x8 room, there is no way she didn't see us, she was also facing us and made eye contact. She was LYING and she also knew where this was going, then she lied. I stated my case and proceeded to tell her that handicapped people should never be treated that way. She admitted that her conversation was personal, and she vaguely apologized, stating too "I thought someone from the back would help you". It's your store, that's your job to make sure they do! Seriously??? I have such a bad taste and feeling from this that I can't go back, ever. If I believed it was an accident then I would concede that, but this was blatant rude behavior against the handicapped, and incredibly stupid. I recommend Billy's Bakery on Blackrock, another famous go-to that is also MUCH larger and easier to access. They make more of a variety of baked goods and the quality is superior. They are also less expensive!! read more

Save your money !!! very disappointed in the birthday cake I ORDERED!!!! First , it wasn't even ready and had to wait for it even though it was ordered 5 days earlier. Second , I requested all pastel flowers along with happy birthday ....., Well what I got was 3 PRIMARY colored flowers bright yellow , bright blue and hot pink !!!! Third , the PRICE !!!!! I paid 70$ for an 8" cake !!!!!! I had to use a skewer to poke holes for the candles !!!! BEWARE! The owner is dangerously negligent and a liar. They advertised GLUTEN-FREE on a dessert, and my celiac daughter double-checked to make sure that their mousse actually was. The employee confirmed that it was safe for her to eat. She ate a couple of bites and noticed the balls on top were crunchy...and then rechecked with the worker, who said, "Oh, there actually is flour in it." My adult friend came in and spoke to the employee to ask how this could have happened, and the the response was totally dismissive, so she took a photo of the "gluten-free" sign (luckily, as the owner now states she never sells gluten-free). My daughter got severely sick within the next couple of hours, and the rest of her vacation was ruined. She remains sick, as celiac is severe and takes month to leave a person's system. I called Alina, the owner, who denied responsibility, and then agreed to at least cover the medical bills from the incident. We spoke twice by phone, and then she did not respond after I sent the bills, which were minor (under $20!). Just got off the phone with her, and once again (as I just sent the prescription for the hospital blood tests), she was talking over me, and then completely reneged on her promise. "I am not taking responsibility...Whatever my employee said was irrelevant," she shouted, and said that my daughter should basically never eat out. I told her that her behavior was shocking and that I would take this to the next level. The owner is heartless and her behavior, unconscionable. Stopped in to Alina's Patisserie on a pitstop while heading north. I was hoping to pick up something, a treat, to bring home with me. I chose this place after reading great reviews on yelp and it was a big mistake. This appears to be a VERY specific bakery that makes heavily adorned cakes and a few cupcakes. They do not really have much else in the way of the usual kinds of things you might pick up at a bakery OR a patisserie, like cookies, pastries or tarts. After looking for awhile, I selected a chocolate chip cookie. It was the only kind of cookie available and even though they looked under cooked and odd, I figured it would still probably be ok. How badly can a bakery mess up a chocolate chip cookie?? The cookie was dry and I believe stale, although the biscotti like crunch could be due to some unique baking process that makes the cookie look under cooked when it is actually twice cooked??? While I don't live in the area and know much about other options, I have to believe there are better options for those out looking for baked goods. read more

The cupcakes while beautifully decorated they tasted stale. The frosting was good but the cake itself was not fresh. The cupcakes are relatively expensive so expecting a fresh cupcake is a reasonable expectation. I hope they are more on top of this in the future. read more

She rudely told me no, they do not and walked away. This was after her first employee couldn't even understand the question. I had noticed their attitude but it wasn't until last year when I had it and decided to never ever step a foot in that place again. I ordered my sister's birthday cake and over the phone I told them that I had the cake topper (candy and few other decorative items) not a big deal. When I went to pick up my cake, I asked the girl if she can add the cake topper and I showed her my decorations, if looks could kill I would've been dead that day! She looked at me dead in my eyes and said "YOU WANT ME TO PUT THE CAKE TOPPER NOWWWW" and the other girl that took my order jumped right in and said " YOU DID NOT TELL ME YOU WANTED US TO PUT THE TOPPER", I said to her I had my own topper I did not think it was a big deal to just drop it on top of the cake she continued "I ASKED YOU AND YOU SAID YOU HAD YOUR OWN CAKE TOPPER" by this point I was shocked and confused I just told them to just give me my cake its ok I'll put the topper not a big deal.....there were a few people behind me, I felt so so stupid and embarrassed and I thought to myself why in the world am I giving this shitty shop my money?
