Bonrue Bakery has a fresh ambiance, simple but cute. The most time that you spend is trying to decide what you should get because it all looks delicious. The service is friendly and welcoming. I have not yet tried their cold sandwiches but I have tried their Ham and Cheese Croissant which was fantastic. My favorite baked good is their Kouign Amann and my favorite tart is their Key Lime. We stopped in for a quick lunch and to peruse the bakery cases. It's far more suited to the latter, but they do have a pretty simple menu of savory eats so we landed on a couple of sandwiches and a small pumpkin pie. We weren't the only ones there, and I suspect that's the case a lot of the time. They have a patio and some small indoor seating areas, but it was packed and standing room only indoors on our visit. We waited it out a bit and were able to grab a couple of recently vacated seat after all. Now, you'll pay a pretty penny (St. George-wise, anyways) for the food, but it seems they're driving to elevate the experience and someone has to pay for those boxes that every single order goes out in. There's a lot of craft that goes into that display case, and though pumpkin pies aren't exactly french patisserie, it's more like a Southern Utah patisserie and I'm here for it. I came in last fall following an event at Town Center. I ordered some pastries, not many choices when I came in because it was in the late afternoon. I need to arrive in the morning for a bigger selection! I can't remember what I had, but they were Y U M M Y and left me desiring more. What a great little bakery in St. George. We were getting an earlier start while traveling through the area and so it was too early to stop by my favorite Mexican taco spot in St. George, Angelica's, see my Yelp review, so we decided to try Farmstead for breakfast. Now we have two must stop destinations when traveling through southern Utah. We tried the George breakfast sandwich, which they serve hot with cheese and bacon and it really hit the spot. My wife ordered the turkey club sandwich that looked really good. And we ordered the sour cream danish and KOUIGN AMANN pastry to go and they were awesome, I especially liked the sour cream danish and there were so many other things I'd like to try. So just to start this review the food is pretty decent kind of expensive but worth it, what's not worth it was the blatant racism of the customers that come in. Me and my wife went it today to grab some sweets and sandwiches after a trip in Zion park and I was lawfully carrying in Utah, it's open carry fully allowed. My Day was going ok then while in the restaurant unfortunately there was two black gentleman in there who once saw my firearm decided to start making hateful racist comments and threatening me because I was carrying a firearm assuming because I'm white that I'm "just a cracker who can't fight" and during these choice words thrown about none of the employees said anything or even apologized for what I had to deal with, which I'm sure it's because they don't want to cause trouble it's not fair to me to be berated just for being white and exercising my rights, and due to this will NEVER be going back nor would I recommend anyone to go if I were to be threatened just because I'm exercising my rights. read more

Beautiful interior, in the morning it is PACKED. Line moves pretty quick. The food was EXCELLENT. I love pastries (especially kouign amann) and this place did not disappoint at all. Kouign amann was super flaky and sweet, the almond croissant filling was delicious. I would definitely pass on the veggie quiche (way too much broccoli. Lovely bakery with lots of pastries and delectably items to choose from. Their display case is full of various croissants, fruit cakes, danishes, parfaits, mousse, and more. It's connected to an apartment building in front of the judicial courthouse but there's ample street parking available. I got the fruit parfait. It was delicious with the generous amount of granola and berries sprinkled in. At the bottom there was a good helping of strawberry preserves. I also tried their brownie. Who expected this caliber of a European bakery to be in St. George? Not me. Cool vibe going in. The smell is amazing. There is outdoor seating. Very little seating inside. This place does sweet and savory very well. The tradition jambon et beurre on baguette is here. I should have ordered that as well. Next time, mon petit sandwich. My caprese sandwich was divine. This is an amazing stop in St George. Warm ambiance, incredible food and really delightful drinks. We go every time we are in town!

Hit this place on the way to visit family in Vegas, and it was so good we went on the way back too! You can't really go wrong here (unless you need to be gluten free--then you have like one choice), and I tried a lot of things. The fruit tart was a stand out for me--wafer-thin pastry crust, vanilla bean pastry cream to die for, and fresh fruit. But the chocolate cake and pumpkin pie and croissants and raspberry cheesecake (pretzel in the crust! Yum!) were all spot on as well. If I'm ever anywhere near St George and this place is open, I will be back as many times as I can get away with. read more

There must have been 8 employees behind the counter all talking amongst themselves and not one of them available enough to take the time to greet or welcome us as customers, that without...they'd be working somewhere else or at home. Our name was given for our coffee drinks...not that it mattered, because they were not labeled and no one called out our name to alert us that our coffee was ready. At that point, when we asked about our coffee, we were informed that it had been sitting there on the counter all along with some other unnamed coffees. How simple it would have been to call out an order when ready. Maybe a simple oversight, but to roll your eyes and look over at your coworker as if to say you don't get paid enough to tell people their coffees are ready... Bon Rue formerly Farmstead does most things right. They offer a visually appealing and very tasty line of artisan baked goods and sandwiches. Personally though, having patronized the shop since their opening, I feel that the quality of some of their products has diminished since they centralized their production north of St George. Understandably a wise business move, to me it has resulted in a lesser quality in their breads and sandwiches. Perhaps, far be it from me to suggest to the experts something about quality, but I think that artisan breads baked and delivered overnight suffer a bit by mid day to closing. What once were crisp perfect baguettes have become kinda just a standard loaf and sandwiches sometimes a slightly soft and soggy disappointing lunch. I continue to patronize Bon Rue but honestly would prefer a La Brea baguette from Smiths considering the price difference and the quality being equal or better if Smiths has recently placed them out after baking them off. And there are several places in town offering really good sandwiches that make for a nice destination to gather for lunch out. Another minor peeve of mine is the "formulaic" hospitality standard set by the owners. I feel that interactions with customers should be easy, natural and comfortable. Staff should be trained and guided to be warm and welcoming but not "scripted". Interaction at the register, while always pleasant, sometimes feels awkward and disingenuously forced. Ohhhh my goodness, thank the billboard gods for sending me to Farmstead! We're visiting from out of state and saw a billboard touting it as the best bakery in Utah. How do you NOT go? I ordered with my heart and got the raspberry croissant, almond croissant (x3 baked I think?), and the espresso croissant. Before completing my order, I asked the lovely employee helping gather my pastries if there was anything I was missing out on and she let me know that they're known for the kouign-amann. So into the box it went! I absolutely love a good chai latte, so I also grabbed an iced one with oat milk to go! First of all, there wasn't a single bad item in the box. Everything was delicious and I really do believe this could be the best bakery in Utah. The true highlights to me were the almond croissant and the espresso croissant. I have legitimately never had better. I would eat these every day of my life. My husband also listed the almond croissant as his favorite, but said the kouign-amann was a close second! I really enjoy farmstead! St. George has slim picking when it comes to GOOD food so I really appreciate them. Their aesthetic is wonderful and the location is great. Everyone there is very sweet and professional. The baked goods are wonderful and I absolutely love their sandwiches. My all time favorite thing is their chicken Caesar, the quinoa mix is AMAZING. I also love the dressing. It almost tastes homemade though I'm not sure if it is. I am also super appreciative it's not just lettuce, it's spring mix if they could add some radicchio it would be perfect. ! I pair it with a match cooler and it's my favorite way to treat myself. I only have two discrepancies... I actually get the salad routinely on Sundays and unfortunately I've had two salads that were on their way out. I would just prompt them to double check the salad freshness and make sure the mixed greens aren't starting to wilt and condensate. It can be super hard to tell from the outside until one is eating it and of course the after effect as well :/ I also need more chicken!! Obviously the locals here know how great farmstead is during their normal business hours but it feels like there is an additional item on their menu that continues to make this place a great attraction. You have to order their pizza! I'm not talking about their pizza they have on display throughout the day but the "after hours" full size delicious pizza that nobody seems to talk about as much. It feels like their best kept secret as it came to no surprise how delicious this pizza is. Best way to grab ahold of this after hours (until 7pm) is to order online.
