Boogaloos is in the coolest building that dates back to 1927 when it was a posh drugstore. To my untrained eye, the architecture has a Moroccan flair. Massively restored in 2018 after a fire, Boogaloos reopened to much fanfare and long lines that continue. I was up for trying Boogaloos off "Too Good to Go" though after I reserved our bag, I realized many of their menu items like eggs, tofu scramble and pancakes are difficult translated into to-go portions if not eaten right away. So kudos for Boogaloos' ingenuity they boxed up beautiful seasoned potatoes and deliciously sticky-sweet plantains. They also included a half pint of grapes and cantaloupe. We took their potatoes, heated them stovetop and enjoyed with our additions of scrambled eggs, fresh basil and maple/apple sausage. I came in on a gloomy Saturday to have brunch with my girlfriend. I haven't been here in years. The staff was incredible, they checked on us, multiple times, free coffee refills kept coming in. They had one vegan option but the Nick's polenta was bland to be honest. The vegetables were just steamed and the black beans really didn't have much flavor. I feel that the whole entire dish visually colorful; lacked flavor. Also, after sitting there with the door closed for over an hour, it got fairly smokey from all the cooking. Boogaloo's is nostalgic for me. Back in the 90s, it was THE place to go for brunch. We'd wait in line to get in. I'd usually get the Temple O' Spuds, a concoction that is still on the menu today. I had a friend visiting from outta town, they wanted to explore the mission and suggested Boogaloos as our meetup stop for brunch. We got there on a Saturday after noon, and were able to get seated right away. The space is old-school diner vibes which I enjoyed. I'm not much of a breakfast person, so decided to go with their chicken pesto sandwich. I didn't have high hopes, but was surprised and how flavorful the sandwich was overall. The fries were good too. Not sure if it was 1000 island sauce, but it was a really good dip. My girlfriend got their chorizo quesadilla, and that was hefty, and tasty. The service was a bit rough around the edges. However, what I loved about this place was the portion size and price. Lots of food for the price and I think it's good value. My friend and I decided to stop by on Sunday around lunch time because we wanted to get brunch after visiting the kitty cafe. It wasn't too busy yet, so we were able to be seated immediately. The Waffle Special had bananas and strawberries which gave light sweetness to the dish. The waffle was soft and the scrambled eggs were fluffy and tasty. The bacon was a bit too dry and hard rather than crispy. Next time, I have to try a different side instead. My friend let me try her potatoes, and it was flavorful and soft. I typically go for sweet and savory dishes, so I felt that this had both elements. The place had cool art lined on the walls and some plants. The tables had cool pages and art decor which gave it this casual, artsy, vintage diner type of vibe. Our waitress was attentive and kind, checking on us periodically, refilling our waters when we were running low. It was great service. This is a nice casual diner with American and Latin American dishes and it had a good mix of typical breakfast foods that you would see in a brunch spot. The chicken cilantro soup was a pleasant surprise, and was slightly spicy and very flavorful. Plantains are a must and eating it with the beans makes it perfect. Came here on a Sunday morning. Parking can be difficult if you're driving so you may find yourself parking a few blocks away from the restaurant. When you arrive, there is a sign in sheet by the door to put down your name, party size, seating preference. We waited about 10mins to be seated. Vibe is casual. They have a large menu which I love because a lot of other places I've been to have limited options for breakfast. To start, we had the Bloody Mary and fresh grapefruit juice. For my meal I got the tofu scramble with ranchero sauce which comes with potatoes and your choice of toast (all vegan). It was so good, every bite of the tofu had so much flavor from the ranchero sauce. Potatoes were nice and crispy on the outside and soft inside. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict with hash browns and a side of pork sausage. He thoroughly enjoyed his food. Servers work as a team to put out food and drinks in a timely manner. It was a filled restaurant by the time we came so we waited ~15min to be seated, but the staff was kind and quick to help us. I still come here often. I like the ambiance/vibe, and I like most of the food. The desayuno tipico is delicious with a sweet plantain cake! Often the wait time at Boogaloos is reasonable nowadays (in 2023), which is a nice change when you compare it to other SF brunch restaurants like Plow or Zazie. My biggest pain point is the ventilation, it often feels stuffy and hot inside the restaurant. The kitchen smells are strong at times too. Also the menu could get some updating, can we please have some more of the vegan options (maybe "just eggs," or faux cheese for the quesadilla)? read more

As for the space, the Boogaloos interior is comfortable, with ample outdoor seating, and it has a friendly and efficient staff. Regarding my order it was a generous serving of Bacon, Potato, Plantain and Fresh Fruit. To be honest the fruit is in the fridge because the servings were so ample, but I did enjoy the bacon that was not overly crisp which I enjoyed, flavorful potatoes, and properly cooked plantains. We didn't wait too long before getting seated. I got the Chorizo and Eggs Hash with scrambled eggs. The portion is pretty big and it came out pretty quickly. Honestly a very solid hash - no frills. Boogaloos, beloved Boogaloos. Before I really knew about Boogaloos, I loved Boogaloos. When I got to know Boogaloos just a little, I loved Boogaloos like I love the Pork Store. Then there was a fire or something, and Boogaloos was closed. Then it popped up weekly on Sundays at Parada 22 on Haight Street, and Boogaloos grew even more Beloved. Then the original on 22nd Street reopened, and I braved a Sunday brunch rush alone--yes, I waited in line alone on a weekend morning in the Mission--in order properly to review it as part of ToTMW (year unknown, sadly). Would I breakfast at beloved Boogaloos regularly, or would I rest on my ToTMW laurels like I did with so many other Mission District haunts? And then my building burned down, and my new building is close enough that I often order takeout Boogaloos for a late lunch. I still eat in occasionally, but it's good to go as well. In person, I almost always order the Boogaloos Classic. That gravy! Yum. To go, I almost always order a half-order of Temple O'Spuds with a sunny-side-up egg on top. The soyrizo is good, as is Nicky's Polenta. I've never had anything I didn't like, and I've been here dozens of times over the years. The food quality is consistent, and the portions are large. The people who work here are nice, especially if you're a regular. I just really wish they were open later. If you've always wanted to fall in love with Boogaloos but haven't wanted to wait in one of those weekend lines, just come on any weekday morning. The place is never empty, although there are often only one or two other parties here when you arrive. Although I don't visit it as often as I did the Divis Herbivore (RIP) back in the day, I now realize that beloved Boogaloos is my new Herbivore. No, nothing can ever been the same as it was in 2012, but it can be similar. Eat here! Often! read more

I came here on a Saturday for brunch and it was poppin'! Make sure that you're either here early or don't come too hungry to avoid getting hangry because most likely you'll have to wait. You sign up on a clipboard upon arrival and have the option to sit inside or outside (that was a nice option). I waited between 20-25 minutes before being seated inside. It was a chilly day so the outside tables had a faster turnover. I ordered the chorizo and hash scramble. It was really yummy and had that some of that yummy chorizo flavor. The potatoes were crispy which I was a huge fan of! The only downside was that I prefer my food, especially Mexican food, with a little more sazón so I sprinkled salt & black pepper on top and had ketchup mixed with Tapatío on the side for the extra zap.
