One could say - not another coffee house. But I would just hold on a minute. This place offers different options in coffee that I do not see in other places. If you're a coffee aficionado (which I am not) I think this place is worth the try. I did order their chai - it was ok. And their cowardly Brutus salad...totaling to a whopping $15 for two items... let's say stick to the coffee and pastries...salads a bit expensive for what it is...but coffee is good. Ambiance is definitely awesome. Laid back. Cool murals -Afro-centric and some other cultures...which is definitely refreshing. read more

Excellent coffee and service. One of the best coffee places on the south end of Seattle in Renton. It is a little noisy, especially when they run the coffee toaster inside the cafe that sounds like a shop vac. Lots of pastry selection including gluten free options from flying apron. read more

What a fun, unique coffee shop! Our drinks were phenomenal, and yummy. The staff was knowledgeable and the restaurant was clean. We loved experiencing a coffee shop outside of the major chains. Haven't left a review in years, I think. Felt compelled to write one ass I sit in this lovely place while I still have the experience in my head. A great big clean space that is one of the greatest additions to this neighborhood in as long as I remember. Super friendly staff. I didn't know what to get and lovely lady at the counter listed a couple of her favorites and when I heard "rose cardamom latte" that immediately sounded like the one. Sipping it right now and it definitely is. The rose is perceptible, but faint (which I prefer). The perfect cardamom is in the spotlight, but not so powerful as to make you forget that you are drinking a coffee drink. Probably the best espresso drink I've ever had. There is no reason to go to a Starbucks to work or study if you're in around Renton. Try it out, great energy in here. I'll try to make this a regular weekend visit. read more

Recommend coming here if you're looking to grab a delicious cup of coffee, some pastries, or just wanting to get some work done. Super cute and spacious cafe in the heart of downtown Renton and we were immediately welcomed by the warm atmosphere. We got a vanilla bean latte and a slice of their squash bread. The barista ended up giving us another cup because he thought the latte art on the previous one wasn't as good as he wanted (but to us it still looked amazing), which we thought was so nice and cute of him! The coffee was honestly spot on, wasn't too bitter nor too sweet. And the taste and consistency of the squash bread was also great Definitely will be coming back :) read more

I walked to check out the installation of the Renton Rooftop Dragon (3rd & Wells). Then walked to the new Boon Boona coffee shop. This place is so amazing. The decor and staff give off such a cool coffee shop feel. Ordered a rose cardamom cappuccino. Was not only beautiful but delicious and smooth. There was just enough sweetness and had the most amazing soft aromas of roses and spice of cardamom. It was an experience. They even have beer on tap from Four Generals. They serve pastries from Macrina and Ellenos yogurt. Can't get any more local support than that. I don't do coffee much but will definitely be back. Renton is getting fancy with dragons and coffee! read more

I was driving around Renton on a rainy Saturday morning when I checked Yelp for local bakeries. This came up in a list of black owned businesses so I decided to check it out. BLM. They had a good curbside set up even though it was drizzling, with a protective awning over the building no one got wet while waiting on sidewalk. The purchase table was near the door and the service was friendly. While I was waiting for my breakfast sandwich I had a nice chat with one of the other customers outside. The staff is super friendly. I ordered the cowboy breakfast Jack, melted cheese a brioche bun and some kind of chewy patty. The whole thing was satisfying and delicious nice and hot and the cheese was super melted. I would go back again read more

I don't drink coffee. But the pastries and sandwiches are good, though they are all made offsite. The space is vast. The space is clean. The staff is very nice. Amazing culture and community focused coffee shop. Creates a very welcoming and engaging experiencing. Variety of African coffees roasted in house and available in many different great drinks. Great coffee and a great atmosphere! I am originally from Ethiopia and resides in LA and I am here for the new year holiday with my family. I was yelping a coffee shop suitable for working on my laptop and BOON BOONA COFFEE is a perfect match. I really like the traditional Macchiato here. It's very tasty and original! There's also a lot of seating area if you're looking to hang out or do some work. I had a chance to meet and chat with Efrem, a young nice guy who is the owner of the shop and he told me how passionate he is about coffee and the making. Set up a business meeting here. There is a good amount of seating and it's not extremely loud with people or music. The barista was very nice and went over the full menu of offerings for us newbies. Love the coffee! Nice rich flavors without the over-roasting that is all too common in most coffee. I really only care for coffee from maybe 3-4 roasters in all of Seattle and you are one of them. Also nice work getting a quote in the NYT. Sorry to hear bean prices are going up but I'm happy to pay whatever is needed to keep your margins reasonable. Keep up the good work! read more

Me and the person behind me ordered sandwiches and took over 20 minutes for them to make it! I went up to ask them on the progress on my sandwich (i was almost done with my coffee by that point) and the person making them told me to wait in a rude manner. I understand that sometimes food can take some time (the shop wasnt that busy though) but even then I dont understand why she was hostile for no reason. read more

First time stopping here for a coffee. This place has a really good vibe.. packed with people, spacious, a large variety of coffee selection and some pastries and breakfast items. I was watching the baristo who was making the speciality coffees and put pretty arts on the coffee as he finished. We chatted a bit and I asked if he can surprise me with something different. The best espresso in Renton! The Ethiopian is so yummy and I'll be coming back. Impressive compared to its competitors. Omg, we walked out of another coffee shop because it looked like a hoarder lived there just before we stumbled across this coffee place. This is a great place to study, and they've got pretty good coffee for a decent price. Wifi is kind of slow, but manageable. It's a very big coffee shop lots of seating and outlets, little loud but manageable with headphones or with a group of friends. read more

Matcha latte was good and not sweet like Starbucks. Chocolate croissant on the other hand was not good at all and overly overpriced. It tasted no different to costco croissant except that you get one here but get the whole dozen at Costco with the same price. These 2 items costed $12!! Parking was tough. After circling 4 times, found the spot a couple blocks away. Probably won't return. read more

I'm sorry but this is just not my preferred style of coffee as it tends to be too light and has somewhat of a fruity finish. Call me Old Skool, but I just enjoy a bold and robust, Italian Roast, cup of coffee. Nice place, nice people though, just not for me. read more

First time stopping by this coffee shop after Living in Renton for more than 2 years I decided it was time to give it a try the reason why it took so long is because it's located right in downtown and there is never any parking I happened to pass by at 9:30 this morning and there were is a spot right in the front so I figured let's give it a try. It was very crowded and lively unfortunately they were our of vanilla syrup so I went with the brown sugar cinnamon latte as reccomended by the cashier . She specifically asked me 3 different times if this was to go or for here and each time I said to go. It was about 16.00 for an 8oz latte and a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich plus my 20% tip , I like to tip generously as i have worked in the industry before. About 10 minutes later my coffee is ready and not hot , more like a step above luke warm but not hot enough to warm you up on a cold morning but it was delicious and smooth. The sandwich on the other hand was served on a plate when i repeated 3x that this was to go. I asked the person who called out my name for my order if he could put it in a togo box as that how I ordered it at the register , he literally handed me a bag to do It myself and I gave him the " are you kidding me look" "he was not kidding he didnt even care" I ordered to go because im not going to eat this right now Im not going to pick up my food that im going to put in my mouth with my dirty hands like seriously . So i go to the counter grab a napkin to pick the sandwich up to put in the bag. Left the coffee shop annoyed because of this I am now regretting that 20% tip. I get home and im sure all of you know what happens when melted cheese gets on napkins it get stuck and then to top it off most of the bacon was completely under cooked other than a small visibly cook piece on my picture. Well this was a bust for 16 bucks I dont think I will be returning as lovely as the coffee was my first and only experience was just not worth it :( . read more

Been back multiple times and updating to five stars bc although I still dislike their drip coffee, their espresso drinks are really good (ie lattes and cappuccinos) and though I haven't seen the lavender cake anymore, their muffins and spinach cheese danish have been satisfying and I've grown quite fond of their biscotti. For moms, they have a monthly King County Library sponsored storytime that is super fun to attend! read more

Established in 2012.

Boon Boona Coffee was launched with the aim of sourcing the highest quality coffee from East Africa, the birthplace of coffee. In collaboration with coffee farmers across many East African nations we look to develop long lasting relationships and support the sustainability of their crops. Unroasted Green Coffee is a necessity for the East African community who have been roasting coffee in their homes for many generations. Seattle is considered a major coffee-hub, but even in Seattle, unroasted green coffee is at times difficult to come across. Founder, Efrem Fesaha began his journey into coffee after seeing the East African community in Seattle struggle to find quality and consistency in their coffee. We have now expanded beyond green coffee to a full line of roasted coffees and a cafe / roastery in downtown Renton.

Do they really allow dogs?

We went one of the first weekends they were open. We checked Yelp to make sure dogs allowed was listed and took our two leashed dogs in with us. The owner waited on us and even made a foam portrait of one of our pups on my latte.

Parking around the streets touching here and the Hyatt Regency Lake Washington at Seattle's Southport is not advisable since it's very limited. There is a paid parking garage near the Hyatt you can use, or you can use the nearby Coulon Park parking lot and walk over here like I did. There's no seating inside here; instead there's tons of treats, merch, tea bags, gummies and other products on tables and shelves filling up the right-hand side of the interior. There's also a grassy background where you can take photo ops of yourself and/or your drinks. Up at the front counter to the left-hand side of the entrance are two kiosks you can use to punch in the drinks you want. The menu is also up behind the counter as well. For this visit, I got their tiramisu milk tea with boba. The tiramisu foam ayer was large enough that when I stirred the whole drink in, I could taste the tiramisu's slight coffee-like, earthy hints throughout. The milk tea itself is very strong as I could taste the bitter undertones of the tea easily after just one sip. Also love how they put their drinks in a plastic container shaped like a can! As for their boba, I actually don't mind them being much smaller than many other boba places. They're both small and very chewable, and still look very good sinking to the bottom of the drink in case a photo op is needed. Regular size boba would take up too much space inside the can anyway. Overall drink was a tad too sweet though. This is one of the few places that come to mind for me when someone asks me what boba places there are around the Renton area, as I've gotten great drinks here for every visit since 2021. There was a situation where a person was waiting in line, just standing a little to the side, and some employees started acting like he was trying to skip the line and began confronting him for no reason. Instead of normal customer service, there was attitude, accusations, and disrespectful behavior. Another uncomfortable situation was with the language. When someone clearly understands Russian or Ukrainian but deliberately responds in English and acts like they don't understand the customer, it looks disrespectful and unprofessional. Especially when it is obvious that the person understands what is being said. Again, the café itself may be okay, but the main group working behind the counter really ruins the experience. Customers should be treated with respect, regardless of what language they speak or where exactly they are standing while waiting in line. Very unpleasant experience. I hope the owners pay attention to how their employees treat customers.

We ordered a golden latte, which had ginger turmeric and oat milk among other things. My son had a steamed milk. And we ordered a smoked salmon croissant. The croissant was fine, but little one wasn't in the mood to eat. Or sit, for that matter. Anyway, great working spot or just to meet with friends! I actually had to park behind the building then look at other Yelp reviews to find out that there is parking on gravel near their dumpsters closest to LaShaun Daye Hair. Though I don't know if the parking lot where this building and E Marginal Way meet can also be used...street parking in this area was scarce, contrary to most Yelp reviews I've read. Anyway, I came to an empty but very chill interior with several tables and window seating, along with some semi-quiet VPop playing near the front counter to the right-hand side of the entrance. There's a small flower display along with the cafe logo a little to the back which is perfect to take photo ops with your drink and food like I did. The menu is above the front counter and - as their logo says - they specialize in banh mi and coffee, though they have some matcha and soup options among others. Staff at the front were very quick at making my coffee as I was the only one inside. I got their 16oz egg coffee, which is one of their best sellers according to the asterisk on their menu next to the name of the drink. Very strong phin-dripped Vietnamese coffee along with condensed milk and an egg foam that gave a sweet, creamy taste to the already bitter coffee at the bottom. Drinking the egg foam first, it's a nice, thick custard-like format that the coffee does not overtake, which is good since other places I've had don't have that kind of balance. My next trip back here will have to be for another one of their coffee drinks and their banh mi sandwiches as well. PARKING: The place isn't very big but there is plenty of street parking available. There's also a small lot by the convenience store nearby. There are limited seats if you choose to sit and enjoy your coffee. They have a couple tables on the side, or you can sit on the stools along the window. I think the place felt a little empty. It could use a couple more tables and chairs along the window instead of the stools. This layout kind of felt like a Baskin Robbins or a small local ice cream shop. SERVICE: I didn't see anyone at first when I walked in, but there was someone to ready to take my order by the time I got to the counter. She took my order then I took a seat at the table until she called me to grab me from my order. Not much else for service. FOOD: I mainly went here for the coffee, but I figured I should try the sandwich while I was there. I ordered the bánh mì đặc biệt (house special sandwich) and the cà phê trứng (egg coffee). The sandwich to me was alright at best. The flavors were unbalanced. I mostly tasted the chả over the other cuts and the meat was pretty cold. I get that it's called a "cold cut" for a reason, but it was really cold and kind of threw off the sandwich. The bread would've been better toasted, or at least have the option to toast it. The one thing I enjoyed was the amount of pate used. The coffee on the other hand was decent. I've been in search of more places that serve egg coffee and I usually get it every chance I get. I found it a bit weird that it comes iced. I usually get an option to choose if I want it hot or cold. It didn't specify on the menu and I was never asked. So I just assumed it was not iced because the only thing that was iced was the cà phê sữa đá. Well I was wrong... The egg part was super thick, fluffy, and creamy. It was the right amount of sweetness and saltiness too. Honestly it might be the best egg cream I've had on a coffee, but it would have been much better if the coffee was warm. I just think egg coffee should be served hot. It's a personal preference. The ice keeps the egg cream on top and I can't really mix the whole thing evenly. I would've enjoyed it more if every sip was a even mixture of egg cream and coffee. OVERALL: At the end of the day, I enjoyed this place. There are a couple small improvements that would've changed my experience. I did enjoy the coffee and that's what I originally came for. The sandwich honestly wasn't bad, but I think I would try the thịt nướng next time. Some places just do one or the other better. I think it's harder the get the cold cut sandwich right vs the grilled pork. Overall it's a nice little meet up spot and I would come back again just for the egg coffee.

They were out of some food items but I was able to find something. I got the mini croissant that had sausage and egg and a lemon poppyseed muffin top because who doesn't love those! Love this spot and will be back if I'm ever in the area. Other people love it too because the drive thru line is constantly backed up to the traffic light.
