Unfortunately, the coffee itself feels rather blasé, as though it were merely incidental to the aesthetic project, had high hopes but fell short. One senses that considerable effort has gone into cultivating the idea of a coffee shop, while the actual coffee is left to fend for itself. The larger issue is the insistence on hipness. There is something faintly exhausting about the whole performance: the studied minimalism, the knowing atmosphere, the sense that you have wandered onto a particularly well-lit side street in Brooklyn circa 2014. And, with affection to Seattle, this isn't NYC. It doesn't need to cosplay as one. To be fair, there is plenty to admire if your primary concern is atmosphere and Instagrammability. But coffee should ultimately taste like something worth getting out of bed for, rather than merely providing a prop for the room. Nice coffee shop with coffee beans sourced from Africa. I try to get unique drinks when I visit a coffee shop as I can always drink black coffee or latte or anything standard at home or at the office. Here, I got the berbere mocha which is a mocha with berbere, an Ethiopian spice blend, which adds a nice dimension of flavor. The latte was $7 + tax which can be steep, for 12oz, but the drink is very high quality and super easy to drink. I came in at 7:30 for their seasonal iced strawberry matcha latte 12oz. The size is great, it looked nice. Upon mixing the drink, I could BARELY taste the the matcha. IMO, it's straight up strawberry milk with the slightest hint of matcha. I wouldn't get it again. I also got a beef curry okazu warmed up. Delicious, crunchy, fresh. The two workers who were present was friendly and seemed like they had really good connections with the community, recognizing people coming in! Also, whoever was on music, 10/10. I called in advance to see if its ok to bring a dog in to order take out which the person i spoke to said yes, but upon arrival i was told that even ordering takeout inside with the dog is not allowed! I appreciate their firm answers but definitely wish the prior communication was aligned. We have been wanting to support this company and finally made it in. They were out of most food by 10:30am, which they didn't have much of a selection. We bought one of their $8 breakfast sandwiches. Located close to SeattleU, right next to the tennis courts (love going here before morning tennis). They have a large selection of beans and make great espresso/milk drinks. They also offer indoor/outdoor seating. I wouldn't recommend the tea here though, as the seasonal iced tea I got tasted mostly like syrup. Dropped by yesterday to try one of the house made rootbeers which is a special going on for a collaboration between Intentionalist and SEAtoday. During the week of 7/25-7/31 a $1 fir a pirchase of each of the rootbeer will go towards a local food bank. First all loved all the business that were involved in this project. This was my first time visiting this location. it's smaller than the Renton space but love this space more I think. The reclaimed wood on the counter and wall behind the baristas is a nice tooch as well ad the logo etched on a glass panel. Cute outdoor seating options. Parking was easy for us to find around 12:30. The staff was friendly and helpful. If I ever found myself in the area zi would definitely find an excuse to visit and hang around for a bit. read more

Excellent cafe located just right across the street from Seattle University. They have beautiful artwork on the walls and there is a park right next to it. Right now they have a fall menu. I really liked their Salted Pumpkin Caramel latte. SO much more delicious than another well known PSL! I'm excited to give their Hojicha latte a try too! They have a nice selection of baked goods available. If you go early you can get discounted baked good from the day before (they still taste really good). Never visited Boon Boona's original site in Renton, but noted their new Central District location across the street from Seattle University's campus. Typical for most new construction with retail and food establishments at street level and housing above. On a grey, cloudy Saturday afternoon, I decided to check out this new cafe (5/22/21). It is located along 12th Avenue, bookended with the 12th Avenue Square Park and the new Carmelo's Tacos. Interior is sleek and modern. Definitely smelled terrific, rich coffee roasting scent. Pleasant counterperson with striking glittery eyeliner. Disco tunes playing overhead. Too bad no interior seating, but ample outdoor seating. Thank goodness I wore a thick hoodie, a bit chilly today. Not much baked goods selection left, just some scones. I opted for a 16 oz mocha...ouch $6 plus I blindly opted for a $2 tip. Yes, I'm a dork. I'll call it paying it forward for good karma. My mocha had too much foam and not hot enough. Flavor was decent and thankfully not cloying. Cool cup design. Paid for street parking, so will sit a bit and complete this review. But feeling chilly brrrr. I'm sure they get a lot of business along a major arterial. Great to check out if in the vicinity. Sp happy this location opened in Seattle! I'm not sure if this is Capitol Hill or First Hill, but it's much closer to me than the Renton location. This place serves up amazing coffee, great merch and tasty morning treats. The staff is wonderful and I always gave a great experience. The open patio the cafe opens up onto is perfect on a nice day and I spend plenty of time walking to this location and chatting with friends. A welcome addition to the neighborhood! Boon Boona is on that strip of 12th near Seattle U that has lots of casual dining, bars and coffee shops. I've always wanted to try their coffee, but didn't want to hike out to Renton... and now I don't have to! They just opened this week, so the menu (pictured) may be a little pared-down for now. It's your basics: espresso drinks, tea, chai latte, matcha. They did have a pastry case with a few baked goods, but not a full food menu just yet. There's also a counter with bags of their own beans and other merchandise. The interior is bright and spacious, with some interesting art on the walls. Seating is outdoors only for now, with a bar and a couple of small tables, but there's a room off to the side that looks like it will have seating in future, and plenty of space for tables inside. Everything is socially distanced and they even use tongs to hand you a coffee lid, so it all feels very safe and clean. The owner was super friendly and welcoming, and helped me decide what to order. I got the seasonal special, an iced orange blossom latte. It was well made and had a nice, subtly sweet citrus flavor. I'm hoping they will eventually do Ethiopian coffee service here, which I've heard they offer at the Renton location. I'm looking forward to coming back as they get settled in and add more to the menu! Another great option in the Central District, and you can support a local Black-owned business. read more
