    Berbere mocha - IG @bougiefoodieboi
    Kyle W.

Nice coffee shop with coffee beans sourced from Africa. I try to get unique drinks when I visit a coffee shop as I can always drink black coffee or latte or anything standard at home or at the office. Here, I got the berbere mocha which is a mocha with berbere, an Ethiopian spice blend, which adds a nice dimension of flavor. The latte was $7 + tax which can be steep, for 12oz, but the drink is very high quality and super easy to drink. Next time, I would check out their original store in Renton to see if the quality is consistent or better!

Peak chill vibes for working or reading. Amazing and interesting drinks. The baristas were really friendly and helpful. They have some bakery and snacks too from other local spots. I would definitely come back!

Baristas are always so kind! Ive been multiple times and I've never had a bad experience. I was debating between the apple chai and the smoked maple drink, and the barista helping me was helpful and attentive than just trying to get me to hurry and order. I got the apple chai on their fall menu and it was super good! Plenty of seating room. It's been busy before, especially during the school year, but I've never not been able to find a seat.

Super cute spot for some coffee/drinks. There is street parking available in front and across the street from the store. I ordered from the Summer Menu (I'm writing this very late I know, sorry lol) and I got the Iced Strawberry Matcha as well as the Lychee Rhubarb Strawberry Iced Tea. Both drinks were very refreshing and not too sweet which I liked. I wasn't able to order any coffee during my visit but I look forward to coming back and trying their coffee next time.

The classic matcha was a bit bland, but the strawberry matcha was surprisingly good you can taste the real strawberry. Coffee is pretty average, but the staff is super friendly, which makes the visit nice overall

Great coffee joint with eclectic selections, nice service and spacious interior - also very near Ba Bar and Seattle U. Check it out!

I came in at 7:30 for their seasonal iced strawberry matcha latte 12oz. The size is great, it looked nice. Upon mixing the drink, I could BARELY taste the the matcha. IMO, it's straight up strawberry milk with the slightest hint of matcha. I wouldn't get it again. I also got a beef curry okazu warmed up. Delicious, crunchy, fresh. The two workers who were present was friendly and seemed like they had really good connections with the community, recognizing people coming in! Also, whoever was on music, 10/10. Again, I came in early to work. I could focus well with headphones or not. I found the music to be quite loud. Overall, great vibes and service. Food was okay, drinks were meh.

    I love this blend!

The staff was super nice & it is so cute inside! My coffee was not as strong as I usually prefer so I think I'll add an extra shot next time.

We have been wanting to support this company and finally made it in. They were out of most food by 10:30am, which they didn't have much of a selection. We bought one of their $8 breakfast sandwiches. Not worth $8. We also drank a Cortado and an Americano. I wouldn't buy either again, the coffee beans tasted almost burnt and watered down. We were happy it said it was a dog friendly establishment online, but I always double check. The woman looked at us and said "Only well behaved dogs our allowed". Our dog is a quiet, shy 4 year old small dog patiently waiting outside the door. (Under 20lbs) The best part of this place is their design and swag.

Located close to SeattleU, right next to the tennis courts (love going here before morning tennis). They have a large selection of beans and make great espresso/milk drinks. They also offer indoor/outdoor seating. I wouldn't recommend the tea here though, as the seasonal iced tea I got tasted mostly like syrup. I didn't realize they exclusively serve African coffees, so I'd like to go back and learn more about that next time.

Friendly, quick service & good coffee. There is a nice atmosphere and a great place to catch up with friends, study or hang out.

Unlike the majority of coffee shops I've tried in Seattle, Hello Em has ample parking right on the same street, which was a HUGE relief when I was running hungry and borderline hypoglycemic. When I walked in earlier this morning, I was warmly greeted by a staff member who, after I mentioned it was my first visit, thoughtfully walked me through their top-selling items. Bonus: while waiting for my food and beverage, I explored and was mesmerized by the beautifully curated aesthetic and Vietnamese decor, which was thoughtfully designed and made my wait enjoyable. I ordered an iced Cà Phê Brûlée (torched egg coffee), which turned out to be such a creamy, decadent treat once I stirred the torched top into the strong roast beneath it. For food, I was torn between the Sữa đặc (condensed milk) Pandan Croissant and the Ăn Sáng (breakfast) croissant so I decided to just order both. The Pandan Croissant was sweet and buttery, while the Breakfast Croissant was a protein-rich, savory blend of honey ham, Chả lụa (Vietnamese ham), omelet, and a light spread of mayo. I left full, caffeinated, and BEYOND impressed. If you're after high quality Vietnamese coffee and pastries paired with warm, attentive service, Hello Em is well worth the trip!!!!

Definitely a hopping place at the end of the workday. It's got a darker ambiance and it's cozy. It has indoor, outdoor, and patio seating, though we chose to stay indoor. Pro tip - the poofs make you sit REALLY low. The food choices around 1pm were dismal, and limited. Maybe they'd sold out, or maybe they just don't have a lot there, but nothing even looked fresh enough to warrant purchase. The other thing that killed me was the service. There was one person on the entire 4 hours I was there, and it made for an incredibly slow experience. It was friendly enough, if not a little dismissive. Prices are reasonable and there is paid parking across the street, but take that with a "for Seattle" caveat.

The staff at the time were warm (Michael was the best), knew regulars by name, and made every visit feel special. The coffee was excellent and it felt like a true neighborhood gem. Over time, the people who made this place so memorable moved on, and with them went the quality and the warmth. I opted to support other local coffee shops instead. I returned recently to use a reward I had accumulated, excited to see how things had changed since my last visit. When I asked to check my rewards balance before ordering, I was told I could only do so after completing the transaction. Every other coffee shop I frequent allows this beforehand, so I pushed back to clarify. What followed was one of the most unwelcoming interactions I have experienced at any business. The staff member's tone was hostile and dismissive from the moment I asked a simple question, and it did not let up. I felt uncomfortable enough to cancel my order entirely. When I asked for a receipt to confirm my refund, she threw it away in front of me. A colleague had to ask her again on my behalf, and she snapped that she had already discarded it. Another customer standing nearby witnessed this exchange and looked visibly appalled. I reached out to the owner privately before leaving a public review, hoping to have a real conversation. She chose not to follow up with me about my experience. Instead, she wrote back to say she had already spoken with her staff and that a separate customer had contacted her to say I was the problem, and that her team had handled everything with grace. She closed by suggesting I had not met a basic standard of respect. I want to be clear: the customer she referenced appeared to be acquainted with the barista. I will leave readers to draw their own conclusions about whose account was actively sought out. I also want to note that I am not alone in this experience. Other reviewers here have flagged the same pattern of cold, unwelcoming service at this location. That tells me this is not an off day. It is worth reading those reviews before you visit. The refund for items that were never made has still not been processed, four days later, which caused me to have to reach out to an owner again. I have now been refunded. I share all of this because I think people deserve to know what to expect, both at the counter and if something goes wrong. This is not the place I once loved, and the ownership's response confirmed that.
