Don't believe the bad reviews. We had perch and ribs with all the fixings at a price you can't beat in this area. The batter on the fish was perfect! Crispy and seasoned. The ribs were so tender and the portion sizes were immense. If you don't want to be disappointed and want some excellent drinks, this is the place to stop. Great atmosphere and our server kassidy was fantastic. She was so sweet and nice. Lassitude was quick with orders and bringing food and drinks. She also made sure we had everything we needed! By far some of the best service we've had in a while! I had the fish and chips. A little pricey but you get a very large serving size. Lots of fish in the order! Two visits - Two Different Experiences... While on vacation with my family and friends, we visited Boone Dock twice. There is a huge outdoor seating area, but we chose to go indoors on both occasions. First Visit: The Toasted Black Bean Twigs were quite good and resembled a spring roll in the shape of a taquito. The Barkeater Sandwich was OK, but nothing special. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall, a good experience. Second Visit: The Michigan Side Salad was mediocre at best. The Barkeater still just OK (yes, got it again as eating vegetarian diet). Our service was pretty poor, especially as the server rolled her eyes at us when requesting separate checks. She did the bare minimum to "earn" the 18% gratuity she tagged on the bill. We spent much of the meal eating around dirty salad dishes, and getting a refill on soda was quite a feat. Beautiful restaurant but pricey and not the friendliest of staff. We were seated near the patio with open doors and asked to sit to another booth because it was chilly with the temperature dropping and the breeze. Then we found out the kitchen closes in 5 min. Like most restaurants in the area the prices are high. But the burgers are VERY GOOD. I think they were 1/2 lbs and I couldn't finish mine. Unfortunately our hotel room did not have a microwave so I couldn't take back leftovers. Altogether our meal for 1 adult and 2 kids was about $55 not including a tip. If the staff was a little more friendly towards us tourists I would've given a 4 rating. read more

Our part of seven was hoping for a moderately priced local dining experience on our day trip to town, but due to poor service and various other issues, I'm afraid we were disappointed. First, the food: it was decent, but not particularly special and probably not quite deserving of the price tag. I ordered an appetizer of fried zucchini chips, which were nothing special. For my entree I had the fresh whitefish. The fish itself certainly tasted fresh and good, and the beer-battered preparation was well done. It was a very large portion, and it came with rice and a side salad, so I was satisfied with the portion size for the price. However, the fish wasn't really seasoned at all. Adding the provided lemon certainly added to the flavor, but I could have used some seasoning as a part of the preparation. Lastly, they served the plate with a plastic mug forming the rice into a cylindrical tower. I appreciated the effort, but the mug itself looked melted and old, and that made a potentially appealing presentation into something off-putting. Second, the service. This was exceptionally disappointing. We were able to be seated quickly on a busy night (Labor Day), but we were left with barely enough space for our party, leaving three of us rather cramped. Our server was not particularly welcoming, and came to our table and started talking about the baseball game that was on, following up with "how can I help you?" Throughout the meal there were several issues, but one of the most severe is that the waiter didn't clear any dishes. Ever. So the table was overfull by the end of the meal, making it hard to even sign our checks. We had to ask to get water refills several times. When our food was brought out, I was given fish with a side of fries, not rice like I asked for. He went back to the kitchen to look into it, and returned with a new plate with the correct order, taking my old one away. I simultaneously hope that he didn't waste the nice piece of fish and that he didn't serve it to a different customer. It seemed like just replacing the side could have done the trick. Towards the end of the meal, it took us a long time for him to come around and give us our checks. But even worse than that, we literally had to tell him what was on each person's check again, even though he had written it down. He seemed to not even consider that we would want separate checks: I understand the inconvenience, but he at least should have been prepared for it. A few additional issues included: several flies buzzing around our table; a lack of condiments that went with the meals; and a general lack of friendliness. I wish this would have been a better dining experience. At least we have leftovers. read more

Boone's has great outdoor seating. The huge covered bar area offered a place out of the hot sun yesterday where we had lunch. The perch sandwich for $11 was worth it - it had 3 large pieces of fresh perch cooked just right. The burger was prepared correctly and very good. Baskets come with a pickle and kettle chips. The service was good although the food took a little longer than expected, but it was a nice day to sit and people watch. We ate supper here. We sat inside due to the rain which was a bummer but I didn't want to get wet while eating. The food was okay. I had boneless chicken wings (large portion)from the appetizers and a baked potato. My husband had ribs. He said they were very good. His side salad was very good too. We stopped here on the recommendation of some local residents while vacationing near Glen Arbor. We were going to skip it because of the Yelp average but we always trust the locals! It was a good choice! First of all, while we were here is was not busy so we had our waitresses full attention. I would agree that the menu consists of greasy bar food but that's what I would expect from a bar! If you want to eat healthy, there is another place down the street that would give you healthy options. We all ordered burgers. The Carnivora burger, BBQ Western Burger and the Italian Burger. The first two were excellent, highly recommended! The Italian burger was good but I would choose either of the other two if I were going to stop there again! It was a on the pricy side. $13.00 and up for a cheeseburger and fries, but we expected that as well. Glen Arbor is a bit off the beaten path, prices are usually higher in that type of location... it's all part of the experience. So, we did have a complaint and that is the cleanliness of the restrooms. They definitely needed to have some attention. We did not eat on the patio/deck so I cannot comment on that. We had to wait about 1 hr to even get our drinks, then it took about a half hr for every refill that we were able to get, and our waitress was awful, and food was about average if not below. The guy that seated us told us that if our group split tables that we had to split checks, then told us we couldn't have tables together. Boone Dock's is a place you go to for the atmosphere. In the summer, you can sit out the wooden deck and listen to live music, watch the tourists and locals stroll by on the street, and visit the few small shops located on the patio. In the winter, the inside is cozy with a large stone fireplace and lots of booths with views of the snowy streets. It's kinda pricey for the food, which is good, but not great. I like the barbeque pork sandwich- lots of meat and a good flavor. I would recommend this to visitors who are looking for good food in a great atmosphere. read more

The only redeeming quality of the restaurant was its outdoor patio and complimentary music. In contrast, the food and service were terrible. I ordered the broiled Lake Michigan white fish dinner. The coleslaw was fine. The broiled fish had a funky taste and smell. The mixed vegetables were a previously frozen medley available at GFS. My husband had the bacon, Swiss & mushroom burger with fries. He requested that the beef be prepared medium-rare, but it was well-done. He reported that his burger had a funny taste. The fries were 'meh'. The waitress was polite and answered our questions about the menu. Yet, there were very long lapses of inattentiveness--such as the extra-long wait for the food, the surprisingly long wait for the bill to be presented, and another long wait to have our credit card processed. When entering the restaurant that evening, there was a tell-tale sign that the service was poor. Both my husband and I independently noticed the enormous amount of food that was sitting on the kitchen counter waiting to be delivered to the tables. Came here on an overcast day. Surprisingly found out the veggie burger was fried and this was definitely an issue for my wife. She had salmon salad and the salmon was tasty and cooked well. Just had a really bad World Cup experience at Boone Docks. Owner would only put the game on inside and refused to put the sound on. Really? The bar had 20 World Cup viewers there eating and drinking. The majority of the entire staff is absolutely the worst of all the restaurants in Glen Arbor. And the worst of the worst is the gnarly, grumpy man that works the deck area. They all need to learn the basics of customer service and remember it's a privilege to have customers spend their time and money at their restaurant. It somehow has the feel of extreme cockiness from the minute you walk into this once friendly establishment. Terrible service. We walked into the restaurant from the back deck. A teenage hostess approached us and was irritated because we had walked into the "wrong" entrance and hadn't spoken with the hostess on the deck. We explained that we did not want to sit on the deck. She again told us that we shouldn't have come in through the deck then demanded that we follow her through the restaurant to the hostess station in the front, only to turn around and parade us back through the restaurant to a table next to where we first entered. All with a scowl. At that point, we got up and walked out only to pass by as she was talking ish about us to the deck hostess. The positives: Good sunny atmosphere. Food tasted okay. The negatives: Food took 40+ min to get to the table after we ordered. And we ordered burgers and salads, so that was inexcusable. The four burgers we ordered were all very overcooked...we ordered medium-rare and they came out well-done. No pink. Tasted okay, but disappointing. They must have been very understaffed, because in the hour and a half we were there (not including the 25 minute wait for a table), the waitress must have only come 4 or 5 times, and only refilled our beverages when we hailed her down as she was waiting another table. The men's bathroom was also gross, and the walls of the stall were covered with graffiti including explicit language. There was also holes in the wall near the floor, and looked run down. Unless we are looking for a place to just sit and wait for a couple hours in the sun, we will not plan on coming back to this restaurant. read more

Tourist trap! Some of the worst service I've ever received. The food is mostly dry and not enjoyable one bit. The music was good and the location is amazing but is overpriced and painfully slow. Do not recommend. The waitress did not introduce herself, she looked like she would rather be anywhere else and after her service we felt the same way, refused to take a drink order for another child at our table, didn't listen when we tried to place our food order, did not explain that bill splitting ended at 8 pm, and did not refill any drinks. Also after all the mess we asked the manager to take the outrageous gratuity tip off our bill, they told us our waitress went home but later we saw the same waitress come and get the bill. We found it ridiculous that they attempted to put a required tip on the bill even after the terrible service. Could be so much better if they tried... read more

The worst experience ever. "Something fishy" sandwich is absolutely horrible. The name totally describes the taste - fishy and nasty. The fish is cheep but the sandwich price is over $13. The company policy doesn't allow them to split the bill if you have 8 or more people.
