My family and I have dined at this vintage restaurant, with UpNorth decor, for over 32 years. The food has always been decent and service good, too. In these harder times, this restaurant needs more help. College kids were back in school. The tables were kind of greasy. Only two servers, who were very good, were exhausted. We were dining with a 2 year old, who was a little difficult and our kind waitress put in the order for the children right away. Their cheese pizza looked great. Nice call. Our orders came out not too long after, which makes me question, "How do you cook fish in less than 10 minutes, with a fresh vegetable? I ordered the wall eye with pesto and it came with zucchini. Everything was just all right. NOT a hot meal. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm, the fish seemed like it was cooked an hour ago and the zucchini was soggy with oil. The ribs are their best to claim, and were good. However, they also seemed like just warmed up with the BBQ sauce because my son said they were cold and he should have sent them back. There is outside seating but mostly bar counter height chairs so we chose to eat indoors, which was very nice. IF the food was cooked to order, and the food was HOT, and the tables were cleaned properly, it would rate a 5! in my book. However, not this time. I eat here at least 4 times per year, so hopefully next time, it will be better! I pray they do not close this gem on M-22 in downtown Glen Arbor. See you next time! read more

Decided to try the Western Avenue Grill in downtown Glen Arbor. Great spot for dinner right down town. Fish was a lightly battered perch which was very fresh. Good service despite being busy for a Monday night. Will definitely return. read more

My hubby and I went to Western Avenue Grill yesterday for an early dinner and enjoyed it so very much. On a cold, blustery Sunday in sleepy Glen Arbor, we were happy to find that it was open for business. The building's design is gorgeous, there were birch tree posts and accents, plus a fireplace that was quite inviting. We ordered the side salad to split and two bacon jam with gouda smash burgers. So delish! The side salad was the best I'd ever had in a restaurant; big enough for two. But the best surprise was our server, Patrick. He knows the area well, and we chatted pleasantly about a plethora of subjects. Such a hardworking, intelligent, amiable young man! Felt like we made a new friend. We will be driving over form TC often to eat here! read more

We come here every year when we are on vacation. The service is personable and efficient. Random, they serve pulled pork and it's my daughter's favorite pulled pork. They have the best fish pate that I have ever had. My other kid gets marinara and cheese sauce how can you do that wrong? It has indoor and outdoor seating. The food was good but scary how fast it came out, my bf made a comment that all the kitchen people must be on adderall, I said it has to be precooked and microwaved . Either way we still loved the crab cakes . My margarita came with sugar on the rim and orange, I wasn't asked about either of these things, I honestly prefer nothing on the rim. What a relaxing and yummy meal! Highly recommend! The ribs were great. Service was excellent.

Service is fine. Food is pretty bad, especially for the very high prices. $18 nachos were burned on the edges but came out super fast. Sour cream had hard chunks in it! We told the waitress and she brought a new cup but we were over it. One small scoop of whitefish pate that was OK but not worth $17 even if it came with what looked like a whole box of crackers. We tried this out. For no other options, it is simply okay. I tried the shrimp basket and it was decent. Our five year old enjoyed the cheese pizza. My husband got the walleye and said it could use more seasoning. The prices are outrageous for the quality. The cocktail I had was the best thing anyone had. We were in the area for a vacation and we came here to celebrate one of our peoples birthday. There were 9 of us and they sat all of us together and quickly. The waitress was great. Strong customer service skills, didn't mess up our order, offered suggestions for a ketoer, etc. I wish I could remember her name. The food was meh, at best. I ordered the fried shrimp basket. On the menu it doesn't say anything about it coming with coleslaw. So I ordered a side of coleslaw. Well, it came with coleslaw. The fries and slaw were good, the shrimp was ok & the sauce it came with was very good. Everyone else just said their food was ok. Nothing special. They wouldn't let us divide our bill per couple so we did 5 people on one bill & 4 on the other. My bill had double the gratuity amount! Fantastic service from a restaurant short staffed. Everyone happy to help and grateful to be open. Right on M22 in downtown Glen Arbor. Outdoor and indoor seating. Food general pub style, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, etc. Fish and chips was good, included cod, local whitefish and walleye lots of fries. Big portion. Special for evening was Parmesan crusted whitefish with black bean, tomato and corn salsa with vegetables and mashed red skin potatoes. Fish was great but nothing else. Salsa was made with canned tomatoes not fresh and just didn't work (my view only). Potatoes lumpy not creamy and vegetables just ok. Shame as had the potential for a great dish. Prices reasonable. Although this place has all the workings to be a great place, sadly it missed the mark for us. We came in on a Thursday evening during peak fall colors weekend. It was dead, like 2 people at the bar and 1 other table dead. I inquired about gluten free options and was told the whitefish was my only option, luckily I like fish. But it's pretty sad that in 2020 you don't have more than one option or at least something you can modify. Do I ordthe whitefish and my husband had the pulled pork sandwich. My parmsean encrusted whitewater really was a disappointment, it was utterly flavorless, quite bland and boring. I had to ask for lemons to try to salvage it. Along scenic M22, Western Avenue Grill is a great spot to grab a good meal! The outdoor seating area is open for business during covid conditions and the menu is full of options. I enjoyed the lasagna, which is one of my favorite foods and something that doesn't always impress me at restaurants. The lasagna at Western Avenue Grill was full of cheese, sauce, and deliciousness. However, they never mentioned that they added 20% service fee to the bill. They don't give you an itemized receipt. We didn't realize this until after. That's not right. We were going to give 20% tip anyway. But then we realized we ended up giving over 30 with the service charge. Why not mention that or add it, and give an itemized bill? Not right. read more

Odd experience. The ambiance and interior is cozy and woodsy. I really liked it, was warm inside too which is a must in winter months. Walked in and we weren't greeted until someone walked out and seemed confused as to what we needed. The food was pricey and nothing special. The key lime pie was great though! 3.5 stars. read more

Pretzel appetizer was rock hard and the cheese dip tasted terrible. Guacamole appetizer was mediocre and the chips were too hard. The $23 lobster penne pasta was disgusting. Burgers were over cooked, and the fries were incredibly over cooked and dry. The water and all water-based drinks tasted like sulfur. The salmon tasted had a horrendous taste. It's a shame to leave such a negative review, but this restaurant was mediocre last year, and when we came back today it was sad to see it has only gotten worse. This was one of our favorite restaurants to go to in the fall. We were left waiting at the door with many empty tables available which should have been our first clue on a Saturday night. After we were seated we ordered and our food came out very quickly. I ordered the special, a prime rib sandwich, thinking of a delicious, rare prime rib with au jus. What was set in front of me looked like two tiny grilled cheese sliders with a mound of fries. The "prime rib" was barely an eighth of an inch thick and gray. I couldn't even taste it with the thick bun and cheese. There was no au jus or anything to moisten it. I guess they had to put all the cheese on it so it wasn't all bread. This was hardly worth $20. We also had the fish and chips, which we have enjoyed before, but were overcooked and just tasteless and boring again with the embarrassing mountain of fries. The manager waited on us and told me I wouldn't be disappointed with the prime rib sandwich. She was right. I wasn't disappointed. I was shocked! She never asked if we wanted any more drinks or dessert just gave us the bill. I told the manager about the shocking lack of meat and her only retort was it was cooked fresh. That wasn't the problem. She obviously didn't care. We won't be back. read more

We stopped here after visiting Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore for a late lunch. Ordered cheeseburger with fries and flatbread with pesto. The waiter was very kind and efficient. Hubby bit into burger and it was raw. Sent it back when it came back they didn't put lettuce or tomatoes back on it. Sent it back again waiter apologized. The fries were soaking in grease and soggy. My flatbread had just a scant amount of pesto and loaded with cheese. Our friend joined us he ordered the cheeseburger and said well done. When he got his it was also raw. Sent it back and they offered him a free beer. Didn't offer us anything or any kind of discount. Again it wasn't the waiter but the cook. read more

Mediocre at best. Agree with previous review-when fried walleye (at 28.99) comes out in 4 minutes it makes one wonder. I asked the waiter what was in the seafood chowder and the answer was, "five different seafoods and some veggies." That tells you a lot! Even a smile would have helped!
