We had different carriers (AT&T and Cricket). I was able to transfer the AT&T service to the new phone myself, but the Cricket phone wouldn't let me. I ended up at this location to get help. The woman working there easily transferred service to the new phone, but she charged me $11.00 to do it! And while she was working on it, I got a text on the old phone welcoming me to "Cricket Protect." I immediately asked her what Cricket Protect was, and she said, "Oh, that's nothing." I asked if it would cost me anything, and she said no. I then asked, "So, my bill won't be increased going forward because of this?" She said, "No." Well, the next day, I tried to make a call and got a recording that due to my unpaid balance, my call couldn't be completed. Since this is a prepaid plan, I was confused at first. The recording gave me the opportunity to pay my balance over the phone, and then told me that I could reduce my services to lower my bill. I selected that option and was told by the recording that I could drop Cricket Protect (the service I was signed up for at the store and told was not going to increase my bill). I opted to drop Cricket Protect and was told that my unpaid balance was now only $4, which I went through the steps to pay. When I got to the end of the process, I was told that payments over the phone would have a service charge added to them. They could have mentioned that at the beginning! I declined to complete the payment and paid online (which has no additional fee). The end result is this: I've been with Cricket for years, but the day this happened, I changed to a different prepaid carrier.

In the event of a death as a loved one consumer cellular must be the worst service you might have…read more They will keep you trapped in your service contract forever. They will instruct you to turn off the loved ones phone send in a death certificate, all the while you cannot receive your bill because it is online no paper trail. You cannot receive your account # because you are now stuck. This has been going on since March 14, 2025. It is beyond me to be held responsible for a bill that is not being used. Both phones are incapacitated and there is no way to get that number transferred. All numbers as you know are attached to all billing. Can't pay bills without your number. Phone was lost. There is nothing we can do and consumer cellular has no compassion whatsoever. My suggestion would never enter an agreement with consumer cellular. Save yourself run.
