This is a review I don't want to write…read more Our 12-day road trip in honor of our being married 20 years was an incredible experience, which we shall cherish for the rest of our days. As much difficulty as I had planning it (for a variety of reasons I won't bore you with), everything ended up turning out GREAT. Ironically, though, the one place I was MOST excited to experience... Topside Inn... turned out to be our least favorite, and that makes me sad and even a little angry, and that's why I don't want to write the review. I've written many a negative review if a place warrants it, but this one still bothers me. It wasn't that it was horrible. No. In fact, I would probably say that our stay was even "decent" overall, but there were some annoyances and disappointments. I'll start with the disappointment. We stayed at this inn during our actual anniversary. The person assisting my travel agent friend who booked it said how excited they were at the inn. Here's the irony... not only did they do NOTHING for it, they couldn't even muster saying "oh, we heard it was your anniversary. Happy anniversary." NOTHING. Not one word. Not one gesture. Did I need them to do something? No. We had our own celebration, but at every other place we stayed for our 12-day trip, the other places somehow acknowledged our anniversary with kind words and/or some gesture... like a little box of chocolates or a 1/2 split of sparkling wine/champagne. Something. Did I expect anything? Not at all... but again, when the reservationist made an initial fuss over our anniversary being at THEIR place and how exciting it was, yeah, I expected at least a greeting. Now for the annoyances. I have a bad back and bad knee. The reservationist was given a full explanation of what our room needs would be. No stairs, easy access, difficulty with uneven ground, and they assured my travel agent friend they had the perfect room for us. They said the room would be on the ground level with no stairs involved. The problem is that they did not pay attention because I ended up dealing with very uneven ground walking up and down a gravel incline, along with a few stairs to boot, and they could have given us a room on the same level as the parking lot where we'd only have to wheel our suitcases a few feet to the room without any stairs, gravel or inclines. In a few words, they BLEW IT. It wasn't easy for me to deal with the slippery gravel, not to mention the incline and the few stairs, but I dealt with it. I just know it could've been MUCH EASIER if THEY had paid attention. I had never been to their property before, so I would have no way to know how things were laid out or what room would suit me best... but they did. The room itself was clean and SOMEWHAT comfortable. I say only somewhat because the mattress, at least in the room we stayed in, was very weird. The sides of the mattress severely sloped downward, so that when I would sit on it or even lay, I felt like I would roll right off... esp. on the side of the bed where I slept. This was an issue throughout our stay, and it definitely posed a challenge to deal with it. Another issue I had with the room was that the shower was small, but worse than that, it was incredibly slippery. I was terrified I was going to fall because there was nothing to hold onto; nor was their any non-slip mat or strips. People rave about the breakfasts served here. I was expecting some incredible elaborate feast, based on what we read and were told. However, I was completely underwhelmed with the breakfast when we were there. Basically, we were given scrambled eggs and sausage, neither of which was anything special in taste or presentation. There was some kind of strawberry sauce over a biscuit, and while it looked pretty, it had no flavor. I'm not a cereal eater, so I didn't have any. I don't know... it was a big miss to me. I just didn't see or taste why people think this is so wonderful. It completely eluded me. We paid a lot of money to stay here. It should've been a lot better for what we paid, and by the way, we paid less everywhere else and got much better service, much better comfort, and we were treated better by any of the other places we stayed at. There are enough other choices in this town that if we ever return, it won't be to this establishment. Again, it wasn't bad... it just wasn't great either.

The private lawn has chairs to enjoy the view, and games like cornhole. Yes, the breakfast is wow! Homeade and tailored for any dietary need as well, so very thoughtful. They provide snacks and drinks all day. Staff is wonderful, and we couldn't have asked for anything better. This is worth your stay! We will be back!

Service was a tad slow, but we managed. I opted for some lobster bisque, crabcakes, and the Lawnmere flatbread. The soup was pretty good. There were large chunks of lobster in the soup. The garnish was a nice addition. The crab cakes were ok. The lacked a little flavor for me. The corn salsa was pretty good! The Lawnmere seemed like a good idea on the menu, but oddly it lacked flavor. I had high hopes for this flatbread. I feel like we missed a mark here. The crust was great. My key lime pie was delicious. The coconut really added to the dish. My son devoured his pub burger and had no complaints. My husband said his calamari and fish tacos were ok. The heirloom tomato salad was the best. The arugula has a nice taste to it along with the layer of ricotta cheese under it all. The flavors really blended well with this dish. The bathroom was 10/10 for me they had a theme and ran with it and I love it. The lobster themed wallpaper really made it overall we had a nice lunch. Nothing spectacular. Maybe dinner is the meal to have here. We went at 2pm for a late lunch early dinner.

Not impressive at low tide because your looking at mud- but everything about the room and stay were wonderful. People sat out with drinks and reading and the area was quiet. Our bed was hands down the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Hands down. Breakfast was very good and promptly delivered to our balcony tables each morning. Location is great - very walkable to town and a very quiet cove. We did not use the hot tub because it was restrictive. You had to book a timeframe before the office closed at 5pm otherwise it is padlocked. Kind of a damper to a what could be a spontaneous romantic evening. We tried to light the fire pit on our last night but it was out of gas. We did have one recommendation. When travelers arrive they appreciate a bathroom to use during check-in. Well there was none after our 5 hour drive and our rooms were not ready (prior to 3pm). we were told to walk 5-10 minutes down to town and we would find a bathroom there. Unacceptable. Overall we would stay again and recommend to others.

Since there was no mention of this on their website and I had emphasized " first floor bedroom " as being necessary, we ( husband and me with walking canes and daughter and husband) arrived to what looked like an impossible situation. After much discussion with the check-in person and no alternatives suggested, plus a large deposit made for 3 nights, we decided to try it. It was so difficult to get up and down the stairs, it affected our entire trip...carry out meals, one daily trip up and down for husband and me, son-in-law hauling luggage, groceries, etc up stairs, etc. Once inside, the cottage is nice, roomy, private, clean and functional. Upstairs there is a third small room with a queen bed and free washer and dryer and a " hangout out" area with couch, games, etc. The food was delicious. We had breakfast served so had to reheat some items in the microwave. Really enjoyed the morning smoothies. Afternoon cookies are a must; different homemade cookies each day. This place is ideal for able-bodied people but definitely not for those who have mobility or balance issues.

She offered many tips and made sure we were all set. In the morning on the 5th we grabbed some coffee inside the reception area. We toured the gift store and checked out the restaurant menu. We needed a couple extra bath towels and the gentleman behind the reception counter was very helpful and accommodating. Our cottage was the perfect size for the five of us. We even made one bathroom work n with no issues. The bathroom is actually a pretty good size. The bathroom could definitely use some hooks throughout to hang towels and maybe wet bathing suits, etc. Especially since this is geared for a party of 6. We had no problem with hot water. The living room set up is also a decent size with a working fireplace and a table and chairs in the corner. The kitchenette is tiny but packs a lot in there. The beds were extremely comfortable and the linens were clean and soft. The porch was so inviting. We sat outside numerous times and enjoyed it. The WiFi worked great, no issues. We used the pool one evening and that was perfect after a day of walking. Towels are provided and the pool is heated but not super warm. We had no problem swimming in it. I like that the pool will be open slightly later 830/9 depending on dusk time. Only complaint is how fast some cars go out front in the property. My concern is there is many people in that area on and off during the day including children. But, that is no fault to them. Maybe speed bumps to help slow people down? Overall this is a great location with beautiful views.
