In the back of the market is a small hallway to access the restaurant. Love the menu here. Such a variety. We settled on the bowl and it was delicious. It looked very small, but there was more than met the eye and we were satisfied with the meal. We also had one of those little cakes with the Elderberry . Forgot the name and cannot pronounce it anyway, but this was the star of my morning. It is small also, but delicious, so well worth it. It has the slightest little crunch as you bite into it and the inside is soft like a bread pudding almost. And the taste is superb. It goes wonderfully with the coffee. We had just regular coffee, but it was worth mentioning. Very good coffee. Again very small cups, however, free refills... ... that is if you can get someone's attention. Service here is sorely lacking unfortunately. While friendly it is sooooo sloooow. Both the kitchen and the wait staff. There were only 3 other tables other than ours in the restaurant, yet we were in there almost 2 hours. It seems to be well staffed, but for some reason it's not coming together. So make sure you are not in a hurry when you visit. Also on a side note, the parking lot is NOT accessible from Lynhurst despite an open driveway. That is only to exit going north onto Lynhurst. Drinks were interesting and delicious, without trying too hard. Lunch entrees were both very flavorful. Impressed by the meat on both sandwiches. I wish I had ordered a bowl of soup with my lamb flatbread, but it probably would have been too much food. Texas sheet cake is everything you would hope for: fudgy and sweet. I really want to love Borage, I really do! But even though the vibe is my jam and being someone who enjoys eclectic food a la Ft Sq's Milktooth, I just can't seem to even like a few of the essentials: -the parking lot is tiny compared to the quantity of seats. Plus, the restaurant location isn't as walkable as Main St in Speedway so it's challenging to get in the door in the first place. -once inside, you can enjoy the vibe or order, but every time I've been on the bakery side I have been served by staff that seemed annoyed that they had to take my order. They don't want to make small talk, but they also seem to want to make any talk, period. This has happened during three separate visits with three different staff members. -pastries and coffee are okay.... But not for the prices they charged. Not gonna lie, a post-lunch pastry that I purchased didn't keep very well to the next morning either because berries became moldy and pastry crust turns soggy. Highlight was the Gobbler sandwich... it doesn't fix the above, but it is mighty tasty if you end up here for a meal. read more

After reading a review in the Indy Star, we decided to take a trip to Speedway and are so glad we did. We were promptly seated and drink orders taken. For some reason unknown, they did not have decaf coffee but promised they soon would. My cappuccino was a bit slow to come out, but it was delicious as was the pistachio encrusted espresso glazed croissant to go with it! I had the breakfast sandwich with their maple fennel sausage, an egg and pickled onions. What a melange of flavors! Hubs had the flatbread sandwich with lamb and mushroom and a tomato kind of sauce which he thoroughly enjoyed. Service was very good and the decor is charming. We visited the pastry cafe side before leaving and they have a small market of food and gift shop. I would definitely return to try some pastries and several other interesting menu items. What a gorgeous space this is. You can tell the owners put a lot of love into Borage. The owner said it took them 3 years antiquing everything! I came here for Sunday brunch with a few friends and it was great! The service was amazing and our server had great suggestions and was helpful with all of our questions. We all shared the lemon cream cheese frosted cinnamon roll - it was huge which made it a perfect shareable for the table. My only critique here would be to have more icing. It's so dense and thick that the icing to bread ratio was off. As far as my breakfast, I ordered the Loaded Biscuit Bowl and holyyyyyyy - it was delicious. Highly recommend getting this!!! When you are done eating or waiting for your table, they have a cute market and bakery on the other side that is full of local goodies and fresh made pastries. Where to start. The location itself is expertly thought out. You can tell every detail of the decor and menu were designed and executed with love and attention to detail. I had the fried chicken special on my visit and it was absolutely phenomenal. This chicken was so crispy, that it stood the test of leftovers the next day. The beet tartine was also excellent. First time at this place in speedway I love it! They have a market side with the drinks and pastries and also a cafe. Only went to the pastries/coffee/market side and it was great! They have a lot of healthy food options from the market anywhere from snacks and drinks to meat and cheese. The service here is also amazing and they're all very kind and look like they love their job which I love to see! The ambiance was very peaceful and depending on when you go could be a good study spot or also just a nice place to grab a coffee with a friend. I was really looking forward to trying this place based on reviews. I stopped in the market side and ordered a baguette, a toasted bagel with cream cheese, and an iced caramel latte. I ordered and paid then browsed the market area. After a few minutes the barista announced, "iced caramel latte with oat milk," which is exactly what I ordered. So I walked over and grabbed my coffee and waited for my bagel. A woman (customer not employee) walked past me and rudely said "I hope that tastes well" and rolled her eyes. I was a little confused but whatever. Then the barista came over to me and said, "did you order an iced caramel latte with oat milk?" I told him I did then he proceeded to tell me I had taken someone else's coffee. Now I understood the woman's comment because it was her coffee I mistakenly grabbed. I continued to apologize, but she continued to be rude even though it only took them maybe 3 minutes to make her another one, and we had both ordered the exact same coffee so there was no way for me to know this was not mine. This could have all been avoided if they asked for a name with the order like most other places. When I got my bagel it was cold even though I had ordered it toasted. The coffee tasted a little watered down as well. Overall a disappointing experience, paired with staff who seemed like they didn't want to be there. read more

Cutest hidden spot in Speedway! Came here for brunch on a Sunday with a friend and we were not disappointed. Our server was very nice and attentive as we looked over the menu. After much deliberating, we ordered the iced berry matcha lattes and they had the right amount of matcha without being too overpowering. For food we decided on the breakfast sandwich and Asian frittata which were both very good! The ambiance inside is quite nice and open with plenty of sunlight! It's also very nice that they have a connecting cafe and marketplace too! Overall very happy with the food, drinks, and service!! Our first visit was amazing! Borage has been on our list since they opened earlier this year. We dropped in right when they opened (5 pm) on a Friday and sat at the bar. The menu feels very extensive and I'm already planning what I'm going to get on our next visit. There was a special menu for dinner, plus a cafe and all day brunch menu. One thing I noticed was all the coffee options - much better than your average coffee shop. We ordered the Friday special - a haddock sandwich and double cheeseburger with fresh brisket (hope I have the details correct). They were SO filling and absolutely delicious. Note: they don't come with sides and now I know why - you're already going to struggle to finish the huge portion. The marketplace is located on the other side of the entrance and features gifts, take-home items, a really comfortable seating area, and coffee bar. This place is so cute inside! They have a market side and a restaurant! Their pastries are giant and unique. I came here on their opening day and got the breakfast sandwich and my friend got the breakfast plate. Their breakfast potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. A dear friend of mine visited me and Borage was one of the places on our list for breakfast after hearing rave reviews. The cafe area was absolutely adorable. It's very well decorated and my friend and I loved the vintage vibes. As we came on a weekday morning, we were sat very quickly and our server was really patient and knew the menu quite well. As I personally love an espresso tonic, I ordered the Summer Situation which was cool and refreshing for the muggy summer day. My friend got a standard iced coffee. I was torn between the biscuit bowl and the breakfast sandwich. Due to what seemed like inconsistencies with the sandwich from other reviews, I decided to go with the bowl. The gravy is rotating, and the one I had was quite delicious. However, I wished my egg was more runny and there were more fried potatoes. The biscuit was okay. I wished it was more layered, but that might just be my preference as someone who's lived in the south for a while. I haven't quite found my go to breakfast dish yet, but I hope to, my next visit. My friend got the soup of the day, which was a chicken tortilla that he was very happy with. He also is very into corn based baked goods and insisted on ordering the corn cookie and canele (which is NOT corn based). We both found the cookie too sweet for us and the canele to be just ok. It lacked the crisp exterior and the interior was not as custard-y as expected. However, both are lovely baked goods. We also took a peek at the market side and enjoyed seeing the offerings. First is all, the $5.00 coffee was terrible, almost undrinkable. The coke was $4.50, It was Mexican. They didn't have anything else. The $8.00 cinnamon roll was stale. My husband had it and didn't complain until we left the restaurant. If I had known, I would have sent it back nicely. The $13.00 all day breakfast had been out all day!!!!! It had Nothing that was edible except the one piece of toast. It was delicious. The potatoes were black. Not sure how many times they had been cooked. In their defense, it was Tuesday at 12:30pm. I never complained at the restaurant as I was with friends. This place was One and Done for us. The service was ok, but Robynn had too many tables to serve. The total bill was $33.00 plus tip, so $40.00 for a breakfast that we could not eat!!!!! The building was really nice. They did a good job building/renovating. The market was ????, the pastries look dried up and stale. We did not purchase anything and I love pastries. I doubt if this place survives a year. That's too bad as the building was really nice. Sorry for the bad review. There are too many good restaurants to waste my money on this one. read more

I recently had brunch with a friend at a lovely spot that felt like a garden when we pulled into the parking lot. Initially, we were confused about getting into the cafe side as the door was locked, but we eventually found our way in through the marketplace and were greeted by a hostess. The menu was cute and intricate with daily specials. I ordered a frittata with an arugula side from the daily specials, while my friend had the breakfast plate with home fries. My frittata was a bit bland, but my friend's breakfast plate was savory and well-cooked, especially the home fries, which were crispy on the outside and soft inside. We also had special drinks; I tried the "summer situation" drink, which was interesting but had an unappetizing film on top. My friend had the lemon shake-up, which she found very sweet with sugar on the rim. This is a review for the cafe side only - I have not dined at the restaurant. I wanted to love this place - feel like with Amelia's, levanthian, and others, the pastry and cafes opening in Indy have all been awesome. Unfortunately this one fell short. Specifics: Quality: we tried the blackberry pb&j toast, the lemon curd cherry pastry, a plain croissant, the savory mushroom pastry, and a plain baguette. All disappointing. The baguette had to have been at least a day old, it was chewy and stale. The pb&j toast with blackberrys had a strange oily flavor without much other. The croissant tasted like a continental breakfast and wasn't well laminated. The mushroom special pastry had an overpowering taste of pickle and the pastry itself was stale and chewy. Very strange. Presentation was great but taste and texture not. Price: I think all in for everything above it was $50 or $60? Which for 5 pastries seems pretty wild. Service was great and the place itself is cool, and I showed up right when they opened so maybe I just didn't get the freshest stuff, but I think your time and $ are better spent at Amelia's. read more

It was a cute cafe and I need to go back to sit down for dinner. If the main parking lot if full there is one right across the street that myself and others parked in. It seemed like the overflow lot. I spent all of my time on the market side on a Saturday morning. The crown wasn't too bad around 10am but as it got later by about 11:30am the line to order was to the door. We had ordered "quick bites" and coffee and we're going to go back and grab some of their huge cinnamon rolls as we were leaving but they ran out it was so busy. So get the cinnamon roll while they're still available. They're a hit. The breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwich are under the quick bites so they came out right after our coffees and were pretty good. I wouldn't say the burrito was anything to run home about but the sandwich was nice with its homemade croissant as the bread. I got an iced Carmel latte with oat milk and it came in a Mason jar which was a nice touch. I believe their cofffee is from Helm so love that they support local. There was an area for kids to play, plants for sale, little trinkets, fresh fruits, vegetables, pies, ice cream, and more.
